NDLEA Chief Charges New Recruits Officer To Stand Firm Against Drug Cartels

The Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is recuperating well in a hospital abroad and would return to the country “very soon”.

"It Is Not True That All Nigerian Borders Have Been Open,Only Six Borders Are Opened"– Nigerian Customs CG ,Says During A Visit To President Tinubu

The acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Wale Adeniyi, has said only six land borders in the country have been reopened.

According to the Customs boss, only the strategic borders were reopened in 2022, and there are no plans to open the other closed borders.

Adeniyi made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Customs boss added that a review is currently underway to assess the objectives of the closure, saying that when the borders are reopened, it’s not going to be subject of rumour.

He said: “Well, it is not true that all Nigerian borders have been opened. The status quo ante still exists in the borders.

If you remember that the borders were completely shut down in 2018 up until 2022 when some selected strategic borders were reopened, that is still the situation as we speak.

“And this was why we had an ad hoc arrangement of a special unit coordinated by the office of the NSA (national security adviser) to enforce that border closure. But as we speak, about five of them have been reopened.

“Four were initially reopened and two more were opened after that. And that is still the situation. There are ongoing processes to review this situation against the objective of the border closure itself.

“And the processes are not yet completed. And of course, when the borders are reopened, it’s not going to be subject of rumour in any way.”

Speaking further, Adeniyi said there are plans to visit the Republic of Benin to engage with the country’s customs administration as part of efforts to enhance border security and regional integration.

“The aim of the visit is to foster collaboration, address border security concerns, facilitate importation across the border, and explore technological solutions to complex border challenges,” he added.

He Is A Liability And The 'Black Sheep' - Omisore Thumps APC Bad habit Director

The National Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has described the outspoken National Vice Chairman of the party in the North-West, Mallam Salihu Lukman, as a loose canon and the ‘black sheep.’

Recall that Lukman has constantly criticised the APC National Chairman, Adamu Abdullahi, and Omisore over their handling of the party.

He had accused them of financial recklessness and running the ruling APC as a military garrison.

Lukman had also dragged both Adamu and Omisore to court for failing to account for the spending of the party’s money, refusing to summon a meeting of the National Executive Committee and breach of the party’s constitution.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Omisore described the National Vice Chairman for North-West as a gaslighter who liked crying wolf where there was none.

He denied speculations that some disgruntled members were seeking the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

He said: “What else do you want us to do to him? Beat or kill him? When you listen to people like Lukman, you won’t know what is happening. This your Lukman that doesn’t attend meetings. He is acting like a loose cannon.

“The NWC members are 25 and only one person, Lukman, has written so many letters, which bothered on ignorance on his part.

About two months ago, he came to apologise and held a press conference to say he wasn’t well informed about what he did. All he said were things done within the party. He never attends party meetings.”

Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat Close Protection In Political race Request Documented By Rhodes-Vivour.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, on Monday, began and ended their defence in the election petition lodged against them by the Labour Party (LP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

The LP and Rhodes-Vivour are contesting the victory of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat in the March 18 governorship election.

They are also disputing Hamzat’s eligibility to run, alleging he renounced his Nigerian citizenship and pledged allegiance to the U.S.

The APC Chairman for Lagos State and a defence witness, Fuad Ade-Oki presented documents to the tribunal, including INEC Form EC9 containing Hamzat’s personal details and the oath he signed on his nomination form.

Led by APC’s lead counsel, Mr Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN), Ade-Oki explained to the tribunal his involvement when Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat filled out the INEC Form EC9 and the oaths on their nomination forms, all taking place at the Ikeja High Court Registry.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the testimony of the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, was a validation of its claim that the $460,000 forfeited by President Bola Tinubu was connected to drug racketeering.

Recall that Senator Bamidele had last Wednesday said, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Witness-in-Chief, that President Tinubu did not face any criminal charges in a US court.

The Senate Majority Leader insisted that a forfeiture order against the president by an American court for $460,000 did not replace criminal charges because it related to a civil problem.

The APC lawmakers also claimed that Tinubu was not found guilty and was not given any punishment.

But in a statement over the weekend, the PDP said Bamidele’s testimony further confirms before the Presidential Election Petition Court that Tinubu forfeited the sum of $460,000, which he earned from the trafficking of drugs, and narcotics in the U.S.

