FamilyRe: It Doesn't Feel Like Christmas. by Newborn27(f): 4:55pm On Dec 23, 2024
snowland:
This will be my first Christmas in Nigeria in 15 years but sincerely it does not feel like Christmas at all.
Besides the cold harmattan weather in the morning that normally characterizes this time of the year, nothing else smells festivities.
I remember with nostalgia what Christmas used to feel like. Seems a whole lot has changed.

Apart from the economic situations, what else could have caused this?
Honestly speaking... Nigerians are going through a whole lot....half bag of rice is now 45k, groundnut oil 20k for 5litrs, chicken 20k, pepper and onions very costly.

How can everyone not be on a low-key with this exorbitant prices?

My Boss of over 6yrs that always give the teaching staff 5congos of rice each in December just wave us goodbye with nothing last week.

The economy has turned every hardworking Nigeria to a lazy person.

Iunderstand why you say its still happening but if you knew how BIG it uaec to be, you will know all these ones happening only form 2% of what happened back then.

in fact you just reminded me, in all that excitement, if neighbours saw nothing was happening in a neighbours house, as in no cooking, soneone MUST send a chicken, half bag of rice, that fanous Turkey igroundnut oil, packet of Maggi etc and soon that neighbour would join others cooking and the goodness and love will flow. And no one disrespected them infact that was the fastest way to have your Christmas and new year ruined and turned to pain because you mocked at the poor. ooo the whole community punishes that person by telling everyone what he did and when they are passing food, it will go with the warning that "that fool must not eat of it". No more birthday parties, no more Christmas clothees, that is the guy will wear his old clothes for iChristmas time meant change of wardrobe, so everyone will know that he has committed a huge crime.

Those were the good communual training of the good old days. Today children are horribly and terribly behaved but the evil spirits have stopped us all from correcting them.

Many.

This was the most party season. Weddings, end of years, birthdays in December were always hot and sweet and the party always ran all night.

Then this was the period 2 major parties must clash so you just had to learn to be in 2 places at the same time. And remember fuel was cheap, so you can dart from V.I to Marina and Surulere choosing which party is hottest and which you will end at.

Then i have never bought calenders or diaries in the first 30years of my life. For what na? At least 10 beautiful new year calenders must pass through my house and since i only need 2, that is how we would be selecting calenders and passing them on to others with the question "i have next year's calender do you want?"

Then o my favorite part exchanging food with neighbors, friends and family trying to outdo others. And this is were you see Nigeria was sweet for even the poor could kill at leas 2 Big chickens. While the standard was 4 chickens.

Since 2015 i don't think I have seen big chickens. All this ones they sell was considered srill.growing in those days.

Then, since we were trying to blow each others mind, in my house, we may kill 2 to 6 Turkeys (Usually 2 but an Aunt or Unk or friend may send another 2 Turkey or Chicken). So you see, you will eat meat till you experience what the Israelites experienced with God when they spoke anyhow andthe annoyed Him when the were asking of meat as they were tired of manna.. So you'll hate meat.

So we try to change the food plate by killing Turkeys and goat..And since we knew, the popular food travelling would be jollof rice, so we would head for fried rice and (many people did not know how to do frird rice back then, so you see, that was a big win) Then, Salad, then whatever meat or Fish pepper soup.

And then all theae foods were cooked outside in and with that big party pot, (So was everyone else too) So we are all seeing what everyone is cooking and sweet yabbis and jokes would be flying all over with us children to flying from pot to pot already eating the neats being boiled and fried there. Infact if you.cry, you get one piece of meat. Hmmmm very very sweet days.

All these gone now, neighbors don't relate with each other and many are enemies.
It still happening...only that you grew up, your levels changed and your environment changed.

Moreso, the presence of social media has also impacted some yuletide customs.

Nevertheless, Christmas is a season that people hardly celebrate alone.. irrespective of their status, age and influence.

FamilyRe: Things That Has Changed About Xmas These Days by Newborn27(f): 1:05am On Dec 19, 2024
Increase in age and maturation makes a change about Christmas.

As we grow older, our views and desires changes

As a child we watched out for new wears(clothes, shoes, accessories)all shinning lights

As a teenager, we desire toys and more mature gifts than that of a kid

As an undergraduate...we look forward to going home to family and friends, eating beautiful Christmas food, hanging out with friends and clubbing.etc

As a full grown adult...our view, likes, desire, aspiration and passion gets widened.... eg.. celebrating Xmas with family 4singles, getting a car, traveling abroad, moving into a new house, going on a tour or vacation..etc...

As an elderly...50upwards...many of them just desire peace of mind.. seeing their kids doing exploit... grandkids visiting and being healthy.

In summary, nothing changes about Christmas, our growth rate physically and mentally tells the difference.

As the situation of things is going on in Nigeria, we just need to keep motivating one another with assurance of a better tomorrow.

Every adult presently living in this economy as a salary earner is a hero.... and praise worthy.

Let's remain focus, never give up... there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay safe.

I walked into a hotel and after going through the menu, I ordered some food. After about 20mins a group of guys and ladies walked in & ordered theirs. To my dismay, these folks got served first. I watched as they began to eat & laugh heartily. I even overhead one of them bragging about how he's connected to everyone in the hotel and I felt mocked.

