Oga Badaru, hope you were able to fix back your dish after that heavy downpour? For now I have made up my mind to seek divine intervention on this Nilesat signal drop wahala. Pretty soon I would be moving on to another stable satellite. You know what I mean sir. pls put me in mind.

because of pito, it is no longer necessary. Who say this forum is only restricted to FTA grin

@Dejsam,
I resumed work on my dish this morning after observing a one day break yesterday.
As discussed, I used that mtv arabia tp (11977v) to track and I got up to 57% initially.
I began to finetune and tweak but no way. I was only able to momentarily strike 62%
but that was it. No more, no less. I got BBC up to 52% as at 1.30pm to 2pm and show
cinema. In the process of adjusting the dish settings, eveything went haywire and I
had to start from scratch. That was when the skies suddenly opened up and it began
to rain, forcing me to suspend work till tomorrow. So, job in progress.

@All,
While I was working on my nilesat installation, I took time to try other birds and I got
some tps on hotbird up to 56% signal quality but that tp olofofo posted didn't turn green
for me. Maybe some other person can be more lucky in a diferrent location. I also
got badr 4-6 (MBC and others). And, surprise! surprise! I got TV malawi on NSS7 very high
up to 80% signal quality.
These other birds are there for the asking, begging to be tracked while all the time we
are killing ourselves over nilesat. Now that we all seem to be having issues with nileasat
signals (except for our friends in the north), maybe it's high time to start migrating and trying
something else.
I for one may just be tempted to move over to either hotbird or badr.

@ all

I am a novice in all the stuff that are being discussed on this forum. I just bought myself a SRT 4663x (strong decoder) and my dish is facing the direction that has DSTV, MY TV and HiTV. Kindly guide me through all the FTA's i can have for this position and also if possible how to get others from different positions.

Pls note that i am a novice so you might have to go easy on me with the terminologies, processes and steps. Please help for i can only watch so many Christian Channels, and e tv from South Africa.

Please help for my TV is soo boring. My email address is xdodos@hotmail.com

Thanks a lot

@dodos,
You're welcome to the forum. I tell you that you have come to the right place as far as FTA is
concerned. Most of us started like you with MYTV, some with DSTV, others with HITV, but as time
went on we all learned the trick of these money suckers and now we're putting them to where
they rightly belong.
All you need is a little consistency and a bit of hard hard work. FTA is a hobby and like all hobbies,
it demands that you spend sometime out of your free time, learning the ropes. Don't be like some
others who just breeze in, get some rag tag info on how to blind scan and install one or two dishes
and they feel they're satisfied and run away. They only come back when they fall into problems and
they begin to post and beg for solutions. Take time to read past posts on the thread. We are now
in season 3. This thread started in season 1. Some of us like myself were not around then but when
we stumbled across the thread, we took time over a period of weeks/months to digest all that had
transpired such that when we made our first post, it was like we've always been members from
the beginning. Give yourself that challenge. It will not be easy, but you can do it. You will not only
learn a lot, but you will save yourself that embarrasment of asking for something that has already
been discussed-as is usually the case with newcomers.
Once again, you're welcome.

Can you post the freq you used to get hotbird please.

@ dodos
While still on any channel on MYTV Press menu on your remote, scroll down to blind scan and press it, wait until it perform all its task, when done, check all your channels, all new channels must have been added. If in difficulty, call me on 08055268863. Good luck pal

@toxnaija, eduzo, et al,
The advantages of the diseqc 1.2 positioner over the regular stand alone are just too
numerous to mention:

1. You can move your dish directly from your decoder without having to do so through the positioner.

2. As long as your satellites are properly stored in their rightful positions, all you need to do is select
your station using your decoder remote and the dish will move to the assigned position for that bird.
E.g, lets say you're on pas 7,10 watching etv and you want to change to ait to watch 8pm news. Just
go to ait and select it on your decoder and the dish will move to ait position (intelsat 901c). You don't
need to remember whether intelsat 901c is on position 9 or 10 or 20. No need to fumble with the
positioner remote.
No need to carry a paper around listing the various positions for the different satellites on your dish grin

3. In a case whereby your dish gets shifted by wind due to heavy rain (as is most often the case),
all you need to do is to finetune one of the positions and then synchronise for all the other positions
to fall into place. In the stand alone type, you will need to retrack and finetune each position one by
one even if you have thirty positions saved. What a tedious job! I do it all the time, so I know what
I'm talking about.

4. For those who have not yet installed motorised, you're in for a good time! Just get a diseqc 1.2
positioner and most of your installation troubles will be over. After setting up your dish-as usual,
just track three birds. One in the east, one in the west, and one directly above (like sirius 4). Do it
through your reciever connected to your positioner and save your settings. Pack up and go inside
your house. The diseqc 1.2 positioner will find the positions (elevation, azimuth) of the remaining
birds (both east and west) for you without stress.

5. You can store up to 99 satellites on your eurostar diseqc 1.2 positioner while with the regular
eurostar stand alone, you can only store maximum of 32.

6. You can set electronic limits through your decoder beyond which your jack cannot travel thereby
protecting your dish from falls. You cannot do this with the regular stand alone. Ah, if only I had
this diseqc 1.2 wonder positioner that time I was having challenges with my COMSTAR always falling
on the west side after CNN position? All those brainstorming and anxiety would have been avoided
by simply programming the west limits on the reciever. What a relief! smiley

Need I go on? So, can you see now that using that common stand alone eurostar or superjack
positioner is like driving a 1974 beetle car in these days of lexus and hummer jeep? grin
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 6:57pm On May 27, 2009
Oga Twintaiye,
For hotbird, I used 11727v and got up to 56%. Also I tried 10723h and got up yo 50% here.
I didn't waste too much time trying to finetune since that was not what I was originally after.

