The mystery surrounding British reports on Russia-Trump ties will have major ramifications.

A new intelligence report alleges a special relationship between US president-elect Donald Trump and Russia [Reuters]


As the United States says farewell to Barack Obama's scandal-free term in office, it quivers at the incoming scandal-ridden Trump presidency before it has even started.
The latest controversy may yet prove to be the most damning, if any of the allegations are substantiated.
It goes beyond accusations of groping women, tax evasion and fraternising with white supremacists. It touches on US national security and speaks to the politicisation in highest echelons of the intelligence community.

Does Russia have something on the incoming president? Does he know it? Is that why he's been eerily schmoozing Vladimir Putin with unmatched passion, while dismissing all 17 US intelligence agencies' claims about Russia's hacking and interference in US elections?
For several months, Trump seemed to have something negative to say about every politician, except Putin, whom he called, a nice, smart and competent guy and even better leader than the US president.
So is it all just coincidental or is there more to it than meets the eye?
Here's what we "know"
A former British MI6 intelligence officer, let's call him JB, who was posted in Russia in the 1990s, was hired by certain Republican and Democratic rivals of Donald Trump to dig for dirt about his Russia dealings.
Towards the end of his search, JB provided an unsolicited, but damning, report about Trump to the FBI, which was appended to a report on Russia's interference in the 2016 US elections.
It speaks of Russian attempts to sway Trump with business deals and secret information about his potential political rivals. And it expresses the suspicion that Russia might have embarrassing or even damning "personal and financial" information about Trump.

There are also allegations, again unsubstantiated, that the Russians have dirt on him from the time he
hosted The Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow in Nov 2013. Pornographic stuff.
And finally, it alludes to direct contacts between Trump advisors and certain Russians connected to the Putin regime during the campaign.
A Moscow-based British diplomat has reportedly briefed Senator John McCain about the full extent of the controversy. He, in turn, sent an emissary to London to grab the report. The senator then handed it to FBI director, James Comey, in person on December 9.
Since then, the Republican leadership in Congress has vetoed McCain's call for a special senate select committee to investigate the Russian interference in the US elections.
But the affair has snowballed after all four chiefs of the main intelligence agencies briefed both Obama and Trump about the potentially damning Russian role. Leaks to the media blew it out of proportion after the entire report was posted by Buzzfeed, on its website, so that American can "decide for themselves". Other media outlets refused to give credence to the report without further evidence.
Adding to the mystery
JB, the British secret service agent, whose identity remains unknown, is recognised by US intelligence circles to be a credible source. He is said to have delivered reliable information over the years.
But FBI director ignored the reports on Russia-Trump connection and instead focused on what he termed "potentially explosive" information about the Clinton emails.
To Democrats' consternation, Comey went public with the Clinton controversy a week before the elections, but remained quiet about the Trump-Russia affair.
Nothing came out of the FBI investigation of the Clinton emails, which many argue led to her defeat. This may, or may not, be true. But it's more likely if the British report became public before November 8, that it could've diminished Trump's chances of winning.
Could this have something to do with the fact the Comey was a registered Republican before he was confirmed as FBI director in 2013? Did his politics prejudice his professional judgment? Or is the report no more than "fake news"?
The jury is split.
From Russia with love, only
Only time will tell how much credence, if any, there is to the British reports from Moscow and whether JB is no less fictional than James Bond in the British thriller, "From Russia With Love".
It's possible that Trump has made too many enemies over the past two or more years, some powerless, others more powerful and may want to get back at him.
His derisive and insulting attacks against his own fellow Republicans, such as John McCain or the other presidential candidates, may come back to haunt him now that he needs them most.
Trump's recent ridicule of the "intelligence" community over the Russian hacking is yet to boomerang. Last week, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said that Trump's questioning the legitimacy or the intelligence community is "dumb", and suggested they will "get back at him" for it.
Have they, indeed? Have they, or their mates across the Atlantic, manufactured these reports to get back at him, or merely highlighted them before it's too late, to get back at him?
Well, some of the damage to Trump is already done. There's so much suspicion out there about the incoming president that he will not able to pal around with Putin without raising even deep suspicion.

