BREAKING: President Muhammadu Buhari,Yemi Osinbajo, Others To Get N64.72bn Severance Packages

final pay in office for the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, state governors and other political appointees about to leave office may cost the country about N64.72bn, findings by The PUNCH have shown.

The figure also covers the pay for ministers, commissioners, National Assembly members, and special advisers.

It, however, does not include special assistants and state assembly members.

The allocations by the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission for salaries and allowances for one month, as well as severance gratuity (300 per cent of basic salary), were analysed to arrive at the figures.

More specifically, aside from the basic for the last month in office, the figure includes allowances, such as hardship allowance (50 per cent of basic salary), Consistency allowance (250 per cent of basic salary), motor vehicle fueling allowance (75 per cent of basic salary), entertainment allowance (45 per cent of basic salary), among others.

As stipulated by RMAFAC, Buhari is expected to get N1.71m, which includes basic salary and a few allowances and N10.54m as severance gratuity.

Vice-President Osinbajo is expected to get N1.01m plus N9.09m severance pay.

The eight special advisers in the Presidency are expected to get N590,957, which includes basic salary and a few allowances, and N5.83m severance pay each.

In total, N51.37m will be spent on the special advisers under the Presidency.

There are 44 ministers under Buhari, consisting of 27 federal ministers and 17 ministers of state.

While each minister is entitled to N6.73m (which includes basic salary, some allowances and severance pay), each minister of state is entitled to N6.5m.

In total, they would get N292.21m, with ministers getting N181.71m and ministers of states receiving N110.5m.

Each special adviser under the minister is entitled to a final pay of N6.42m. With each minister having one special adviser, the total sum of N282.48m will be spent.

The PUNCH checks indicate that about 327 National Assembly members would not be returning to the office.

This is made up of 76 Senators and 251 members of the House of Representatives.

While the senators will get N7.14m each, the House of Representatives members will get N6.75m each.

In total, the final pay in office of the 327 National Assembly members will cost the country about N2.24bn.

Although governorship elections were held in about 28 states, no fewer than 18 state governors will hand over to their successors on May 29, 2023.

The outgoing governors include Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta State), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom State), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano State), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa State), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara State), Ben Ayade (Cross River State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), and David Umahi (Ebonyi State).

Other outgoing governors include Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Darius Ishaku (Taraba State), Abubakar Bello (Niger State), Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi State), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna State), Simon Lalong (Plateau State), Aminu Masari (Katsina State) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto State).

The outgoing governors will be completing two terms of eight years in office on May 28, 2023, except Zamfara’s Matawalle, who lost his re-election attempt.

Each governor is entitled to a final pay of N7.32m while the deputy governor gets N6.96m. In total, state governors will get N131.76m while their deputies would be paid N125.28m.

With each commissioner entitled to N4.42m, a total of 356 state commissioners will get N1.57bn.

Special advisers at the state level are by law entitled to N4.13m each. The 18 states have about 14,529 special advisers in total, which would cost the public treasury over N60bn.

Rivers State is expected to pay out a huge final pay on account of the high number of political appointees engaged by Governor Nyesom Wike, who last year appointed 14,000 special advisers.

The beneficiaries of the end-of-tenure pay also include the eight commissioners.

The Enugu State House Assembly has a total of 24 seats while the executive arm boasts 25 commissioners with an undisclosed number of special advisers.

Governor Tambuwal of Sokoto State was reported to have appointed over 50 special advisers. The governor recently appointed another 15 special advisers to compensate the members of his party who lost out in the Peoples Democratic Party primaries. The state also boasts of about 21 commissioners supervising different ministries.

The PUNCH earlier reported that no fewer than 18 outgoing state governors will retire into lives of luxury with generous pension benefits despite mounting debts and unpaid workers’ salaries.

The PUNCH investigations showed that the governors, who will hand over to their successors on May 29, 2023, would be leaving behind at least N3.06tn debt for the incoming administrations.

According to data from the Debt Management Office, states’ debts included N2.27tn domestic loans and $1.71bn foreign borrowing.

In a report, a senior economist with SPM Professionals, Mr Paul Alaje, described the pay and benefits as a burden on the states.

BREAKING: Atiku Failed To Pervert Justice

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu and Vice, Kashim Shettima.

Fani-Kayode alleged that the ruling was an indication that the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his party failed to intimidate or compromise the judges.

He claimed that Atiku failed in his course to pervert justice.

