Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nickyosas(m): 5:42am On Mar 10, 2023
Thanks so much!
I just replaced the gear...tired of wahala jare.
But 2 codes popped up after...I can't seem to rev the car at all.

P0108
P0123

Any ideas to "guide" the mechanic?
Thanks?

Conner44:

A gear specialist can work on it. It’s showing issues with its temperature sensor and a pressure solenoid and an internal shift control solenoid. All can be replaced and your clutch packs checked for damage. I don’t know how good the person you took it to is but it can definitely be worked on.

Good morning!

I drive a 2008 Honda Crv EX-L

Had some issues with my transmission, gear was slipping. Took it to a "gear specialist" who claimed to have scanned the car and seen the issue.

Anyways, he did his "fix", I got the car back, wasn't satisfied with the job then I scanned.

My 2008 Honda Crv threw the following code:
P0713
P0747
P1731
P0780

Is this gear still salvage-able or I should "sope otilo"?

ok. Thanks for the input.
so far though, i cleaned out the throttle body and the MAF sensor and it has somewhat brought sanity....the rpm since yesterday doesn't drop past 800, 700min.

Still unsure if i would need to change the compressor though...i have never changed it.

monshow25:
low refrigerant from the A/C system can cause and mostly the compressor control valve might be faulty so you might need to change your compressor

No

Kokomo:

Do you experience the same problem when the AC is off?
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nickyosas(m): 3:08pm On Oct 14, 2022
hi.
so, I cleaned the throttle body, and also the MAF sensor.
My RPM on idle now hovers around 800 - 1000 from the previous below 400.
I had to also relearn the throttle by leaving the car on idle for more than 5 minutes.
Since yesterday, no issues with the AC on park or while driving...However, i have noticed a jerk when the car changes from the first gear to the 2nd.
But the AC is not stalling the car and the rpm is not falling below 400 anymore....as at this morning.

Thurmieee:

Any solution to your car?
I change the throttle body. The issue still persists......I told d meco to high the rpm......it kinda stopped but the fuel usage is like times 2
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nickyosas(m): 3:37pm On Oct 12, 2022
Lets hope there is solution. would also share the updates so we all can be educated.

Thurmieee:

This is my exact problem too.
Scanned it no codes

Thanks Sir.
Would try to clean the throttle body....But, can i ask the mech to increase the engine speed/rpm?

Conner44:

Since you have no check engine light on then maybe the vehicle is due for service. The throttle body could be clogged up especially if you haven’t gone there in a while even when changing the engine oil

Good afternoon.
Honda CRV 2008 recently started having this problem: The AC works fine while driving, but once it comes to idle or at at a traffic stop light, the car suddenly shudders with a drop in the rpm and in some instances dies. I start it back on, and it work again till the next stop sign and it happens all over again. I have scanned and there no codes. i would really appreciate your comments.

I would follow the sequence as you outlined and hopefully, my heart no go cut.

Thanks a lot...I really appreciate.

PS. So I just kuku buy another engine?

Conner44:

Sorry maybe i wasn’t clear before

after you change the sensors you should find a scanner to clear the codes (or remove the negative battery terminal for 10minutes and put it back) then start the car and take it on a test drive and watch if the code will pop up again

If it doesn’t then you’ve solved the issue

But if the same code comes up again it simply means that you have to change your timing chain and tensioner as soon as you can or stop using the car for the meantime

That code you’re getting means your timing chain has stretched dangerously and is overdue for a change. That’s why your car is in limp mode and not allowing you go past a certain speed. The car is just giving you rope to go to the mechanic grin left for the engine it’s ready to keep you stranded in a heartbeat

Your engine is an interference type so if that stretched chain should break while you’re driving the first thing you will feel is a tremendous loss of power then your engine will sound like a horse galloping on tarmac and at that moment if you happen to take a look in your rear view mirror you’d definitely see a big white cloud of smoke escaping from your exhaust pipe

Most of the damage will happen in your cylinder head and below is a good list of stuff you would need to repair the engine if you’re lucky

front chain guide
upper chain guide
rear chain guide
tensioner
Timing chain
A number of cylinder intake or exhaust rocker assemblies and valves
Cylinder head gasket
Mechanic Workmanship

If you’re very unlucky your engine will vomit it’s piston through the block and out of your bonnet (hopefully not through the firewall wink towards your blokos)

Then you’d also need to change pistons, rings, camshafts, etc——finally ——> kuku buy another engine

It’s a very serious stuffs bros undecided

Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nickyosas(m): 12:37am On Jan 27, 2022
Thanks Conner44.
If I may ask, if I do change the camshaft sensors, why do I have still have to change the timing chain ?
Conner44:

From the codes that popped up from your vehicle it means your case is very deadly to your engine if not handled properly and on time.

Your camshaft position sensors are on the top (driver) side of your engine so tell rewire to check the wires and sensors then maybe change them both if the wires seemed fine.

