Also, Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been accused of seeking to drag Dangote’s name in the mud, and coercing him onto the presidential campaign committee.
The APC on Friday made public the names of members of its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 elections through a press statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina.
On the Special Advisory Committee To the President, which the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo chairs, Dangote was initially listed as a member, alongside Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan; Leader of the House Femi Gbajabiamila; APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and Mr. Femi Otedola.
But in a remarkable volte-face, the presidency, in a scantily worded two-paragraph statement endorsed by Adeshina titled “Dangote Not Member of APC Campaign Council,” said, “It has become imperative to further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head advisory members in (sic) the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018. News By NIGERIAPEN.COM.NGhttps://i0.wp.com/nigeriapen.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Pope-assails-greed-as-millions-celebrate-Christmas.jpg?resize=768%2C385“An insatiable greed marks all human history, even today, when, paradoxically, a few dine luxuriantly while all too many go without the daily bread needed to survive,” the 82-year-old pope said.
Pope Francis will deliver his sixth “Urbi et Orbi” address on Tuesday, Christmas Day — when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ — to pilgrims gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.
Visitors from across the world gathered in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve ahead of midnight mass, queueing to see the grotto where Jesus is believed to have been born and taking in a festive parade.
In the “little town” in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian scouts and a bagpipe band paraded in Manger Square across from the Church of the Nativity, built where Christians say Mary gave birth to Jesus.
Crowds, some wearing Santa hats or holding balloons, looked on at the square decked out with a giant Christmas tree and a manger as carols in Arabic played through speakers.
“It’s a great opportunity to be in such a symbolic location for Christmas,” said Lea Gudel, a 21-year-old French student studying in Jerusalem, who was in Manger Square on Monday morning.
Beyond Bethlehem, Christians worldwide were marking Christmas, with services held from Indonesia to Iraq.
This year’s celebrations come after a year of tumult, much of which has come from Washington, where the festive spirit was dampened when the national Christmas tree went dark on the third day of a US government shutdown.
One festive service not affected was the military’s annual Santa Claus tracker, which sees North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) deliver live updates on his international gift delivery route.
Fielding calls from children anxious to know if their presents would arrive on time, American President Donald Trump risked a spell on Santa’s naughty list by telling one young boy that believing in the jolly man in in red at aged seven was “marginal”.
But his scepticism is unlikely to have dampened the enthusiasm of many excited youngsters.
“Historical data and more than 60 years of NORAD tracking information lead us to believe Santa Claus is alive and well in the hearts of people throughout the world,” the Pentagon’s handbook read.
– Celebrations despite conflicts – Bethlehem, located near Jerusalem but cut off from the city by Israel’s separation barrier, has seen an increase in visitors this season after several down years due to unrest linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Palestinian tourism officials and hotel operators have reported their strongest season in years.
“This year is much more calm, much better than last year,” said Abeer Nasser, a Palestinian from the nearby town of Beit Sahour celebrating in Bethlehem with her son and daughter.
“Every year I feel more in the mood to celebrate despite the political situation,” the 37-year-old added, referring to the Israeli occupation.
This year, visitors were also able to view the Church of the Nativity’s newly restored mosaics dating to the Crusader era after they were recently cleaned and repaired in a major project. Read More/See More photos Below........

Mr Saraki was reacting to the first part of a PREMIUM TIMES’ report titled; “SPECIAL REPORT: Kwara residents groan as projects nominated by Saraki abandoned, poorly implemented.”
The report, published on December 1, captured how residents of Kwara Central still suffer as multi-million naira projects initiated by Mr Saraki either lie abandoned, poorly implemented or less than half done.
The second part of the report was published on December 22.
In a statement by Olayinka Ibrahim, the Director of Projects, ABS Constituency Office, the lawmaker absolved himself of any wrongdoing, claiming the report was misleading.
Not less than three of Mr Saraki’s media aides were contacted by PREMIUM TIMES in the course of the report. Meanwhile, only Mr Ibrahim, the fourth contacted, offered explanations on why the projects are in their current state.
Mr Ibrahim also condemned the poor execution of the projects especially the road project at Ero Omo Kilanko rural road and the Sheik Agbarigidoma Road.
In the Sunday statement, Mr Saraki blamed the contractor and the Ministry of Agriculture for poor implementation of the N50 million Ero Omo Kilanko Road. https://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2018/12/Ero-Omo-Kilanko-Road-constructed-in-March-1.jpg See more abandon projects below........