I decided to leave. Unable to take it anymore, I called the waiter. He calmly told me : " yours is a special order, being prepared by the chief chef himself. Theirs orders were prepared hurriedly by students on attachment because the top chefs are busy with yours. That's why they were served first. Please have some juice as you wait". I calmed down & waited patiently.

Shortly after, my meal was served by 6 waiters. Unknown to me, the owner of the hotel (who happened to be an old long lost friend of mine) saw me when I entered and decided to surprise me. She changed my simple meal to a five-star meal. The party at the other table were shocked. They couldn't stop staring . Suddenly they were the ones murmuring, asking why they didn't get that kind of service and meal.

Such is life !
Some people are ahead of you and are eating now, laughing at you and talking about how they are smarter, wiser and better than you, how they are well connected , blessed, have money and are enjoying life.

You are waiting tirelessly wondering why its taking so long to breakthrough, You endure mockery and humiliation. May be you've contemplated suicide, gone through depression or suffered severe mental anxiety.

Don't you worry !
The owner of the world has seen you & doesn't want you to be served a simple meal like those making a mockery of you.

You're waiting long because yours is SPECIAL

It takes time to prepare. And only chief chefs prepare them. God is preparing something real good for you

Wait for your meal and relax. When it comes that laughing party will be silenced for good.

Stay blessed enjoy your day

See you @ the top

Teaching is a profession.

Just because you studied maths or French doesn’t mean that you have knowledge of teaching methodology, classroom management, child development psychology, visualization techniques, student assessment rules, diagnosis tools etc.
Smile.

I studied pure education in both NCE and degree with my Msc soonest IJN

The certification makes teaching a profession...but everyone can be a TEACHER.

Your certificate makes you a qualified practicing Teacher.

Check the schools around you today and ask the majority of the teachers about their field of study and you'd be amazed how many were not trained Teachers and still delivering their duties effectively.

I wouldn't blame such teachers cos the economy and government made them settle for less as they usually claimed.

The Nigeria of today is filled with private schools owned by people who knows nothing about education or curriculum..all for the personal gain they employ any employable.... reason why we have Moral decadence as the order of the day in the nation.

Even the trained Teachers seldom bribe their way through graduation hence being unable to deliver well.

Let me drop the mic 4 now.

Smile

It’s like saying that if I give someone pain killers, I am a nurse. You are either a professional teacher or not.
That is what makes teaching profession unique to others...and why it is underrated globally and underpaid...cos ....just anybody can teach once you have something upstairs to pass down to others.

It's the certification that makes one professional...

That's why we see many graduates of different field of study find their way to teaching without being a trained Teacher.

Take NYSC for instance....80% of corp members teach...when they weren't a trained Teacher...but for a whole year...they were able to fit in.

Teaching is not a profession but a calling.

Trained or untrained teachers? Asking for a friend.
I'm professionally trained...but teaching isn't limited to the four walls of a classroom...as far as you're impacting knowledge, skills and morals into others .. you're teaching.

It isn't just a profession but a ministry.

FamilyRe: Your Wife In Labour Or Your Friend In Emergency by Newborn27(f): 7:37am On Sep 12, 2024

My friend obviously....he's in a life threatening situation.
Giving birth is a natural process that shouldn't be life threatening with all things equal. Even if things go south in the labour room, my contribution will be almost zero.
Your comment shows that you're single and haven't been opportune to witness pregnancy period with a wife and cheerfully expecting the day she'd deliver.

Your friend can be helped through the phone calling the necessary people to care for him....but your wife needs only you on delivery day.

Your presence at the hospital has a lot of impact on her.

Even if you are both in different city or country at the time of delivery... she'd be happy to have you around...maybe virtually.

She's delivering your baby and blood.

Tribute to my dad.

It's so sad looking back at this post of mine about you on here.

You were a fighter dad, you fought very hard to survive this after 2solid years of selling almost all your properties to get better.

Only to be called on 18th of August that you're no more.

I still find it hard to believe on daily basis that you're gone.

Oh! Death! Where is thy sting?
Why take away my lovely dad at 58?
I've gotten many plans on how to take very good care of him and my mom when I'm older and find my place in life.

Why my dad after all the suffering to survive for 2years?
I can never let go of the memories we shared though it's painful to forget...but I'd live to cherish your existence baami.

HealthSoliloquizing ....... by Newborn27(op):
Good day fellow nairalanders,
Compliment of the season to us all.

I'm typing to ask about the topic: " soliloquizing"

I've been severally told in the past that I sometimes talk in my sleep...which I thought my accusers were fabricating stories to frame me.

I happened to lost my dad 3weeeks ago during my sandwich program, so I traveled home from school for the burial arrangements and others.

Since I resumed back last week... it's been from one story to the other by my roommates about how I talk, spoke English and explain as a teacher in class while being asleep.

On daily basis, I'm being awoken by different gimmicks on soliloquizing.... it's becoming so embarrassing that the next room ladies has joined laughing out loud at me.

I was awoken around 1:20am with laughter from the ladies tonight again and this made me lost my composure to sleep back even when I'm having exams by 11am.

My question is, is there anyone that has experienced this in the past? How do you overcome yours?
What can I do to quit talking while asleep?
Many of the sentences they Said I spoke about had been innocently faultless...but I'm scared of the time I might say something absurd and be tagged names.
I'm feeling bad and ashamed already.

As ridiculous as it seems... Nigerians would start praising the previous administration that they abused all through the 4-8yrs.
