In those 3 seasons fabregas and Willian who play with the same set of players have more assists despite playing deeper and getting benched a lot this further tells us the problem is Hazard

Hazard and Costa have been the only 2 real goal threats in the last 3 seasons.

So of course, his assist numbers will be down while his goal scoring numbers will be up.

Last season, Hazard was Chelsea top scorer in all competitions with 16 goals. That explains how dire the situation was at the club. If there's no other goal threat who is hazard supposed to crrate for?

Over a season these tough and easy chances even themselves out and if we have a player like Hazard over the past 3 seasons playing with different strikers have 4, 5 and 4 assists then it shows the problem isnt the strikers but Hazard himself

maybe if hazard was playing with a finished striker like Aguero instead of ediots like demba ba, old man Etoo, and Morata maybe his numbers would be better

The chances created too differ in quality. A chance served for a goal line tap in and a pass given to the back of a striker isnt the same

but if the ball that goes to the back of the striker is converted, the supplying player gets the credit for an assist...despite the pass being terrible.

E.g Kane against Panama - RLC assist.

if you're not discriminating assists based on quality, why are you discriminating chances created based on quality?

I think that we're giving too much credit to Mendy and Alonso in terms of pull outs.

Pep like Conte plays a system and instructs the wingbacks to cross the ball into a particular area. He has also instructed his players to make specific runs to those areas.

Mendy was injured most of last season and Sane was the one providing the width for Mancity and many of his assists were cutbacks and crosses into the same areas Mendy has been putting the ball this season.

I'm not saying they're both not good going forward...I'm only pointing out how both are playing in an automated system.

Imo Alonso edges out Mendy because of his added goal threat. That guy is a striker playing at left back for real.