The party added that Bamidele could not defend the figures declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as results of the 2023 presidential election in Kano State because he was not in the state and was also not at the collation centre on the day of the election.

The statement reads: “The testimony of Opeyemi Bamidele, one of the star witnesses of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further confirms before the Presidential Election Petition Court that Bola Tinubu of the APC forfeited the sum of $460,000, which he earned from trafficking of drugs, narcotics in the United States of America (USA), and did not disclose same to INEC in his nomination forms.

“Though, Bamidele in his defence before the Lord Justices opined that the $460,000 forfeiture was civil and not a criminal act.

“He cannot defend the spurious figures declared by INEC as results of the 2023 presidential election in Kano State because he was not in the state and was not also at the collation centre on the day of the election.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC only made 19.5 per cent in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and didn’t score up to 25 per cent as stipulated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended).

Nigeria Police Chipping Away At Application To Screen Car Parks, Lodgings, Others

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has disclosed that the Force has in the works a surveillance application that would capture motor parks, hotels among other public places in the country.

Egbetokun explained that the proposed system would complement the Digitalised Central Motor Registry, which is already in operation, adding that the innovation will be rolled out before the year runs out.

According to a statement by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, the Police boss made these known after a tour of the state-of-the-art National Command and Control Centre facility and the Nigeria Police Crime and Incidence Database Centre at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The statement read, “In addition to the Digitalised Central Motor Registry which is already operational, the NPF is working on innovating other areas paramount to security.

"Some of these which would be unveiled within the year include the Police Mobile Security Surveillance which will among other things capture all motor parks, commercial drivers operating daily in Nigeria, and passengers plying various routes, including hotel lodging data; and the Domestic Help Registration to create and manage centrally accessible data of all domestic help with verifiable previous employment data.”

Adejobi added that the IGP urged police personnel and Nigerians to embrace the ”Rescue Me mobile application” and other technology deployed by the Force.

He noted that the deployment of technological tools by the Force would not only enhance operations in the country but also strengthen the bond between police and citizens.

“The purpose of the tour was to emphasise the IGP’s commitment to integrating smart policing strategies into the Nigerian Police Force. US Returns Another $20.6m Abacha Loot To Nigeria

In a landmark judgement, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has ordered the disclosure of the spending details of about $5 billion late General Sani Abacha loot by the governments of former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

Rovingposts understands that the judgment was delivered last week by Justice James Kolawole Omotosho following a Freedom of Information suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/407/2020, brought by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

In his judgment, Justice Omotosho ordered the government of President Bola Tinubu to “disclose the exact amount of money stolen by General Sani Abacha from Nigeria, and the total amount of Abacha loot recovered and all agreements signed on same by the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.”

The judge held that, “In the final analysis, the application by SERAP is meritorious and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance is hereby ordered to furnish SERAP with the full spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot within 7 days of this judgment.”

He ordered the government to “disclose details of the projects executed with the Abacha loot, locations of any such projects and the names of companies and contractors that carried or carrying out the projects since the return of democracy in 1999 till date.”

Justice Omotosho also ordered the government to “disclose details of specific roles played by the World Bank and other partners in the execution of any projects funded with Abacha loot under the governments of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari.”

According to the judge, “The excuse by the Minister of Finance is that the Ministry has searched its records and the details of the exact public funds stolen by Abacha and how the funds have been spent are not held by the Ministry. The excuse has no leg to stand in view of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act.”

Justice Omotosho dismissed all the objections raised by the Federal Government and upheld SERAP’s arguments. Consequently, the court entered judgment in favour of SERAP against the Federal Government.

Justice Omotosho’s judgment, dated 3 July, 2023, read in part: “The failure of the Minister of Finance to write to SERAP informing it of where the said information exists or to transfer the request to public office who has custody of such information is fatal to their case under section 5 of the Freedom of Information Act.

“The Ministry cannot use a blanket statement that it was not in possession of the said records of about $5bn Abacha loot sought by SERAP. The government failed to provide details of the projects executed with the money. It also failed to provide locations of the projects and the names of the companies and contractors that carried out or are carrying out the projects funded with the money.

“I hold that by the clear wordings of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, access to information about spending details of $5bn Abacha loot was denied SERAP by the Federal Government.

