The one big positive for us was the re-appearance of Butland for his country after more than a year away through injury,’
‘But I felt sorry for him after he came on for the second half of that 3-2 defeat (against 10 men!) in Paris on Tuesday evening.
‘I felt sorry for him having to play behind a player like Gary Cahill, one of the worst defenders I’ve seen in one-v-one situations.
‘He gets so easily exposed and it was him, as much as David Luiz, who needed the protection of a three-man defence in that Chelsea rearguard last season.
‘Chelsea boss Antonio Conte deserves a medal – possibly Cahill’s title-winning medal – for spotting so quickly that Luiz AND Cahill needed such protection.’
Don't think because he scored a few goals and a free-kick that we in the back of the class have forgotten about him.
Alonso is not a European quality fullback, and the fact that the club are/were willing to spend up to 60m in that position just highlights how little faith the club has in him.
Alonso must go or chop bench along with his fellow left footed bag of beans Colleague.
Chelsea’s recruitment structure has been streamlined since the days of Frank Arnesen’s scout-heavy approach, with the Dane’s 50-strong team reduced to around a dozen concentrating on specific regions, whether local or national, EU or non-EU.
They are headed by the technical director, Michael Emenalo, who speaks with Antonio Conte on a daily basis, as well as to agents and intermediaries.
The head of international scouting, Scott McLachlan, collates information and data on targets and potential signings, whether on performances or background checks, and is always available and regularly consulted.
Only once a player is identified and agreement reached with the head coach does Emenalo approach the director Marina Granovskaia or owner, Roman Abramovich, to request a transfer, with Granovskaia in effect charged with securing the target.
bykebyke: When you are taking a vacation from the Ronaldo agenda, but he drops a 2/10 vs Mexico.
You know that Paper that Sid Lowe works for? Yes, that Sid Lowe you quoted up there..Yes, I mean the Guardian.
See how they described Lord Ororo's game vs Mexico
A goal scored by Quaresma, but assisted by the aura of Ronaldo. The great man was put free down the left channel, running free on goal in a manner that he would have just sped away and muscled the ball into the net in years past.
This time he sort of gets the ball stuck under his feet, but such is the fear that he still creates in opposition defenders, three of the buggers had sprinted over to cover him, leaving Quaresma absolutely free on the other side of the box. Ronaldo does brilliantly to have the presence of mind to stop, turn and spot his colleague, who shuffles past a defenceless Ochoa and pops the ball into an empty net.]
Don't forget say na Quaresma score o, yet in the description of the goal, the goalscorer is merely an afterthought. At one point, the writer doesn't even bother naming Quaresma as the goalscorer, instead opting to recognise him as a 'Colleague'
"A goal scored by Quaresma, but assisted by the aura of Ronaldo"
Will Man Utd be his next destination? I can't imagine what Man Utd will be like, next season, if they have Ronaldo, Morata, Bale and James Rodriguez...
Mehn let's sign this guy and just leave him in the box.
Funlord2: Lol.......dem go use back door waka when dem see the entourage! Full street team on deck!
Just make sure you stick to open spaces and avoid any canopies, before you get snatched from above by pundit in a batman costume with Harrop stamped in big bright letters on his cape....
jonsnow92: Ronaldo is accused of ceding his image rights to a company in the British Virgin Isles so as to avoid paying tax on them in Spain. The Spanish Prosecutor claims the company set up in the British Virgin Islands was a shell company established to defraud the taxman. According to an El Mundo investigation, this company then ceded image rights on to two companies in Ireland. But for a long time Spanish fiscal law turned a blind eye to image rights companies being set up by players. That changed around 2014 and it was when Ronaldo saw that other players were being investigated that he paid the taxman an extra 6m euros (£5m) to put his affairs in order. The public prosecutor is claiming that sum is not enough. Its accusation is based on an interpretation of what percentage of images rights should be counted as having been earned in Spain and what percent should be counted as having been earned abroad. It is that difference of interpretation that Ronaldo feels should not now have escalated into potential criminal proceedings. *****************
Wonder Why he's reacting to the allegations..Fear?
