Peter Obi Has An Origin, Credentials And Good Health, Can't Be Compared To Tinubu - Dele Alake

The Peter Obi/Datti Media Office has slammed a former Commissioner of Information in Lagos State, Dele Alake, for saying the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot name any legacy projects of his years of governing Anambra State.

The Director of Strategy and Communication, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Presidential Council, Dele Alake, had stated that Obi could not be compared to Tinubu.

He further stated that Obi would trail far behind in the forthcoming presidential election, adding that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and Tinubu are like night and day.

But reacting in a statement, the Obi/Datti Media Office agreed that the former Anambra governor could not be compared to his APC counterpart.

The Office stated that while Peter Obi’s origin is known, no one knows the origin of the APC presidential candidate.

According to the Obi/Datti office, Alake is undoubtedly among those Lagosians who believe Nigeria begins and ends in Lagos and may not have crossed the River Niger in his lifetime.

The statement reads partly, “He might not have been to Anambra and had been too biased to read up the LP candidate’s records in the public domain.

“Suffice it to say that Obi’s records won him numerous awards, including ‘Governor of the Decade’ while Alake’s paymaster ruled Lagos State.

“Alake also claimed that Obi’s business is anchored on imports that destroy the economy and that he was not around when his principal struggled for democracy.

“Again, the attack dog is either mischievous or ignorant about Obi being the only chief executive of his era with the most investment of state funds that not only boosted the economy but also provided jobs, not to talk of Obi’s education policy that has taken Anambra State from number 29th to first in the school certificate performance index.

“If Alake is current, he should not have celebrated Asiwaju’s role in the democracy struggle because it has been diminished since it was revealed that he lobbied to be made a minister in late Sani Abacha’s government and only joined NADECO after he was rejected by the junta.

“However, Alake gave out one fact that the Media Office agrees with: indeed, Obi cannot be compared to Alake’s candidate.

“Yes, they are not comparable; Obi is highly verifiable, but Alake’s man is not; Obi has an origin; Alake’s has none; Obi has educational credentials; his counterpart has affidavits; Obi is hale and hearty and ready to face the challenge of leading Nigeria, the other candidate acts by proxy; Alake’s man says it’s his turn to rule Nigeria, Obi says it’s the turn of Nigerians to take back their country.

A video showing the moment a man proposed to his lover at Peter Obi’s political rally held on Sunday, 28th August has surfaced on social media.

Naija News reports the supporters, mostly youths held a solidarity march for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi in Onitsha

The march is part of the support for the Obi/Datti 2023 presidential ticket.

Similar marches are understood to have taken place in Auchi (Edo State), Makurdi (Benue State), Afikpo (Ebonyi State) and Port Harcourt.

2023: 'Kwankwaso Not Venturing Down For Tinubu, He Has Acquired Buhari's 12 Million Northern Votes

Dismissing claims that Kwankwaso might ask his supporters to vote for Tinubu, the former lawmaker said the former governor is not considering merging with the APC.

He said his principal now controls the northern votes of President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that no presidential candidate can beat Kwankwaso in the country’s northern region.

Jibrin said: “We have debunked these lies over and over again. It is an attempt to give a wrong impression to the public for one or two parties to be able to raise their standing in public.

“Kwankwaso is a practical politician. We are serious-minded people. We are not in this race for anyone, and I have said it over and over again.

“People should disregard all these rumours that ‘Kwankwaso is working for Asiwaju, We are going to merge with APC.’

See Reasons Falconets exceeded at Istanbul Air terminal – NFF.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday gave clarification of Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s team, Falconets overstaying for 24 hours in Istanbul following their exit from the Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Falconets were en route to Abuja after bowing out of the tournament on Sunday, following a 0-2 loss to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals stage.

Pictures of the team sleeping on the floor at the Istanbul Airport surfaced on social media with fans blaming the Federation for negligence.

However, Demola Olajire, NFF’s Head of Communications, said in a statement, that the situation was due to inability to secure transit visas for the team.

Olajire also reported Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the NFF, as saying that the tickets were booked by FIFA and not the federation.

“The NFF did not book the team’s tickets from Costa Rica, FIFA did.

“FIFA also did not envisage the hitches that saw the team delayed for more than three hours in Bogota, and another one hour in Panama. By the time the team got to Istanbul, the flight to Abuja had left.

“Our officials pleaded for compassionate transit visas to take the players and officials to a hotel inside the town, but this was not possible.

“They were informed that Nigeria had been removed from the list of countries whose citizens were issued visa-on-arrival in Turkey.

The factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi has expressed confidence that he would emerge as the authentic candidate of the party.

ROVINGUPDATES reports that in May, Sowunmi and Ladi Adebutu were declared winners in parallel governorship primary elections held in the state.

Displeased with the outcome, Sowunmi filed a suit against the Ogun PDP over the governorship election.

In the suit, he asked the appeal court to dissolve the executive committee of Ogun PDP on the premise that the state executive was biased by obtaining the form for Ladi Adebutu.

In an interview with our spokesman on Friday, Sowunmi expressed optimism that the issue would be settled and he will emerge victorious.