“The Federal Government had filed a 14 paragraph Counter Affidavit deposed to by Abah Sunday, Litigation Officer in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation argued that SERAP’s suit is frivolous, as it has not shown that the government denied it the information it seeks.

“The Federal Government has also stated that SERAP has not established sufficient interest in its application. The government urged the Court to dismiss the suit.

“For the sake of emphasis, possession of locus standi has been the bane of the citizens’ advocates, in the public interest litigation, to query transparency and accountability in governance in Nigeria.

“In a democratic dispensation, such as in Nigeria, the citizens have been proclaimed the owners of sovereignty and mandates that place leaders in the saddle.

“The requirement is a serious fracture of the citizens’ inalienable right to ventilate their grievances against poor governance vis-à-vis expenditure of public funds generated from their taxes.

“The sacrosanct provision of Section 1(2) of the Freedom of Information Act, which has ostracised this disturbing requirement, has, admirably, remedied the harmful mischief appurtenant to it.

“Clearly, section 1 gives a person the right to access any information from any public institution in Nigeria. SERAP is an organization registered in Nigeria and thus a juristic person. As a juristic person, SERAP need not show any specific interest in the spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot to be entitled to the same.

“I therefore hold that SERAP is entitled to the information on the spending details of about $5bn Abacha loot, and need not show any special interest in the information sought.

“The provision of Section 4 of the Freedom of Information Act is quite clear and mandates that public institution or public officer such as the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice must make available the information requested within 7 days of the request.”

In the letter dated 8 July 2023 sent to President Tinubu on the judgment, and signed by SERAP deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization said, “We urge you to demonstrate your expressed commitment to the rule of law by immediately obeying and respecting the judgment of the Court.”

SERAP’s letter, read in part: “We urge you to direct the Ministry of Finance and the office of the Attorney General of the Federation to immediately compile and release the spending details of recovered Abacha loot as ordered by the court.

Police Command Arrests 3 Men For Allegedly Killing Of Navy Officer In Ondo (Photos)

No fewer than three persons have been arrested for allegedly killing a naval officer, identified simply as Akingbohunmi, in Idoani in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to him, the “catastrophic” situation is primarily the result of more than a decade of insecurity linked to non-State armed groups, which prevents people from farming and earning income from the land.

He added that another harmful factor is climate change and extreme weather impacts.

Last year saw the worst floods in 10 years in Nigeria, which affected more than 4.4 million people across the country.

Soaring prices of food, fuel, and fertilisers have exacerbated the crisis, and the response remains severely underfunded.

How Soldiers Watched As Gen. Shuwa Was Killed Revealed (VIDEO)


A relation of General Muhammed Shuwa, who was killed 2 November by gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram has revealed how the General died.

A relation of General Muhammed Shuwa, who was killed 2 November by gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram has revealed how the General died.

The story he related is different materially from the one given by Lt. Colonel Sagir Musa, spokesman of the Joint Task Force, in a statement issued on the day that the General was killed.

This is what Sagir Musa said: “At about 12 noon today at General Muhammadu Shuwa (Rtd) house in Gwange 1 area of Maiduguri metropolis, while the General was seated in his house with some guests, four men initially thought to be his visitors and guests for the Jumaat prayers entered his house and opened fire on the General and his guests.


One of the guests died on the spot while the general died on the way to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The JTF troops located in the area immediately cordoned off the area and search for the assailants is ongoing to apprehend the terrorists. The terrorists that carried out the killing of the late General will be brought to book. We call on the citizens to bring forward information that will assist the security agencies to apprehend the terrorists.”

On the contrary, a relation of the General, Dr. Hassan Bashir said the late General was sitting outside of his house, awaiting a person he had sent to buy a razor blade for him, when the gunmen came calling. And there were between seven to 10 soldiers on guard duty as the shooting happened. The soldiers as Bashir said did nothing to protect the Civil war veteran.

Excerpts of the interview as published by the Daily Trust newspaper:
There is controversy surrounding the killing of General Shuwa on Friday, 2nd November, 2012.

Can you tell us what actually happened on that day?

