According to Spanish sports daily AS, Manchester City have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Samuel Chukwueze in the summer transfer window. The Citizens have been closely monitoring the development of the Nigeria international since he broke into the Villarreal first team. But Pep Guardiola's side are not the only Premier League club tracking the right winger, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool also keeping tabs on the Diamond Academy product. An interested club have to pay Chukwueze's 100 million euros (N46 billion in Nigerian currency) release clause for the deal to go through amid speculation that Chelsea have lined him up as an alternative to the expensive Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. The Super Eagle has renewed his contract twice since transferring to Villarreal and now has a deal that runs until June 30, 2023. Chukwueze has 68 games under his belt for Villarreal's first team, scoring 12 goals and setting up seven others. Source: https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=36298

The clamour by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, that the party should give automatic tickets to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his counterpart in Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has been condemned by Chief Lanre Razak, a stalwart of the party in Lagos State. He said apart from being unconstitutional, undemocratic and disappointing, the suggestion showed that the elder statesman still has an axe to grind with his successor in office, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, urging Oyegun to be part of genuine attempt to find a lasting solution to the crisis rocking the party in the state rather than take side with the governor. Razak, who is a former commissioner for public transportation in Lagos State, in a statement on Thursday said: “I felt disappointed in Oyegun’s prescribed solution to the crisis in Edo APC when he suggested that our great party should give automatic tickets to candidates in two states when he knew too well that doing so is not only undemocratic but unconstitutional. “And his point of view has exposed him that he has not fully forgiven Comrade Adams Oshiomole, the man that took over from him as the National Chairman of the party when he was still interested in the position. “We expect that as a former National Chairman of APC and elder statesman he should learn how to forgive and forget. As at now, we look upon him as a part of those who should be proffering solution to the crisis rocking the party and not to take side thereby complicating matters. He should allow direct primaries throw up the best candidate who will fly the party’s flag and be accepted by the electorate in Edo State rather than promote the candidacy of the incumbent governor’’. Razak who is also the Balogun- General of Epe advised members of the party in Edo State to allow democracy takes its full course, and while exercising their constitutionally guaranteed fundamental human right to vote and be voted for should remember that they belong to the same political family and make fair play, discipline, decency, and peace their watchwords. “They should see the contest as a game and not a do-or-die affair where a winner and loser must emerge and should comport themselves peacefully before and after the primary so that after the exercise they can unite and defeat the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to win the governorship seat for APC in the state on September 19, 2020. Meanwhile, Razak has applauded the direct primary adopted by the National Working Committee, NWC of the APC for the governorship primary fixed for June 22, in Edo State, insisting that a progressive party like the APC should not bar aspirants from exercising their rights to contest any public office on the ground that the incumbents ‘have performed’ and should be given ‘right of first refusal’, which is not contained in the APC constitution and therefore null and void. He said: “Regarding the 2020 Edo gubernatorial election, I fully support the APC NWC’s decision to conduct direct primaries in Edo State while a decision is being awaited on Ondo State. In doing so, it relied on the powers and provision of Article 13.4 (XIV) which unequivocally states that NWC shall “Organise Primary Election for the nomination of its Presidential Candidates, Governorship Candidates and Candidates for election into the National and State Assemblies. “I strongly believe that a direct and not indirect primary offers the best opportunity for the incumbent governors to test their popularity among the members of our great party since they claimed to be very popular instead of hiding under the COVID-19 pandemic safety concerns to impose themselves on the party if they are allowed to have their way. ‘’But officials of the party saddle with the responsibility of conducting the primaries should ensure that there is a level playing field for all contestants while the exercises should be free, fair and devoid of any manipulation. “As a matter of fact, if other aspirants are jostling for Obaseki’s job in Edo for example, it tells you that our members are hungry for a change in the status quo in the ‘Heartbeat’ State. Denying them their constitutionally guaranteed right to contest the primary therefore will amount to a great injustice and a rape on democracy. 7lives:They are. Obaseki was too careless to have been used and misadvised by SSG, Ogie and the Deputy Governor, Shuaibu. Apart from these 2 personalities and Odigie Oyegun, Obaseki camp lacks heavy weight politicians in the foregoing battle. Only God will save him. If at all he negotiates his way through, I bet you, the Deputy Governorship position will be traded in favour of the other camp. In that case, current Deputy Governor will loose out. |

BleedingPen:Na wa for Benin o. The ancient city is actually living to it's derogatory name as a land of blood sacrifices(zobo). No day passes without hearing of cult related killings, particular between Eiye and Aye cult groups sharing unnecessary blood; kidnappings and blood money rituals everywhere, not to mention the Yahoo plus rituals. May God have mercy on Benin, Edo State and Nigeria as a whole. Killings are too much. ANYWAY, my take is that the investigation should start from the Pastor, the choir master/members and forensic analysis should be done on the phone. Someone that she knows must be involved. Maybe the the person must have been disturbing her or pestering her for sex. And at what time she went to read should be taken into account. |