He added that if the outcome of the case favours Adebutu, he would congratulate him, wish him the best of luck and move on.

He said: “As far as the governorship election in Ogun State is concerned, you know I’m in court already with them and it is my belief that in due season, this matter will be settled one way or the other and I am praying to God that am victorious and lucky but If the other man that gets victorious too, I will wish him best of luck and we would move on.”

You Will Be President Of Nigeria One Day- Jerry Gana praise Gov. Nyesom Wike

Former Minister and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerry Gana has praised the leadership credentials of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying the Governor will become President of Nigeria one day.

“You have demonstrated the power of good leadership in delivering development projects to the people of Rivers state.

PHOTOS: 45-year-old Man Dies After Hard Drugs Burst Inside His Stomach

The identity of the 45-year-old Nigerian man known as Ibrahim, who died in India after drug capsule he smuggling burst inside his stomach, has emerged.


ETV Bharat reports that the deceased was found dead in Delhi after he was declared missing by his wife who lodged a complaint with the Kondwa Police Station in Pune.

It was gathered that late Ibrahim came from Nigeria to Pune about a decade ago and was married to an Indian woman from Kondhwa area of the city.

Trouble started when Ibrahim complained about abdominal pain and was admitted to AllMS hospital in India.

However, he tried to escape from the hospital as he was allegedly carrying drug capsules in his stomach, according to the police.

An autopsy report revealed Ibrahim had drugs in his stomach as at when he was admitted to the hospital over abdominal pain.

Speaking about the incident, Inspector Aviraj Kurade of Mira Road said that the police had informed Ibrahim’s wife about his death and an identification paraded was also conducted to identify the deceased.

He added that investigators found that Ibrahim used to meet his friend, Andy in the Mira Nagar area.

Upon receiving information that Ibrahim has died in Delhi, a team of officials from the Mira Nagar Police station was sent to Delhi.

Ibrahim was suspected to be a drug dealer and had swallowed capsules of drugs to hide them which later burst in his stomach.

Further investigation is going on, police added.

ROVINGUPDATES reports that universities lecturers have been on strike since February 14, 2022 over unresolved issues with the federal government.

Some of their demands include improved welfare for lecturers, revitalisation fund for public universities, implementation of the 2009 agreement, and dropping the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) for the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has berated the representatives of the Federal Government involved in the negotiation with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).


Naija News reports that the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, are the representatives of the government negotiating with ASUU.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, on Friday, Bello said the ministers are being insensitive with their utterances and not representing President Muhammadu Buhari well.

The governor stated that President Buhari cares so much about education and the education sector, saying that the Nigerian leader will not allow the education system to collapse under his watch.

Governor Bello said those who the president directed to handle the protracted ASUU strike are embarrassing him, He, however, President Buhari to ensure that the prolonged strike is addressed.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has revealed why it rejected the new offer made by the Federal Government.

BREAKING: ASUU’s Insistence On 6-Month Salary Stalling Negotiations – Federal Govt

The federal government has blamed its inability to negotiate with university lecturers on insistence by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that they must be paid salaries for the six months they had been on strike.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to State House correspondents yesterday during the weekly ministerial briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the presidential villa.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari rejected the demand outrightly when he presented the report to him. “All contentious issues between the government and ASUU had been settled except the quest for members’ salaries for the period of strike, a demand that Buhari has flatly rejected,” he said.

The minister said the president’s position had been communicated to the lecturers who are expected to call off the strike.
He stated that the rejection was to curb the excesses of trade unions that want to be paid for work not done.

Adamu said the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) payment system proposed by ASUU has outscored the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) already in use by the government, which the lecturers are kicking against.

He also said IPPIS has been updated to now accommodate payment of those on sabbatical.
“Just one thing that I was reminded of is that even the current IPPIS has been made to accommodate sabbatical. I didn’t know this. Somebody just told me,” Adamu noted.

The lecturers had accused the federal government of not taking into consideration the peculiarities of tertiary institutions in the IPPIS.

But Adamu also debunked the report that UTAS had not been approved by government as the payment platform for university lecturers.

He said the government has proposed a new salary to the unions which he said the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT), have accepted in principle and are now consulting with their members with a view to calling off the strike in the next one month.

He, however, commended the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) for calling off its own strike.

He said the federal government has invested over N2.5 trillion in tertiary education in the last ten years, exceeding the sum of N1.2 trillion ASUU is demanding.

The minister also said it is the responsibility of ASUU to compensate students for the time wasted by the six-month strike, not the federal government.

Adamu suggested that the affected students should “take ASUU to court” to claim for damages incurred over strike period.

He said the federal government bears no liability to compensate millions of students grounded for six months over lost time, saying if the students are determined to get compensated, they should take ASUU to court.

The minister said it is important for the public to be aware that “the federal government is paying the salaries of every staff in its tertiary institutions, academic and non-academic staff, while these institutions are also in full control of their internally generated revenue (IGR).