I spoke to him on Wednesday, 31st October, 2012. I told him that I have had enough here in Nigeria and I would like to go back to the US. He told me that actually he had done his best to make me settle here but it appears to be a very difficult situation and therefore said I should go back. All the time, the General will call and ask of my whereabouts and my welfare. On Friday, he went outside his house and sent for a shaving razor blade. He sent one Adam to buy it for him and he then sat on a chair outside the house, waiting for the razor blade. At that very time, some boys, our relatives were sitting together with him as he was waiting for the arrival of the razor blade. Then there was a gentleman, a passerby that saw the General sitting outside. He therefore approached him in order to offer Fatiha (a tradition in Borno whereby indigents recite some verses of the Quran in front of affluent people and get a little money in return).

As he was reciting the Fatiha, three armed men appeared and took position, two on the western side of the General and one on the eastern side, facing the soldiers that were guarding the General. They were all armed with AK 47 rifles. There was a huge tree close to where the General was sitting and a fountain of water under it. As the two armed men approached him, they began chanting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) and started shooting. One irony is that whenever the General was going out of his house, he went with a gun. He always sat with a gun and goes everywhere with a gun. However, on that very day and hour, he did not go out with the gun. Instead, he locked the door of the room where the gun was and put the key in his pocket and went outside.

As the two men were chanting Allahu Akbar and shooting, the passerby that was reciting Fatima attempted to stand up but the gunmen shot him and he collapsed. Then the General said a word in Shuwa Arab, “Hou” roughly translated as “What?” in English language. Then one of the men looked at the General and shot him and was trying to refill the Ak47 rifle again. That was when the General stood up and put his hand inside his pocket, thinking that he will bring out his gun but instead, brought out the keys to his room. On realizing this, he attempted to grab the man that shot him. When the other gunman saw what the General was trying to do, he shot his two arms.
Whose arms?

The General’s arms and one of the bullets penetrated his ribs and hit the heart directly.

Was the General able to grab one of them?

No, he was not. He was making attempt to catch one of them when the other one shot him in the chest, precisely at the epical line where the heart lies. And when he shot the heart, the General fell and both of them continued shooting him. They pushed him with their legs and confirmed that he was dead.

They then started shouting and jubilating and entered their tricycle.

Before then, the General’s most senior wife was trying to go out of the house when she heard gunshots. As she peeped outside, she saw her husband and the passerby on ground. She wanted to go and embrace him but was prevented [by relatives]. This is when the third gunman who was across the other part of the road started shooting at her but she was very lucky, the bullets did not hit her. She later went and embraced her dead husband. Again, when one of the boys that was sitting outside found out that the General was not with his gun, he rushed into the house in order to get the gun but found out that the door of the parlour was locked and he could not get in. When you go outside this house (General Shuwa’s house) you will find out that there is an umbrella…a tent where the General normally sits and you will see the many holes created by bullets.

Were there no military guards in the house?

There were about eight or ten soldiers guarding this house (the General’s house).
But where were they when the gunmen came?

They were right there at their post in front of the house but none of them could show any resistance or stand and make any effort. There was another girl who is also our relation. She was in the General’s second house which was close by. She told me that when the shooting was going on, she had wanted to go out and grab one of the gunmen, exactly what the General’s wife also wanted to do. They wanted to at least obstruct the gunmen but they were grabbed by other relatives. Unfortunately, the soldiers outside could not do anything.

If any of the soldiers had made any shooting, I think the life of the General could have been saved. And apart from the soldiers that had been stationed in the house, there were other soldiers at the cross section of the street. Again, there are many security checkpoints that the gunmen passed through before they came to this house. There was no resistance or effort to stop the gunmen. The General has always been in Maiduguri, he has always been in this vicinity thinking that he has been protected and his life was safe.
I can see that the soldiers are still guarding this house. Have they given any explanation as to why they were unable to repel the attack?

Not to my knowledge but I would like to know if there is any.
When the federal government delegation came from Abuja, did they ask you how the General was killed?

I explained to them in detail and they were very amused that the soldiers were there but no effort was made to save the life of the General, despite the fact that the purpose of stationing them here was to protect his life. Why there was no shouting, no shooting, nothing? How can something like this happen to a war hero? Someone that spent all his life to protect this country and keep it united? I would like to know why he was killed this way before me too vanishes from this world.