It was joy at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) in Cross River State as a woman was delivered of quintuplets on Monday.
The parents of the babies – Dr Ekpo Edet and Mrs Esther Edet – who work at UCTH, described having five children at once after 10 years as a wonderful blessing from God.
They are three girls and two boys, whose birth is seen by the father as ”a miracle.”
He recalled that he had been married for 10 years without a child, before the five children came..
Dr. Eket said the children only come from God and he was thankful to Him for the precious gifts.
He added: “I want to thank God Almighty. He’s a faithful God. The first time in the history of Cross River State, the first time in the history of UCTH; five at a go! God has been just been faithful as we have concluded the first phase and the doctors have confirmed that the babies are kicking. We are entering into the second phase and I know it’s not going to be easy but I solicit for support from all well-meaning Nigerians, all my friends and well-wishers.
“I want to thank God almighty for this precious gift of five children. He is a faithful God; the children are kicking and in good condition.
“God has been faithful to my family; five children at a go is indeed a wonderful blessing to me and my wife.
Prof. Thomas Agan, the Chief Medical Director of UCTH, told NAN that it was a moment of joy for the couple because they had hoped on the Lord for the fruit of the womb.
“I am very excited to see one of my staff in a happy mood. The Lord has done it for them. Five children at a go is a very big blessing to the couple.
“This is the first time in the history of the state that a woman is delivering five children at a go and all the babies are perfectly in good condition.
“I am happy that the UCTH has also set a record of delivering five children safely from one mother.
“The quintuplets are weighing between 1.45kg and 1.75kg. There are currently in the Special Care Babies Unit of the hospital,’’ he said.
Wife of Governor Ben Ayade, Linda, , visited the couple, saying that the quintuplets were a blessing to the state and Nigeria
Mrs Ayade donated N1million to the couple and another N500,000 to the medical experts who took delivery of the babies. She also donated an incubator machine to the hospital on behalf of the state government to enhance their activities and service delivery.
Commissioner for Health Dr. Inyang Asibong , congratulated the couple for the gift of the quintuplets, saying that those who hope in God will never be left empty.
Asibong commended the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team of the UCTH for their professionalism in ensuring the successful delivery of the babies.

A Baptist church in the US has announced that a gay couple will lead the congregation as co-pastors.
Calvary Baptist Church in Washington D.C. said Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen will begin their new jobs on February 26.
It is thought this could be the first time a lesbian couple have been chosen to lead a Baptist church.
Spokeswoman Carol Blythe was quoted by the Religion News Service as saying: “ We look for the best people in the world and that’s who they were, we’re very excited .”
The pair have both been serving in ministry separately until now.

A Norwegian professor, better known as the founding father of peace studies as a scientific subject, Johan Galtung, has revealed shocking predictions about the United States of America, USA.
Galtung, who predicted September 11 (911) attack and fall of Berlin Wall Soviet Union warned that US global power is in a phase of accelerated decline under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
He attracted controversy in 2000 when he predicted US global power would collapse by 2025.
According to Independent, Galtung says America will collapse while the property mogul is the White House.
Under the Bush administration, he revised his forecast for the collapse to 2020. Now, he says that reality is materializing following election of the billionaire.

A septuagenarian, Idris Ajao, on Monday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of a human skull.
Mr. Ajao, 72, was arraigned along with 48-year-old Tajudeen Akonife on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of human skull.
They, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mireti Wilson, told the court that the accused were arrested with a human skull on December 29 at Iwo in Osun State.
Mr. Wilson said that the duo conspired to get the human skull to be used for charm.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 329 (A) of the Criminal Code of Osun, 2003.
The Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties each.
Mr. Aluko said that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and have evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till February 28 for mention.

