80% of those that claim they are graduates and are too  big for this do not even have good grades. they probably have passes and 2/2's so what is it. There was a guy in the U.S who graduated for Harvard law school. Worked as a lawyer for a couple of months and decided it wasn't for him. He dropped law and started doing reality Tv. The graduates are not claiming they are too big for anything, but that it is imprudent to use state funds for diverting the energy of your graduates into driving taxicabs. There are numerous other career options besides driving taxicabs. You mentioned that in U.S. a lot of doctors and lawyers willingly pursue other paths such as TV shows, film, wrestling--professions that somewhat comport with a standard of decency, and one which a graduate can still use his ability for the betterment of society, but the governor of any state in the U.S. does not appropriate govt. funds to buy taxicabs for graduates--big difference. You also mentioned good grades. Well, not having good grades does not amount to not having the ability to be a successful entrepreneur or having a hands-on ability in other graduate-friendly areas. Contrariwise, if Akala had tried to use state funds to encourage graduates to develop the local film industry, music industry, fisheries, contemporary furniture/carpentry business, or even large scale mechanized farming, Akala would not have been criticized.  Ideally, if it has to amount to "graduate-taxicabing," you might as well shut down universities. Comparing Akala to some other folks in Oyo state, Akala is a bonafide illiterate and local as they come.

The fact that after extensive arguments on this thread where people have pointed out it is not just about creating jobs but there are 101 other things that are far better and more appropraite for graduates that a governor with a vision can do, but:

1) he still does not get it
2) he can not provide counter or invalidate opposing arguments
3) he still vomited the same arguments that have been floored

An intelligent person, which trekkie is not, would have come with a different angle or would have rubbished the opposing arguments.

He still came here to vomit opinions that is as visionless as Akala's Akara visions, where it is OK that the governments aspirations for those that have spent years in University is not to utilise anything they have been taught there.

Mediocrity is what is killing us in this country. Why can't our graduates turn into successful genetic engineers, astronauts, biomedical technology experts, mathematicians, etc. Why can't Alaye Akala build a math-lab similar to the ones we have in Trieste, Edinburgh and Stuttgart?. Why must we dwell in Okada, taxi, carpentry, masonry etc

It's a pity a big country like Nigeria is allowing their scientists lay waste in motor parks as cab drivers.

No 1, if our graduates are going to drive cab in London, it is not something to encourage. It is a sad event which WE, I repeat, WE should be trying to reverse not build a foundation on.

The reason they are driving cab is because (1) third world qualifications are less respected, (2) their is severe competition for jobs and (3) there are restrictions to ensure the locals are priority for the few jobs.

Furthermore,  there are strong employment laws and rules that ensure that even those doing menial jobs have some level of job security, dignity and sufficient income which would not be the same scenario in a Nigerian environment. This said, most graduates would still rather not do this jobs, the UK local grads don't but the foreign grads do because they have to survive.

When there are challenges in job acquisition for graduates in the UK, the government do not come up with schemes like Taxi driver, Plumber, carpenter etc because they have the brain and vision to recognise how important this sub-class are to the future of their progressive society. They set up schemes like internships where the government pays the salary but the firm teaches professional skills or they set up centres to help people develop themselves or to advise on setting up their own business.

There is a different between a government with THOUGHT LEADERSHIP and one with AKARA VISIONS.

We can develop the breakthrough technologies committed to agriculture, as well as new innovative products to bring to market. But I won't listen to sarcastic remarks directed at naysayers like tpia who wants us to be cab drivers for life.
