@NAIRATREND.COM.NG President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday expressed the belief that despite the scoffing of a minority, Nigeria is resolutely on the road to a new dawn. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said this while commending two security men who returned a handbag filled with valuables forgotten at the Murtala Muhammed Airport by an American returnee. Buhari asked Nigerians to imitate the security men, saying such conduct reflected the new Nigeria that we all desire. He said, “Honesty remains the best policy. We must exhibit such behaviour in whatever position we find ourselves, whether high or low. “The security men could have chosen to behave differently, following the self-serving principle of ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’ “But they have chosen to be examples of good, honest Nigerians. I recommend their conduct to the rest of the country.” The President urged Nigerians to bring out the best in themselves at all times, noting that with such minds, they can never be hoodwinked again by those who seek power for selfish and dubious reasons and return the country to an inglorious past. “Nigeria will no longer be a by-word for corruption and plundering of public resources. That is the path we have chosen to take, and our country will eventually get to a new shore,” Buhari said. A Lagos-based medical doctor, Banji Oyegbami, was said to have met a family returning from America at the airport on August 18, 2018. In the process of loading their luggage into the car of their host, the handbag of the returnee’s wife reportedly fell, unknown to anyone. About 90 minutes later, an officer of Halogen Securities who was on duty at the airport called the couple to come for the misplaced bag. When the bag was eventually collected, the contents, including a handsome amount of American dollars, phone, wrist watch, and other valuables were intact. The grateful couple offered a generous gift, but Messrs Francis Emepueaku and Achi Daniel, declined, saying they were merely doing their duties. @NAIRATREND.COM.NG Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that what he saw at the Allianz Stadium in Turin motivated him to joined the Serie A champions. Ronaldo joined the Italian giants from Real Madrid earlier this summer in a 100-million-euro deal. The Portuguese international earned a standing ovation from the Turin crowd when he scored a spectacular overhead kick at the Allianz Stadium for Real Madrid last season in the Champions League. “The small details make the big difference at the end of the day so…I would say what I saw in the stadium helped (his move),” Ronaldo said in an interview with streaming broadcaster DAZN. “And, of course, when the people start to applaud me in the stadium I was like, ‘wow’. “It surprised me a lot because this has never happened in my life, so it was an unbelievable moment.” Ronaldo, however, said he had been impressed with his new club since joining last month in a 100-million-euro deal. “I’m very happy, the team is strong and Juve, as everyone knows, is one of the best clubs in the world,” Ronaldo continued. “I’m positively surprised, we train hard twice a day. I like how they train, their mentality. They have special methods, they are very, very professional and for this reason I feel good. “There are things in life that seem to be dictated by destiny and in this case it was like that. “I never expected to play in this team, but some things happen naturally, for me it was an easy decision, what was done in Madrid is incredible, I won everything, my family lives there, but it’s part of the past. “I want to try to write the story in this club.” GIST VIA - https://nairatrend.com.ng/ronaldo-reveals-what-he-saw-that-made-him-leave-real-madrid-for-juventus/

@NAIRATREND.COM.NG Governor KAshim Shettima has promised not tointerfere with governorship primaries in Borno state The governor said he is happy and thankful to Allah who have given them this opportunity to celebrate this Eid El kabir According to him, it is only God that gives power to whom He desires The governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, has assured the people of the state that he would not be interfering with the 2019 gubernatorial primaries . Shettima said it is only God that gives power to whom He desires. Speaking while hosting his last Sallah party for APC stakeholders at Government House, Maiduguri, on Tuesday, August 21, Shettima thanked the people of Borno state for the solidarity and support given to him in the last seven years as a governor. He also cautioned some politicians who he alleged have looted the state treasury, owned four private airlines and newly joined the ruling party to dictate a successor for him for 2019. It was reported that the governor said his administration survived issues of insecurity following attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, rebuilding of destroyed communities and schools, provision of social amenities and restoration of the dignity of Borno people, especially Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs. The governor said: “I am happy and thankful to Allah who have given us this opportunity to celebrate this Eid El kabir. Although this could be my last time to host you as governor at the government house as my tenure elapse in May next year, I would like to appeal to all who I have offended to please forgive me." “I want to also said that for some of our colleagues who