Federal Polytechnic Ogun State Student Who Lost School Fees To Betting, Commits Suicide (Photo)

Abeokuta, May 24, 2023 A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FPI), situated in Yewa South local government area of Ogun, Samuel Adegoke, has reportedly committed suicide after losing his school fees and that of his friend to gambling.

It was gathered that Adegoke, a National Diploma II student of Electrical Electronic Engineering, reportedly took chemical substance, suspected to be snipper, on Monday when his colleagues were preparing for the first semester examination.

The deceased reportedly lost his school fees and that of his friend on online betting on Friday.

It was also gathered that the deceased swindled his friend who shared a room with him by getting his password and used his fee to play and also lost.

It was further gathered that the school had warned that no student would be allowed to write examination without completing the registration.

Adegoke was reported to have taken the snipper few minutes to the examination, scheduled for same Monday.

He was reportedly rushed to the school clinic from where he was referred to a specialist hospital outside the school in Ilaro before he was pronounced dead, according to the Public Relations Officer of the school, Sola Abiala.

“It was detected at the specialist hospital that the late student drank snipper.

“His father told the school that his son had used his school fees to gamble last session but, he had to rescue him by making another payment,’ Abiala said.

“We have a policy here that any student that does not pay school fees will not write exam.

“He realised that he and his friend would not write the exam, that was why he committed suicide.

“We sent for his parents and briefed them. His father told us that his late son did the same thing last session and he had to send money to him to pay the fees.

“He said if he had known about the latest one, he would have paid for it.

“But when we asked the father to take possession of the corpse, he rejected it and said he could not take his son’s corpse back home.

ASUU Return Emmanuel Osodeke As National President for Another 2-Year

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have unanimously re-elected Professor Emmanuel Osodeke as their National President to lead the union for an additional two years.

PN reports that the re-election took place during the 22nd National Delegates Conference of ASUU, held at the University of Jos, Plateau State, from May 19 to 21, 2023.

Professor Osodeke, who hails from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, emerged unopposed.

Alongside Osodeke, the union members also re-elected Chris Piwuna, a highly regarded Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Professor from the College of Medicine at the University of Jos, as the Vice President.

The conference witnessed the re-election of several other prominent figures in ASUU’s national leadership.

Among them were Professor Siji Sowande, retaining his position as Treasurer; Professor Ade Adejumo, continuing his role as Financial Secretary; Dr Austen Sado, retaining the position of Investment Secretary; and Dr Adamu Babayo, maintaining his role as Internal Auditor.

NPF Seek Court Order To Remand Seun Kuti In Custody

Police sources explained that the action became necessary in order not to violate the constitutional duration of detention of suspects.

Famous Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, who is the son of music legend, late Fela Kuti, may remain in custody longer than expected.

This is because the Police, on Tuesday morning, sought a court order to remand him in custody, pending when investigation into the assault on a policeman is concluded.

Seun was taken to the Yaba Court 1, this (Tuesday) morning.

Police sources explained that the action became necessary in order not to violate the constitutional duration of detention of suspects.

Besides, Police sources attributed the delay to Seun’s refusal to write a statement on the matter when he was taken to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, SCIID, yesterday morning.

A source said: “Immediately the incident happened, the Police officer reported the matter.

“There was also a video of him (Seun) slapping and pushing the policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge.

“However, that is not enough to conclude the investigation. There is a need for him to state his side, as part of the investigation.

“But he refused to write his statement yesterday (Monday) morning when told to do so.”

Throughout the years, the Bajau Tribe has been living only by fishing whilst diving. It has been revealed that during their fishing session they spend 60% of the time underwater.

According to scientists, these people are naturally born to dive and due to this lifestyle, which has been within their roots for centuries, their bodies have adapted to the environment and underwater.

The Bajau people are able to survive underwater due to their ability to hold their breath for a longer time and that is the only way they are able to catch fish which serves as their main food.

Their catch (fish) is also used as their financial source to trade for other goods that they require. They are traced back to 15,000 years ago, living the same sort of lifestyle as they live today and also giving them plenty of time to genetically developed this ability to live underwater.
How Long Can Bajau Hold Their Breath Under Water?

Research has shown that the Bajau can hold their breath for over 5 to 13 minutes, underwater while trained divers can only hold it for 3 or 4. Bajau divers use this diving ability to spend hours each day hunting underwater for fish.
They Pierce Their Eardrums

Some Bajau people pierce their eardrums in order to accommodate their freediving lifestyle.

