Christistruth00:
The History of the Owu Yorubas is intertwined with Cotton production from which they got their name even before Oduduwa ruled Ife

It was because Oduduwas daughter married into the Owu Royal Family and her son with his descendants became the Olowu that they are Considered the oldest Yoruba Clan
Wow! This is interesting.

Thank you very much. I'd like to read more on this. Any books or links to read?

Thanks so much

Cotton is not a Surprise the Owu Yorubas were already Growing cotton in the 10th Century and according to Oral History their Forefather Obatala who Oduduwa fought at Ile Ife was both a Cotton grower and a Cotton Merchant that was why his descendants through Iyunade Oduduwa's daughter were called Owu people

Owu means Cotton in Yoruba
Oduduwa later gave Obatala his daughter as part of a peace agreement at Ile Ife and her Son and his descendants became the Kings of the Owu Yorubas
Hello,

I'm going to send you a DM. I need more information about cotton and textile in Yorùbáland.

Thank you.

i googled uses of wheat. and all i can find is wheat is primarily used for making flour

so the question is - what would they have been cultivating wheat for, and why has that food not survived to this day?

all our staple meals from crops we cultivated in the past are still around.

so if we cultivated wheat, whatever we cultivated it for should still be with us to this day
They might have used it for something entirely different from solid food like bread. Maybe they used it for making drinks, alcohol.

After looting the country, they want to win over some clueless people by means of religious blackmail.

I wish the Nigeria judiciary will at least this once disoense justice and send this man and his daughter to 30 years in prison. When they come out in 30 years, they can appoint them prophet and prophetess in their religious sect.

PoliticsRe: Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown Praises Lagos Under Tinubu At Obi’s Event by Nigeriakan: 7:29am On May 06, 2024
Rantingpiglets:
Brown said, “I went to Nigeria in 2007. I went to Lagos and I fell in love with the country. Two years ago, I went back and once again, I toured the country. Anytime you visit Nigeria, you’re saying to yourself, ‘When can I go back?”

He stated that he was “blown away” by the nation’s movie industry, Nollywood.

“There’s a lot of love for Nigeria in my city,” he said.
This is not to praise or de-praise Tinubu. But 'I went to Lagos and fell in love with the country (Nigeria)' means I went to Lagos and fell in love with Nigeria by reason of what I saw in Lagos.

If you want to criticize the Agbadorians, you can only do that from the angle of he didn't praise Tinubu. But definitely, the Mayor praised Lagos. However, what he saw in Lagos was left unsaid, could be the buzzling life of the city, could be entertainment, could be the culture, could even be the okpekes he saw.

And that music is better than our constitution?
Better than the constitution, YES, WAY BETTER. But it does not supercede the constitution. That's why anyone who sprays money, whether it's a Bobrisky or an Nkechi, should be arrested and prosecuted.

I just gave you the earlier submission to clear your doubt coz you felt there's no such cultural practice among the Yorùbá.

Because it is culture doesn't mean it can't be wrong sad

We once had a culture where Twins were killed
...until Mary Slessor came onboard.
And who were the 'we' that once had a culture of killing twins? You've been fed lies. Twins were sacred children in Yorùbá cultural practices. Twins' parents even had to make occasional feasts for the twins as the twins continued to grow. The feast is what is known as 'ẹ̀wà ìbejì' (twins bean feast). If they had been killed at birth, as you believed, would there be any need to make a feast for them later on?
PoliticsRe: Bobrisky: Yorubas Have A Culture Of Spraying Naira - Reno Omokri by Nigeriakan: 11:58am On Apr 08, 2024
Zonefree:
In your Yoruba culture, what is spraying money called? undecided
There's a Yorùbá phrase for money spraying, and it's 'owó níná'. Go listen to classic Yorùbá musicians such as Ayinla Omowura, Barrister, KSA, and Chief Obey, you'd hear lyrics about how so-and-so 'ná mi lówó' (sprayed me money) while singing the praise of the so-and-so.

This money spraying culture must have been borrowed from the Yorùbá practice of touching an Òrìṣà (deity) with money on the forehead during consultation.

It's perfectly in order. The indigenes gas to raise revenue for the communities.
The CORNmaster increased the price of petrol, LNG, electricity to raise revenue for his pocket so what these people are doing is in order to balance the equation.

The only people feeling the heat are the CORNtree people who stood on the mandate, they are gnashing their teeths in pain, screaming g Ebi n pawa every now and then.
Stupeed CORNtree people.
This was the same thing that sent oil companies away. Let them continue. When nobody uses the port again, they'll come to their senses.

What's wrong with this?

We used to go help our teachers with farm work and house chores when we were in secondary school. I used to help a lecturer of mine fetch water back in my undergraduate days.

I carried out a study on one traditional occupation of the Yorùbá and I had to enroll as an apprentice under the Ọ̀gá (Master). I needed to help her with some things that were not related to what I went there to learn. It's part of the learning.

They know what they stand to lose cause there is massive adoption of crypto in Nigeria but saying other African countries will follow suit in banning binance is ridiculous. Why would anyone want to follow a failed country.
You just stay back and watch. Is it not US's footstep that Nigeria just followed by suing Binance? Other African countries who see Binance as a threat to their economies may follow suit. It's not even rocket science.

Bianance doesn't give a fucck about Nigeria, they already have lawsuits going on, a shit hole country slamming them with fine won't do shit.
But it cared enough to send its representatives to Nigeria. Dey there dey whine.

Binance knows what it stands to lose if it loses Africa's biggest market. If Binance is banned in Nigeria, many other African countries will follow suit in a matter of months.

FYI, Nigeria will work. And anyone who isn't happy about it won't witness it
