The Cross River State 53 street children are currently undergoing a course to aid their re-integration into their homes and foster homes through camp activities in order to prepare them for unification with their blood relatives or foster careers.

The exercise which began last week is expected to last for 21 days and is an initiative of several nongovernmental organisations including the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Society For Youth Development and Rescue Initiative (SYDRI), and the Cross River State government.

At the flag off of the course, the commissioner of sustainable development and social welfare, Mr. Oliver Orok who was represented by the Director of Social Welfare in the ministry, Mrs. Uduak Elizabeth, commended the organizers of the camp and partners for their continuous fight in assisting kids out of the streets.

“Your being here today is to see the surface of seeing the success of claiming our children from the dark world is not a mistake. Together with you all we are expected to help these children, by helping and teaching them the right way of living. Presently, this camping is to acquaint the children with the necessary skills to enable them meet up with the basic needs of the society. All children need to be in a family and this is the purpose of this program. They are the future leaders of tomorrow.

The dates for the 2019 African Nations Cup finals in Egypt have been moved back by a week, the Confederation of African Football said on Monday.

The shift was reportedly to allow players to rest after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is likely to begin on the evening of May 5 and end around June 4. Muslims observe fast during daylight hours over this period, which can have an effect on the performance of athletes.

The expanded 24-team tournament will now kick-off on June 21 and run through to the final on July 19.

A meeting of the CAF Emergency Committee took the decision on Saturday, with the governing body confirming the shift in a circular sent to its member associations.

According to media reports, a request was made for the move by a number of mainly Muslim North African nations, including Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, who have already sealed the qualification hurdles.

Three secondary school girls have been found dead with their private parts removed in Ikom local government area of Cross River State.

According to the report gather two of the girls were abducted by suspected Ritualists on Friday while returning from school at Ikom main town and were later dumped along the road side at Edor Community, while the other one was dumped at Konfab Community, all in Ikom LGA.

A woman, Mrs. Akunjom repoted on Monday that they woke up on Saturday to see the abomination which later caused uproar in the community.

As the 2019 general approaches, the Nigerian Air Force has vowed to remain apolitical, promising no allegiance to any political party. The new Air Officer commanding Mobility Command, AVM Peter Uzezi, made declaration at the weekend during their handing over ceremony in Yenagoa.

AVM Uzezi took over from AVM Barli as the new AOC Mobility Command, Yenagoa. He explained that one of the directives of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiqu Abubarkar, was to ensure that NAF personnel remain apolical during the forthcoming elections including those of the Mobility Command. A group, Re-elect Buhari Movement (RBM) has hailed the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that it is only someone like him that can steer the country’s ship to the Eldorado that we all long for in these times.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, convener of the RBM, Mr. Emmanuel Umohingyang, a lawyer, said his group, after considering what Nigeria had gone through from 1999 to 2015, decided to support President Buhari “because we know that he meant well for Nigeria”.

Umohingyang urged Nigerians to give Buhari another chance for him to conclude the assignment he started over three years ago. These assignments, he said, include the fixing of infrastructure in the country “at a rate never witnessed before”.
An example of infrastructure fixed by Buhari, he said, is the Second Niger Bridge.

“I hope you are aware of massive road construction going on all over the country? Long abandoned projects are being reviewed. Are you aware that Ajaokuta Steel Company is coming back to life after 40 years? And this government has done extremely well in the agriculture sector, making local rice the preferred food for many. This government is steadily moving away from having oil as our only source of revenue… So much has been done and so much is being done. That is why we believe that the next four years will fully concretise these achievements,” he said.

President General of the apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has described as regrettable a telephone call made to him by Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, where he allegedly said he did not know Nwodo was ‘idiotic’ apparently in reaction to Ohanaeze’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. However, despite pockets of mixed reactions trailing Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s endorsement of Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation yesterday said that it has no regrets in the decision it has taken.

It will be recalled that some persons, particularly the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige had kicked against the endorsement of Atiku/ Obi ticket during the meeting of Imeobi, the highest decision making body of Ohanaeze last Thursday.

Subscribers of MTN mobile phone and data services in Lokoja and its environs are presently experiencing difficulty in accessing the services of the provider.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent gathered yesterday in Lokoja that the development followed the decision of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) to shut the telecom service provider’s base stations in Lokoja, Obajana and other adjoining communities. There had been a lingering dispute between the revenue board and MTN over the latter’s non-remittance of taxes to the state government when due. The KGIRS had, similarly in October last year, shut seven stations of MTN, which also resulted in disruption of services to subscribers.

The Director, Legal Services and Enforcement of KGIRS, Mr. Jamil Isah, who led other staff to seal the base stations of MTN, said that the action commenced on Wednesday afternoon. According to Isah, the action is due to the refusal of the telecom service provider to remit outstanding tax liability of N120 million to the state government.

He chided the MTN for remitting a paltry N250,000 out of the amount, describing the action as an abuse of the restraining order the state government earlier placed on KGIRS to allow for peaceful resolution of the dispute. He said: “The state governor heeded the intervention of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) when its officials came, and ordered the opening of the sealed MTN base stations to allow for negotiations.

A married woman and her lover got stuck in each other while having sex, after her husband, who has been suspecting her of infidelity, sought the services of a native doctor.

According to online reports, the incident occurred at a community in Kenya.

The video was shared by a Facebook user, Karani Tonny, who wrote: ‘Ladies n gentlemen lets change our attitude yenye imefanyika mbale it’s only God knows n awasame.’

In the viral video, the woman was crying out in pain while the native doctor could be seen carrying out some rituals to separate the pair who were entangled in bed.