Jane’s* husband likes breast milk. “He says he likes the taste of it, and that it helps him in terms of his health. He feels good afterward,” said the 20-year-old from Uganda, who has a six-month-old baby. Jane said her husband started asking for her milk the night she came home from the hospital after giving birth. “He said it was to help me with the milk flow. I felt it was OK.” Men drinking their partners’ breast milk is not uncommon in some areas of Uganda, and in parts of Tanzania and Kenya. It is now being linked to gender violence and coercive behaviour and there are concerns over the impact on babies’ nutrition. Little was known about the practice until Uganda’s minister of state for health, Sarah Opendi, broke the silence in parliament in 2018 and warned against “a growing culture of men demanding to suckle, which was becoming a problem for some breastfeeding mothers and their babies”. The reasons for the phenomenon, and its consequences, are now the subject of what is believed to be the first preliminary study into the practice, by Kyambogo University in Kampala and Britain’s University of Kent, supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund. “It was very much an exploratory mission. We didn’t know if we would find anybody willing to talk to us who admitted to doing it. We didn’t even really know if it was real or not,” said Dr Rowena Merritt, a British behavioural scientist who specialises in public health, and a lead researcher on the project. The study focused on the rural Buikwe district, in the central region, where the behaviour is reported to be common. Anonymised interviews were conducted with a group of four men who worked as “boda boda” motorcycle taxi drivers. “One said: ‘I know other men do it, but we’ve never talked about it.’ So that to me would suggest that it is a common behaviour, but it isn’t socially accepted,” said Merritt. The preliminary research suggested that men often drink before the child is fed, usually once a day, sometimes more frequently, and for about an hour at a time. The men said they found it energising. “It sustains me, I come home for lunch and it relieves stress in the middle of the working day,” said Thomas*. “There is a belief in some communities that breast milk has energising and curative powers, even curing diseases such as HIV and Aids and cancer,” said Dr Peter Rukundo, a senior lecturer at Kyambogo University who assisted with the research. The men also said it was a way of initiating s3x and showing affection. “But then it is happening to women who have just given birth,” he added. One man told the researchers: “When breastfeeding, I feel like I’m being looked after like a child, and this becomes addictive. I feel like a prince.” Women did not seem to have much choice in the matter. “It appears to be a hugely coerced behaviour from the people we spoke to,” added Merritt. When asked what might happen if she said no, one woman replied: “I fear that my husband might go elsewhere if I wouldn’t let it happen.” Thomas admitted that resistance could result in the women being beaten. “She can’t say no because you become obsessed, it’s hard to stop. If women say no it can cause violence, it’s a big issue,” he said. The behaviour has been linked to gender-based violence in the Karamoja region in north-east Uganda. “The principal nutritionist has claimed that it is a common practice there in the form of violence, that when the men get drunk some went for the breasts forcefully,” said Rukundo. Health professionals, including midwives and nutritionists, told researchers about cases where babies had to be given formula milk because partners wanted the breast milk, and where women came to the clinic with infected or bitten nipples caused by a man suckling. There are also risks to babies of cross-infection from the man’s saliva. “There is a gap in public awareness of the risks in such practices. But the challenge is we don’t have the evidence of the magnitude of this behaviour. We need a survey on prevalence,” said Rukundo. He also called on government and development partners to work together to mitigate harm. “We don’t have any clear message or deliberate effort, despite the health minister saying the issue is there. So, in a way, it is denial. If they remain silent, the issue will remain underground,” he said. Merritt added: “The fear for me, is the longer that this continues it will become part of the culture and tradition for the next generation. I see parallels with FGM.” Source: The Guardian |

Hi Born2Breed:You just woke from sleep to dig up your pix from your pre-covid 19 archives. In the COVID-19 era, appropriate measures will be taken. Common sense should instill in you that a crowd of like 100-200 persons is easier to control than a crowd of over 4,000 persons. Don't allow your emotions to suppress your common sense, pls. |

Born2Breed:Before you made a senseless comment, go and do research and understand which is better health wise, between indirect and direct primary elections. To tutor you, in direct primary, voters, normally in low number of like 100 to 200 persons or less, vote in their respective polling units in their localities and no need to travel far to Benin where thousands congregate in one venue to vote. For the Indirect, delegates are sent to Benin, traveling in buses to a single venue, where they congregate like a market place to make their votes. Indirect elections negates the directives of the relevant health authorities as regards social distancing. |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned its members to neither submit lecture notes for e-learning nor attend virtual meetings. On the heels of the COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria, private varsities have sought out options for virtual learning while government-run institutions were directed to begin delivering lectures online. However, due to the tussle between ASUU and federal government over the former’s rejection of the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the union had embarked on a strike action amid the COVID-19 lockdown. In a letter obtained by TheCable Lifestyle, ASUU’s national body stated that sanctions would be meted out to those who submit their lecture notes for e-learning or attend virtual meetings to that effect. Describing the newfound scramble for e-learning as a “wild goose chase,” the union said universities are bereft of ICT infrastructure that would have prepared them for e-platforms due to poor funding. “Some VCs have embarked on the wild goose chase of e-learning in universities bereft of befitting ICT infrastructures due to poor funding by the government. Do not submit your lecture notes, participate in virtual meetings, etc. Violators shall be sanctioned,” read the letter, dated May 21, and signed by Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU’s president.