I have noticed that when my heart is upset (anger, confusion, frustration, depression, etc.) and I speak unguardedly, I don’t say what I mean. Now here when I say “heart,” I don’t mean the heart of man as the Fathers speak of the heart; rather, I mean what most English speakers mean when they say heart: their feelings, their inner emotional selves. Particularly in the relationships I care most about, I must be very careful.
Honesty in relationships is a tricky thing. Yes we must be honest with one another, but if we are not very careful, our words can contain barbs that wound the ones we love. And in the end, what we say really isn’t what we mean.
Unless one grows up in an exceptionally healthy environment, we learn quickly that the least painful way to be “myself” is to become a persona, a created mask of ourselves—who we wish we were and who we want others to know us as. In fact it is common for us to wear several masks. I remember in high school noticing how many different “me’s” there were: the home me, the church me, the school me, the athletic me, the boy friend me and in my few quiet moments (thank God!) the me that noticed the many shattered me’s. I have read in psychology books that this is normal. It may be common, but I do not think it is normal.
When I counsel couples who want to get married, I always tell them that marriage is a lot of work, and they always smile and say, “Yes, we know.” It’s almost a ritual, but you have to at least warn them even if they have no categories to understand what you mean. There’s hard work and then there’s hard work. The hard work of marriage is the work of taking off your mask, of becoming naked before one another. The real labor of this stripping away of your false selves is to do it lovingly. That is, much of what I think and feel should not be said with the force and vocabulary with which I think or feel it. I must speak in ways that build up and encourage, not tear down.
This is the hard work. Mostly we learn through mistakes. We speak and then realize what was heard was not what we intended to say. Sometimes, if we are really lucky, we have a role model, someone whose marriage or family we admire. We can learn too from them, but mostly it is trial and error. I don’t think there is any way around it. You try, you hurt and are hurt, and you forgive and try again.
This process of learning to love those whom we love can get stalled quite easily. It is easier just to put up a mask than to risk the hurt of trying to communicate lovingly. The meaning of unclothedness is lost, the unclothedness in the Garden of Eden. Even if you have no clothes on, you are not naked if you are wearing a mask. Marriages may last for years, two masks relating to one another, tolerating on another, enduring one another. We are wounded people who end up wounding those we love most. Lord have mercy!
And yet salvation is possible, even in marriage, even in this day and age. The me at the center must put on Christ in order to be myself. But putting on Christ is not an ecstatic religious experience. It is the hard work of putting on kindness when I don’t feel kind. It is speaking gently when I don’t feel gentle. It is suffering a little longer when I am tired of suffering (i.e. patience). “Wait!” I hear screamed from the other side of my computer screen, “I thought I was supposed to be myself and to take off masks. Now you’re telling me to put on Christ.” Ironic, isn’t it? By putting on faithfulness, joy, meekness, etc. I become more myself, and my masks melt away. By carefully clothing my words and actions in goodness, kindness, patience, self control and meekness (humility), I find that I am able to be myself in ways that do not hurt those around me. By clothing myself in Christ, I become naked—naked like Adam and Eve in the Garden before the fall.

If Adeboye goes, Sultan must go – Reno Omokri blasts FRCN over ‘forceful’ retirement

Former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the General Overseer, GO of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s retirement.
Recall that Adeboye, on Saturday announced he was stepping down as the overseer of the church in Nigeria, but will continue to head the ministry worldwide.
Omokri said the policy by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN forcing the pastors to resign was not in the best interest of the country.
On his Facebook page, the outspoken personality joined the league of persons who have shown mixed reactions following the cleric’s retirement.
He added to the reaction, posing some questions and wondering if the Sultan of Sokoto, being the president of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, III, would also be forced to resign.
He wrote: “Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria should not extend its tentacles to churches.
“Why should Pastor Adeboye have to retire because of the FRCN?
“This foolish law has already destroyed our banks by pushing out experienced CEOs and bringing in inexperienced leaders. Where does it end?”
“If Adeboye has to go as GO of RCCG, does it mean the Sultan of Sokoto also has to go as president of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs? Where does it end? He would also go then.
“When a handshake has passed the elbow it is no longer a handshake.
“This is not a law that was enacted by the National Assembly.
“It is a policy that was put forward by the FRCN. Please know the difference and don’t blame innocent persons,” Omokri stated, arguing that the same policy had destroyed the banking industry as it had forced many experienced chief executive officers to resign.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, on Saturday appointed a new General Overseer (GO) for the church as he retired ahead of his 75th birthday on 2 March.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new GO is Joshua Obayemi.
Mr. Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State.
He had his B.Sc. in Mathematics at University of Nigeria Nsukka, and subsequently got his PhD in applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos, and worked as a lecturer in Mathematics at the universities of Lagos and Ilorin, before going into full time priesthood in 1984.
After joining the RCCG in 1973, he began working to translate the sermons of its then Pastor and founder, Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, from Yoruba into English.
In 1981, Mr. Adeboye was appointed General Overseer of the church.
He took over from Rev. Akindayomi, who died the previous year.
For three years he performed the role part-time, still lecturing at Ilorin.
He finally gave up his university position to preach full-time.
The church, which was not well known prior to Mr. Adeboye’s ascendance, has grown phenomenally, to become Nigeria’s biggest, with branches in about 190 countries, including more than 14,000 in Nigeria.
Mr. Adeboye has said that his aim is to put a church within five minutes of every person on earth.
He married Adenike, 68, in 1967.
NAN reports that Mr. Obayemi was appointed the new GO at the Annual Ministers Thanksgiving at Shimawa, in Ogun State.
The newly appointed GO was the Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance.
Mr. Adeboye also appointed Johnson Odesola, who was the Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel, as the church Secretary. (NAN)