If the sensors themselves are good then you’d have to quickly change out your timing chain and tensioner rod or else you will risk your chain breaking and the pistons colliding with your valves and destroying your engine

Good afternoon.
Have the following problem with my 2008 HONDA CRV
1. Car suddenly dies while driving (did this like 5 times at different locations today) but starts immediately i turn it on.
2. Accelerating is sluggish an jerks and doesnt exceed 4000rpm...it would just rev high but wont change speed.

scanned it and showed the following codes;
P0010 - A camshaft position / actuator circuit open Bank 1
P0339 - Camshaft position Sensor A circuit intermittent

Please, i want to know ;
1. how much fixing this might cost

Also, i would be glad to get an estimate for a complete rewiring work for the car. Thanks

Thanks very much sir.
Collione:

P2184: Coolant temperature sensor issues. Get a rewire to check it out or replace it.

P0533: AC refrigerant pressure sensor issues.

P0133: Bank 1 Oxygen sensor slow response. Check for exhaust leaks , vaccume leaks , a broken oxygen sensor wire else replace if your checks seems ok

P0010: check oil control solenoid usually found at the left side of the engine

Alas! It's still our religious leaders that benefits the most from these politricksians as they are the ones who can afford to donate millions in offerings, tithes and seeds.

You sample 2 or 4 LGAs out of 20 and like that, commend the Lagos state government (which I dare say is still asleep) for fixing the potholes....where

This is not a criticism but a fact...Lagos is really really stumbling along in all honesty.

It's harsh to say this but with the way development in the state are going, one can deduce that it's going to be a huge task for any Lagos State governor topping or even matching the strides of Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Nigeria sha!

1st, these guys were supposed to provide everyone with pre-paid meters first!

They swapped the old meters for new pre-paid in some areas but left the majority alone. It's not too difficult to see why....crazy bills and disconnection fees are still very much in play and are too juicy to just ignore.

Got my prepaid free (still paid for its installation though).

Many who have paid for the meters are yet to even get them...now an increase in price for what isn't available is just fraud...simple.

System collapse but by the time they would send electricity bills, one would wonder if he has a factory somewhere in his bedroom!

Since 1999 of Democracy till date, with numerous Ministers, expatriates and plenty billions of dollars spent, there has been nothing to be happy about.

Family / Re: My Friend's Wife Keeps Disturbing Me For Money by nickyosas(m): 9:54am On Dec 28, 2019
Honestly, there are many sides to this...

If you genuinely understand the financial situation of your friend and you have the means, support them via his wife is a noble thing as your friend may be shy to always run to you for assistance.

However tho, if the wife is making advances towards you, or you are beginning to think of her in another way, especially if they are yet to have a child, then I'd say you stop it abruptly and inform the husband.

Same electricity OBJ pumped N 16bn into!
Same sector almost everything privatised!
Someone has mentioned the problem...treason, sabotage...

Importing Generating sets is a huge racket, I mean,if electricity is good, how do we want our politicians to "make money" by padding and inflating budget especially as regards power ??

All Nigerian government counts as achievements are Roads and Electricity.

We still can't generate alternate source of power like biogas! In this age with the heaps of refuse!

The problem go had to solve

Family / Re: How Often Should A Wife Call Her Mother? by nickyosas(m): 9:01am On Sep 29, 2017
Many of us have a very very close relationship with our parents, especially mothers and female's,. The bond is stronger if the female is the only child.

I expect your wife to be matured about it and talk to her mum...but again, if the bond is like I said above, she would find it hard to talk to her mum based on respect.

The whole job lies with you sir.

After a round of talk with her mum, insert yourself in their conversation by greeting her and making her realise it sort of late.... Then after the call, talk to your wife and make her understand the odd hours of call is unsettling you.

It's all about presentation and understanding.
You can use your own mum as a basis for the discussion in terms of how frequent you and her talk.

It's a touchy issue.... One that is bound to whip up sentiments.... Your presentation really matters.

Career / Re: MSc In UK Versus N183k Job Offer: Advice Please by nickyosas(m): 11:46am On Sep 08, 2017
DanXplore:
Please, i could use some career advice from great nairalanders. Please tag monikers that you think would be of great help, as i am at a crucial point in my career.

I am a graduate of chemcal engineering but for 2years now, have not gotten any engineering related job. The only job i got was at KPMG (audit), which i resigned after 3 months due to some personal reasons. I am currently an Area Sales Rep with a poultry feed production company that pays 183k per month (net take home after tax and other necessary deductions), though i could use up to 20 to 25k to fuel my car monthly.
Now, i just got a PTDF scholarship offer to study Advanced process integration and design in UK but not really sure if it is worth ditching my current job for it.

I am not very confident about securing a job once i finish msc because only a handful of opportunities come for chemical engineers. more also,UK rarely retains Nigerians.

Please what are your advices, especially from those who have done Msc in Uk.

I need your advices, i dont want to make a costly mistake.

Well, if it's professionalism you are after, your concern sas chemical engineer working as a sales rep might be founded.

Now, 183k a month in this country is more than adequate. There is the career path you are following which based on experience and accomplishments can land you bigger opportunities down the line.

So, why not take up a part time Msc degree here In The country on the long run?

Certification is needed but again, your monthly income is a good reason to rethink this.