@ll
pls i want the house to assit me on 1.8m motorised dish,after a month i have been trying to install it,i finally come out with a single mytv position and i am not able to get other position,but i don't know the problem because i am not install any one before.i try to move the jack with remote control of position from east to west i could't get other position apart from mytv position.secondly i want to store this position too, but i am not get it.

my result as follows:
the ETV is about 85%, and other xhristain channel is 76%
the following attached picture is my installation.

@nuresine,
First of all, you need to go back to the basics. Check that your dish is properly assembled. Sometimes,
if those panels are not well lapped together, they won't give the optimum reflecting surface they're
designed to give. Secondly, do you know the focal length of your dish? I can see from your pictures that
your C-band LNB seems to shoot out more than the ku lnb. Make sure the lnbs are properly secured at
the correct focal length. Also, your jack seems to be at a very odd angle for pas 7/10 which is mytv position. Lastly, is your supermax dish a polar mount or ground mount that has been modified at the neck? If it is a genuine polar mount, then your problems have been reduced by half. You need to check your declination
angle and set it properly for your birds to fall into place. For a motorized set up, you need to first of all track
a satellite on the east (which you have just done). Adjust it untill you have the maximum signal from that
bird. ETV at 85% quality is not too bad but you can get it higher since it is a 1.8m.

After you get it to it's peak signal, mark the point on your pole with a chalk and turn the dish westwards.
Try to track a satellite in the west, preferably NSS7 (22w) use tp 10984v and peak the signals.
Mark the point also on your pole with a chalk. Go back to pas 7/10 and confirm that etv is still showing at
its peak. Then raise your dish up and track sirius 4. Use tp 12565v. Now this is where your declination
angle come in useful. Adjust until you get peak signals. Choose the mid point between the two chalk
marks and tighten up your dish neck at this point. You can now fix your jack and use your positioner to track
and bring in other birds.
Hope this helps?

@dodos,
Like I told you before , most of what you need like tutorials, FAQs, are already contained in season
1 & 2. You just have to exercise some patience while you go through them. Again, most of us spent
months just reading and digesting back issues and when we made our first post, we posted with a

@captainus,
Surprisingly, the diseqc 1.2 positioner is just about N500 (five hundred naira) more expensive than
the regular stand alone type here. Given it's overwhelming advantages, I think it's out of ignorance
that people don't use it-they don't even know that it exists! Thanks to Pitodenz and Dejsam, I too
would have still been among the ignorant majority.

@all,

It was announced today that MGM Studios and Showtime Arabia, the leading Pay-TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, have signed a new five year deal that includes the complete James Bond collection—all 22 films including Quantum of Solace.

Full details follow in the press release below:
Showtime Signs Five-Year Exclusive Deal With MGM To Bring Blockbusters To Middle East Viewers

James Bond’s Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, Rocky Balboa, Lions for Lambs, and Pink Panther-2 Among Movies To Hit Showtime Screens

Thunderball

Showtime Arabia, the leading Pay-TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, today announced it signed a five-year deal with MGM Worldwide Television, a division of Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc., bringing a bouquet of blockbusters to Showtime customers throughout the Middle East.

The agreement marks MGM’s first Video On Demand (VOD) offer in the region and offers MGM’s films exclusively to Showtime customers. With 205 Academy Awards, the world’s largest library of modern films and home to numerous successful film franchises, including James Bond, Pink Panther and Rocky, MGM is a fantastic addition to Showtime customers’ entertainment line-up.

The deal adds MGM to the list of powerhouse studios that are signed up with SHOWTIME including Sony, Disney, Universal, Dreamworks, and many local and international producers.

According to the terms of the five-year agreement, Showtime Arabia will carry MGM titles such as the recent James Bond franchise hits that include Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, the final installment in the Rocky franchise Rocky Balboa, the political thriller Lions for Lambs starring Tom Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, and Pink Panther-2, starring Steve Martin.

Marc-Antoine d’Halluin, President and CEO, Showtime Arabia, said: “MGM’s brand and its diverse selection of popular feature films will enrich our customers’ experience. We’re very proud to add MGM’s popular film franchises to Showtime’s Pay TV and Video On Demand services and look forward to exploring other opportunities with the studio.”

Chris Ottinger, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Television, MGM, said: “As the leading Pay TV provider throughout the region, Showtime Arabia is an ideal partner for MGM. We are pleased to collaborate with Showtime Arabia in bringing MGM’s theatrical blockbusters to the movie fans throughout the Middle East and believe the Video On Demand platform will be a tremendous asset in gaining exposure for MGM’s films and growing our global VOD business model.”

Showtime will kick off the partnership in June, premiering two of the latest Bond films in the 007 franchise. A man that needs no introduction, Daniel Craig hasn’t lost a step since Casino Royale. This James Bond remains dangerous, a man who could earn that license to kill in brutal hand-to-hand combat, but still look sharp in a tailored suit. And Quantum of Solace carries on from the previous film like no other 007 movie, with Bond nursing his anger from the Casino Royale storyline and vowing blood revenge on those responsible.

Later this year, Showtime will hit the ultimate in viewing - the complete collection of James Bond films - 22 in total making the 007 franchise one of the most famous and indeed the longest running in the history of cinema. Showtime customers can also look forward to many future titles currently in production including Cabin in the Woods starring Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins and Hot Tub Machine starring John Cusack.
