You just restated evertything I said before the season started in this post below

Morata will never score like Costa or score from nothing like Costa, What he will bring his improved linkup play which will make your other attackers improve, And it looks like his linkup with Hazard is getting more results

I used Madrid as an example they could have kept a selfish finisher like Higuain who will score more but stunt the other attackers but they went with Benzema whose linkup brings out the best in their other attackers

This seasons Hazard is one of the best he has been all his career. One of the reasons is the change in his position and having a striker like Morata on his wavelenght is key.

Now to City, they use 2 strikers, the equivalent of your own 2 strikers would be Morata and Hazard. If Morata is giving numbers similar to Aguero then Hazard should be giving numbers similar to Jesus.

There is also a tactical tradeoff in it, Guardiola banks on outscoring at the expense of his defence, you bank on keeping it tight, so you cannot expect your offensive products to be the same When Guardiola packs 6 attacking players on the field and you put only 2 max 3

A key question, If you bring Aguero, Jesus to Chelsea will they score more

Note. Since September ending in the league, in the multiple chances creating City in over 2 months Aguero has only scored from the penalty spot
There's no tactical trade-off bro.

City have the best attack AND defence in the league so far.

All I'm saying is that if we can't outscore them, or outdefend them, then we must be more efficient than them.

- doesn't have to be more clinical?

I agree that Oblak was in form yday but 5 shots on target from Morata, was too much. Yesterday he was unlucky and as much as I disagree with Airmark cheesy, I don't wish to watch such luck again.

Does Morata have to be more clinical? Well, what i can say is Morata has, and could increase more, his shoting technique and pray that the one uses beats the GK.

Beside he has the chances to develop and do well, Nihilist only mentioned the big chances and I know goals can come from anywhere so Morata can improve. Chelsea has 254 chances in both EPL and UCL while City has 255. Our wingbacks, midfielders need to start shooting well.
Well put.

Nobody said Morata is doing badly. but can he do better? Of course he can. Must he do better? Most definitely.

Yes Morata is keeping pace with City strikers, but City strikers are 11 points away.

If we all keep the same pace of scoring and conceding, then we finish the league at the same pace of 11 point gap. To reduce the deficit, we need to be super efficient everywhere, but most especially up front.

Strikers generally miss chances at the same rate, If you are not creating enough chances then you should work on that.

Most elite strikers only convert 30% of their chances, If you create 33 for Morata then expect him to score 11, If you bring AGuero and still give him the same 33 chances he will also score around 11
Diego Costa only converted 7 big chances last season, and still managed to net 20, no penalties.

Costa could literally score from nothing - that goal against Stoke where he literally bundled Martins Indi away to score from a throw in comes to mind.

Obviously the supply volume and rate is very important too, no doubt.

But we have to see the big picture.

Realistically, the only way to catch City now is to ensure 3 points from 1 point games. We can't catch them on sheer firepower - They are creating more chances, scoring more goals, and crucially even conceding less goals. They've conceded the fewest shots in the league, conceded the fewest big chances in the league, and conceded the fewest chances overall in the league.

So efficiencies are needed all over the pitch if we're to stand a chance. Of course our defence needs to be tight, but you can only win a game if you score more than your opponent.

So upping efficiency infront of goal is paramount. Of course there's a valid argument that the other players can step up and score more goals, but saying that Morata does not need to up his goal scoring game is facetious as best cos He's the main source of goals for the team.

No it doesn't. Because it is only partial acknowledgement of the actual facts. If anything the numbers posted above show that Morata is doing actually, fantastically well, matching the output of City's top strikers in as many games but with only half the chances created.

This is the fact!
Matching the man city strikers isn't enough though if the volume of chance creation is not the same

Look at it this way.

Aguero has converted 8 big chances for City this season

Gabriel Jesus has also converted 8 big chances

Morata has converted 7

On the face of It, Morata can be said to be matching the output of the each of the city strikers, but here's the kicker.

City have converted 16 of their big chances through Aguero and Jesus alone

Chelsea have only converted 7 through Morata.

So not only are City creating more chances, their combined strikeforce is scoring more goals.

We create half as many chances as City, and their strikers combined have scored twice as many goals as our only striker.

It's not a stretch to conclude that Morata has to up his efficiency in front of goal. It's not enough to match strikers who see double the big chances you do and can afford to be a little profligate.

You have to maximise the opportunities that come your way because they are fewer and less frequent than the competition gets.

They sure should. However, missing chances has so far not been a problem for us this season. Correct me if I am wrong.
I don't remember being behind City because of missed big scoring chances. When did this become a problem to lament about?

As far as I am concerned, the misses yesterday should be considered as exactly what they are - a singular event that needs no escalation at this moment in time.
Actually,I think there's a lot of sense in what Airmark is saying

Mancity have created 63 Big Chances in Total this season

Chelsea have created 33 in the same time period.

If City are creating around double the chances we create, then surely our main striker has to be more clinical in front of goal, if we are to try and keep pace with them?

Can I really cope with 40 games against the worst opponents FIFA has to offer?
Ended up finishing Gold 1.

EPL refs are soo shït these days, it's not even funny

Bournemouth defender Adam Smith, speaking to Sky Sports:
"In the changing room I think overall we're disappointed. We should have had a penalty in the first half too but there were a lot of positives to take away. I got to the ball just before him, jumped to go over it and he took me down.

"For the ref to book me doesn't help because that's my fifth yellow card of the season. I spoke to him after and he apologised and said it was a penalty.

"I don't mind him admitting it but the fact that he booked me and can't' get it rescinded, I'll miss the next game. If we had got the penalty maybe we would have gone and scored another one. But we got a point and need to look forward now."

I am not saying that Drinkwater is a 22-passes-a-game player. I am saying even by his high standards, he is still average.
I am saying Dembele in this same 3-5-2 formation will neither be tasked with only making runs, nor end up with 22 passes.

Either way, it is evidence of their average level ability.
I seriously doubt that.

If Kante is collecting the ball from deep, and Fab is collecting the ball from Kante, you will need someone to move around again.

See where Drinkwater just collected that Kante pass?

That's what Dembele will still be doing. You can't have 3 people in midfield all asking for ball to feet.

I don't think so.
I think it is just highlights the limitation in ther technical ability.
22 passes is just poor. it's not about what they are tasked with. It means they are always standing on the wrong side of play, or standing in the wrong spots during play.
Drinkwater was averaging 50+ passes for Leicester

Now he's averaging 15 for us.

It's not a technical issue. Drinkwater knows how to spot a pass.

Drinkwater's role in that move was lovely. Created space for Hazard with a simple curved run and then played him in with a 1-2

Hazard could and should have had a hatty this game

Looks like we have been scammed with this Drinkwater and Yoko's buys sad angry
Bakayoko offers more mobility than Drinkwater.

Btw Drinkwater has only completed 22 passes today.

Fab and Kante are each on around 60.

I think that the 3rd man in this 352 might be tasked almost solely with generating movement with his runs, rather than getting involved with build-up play