This helps them to cope with the extreme water pressure whiles they are underneath. When this is not done, they might end up bleeding from the ears and nose and end up feeling dizzy.

However, this eardrum piercing can result in total ear loss during old age.
They Have Long Spleens

The Bajau people have big and long spleens (the spleen is a fist-sized organ in the upper left side of your abdomen, next to your stomach and behind your left ribs).

Spleens are not essential for life, but they contribute to the immune system and function as blood filters by eliminating damaged red blood cells and recycling iron, most importantly, they stores a quantity of blood.

The spleens contract when they are in the water, thereby spreading the blood’s oxygen-rich reserve throughout the body. When swimmers have a larger spleen means more oxygen is available.
They Have Longer Diaphragms

In order for them to survive living underwater, their diaphragms stretch, and the lung wall and abdominal wall also become more flexible which aids them to be able to hold more air underwater.
They Have A Genetic Mutation

The Bajau also has a mutant gene. They have a large amount of the PDE10A gene and the BDKRB2 gene. This makes them unique from other people.
More Blood Flows To Vital Organs Than Their Legs

The mutant gene makes peripheral vasoconstriction a diving response. The Bajau’s distinct genetic makeup may help them effectively tighten non-critical regions of their circulatory system.

BREAKING: GOOD NEWS, President Buhari Finally Inaugurates Dangote Refinery

The 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) Dangote Oil Refinery, which President Muhammadu Buhari would inaugurate tomorrow, is expected to meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s demand for all refined products.

Products expected to be produced in tonnes daily include premium motor spirit (PMS), diesel (AGO), aviation jet fuel and dual purpose kerosene (DPK), among others, thus raising the hope of Nigerians.

Although production of petroleum products is not expected from the plant until later in the year, the completion of Africa’s biggest oil refinery and the world’s biggest single-train facility is projected to create a market for $21billion per annum of Nigerian crude.

According to a report released by S&P Global Commodity Insights, the Dangote Refinery is anticipating the arrival of its first crude batch in June.

However, the inauguration is generating a lot of excitement from government officials, industry players and Nigerians as it has the potential to transform Nigeria from a petrol import-dependent country to an exporter of refined petroleum products

Will it end subsidy?

While it is very unlikely that the start of operation at the refinery would lead to massive reduction in price of petrol, it will reduce freight cost and enhance supply security.

The chairman of Coronation Capital, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, at a recent meeting in Abuja, while noting that the decision to have fuel subsidy in Nigeria is not grounded in any economic thinking but purely political decision, stressed that Dangote Refinery would not necessarily provide solution to the subsidy regime as the facility will operate as an international entity.

“From an economic standpoint you now have the ability to refine 650,000 barrels of crude per day in Nigeria once that refinery is commissioned. On whether or not it is going to mean that you can remove fuel subsidy, the first question should be: Will Nigeria give Dangote subsidised crude oil? At what price will Nigeria give Dangote crude oil?

“If you want to continue with fuel subsidy, the only way the Dangote Refinery is going to be able to generate fuel at sub-international market price is if you give the company subsidised crude oil. Now, Dangote is not asking for subsidised crude oil, nor are Nigerians asking for subsidised crude oil,” the former chief executive officer of Access Bank Plc said.

The president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Comrade Festus Osifo, at the 7th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference in Abuja, said that with the refinery, there would be an impact on the fuel supply dynamics.

“We welcome the bold move by operators of the Dangote Refinery coming on stream soon and hope that its addition would enhance local production, reduce products importation, as well as end the era of uncertainties in petroleum products pricing and evils of subsidy payment,” he said.

Local production, wealth creation

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected that the Dangote Refinery would help Nigeria’s economic recovery drive when it starts production.

The Bretton woods institution said the refinery would help the country improve its current account balance.

“With crude oil for local refining not subject to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota, the refinery also has the potential to catalyse more domestic crude oil production and boost gross domestic product (GDP),” it stated.

The African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) underscored the importance of the establishment of the refinery to the continent.

The organisation said the refinery, which will supply over 12 per cent of Africa’s products demand when it becomes operational, would bring about a 36 per cent reduction in the importation of petroleum productions into the continent.

The organisation also expressed the belief that the success of Dangote Refinery could incentivise the rise of similar projects across Africa despite the current focus on energy transition.