are planting some seeds of discord to create disunity among us in APC because of who may emerge as my successor, will definitely fail in their mission, because, it is only Allah who give power to whom he desire," Shettima said. “For some of us who have turned themselves as insurgency politicians, they will all be disappointed Insha Allah. Where are these insurgency politicians when we were battling with real insurgents, most of them relocated out of Borno to Abuja and safe areas, and we will not tolerate a situation where these run away insurgency politicians come back to Borno and cause disaffection among our ranks. “I want to assure that I will not in any way as governor interfere with the upcoming governorship primaries of our great party. All I know is that many, of course, will come out and contest, but only one person will emerge as governor of Borno State come 2019. “Whoever emerges as candidate, we will definitely support the person to come out victorious to continue from where I will stop," he concluded. Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Shettima, had warned his colleagues in the 35 states of Nigeria to stop stealing public funds in their custody just to remain wealthy. Shettima said rather than think of enriching themselves through such criminal means, they should concentrate on improving the lives of the people of their states. @NAIRATREND.COM.NG In fulfilment of the promise made by the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose on the recruitment of 1,000 teachers and another 1,000 various categories of workers into the State public service, the final process of the recruitment exercise has commenced. Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, who made this known in a statement on Friday, said; “In addition to the forms already obtained free of charge by the applicants, forms are now available at the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Health and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies. “Forms for applicants seeking employment into the junior cadres of the public service are available at N500 each while those for the senior cadres are N1,000 each till August 24, 2018.” Olayinka, who berated the State Governor-Elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his party, APC for criticising the recruitment exercise, said; “With less than two weeks to the end of his tenure in 2014, Fayemi appointed eight permanent secretaries and they are still in office up till now. He also recruited several workers behind closed doors and they are still in the service.” He said rather than acting like an alternate government, Fayemi should wait till October 16 that he will begin to enjoy the benefits of the July 14 electoral fraud. “It is on record that Governor Fayose announced in January this year that recruitment will be made into the State public service and this was followed up with distribution of employment forms in May. “This was consequent upon the existing vacancies in the public service, especially the teaching sector. There are schools without adequate teachers in critical subjects like Mathematics, Physics, English and others. So the students that are resuming in September should wait till Fayemi assumes office? “Most importantly, Fayose will carry out all the functions of his office till October 16 and since there is need to employ workers, the government will do so through a transparent process. “Isn’t it funny that the same APC people who criticised the government for constructing a modern Oja Oba Market in Ado Ekiti are now kicking against allocation of the shops to the people? So Governor Fayose should build the market for Fayemi to come and allocate the shops to his cronnies? “The APC in Ekiti State should therefore be reminded that there is still a government in the State and that government will not change until October 16, 2018.” GIST VIA - https://nairatrend.com.ng/ekiti-govt-slams-apc-for-kicking-against-recruitment-of-2000-workers/

@NAIRATREND.COM.NG Muslim pilgrims on Monday began ascending Mount Arafat for the climax of the annual hajj which brings together more than two million people from around the world. A sea of worshippers scaled the rocky hill southeast of the holy city of Mecca for a day of prayers and reflection where Muslims believe Prophet Mohammed delivered his final sermon. Some of the pilgrims — men in white seamless garments and women in loose dresses — pushed elderly relatives in wheelchairs on the second day of the hajj, one of the world’s largest annual gatherings. A hot wind blew across the hill, also known as Jabal al-Rahma (Mount of Mercy), and the surrounding plain after a downpour late Sunday. Many faithful could be seen sipping from bottles of water. After sunset, the pilgrims will leave for nearby Muzdalifah where they will gather pebbles to perform the symbolic “stoning of the devil”. The ritual begins in earnest on Tuesday as Muslims observe the first day of Eid al-Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice, which marks the end of the hajj. Muslims traditionally slaughter sheep for the three-day Eid al-Adha, a tribute to the prophet Abraham’s sacrifice of a lamb after God spared Ishmael, his son. They will consume some of the meat and give the rest to poor people unable to buy food. The hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam which every Muslim is required to complete at least once in their lifetime if they are healthy enough and have the means to do so.