Politics › EFCC Start Investigation As Union Bank Claims Ownership Of $2.8m Seized At Enugu by Nigeriapen(op): 1:52am On Dec 24, 2018 |
News By Nigeriapen.com.nghttps://i2.wp.com/nigeriapen.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/EFCC-begins-investigation-as-Union-bank-claims-ownership-of-2.8m-seized-at-Enugu-airport.png?resize=343%2C343&ssl=1The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has reacted to claims made by Union bank that the $2.8 million its operatives seized from two men at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu last Friday December 21st, was legitimate and was for a legitimate operation.
Recall that on Friday, EFCC released a statement saying it had seized the money from the men and that a case of money laundering was being suspected.
Union bank in a statement claimed ownership of the funds, adding that moving money in such a manner was not illegal and was a routine.
Also the Bankers Warehouse, a cash-in-transit contractor whose officials were moving the funds on behalf of Union bank, has written a letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN saying that it did nothing illegal and asked the apex bank to compel the EFCC to release the money.
“We want to convey to you that once again, we are facing a challenge with one of the security agencies (this time the EFCC) which detained our couriers while trying to board an Arik Air flight from Enugu to Lagos, conveying currency on behalf of Union Bank. They were transporting US dollars.
When questioned, they presented their identity cards, identifying themselves as Bankers Warehouse employees on official CIT movement and also presented the letter of authority issued by the bank covering the movement.
“Despite this information, the EFCC insisted on detaining our employees, taking possession of our goods and threatening to confiscate the currency without making themselves available to our senior managers or other agencies familiar with our movement.”
Reacting to the position of Union Bank and Bankers Warehouse, the acting Spokesman for the EFCC, said the commission invited officials of the bank to give explanation about the money but they refused to show up. He said investigations were still on and the outcome of the probe would determine the agency’s next line of action. Read More Below...

Politics › Imo APC Exco To Oshiomhole: You Can’t Dissolve Us by Nigeriapen(op): 8:00am On Dec 22, 2018 |
News By Nigeriapen.com.nghttps://i1.wp.com/nigeriapen.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Oshiomhole.jpg?resize=747%2C385&ssl=1The Imo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Daniel Nwafor, has dismissed the decision of the National Working Committee of the party led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, which declared that the state’s APC executives had been dissolved, as reckless, unlawful and beyond the powers of Oshiomhole.
The state’s exco also hinted that plans were in the pipeline to commence contempt proceedings against the party’s National Chairman. Briefing journalists at the party office in Owerri, Nwafor said the purported dissolution was a unilateral decision of Oshiomhole who he said was pretending to go through the processes, while he had long acceded to the request of Senator Hope Uzodinma to dissolve the party executive in the state. Nwafor, who insisted that his executives was still intact and going nowhere, expressed regret that Oshiomhole had been in alliance with Uzodinma long before the primaries of the party in the state.
He urged security agencies to take a closer look at the black market transactions between Oshiomhole and Uzodinma which was designed to undermine the credibility of the party in the state. He said: “We take Oshiomhole’s announcement with a pinch of salt. We shall lose no sleep over the purported dissolution because we are familiar with Oshiomhole’s culture of impunity and executive rascality. Oshiomhole is impervious to the rule of law and is predictably reckless. Read More Below.........

Politics › Yakubu Warns INEC Staff Against Complicity With Politicians by Nigeriapen(op): 7:46am On Dec 22, 2018 |
News By Nigeriapen.com.nghttps://i0.wp.com/nigeriapen.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Yakubu-warns-INEC-staff-against-complicity-with-politicians.jpg?resize=795%2C385&ssl=1The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned its staff against complicity with politicians or their agents to subvert the electoral process ahead of next year’s general elections. Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who gave the warning at the swearing-in of the new Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, yesterday, in Abuja, said all officials of the commission must remain neutral in the discharge of their duties. He stressed: “As we approach next year’s general elections, the commission will pay attention to the conduct of our officials from the headquarters to the states and local government areas.
“We will not tolerate the complicity of staff with political actors or their agents to subvert the electoral process. All officials of the Commission must remain neutral in the discharge of their duties and committed to protecting the sanctity of the process.”Yakubu added that the Commission had been inundated by applications from several groups within the country requesting to be accredited as observers for the elections, including support groups of candidates contesting in the elections, a development he said was “unacceptable,” as observers are neutral groups interested only in the process and not agents of political parties, candidates or campaign organisations.
He stated: “The purpose of accrediting observers for elections is a noble one intended to increase the transparency and openness of the process. The reports of observers also serve as a useful feedback mechanism for strengthening our processes and procedures.
“It is, therefore, counter-productive for such an important process to become an all-comers business.“Going forward, the Commission has revised the guidelines for the accreditation of observers. Interested organisations are required to apply to the Commission. Details will be published this weekend and early next week in national newspapers and on the Commission’s website.