The president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, described the refinery as the best industrialised project to happen to Africa, noting that it would positively impact the economic growth and development of Africa as a continent.

“I see a company I will proudly call Africa’s growth accelerator company. With this project, we see an acceleration of how to reduce imports. We see acceleration on how to have an outbound on export, value chain development and how to compete regionally and globally

“This project will reverse the huge sum the country spends on foreign exchange. We import about $57 billion worth of different products and export only $50.4bn, so we have to balance that with about $7bn. And talking to them here, they showed us that they could have a domestic market of about $11bn; and that is an incredible market that will save Nigeria about $9bn a year from importing petroleum products. So this is huge for Nigeria and even Africa as a continent,” he had said during a tour of the facility in 2022.

The director-general of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr Chinyere Almona, said the refinery would save and generate foreign exchange, create jobs, positively affect the value of the naira, broaden prosperity for the downstream sector and provide growth opportunities for businesses.

“The LCCI views the refinery’s impact on the Nigerian economy as significant. It will also stimulate economic growth by impacting the country’s balance of payments.

“In addition, the Chamber expects the refinery to fuel further growth and development across its value chain, including cosmetics, plastics, textiles etc,” she said.

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) also said the refinery would revolutionise the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.

The federal government, through the then Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, in 2021 signed the term sheet with Dangote Group to buy a 20 per cent stake in the refinery for $2.76bn.

What Nigeria will benefit from refinery – Dangote, Kyari

The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, in an interview with a special edition of London-based The Economists Magazine, titled ‘The World Ahead 2023,’ said with the commencement of operation at the refinery, Nigeria could save up to $10 billion in foreign exchange and generate another $10 billion in exports

Man Arrested For Allegedly Molesting, Impregnate, Daughter For 3 Years

According to the Commandant, the complaint was earlier lodged on a case of defilement, r*pe, and incest in which the suspect is the biological father of the victim.

A 41-year old Nigerian father has been arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi Command.

The man was nabbed for allegedly defiling and r*ping his 16-year old daughter.

The Kogi State Commandant, Ahmad Gandi, who spoke after parading the suspect on Wednesday at NSCDC Command Headquarters, Lokoja, said the command received a complaint lodged by an NGO on May 5.

According to the Commandant, the complaint was earlier lodged on a case of defilement, r*pe and incest in which the suspect is a biological father of the victim.

The commandant said that the abusive act was on for three years from 2020 to 2023, since when the victim was 16 years old.

The five-member panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, adjourned the petition until May 18 for the continuation of the pre-hearing session.

Just a few days ago, a girl ran mad after dropping off a car, which many people concluded the car belongs to a yahoo boy. The girl ran mad immediately the car drove off.

Girls are mostly the victims of these boys. They are their targets and still don’t seems to end. However, yahoo boys are also running mad too. It seems nature is about to catch up with them.

Nevertheless, I have talked about this topic before, but new findings just surface, and this will be the continuation of the previous article.

More so, yes just like I said, yahoo boys are also running mad and nature seem to be catching up with them. A few days earlier, a video and picture of two guys surfaced on the internet.

Two of them own exotic cars, both Lexus cars. One a jeep and the other a normal car. The one with a jeep coming out to talk about his share. Saying he wants is share, and where is his share.

The other pulled off his clothes, sat and laid on the floor, crying that he is tired. After all the money, he isn’t still happy and he is tired of it all. This shows the rich also cry, especially when illegal.

Now, we expatiate on more reasons why most yahoo boys run mad and the reasons why they should quit their evil and follow the due process.

1. Betrayal From Another Yahoo Boy

We know yahoo boys are greedy, so it’s not surprising when these boys betray each other which is common. There is a slang used by these boys called picker.

A picker is someone who uses his foreign connection to send the scammed money to them in Nigeria or via Bitcoin. The picker normally has his share from it.

However, the picker can betray them and such a guy can make the picker run mad via juju, charms or voodoo especially when he knows the picker has more money than him.

Also, if the owner of the scammed money is being greedy, he could be set up by giving him substance to run mad or to match, or via a girl.

2. Reverse Effects

There have been some cases whereby some yahoo boys try to use their parents or siblings, even their girlfriend for money ritual or their destiny for easy picking and such backfire.

Now, when such an act backfires, it usually comes as madness. The reasons why such act backfires is that, either the spirit of such a person is stronger or there is a praying person for such a person’s life.