“We are doing everything humanly possible to conclude the negotiations. It is our hope that the outcome of the renegotiations will bring lasting industrial peace to our campuses. In the meantime, I am sure that the current efforts would yield the desired results and return our children back to school.”

Adamu also called for crackdown on perpetrators of examination malpractice, which he said had been uncovered as a cartel.
He called on the examiners to work closely with law enforcement agencies to “crackdown on examination malpractice”.

According to him, despite efforts to raise the integrity of the examination system in schools nationwide, the ministry still grapples with malpractice perpetrated both at the exams councils and school levels.

The minister also said the Buhari administration has spent a total of N6,003,947,848,237 in capital and recurrent expenditure in the education sector in the last seven years.

He said this was in addition to interventions from TETFund and UBEC, amounting to N2.5 trillion and N553,134,967,498 respectively in capital investment.

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have uncovered a ritualist den with 20 mummified corpses in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, in a statement on Wednesday, August 17, said the suspected ritualist den was uncovered along Asoro slope, off Ekenhuan road, in Uzebu quarters.

According to Iwegbu, operatives of the command stormed the scene following credible intelligence received. Three suspects were arrested while others fled.

The statement read,

“In pursuance of its operational mandate of nipping crimes in the bud, Operatives of the Edo State Police Command 17/08/2022 unravelled a suspected ritual shrine. Following credible information at the Command’s disposal that some corpses were discovered in a building along Asoro slope off Ekenhua road, Uzebu quarters,Benin city. Operatives of the command immediately swung into action and mobilized to the scene.

“At the scene, 3 suspects, Chimaobi Okoewu ‘M’ and Oko Samuel ‘M’ both of Afikpo in Ebonyi and Gideon Sunday ‘M’ of Akwa-Ibom State were arrested while others fled. An intensive effort is ongoing to arrest the other fleeing suspects. 15 mummified male corpses, 3 mummified female corpses and 2 mummified children corpses were discovered at the scene

“To this end, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of state CID to carry out a discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the discovered corpses and therefore enjoins the general public to be calm as the command will continue to ensure the safety of all law-abiding citizens and those residing in Edo state.”

Premier League club, Tottenham have completed the £15million signing of Italy-born Nigerian defender, Destiny Udogie from Udinese but have been immediately loaned back to his old club.

The 19-year-old left-back agreed to a five-year contract that would see him be a Spurs player until 2027 but will first, spend the 2022/23 season on a season-long loan with Udinese.

The youngster signed the deal after flying into England at the weekend.

Senator representing Edo South, Matthew Urhoghide has carpeted those calling for the removal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.


Urhoghide in a recent interview submitted that removing Ayu as the PDP national chairman now will be sending a message to the public that he is incompetent to lead the party.

According to him, Ayu can only be removed if the PDP wins the 2023 presidential election and both the chairman and the President are from the same region.

The Senator argued that there is absolutely no law that says the PDP national chairman and the party’s presidential candidate can’t be from the same region.

ROVINGUPDATES reports he made his view known during an interview with Vanguard in which he spoke about calls to remove Ayu as the PDP national chairman.

According to him, the timing for the call is not right, adding that in his assessment, Ayu has led the PDP creditably and is less than two years into his four-year tenure.

He said: “How will you remove Ayu now, at least the National Working Committee, NWC, has not won the presidential election?

“It is when you have won the presidential election that you can say the President cannot come from the north. Nobody said that the presidential candidate cannot come from the north and the chairman of the party cannot come from the north, it is after winning that you will be thinking of removing the chairman of the party and zoning it to another place, then it will be said that yes, it is in conformity with the provision of the party’s constitution.

“So if you remove him now before the election, you are only sending a message that he is incompetent or he has committed one infraction or the other, but he should be the one. So far, so good, the direction he has given, the leadership he has given to the party, I am talking about the administration of the party now, for me, it can mean some other things to some other people; so I think there is no need for his removal. But after the election, through rearrangement of positions because we are now in power, then of course, he can now voluntarily say I agree that this thing should be moved to somewhere else. He has been elected for four years and he has just started his journey, we are not even into his second year yet.”

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Iyiochia Ayu has declared he has no intention of resigning from his position over the current crisis which has engulfed the party.

Details have emerged claiming some governors in the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are angry with the slow pace of reconciliation talks with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his loyalists.

ROVINGUPDATES, however, gathered that the reconciliation teams of Atiku and Wike are considering a new date for their meeting, which may be scheduled for Friday.

Recall that a meeting between the two groups initially scheduled for Monday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State did not hold due to engagements by the Atiku group in Adamawa State.

A party source, who craved anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the public on the matter, said some of the Governors in the Atiku camp are beginning to fret over the apparent deadlock in the talks.

“This could have explained why the governors did not join Atiku in Yola on Monday, where a reception was held in his honour.

“Apart from the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who was the host governor, only the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who is Atiku’s running mate, attended the event.

“Other PDP governors in his camp who ordinarily ought to be there stayed away from the event,” the source told The Nation.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Senator Ben Obi, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), and Senator Liyel Imoke are part of the Atiku’s reconciliation team.