Aint nobdy scared of nothing. Let's take to trial and see.
afrodoc2: Very good players with excellent styles, technique and high work rate. One plays for Okomu Oil and the other for Obosi Utd and their whoscored rating is 6.9.
Say no more.
But can they work as a partnership though? Maybe one drops to collect balls in deep areas while the other one holds up the balls up top...
lordfalcao: I don't really understand the tolliso banter on this thread over bakayoko. Clearly if am to judge by their playing style and characteristics. Conte have seen the guy who suits his style of play perfectly...
Ogbeni make we strike those two signers for your screenshot na?
Ibime: Lemar and Silva do not hug the touchline. They come inside, forming a double arrowhead at the top of the midfield while Sidibe and Mendy run the flanks. Bakayoko and Fabinho possession game should be even better in this system given the bodies directly infront and the overlaps from Mendy and Sidibe.
They are still the transition guys.
Leicester played exactly this same game and we both know Kante and Drinkwater weren't running any possesion game.
The wingers are the ones that do the transitions in a 442, inverted or not.
olabode89: Bro... a super high guard is not usually used in MMA because of the size of them gloves, guys have been knocked out with roundhouse kicks on high guard.
I am aware of the importance of experience in boxing, but Conor carries a KO threat and he fights very smart, his 13 seconds KO of Jose Aldo is a typical example.
Bruh I dont think you truly understand the sport. And I mean that with the greatest respect.
Did you watch the video I posted?
That was Conor Mc sparring with Chris van Heerden. Conor was struggling to even touch the guy, and was leaving himself so wide open that you could run trailers through the gaps.
The heat is ranked Number 30 in the world and made Connor look like a schoolboy, yet you think Mcgregor has a chance against one of the GOATs?
Ibime: IMO, he and Fabinho as a midfield two did very badly. Any possession they had came through Lemar and Silva, and the team was split into two seperate parts - attackers and defenders - with no midfield bridge to link the two. This style of play can only get you so far in the long run.
The Monaco team was characterised by high octane and high frequency possession turnovers - an endless cycle of tackle and counterattack, tackle and counterattack with no midfield control whatsoever. Linking attack and defence is the responsibility of the base midfielders and they both were woeful in this aspect. This style of play with high frequency turnovers is what led them to be chopping 6,3,4 goals in UCL knockout round.
I'm sorry but how else do you expect to transition in a 442 except via the wings?
With both Mbappe and Falcao pushing up, the only way to link midfield to attack is to circulate ball to a winger and let him carry the ball up.
Shebi that's what Kante was doing at Leicester when they won the league.
I don't think Fabinho and Bakayoko did badly at all.
Infact whoscored rating is almost exactly the same for Bakayoko and Tolisso, and while that doesn't tell the whole story, it at least suggests that Bakayoko was operating at around the same level of efficiency in his jobs as Tolisso was doing on his duties...
Ibime: If Fabregas is the only hope for this guy achieving a tactical fit, then we were better off going for Tolisso or Tiellemans who also drive, but add goals and assists and can play the role of conventional midfielder if 3-5-2 is not working, or if Fabregas is injured or is unable to reprise the Pirlo role comfortably. Even Ramires could achieve a tactical fit in certain setups but in the long run was found wanting in conventional midfield setup. Let not a midfielder hide under tactics. If you can't do a basic job in conventional midfield, I am not interested in how you can fit in because sooner or later you will be relied on to run midfield and if you can't, na serious gbese we go dey.
Bakayoko didn't do too badly in a midfield two this season just gone though
Emaprince: . Will the fight be strictly boxing, with no kicking nd grappling? If so, then money man easily.. but if the other dude is allowed to use whatever he learnt from UFC, may weather name na sorry.