3. Back To Sender

God is powerful, and the whole world knows. Most people are true worshipers. Their spirit is clean and God has his hands upon their lives.

Most at times, yahoo boys run mad due to back to the sender. How this happens is that most praying people are told about their plans, and they are asked to do some certain things to avert it.

28 oil communities issue 5-day ultimatum to OML34, threaten shut down of operations


About twenty-eight (28) oil host communities in OML34 in Delta State have issued a five-day ultimatum to ND-Western E&P Company and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC E&P Limited to shut down their operations in the Area over alleged negligence, failure and refusal to fulfil their mandatory obligations to the aggrieved host communities.

This is contained in a letter signed by Michael Oghenegueke, Pastor Moses Bekaren, Rufus Onokurefe, Francis Uzoh, Nuwawa Alledy, Okorodudu Solomon and 22 others.

The letter which was dated 1st November was addressed to the Managing Director of NNPC E&P Limited and Chief Operating Officer of ND-Western.

The host communities demanded payment of outstanding penalty fines due to them for expired GMoU from 1st January 2016 to 31st December 2019.

“Also, the payment of penalty fine of N6,250,000 representing 5% of the Project Fund for the belated payment of the 2nd tranche of 2022, recently paid in the fourth week of October 2022, after 3 months of grace from 1st January to 30th September 2022, as provided for in the relevant GMoU documents.”.

PDP Crisis: Northern elders chides Require Ayu's evacuation


People’s Democratic Party Northern Elders’ support group has cautioned Southern party elders, over agitations for removal of party national chairman, Chief Iyorchia Ayu, in order not to overheat the polity and jeopardise the party’s chances in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking against the backdrop of strident calls for the PDP national chairman to step down for someone from the South, National Coordinator of the Group, Dr. Nasiru Aliyu Sadauki said people should be cautious with such calls, if not, it could become a tool of overheating political activities that could hinder the victory of the party in 2023 elections. He added that there must be a peaceful and amicable way of ending the ongoing campaign for the Ayu’s removal to bring enduring peace to the party.

Speaking in a statement after a meeting of members, stakeholders and goodwill ambassadors of the 2022-2023 PDP Community Based Mobilisation Vanguard and presentation of manual and guide for Atiku/Okowa campaign support groups in Kaduna on Thursday, Sadauki said there is the need for all stakeholders to sheath their swords for PDP to unite and progress ahead of inauguration of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council.

“The party leaders should face important issues of economic condition, insecurity, poverty, educational crisis and other challenges that are threatening Nigeria national unity and cohesion as a people rather than majoring in minor issue like calling for the removal of the chairman. There are issues on ground that need leaders to make sacrifice, offer solutions and relief to the public. No sensible party supporter will promote and seek Ayu’s exit in this time of expected cooperation, unity and understanding in the party.

“Nigerians are tired of such media display of arrogant characters by certain group of political elites in the country. Let us face issue and rebuke or disregard any political class who is more interested in seeming public sympathy rather than act to help rebuild the nation.

Eric Bailly claimed Man United favour English players despite only one of them starting at least 20 Premier League games last season.

Erik ten Hag insists nationality is irrelevant when it comes to his team selection process at Manchester United.

United defender Eric Bailly, on a season-long loan at Marseille, said in an interview with The Times the club "favour English players" but "Ten Hag has a lot of character and I hope he can change that dynamic".

Bailly, 27, played 113 times for United across six seasons, averaging fewer than 20 appearances per season. It was reported last season the Cote d'Ivoire international specifically resented the privileges captain Harry Maguire enjoyed.

Maguire was the only English United player who started 20 matches or more in the Premier League last season and United have signed four centre halves at a cost of £216.3million since the £30m arrival of Bailly in 2016.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick scolded Bailly for calling for Maguire to be dropped in a comment on Instagram and Marseille have an obligation to sign the centre-back if they qualify for the Champions League and Bailly plays a certain number of games.

"I have nothing to say about that because it was last season, I wasn't in charge, so I don't know the situation," Ten Hag said. When asked if nationality would have a bearing on his team selection, he replied: "Not for me."

Maguire could be recalled for United's Europa League opener against Real Sociedad on Thursday night and Casemiro could make his full debut.

Even though the Brazilian agreed to join United three weeks ago, he is the only one of the five outfield summer signings yet to make a start.

Scott McTominay has kept Casemiro out of the team in the last three games and earned plaudits for his performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.