Mega party: ADP zones chairmanship position to North Central, submits registration documents next week

All is now set for the birth of Nigeria’s mega party, Action Democratic Party, ADP.
This is just as those behind the formation of the new party, with the aim of unseating the current administration in 2019 have zoned National Executive Committee slots to the various regions of the country.
According to the Vanguard, they have also concluded plans to submit their documents for registration as a political party to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, next week.
The coming political party is said to have been championed by aggrieved leaders of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to a document released by the political association, the National chairmanship position has been zoned to the North Central; South West, Deputy National Chairman; South East, National Secretary and National Legal Adviser; North-West, National Organising; and South South, National Treasurer.
Similarly, the ADP has made provisions for two zones to produce the deputy national chairmen as it was during the early days of the PDP, just as it created a new office, National Diaspora Adviser, which has never existed in PDP and APC.
According to the breakdown, North Central will produce: National Welfare Secretary, National Vice Chairman, Vice National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Woman Leader, Assistant National Secretary, Deputy National Treasurer; National Vice woman leader, National Vice Youth Leader and Ex-Official (2 males, 1 female).
The North-West, aside the position of National Organising Secretary, will produce: National Woman leader, National Vice Chairman, Vice Publicity Secretary, Deputy National Secretary, Deputy National Youth Leader, Deputy National Welfare Secretary, National Vice Woman Leader and Ex-Officio (2 males,1 female).
To the North-East, the positions are Deputy National Chairman, National Vice Chairman, National Auditor, Deputy National Financial Secretary, National Vice Woman Leader, National Vice Youth leader and Ex-Officio (2 males, 1 female).
South South has the positions of Vice National Welfare Secretary, National Vice Chairman, National Youth leader, Deputy Woman Leader, National Leader- PLWD, Deputy National Legal Adviser, National Vice Youth Leader and Ex-Officio (2 males,1 female).
South-West will produce Deputy National Chairman, National Publicity Secretary, National Vice Chairman, National Financial Secretary, Vice National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Youth Leader, Deputy National Auditor, National Vice Woman Leader, National Vice Youth leader and Ex-Officio (2 males,1 female).
To the South East, the slots are Vice Publicity Secretary, National Vice Chairman, National Diaspora Adviser, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Leader- PLWD, National Vice Woman Leader, National Vice Youth Leader and Ex-Officio (2 males, 1 female).
Reacting to the development, convener of ADP, Alhaji Yabagi Sani, told the newspaper that the association would submit all the required documents to the electoral commission, next week.
His words, “We have just entered a new year, a lot of activities are going on, people are excited about what is taking place; the time has come because of excitement. Papers are being prepared to be sent to INEC, we are putting everything together for INEC and in a week or two, everything would be concluded and sent to the Commission. What we are seeing now is beyond our imagination.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mallam Mohammed Lawal, has affirmed that a national leader of the APC,
