afrodoc2: Even if you have Plans A to Z with optional defenders like Klavan and Matip if you come against a good attack hat is on form you will crumble. And let us not forget that Mane was the guy that tore up all the plans. They were 1-0 down before Manes red card. And Klopp didn't have to play Klavan. Didn't have to take Salah off at half time to try and park the bus. No plan B for me. |

Greatihex: Food for nihilist.

Below you can see the expected goals leaderboard from the 2016/2017 season, where both Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku had particularly good goal-scoring seasons. Their respective xG totals of 13.86 and 14.53 show that they were particularly lethal in front of goal and were often taking chances with a low likelihood of scoring. Lukaku was super accurate last season. I think his conversion rate was something like 50%. I need to go and check. He has already started again. Top 4 for shots on target this season so far. Mad striker. |

Greatihex: What an interesting article.
http://www.optasportspro.com/about/optapro-blog/posts/2017/blog-expected-assists-in-context/mbuBlogsyPost
This is one reason why counting ‘assists’ in isolation is not an entirely representative way to assess creativity. The creator is often reliant on the finishing skill of the player receiving the pass. We also know that not all key passes create the same quality of scoring opportunity, and this should be reflected in how we value them.
Cc. Ibime, raumdeuter, nihilist, nateevs, airmark, bigkesh, bimffo, diggz, Skimpledawg, Chelseafan1, Griffon etc. Read the article earlier in the week and completely agree with the bolded. This is another reasons why I refuse to countenance the people that were crediting Bag of Beans with 6 assists last year, with 3 coming from corner flickons and I think another two were sideways passes to Pedro and Kante to blast from outside the box. |

MaziOmenuko: Thats why Victor Moses was among the options I listed. He's an attacking RWB. Not at Chelsea. Maybe at Super Eagles |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Nairaland Fantasy Premier League 2017/2018 by Nihilist: 3:12pm On Sep 08, 2017 |
MaziOmenuko: Oh, that defense is not my worry. It is even too expensive, I am downgrading them and upgrading my frontline.
Which would you prefer between Victor Moses and Bailly (No De Gea on post)? Neither. I'd rather pay the premium to get an attacking fullback from a big team... It downgrade to get an attacking fullback from a smaller team. Relying on cleansheet as the main source of defensive points no follow for me. |

cstr1000: Like christensen? Forget that thing. We have not had a supreme talent like Mbappe in decades. If we had, he would break into the first team with ease. The only difference would be instead of monaco, he would be having his breakout season in a champions league team in Germany or Holland. Lol Mbappe has only had 1 good season. |

raumdeuter: I support this move. All transfers should be closed before season starts. You have from June to August 1st week to do transfers not the one clubs will be rushing on August 31st like they just heard it
Also for parity in the level of opposition played. E.g Like Say Chelsea played Brighton in the first weeks and beat them, before transfer window deadline day, Sheikh Diggz from House of Dangote, first of his name buys Brighton and they strengthen significantly, That means other teams in the league are not playing the same Brighton that Chelsea beat.
You can argue that injuries can decimate a team and make them unrecognizable but at least we would be dealing with injuries not just a factor that can be controlled
A recent example of such was when Man Utd beat Arsenal 8-2 on August 28 like 3 days to the end of window, in the following 3 days Arsenal brought in like 5 players which made them stronger and those who played Arsenal post window close faced a much stronger side Completely Agree. Too bad, it does not matter who buys which club in Bundesliga - Bayern will still steal all the good players |

hoopLA: I think the clubs are just refusing to sell. The players are obviously unsettled.
This will only drive up the already over-inflated prices in the market where you have to pay above 50 million to get a decent/above average player. Dhellake: That's another angle, valid. But for me, there's no point keeping an unhappy player at the club when he clearly wants out.
The four players listed are presently unsettled and it's left to be seen how well they'll perform this season.
Imagine an unsettled Hazard in this chelsea team, no way it won't affect us over the course of the season. What does 'Unsettled' actually mean? Most footballers are professional, with the exception of the few psycho nutjobs like Costa and William Gallas. It's in no player's interest to refuse to train or refuse to play to the best of his ability as each training session is an opportunity to stay fit, and each match played is an opportunity to advertise your wares. Dem no born the likes of Coutinho and VVD well to pull some funny stunts now the window is closed. Infact, both have reportedly returned to full training with their respective teams We can't underestimate the effect that exile to the reserves or solitary training in combination with financial penalty can have on a player's attitude. Costa is currently without a club, and to further rub ata rodo into the wound, his replacement has been firing for club and country. By January, Atletico might not want him sef, and Chelsea are not obligated to sell. Unless you're Ronaldo or Messi, these days EPL clubs can and will deal with you if you step out of line - ask Yaya Toure. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Nihilist: 3:14pm On Sep 07, 2017 |
Dhellake: Bad move in my opinion. Will make sense if it is closing for both selling and buying, allowing clubs to still afterwards means the likes of Barca and MAdrid can get to unsettle an EPL player while the club can't get to replace/ The money that's in the EPL now makes it a lot harder to unsettle players - ask Costa, Sanchez, VVD and Coutinho. An EPL club can actually say and mean no, without worrying about the repercussion |
