A new pastor was visiting the homes of his congregation. At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door. When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis 3:10." Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Genesis 3:10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked." |
You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night when you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus: The first is an old lady friend who looks as if she is about to die. Then, an old friend who once saved your life; and the perfect partner you have been dreaming about. Which one will you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there can only be one passenger in your car? |
Hot-angel and IAH, you wan make i vex? this is nothing a laughing matter. it borders on my friend's marriage and the boy's future. I am not being emotional, but if anyone laughs again, i may decide to take the person to Oyo for the same treatment. |
is there any difference between 6 and half a dozen.? What is the difference between 10 years and a decade. sin is sin. there is no greater evil. Don't approach either. Whether you strangle a chicken or slaughter it, the end result is the same. |
Please whatever you do, don't laugh about this. My friend (a lawyer) got married to this doctor from Oyo town in Oyo State. A year after they had their first son, they decided to visit their old folks in Oyo. On the second day after their arrival, the mother-in-law offered to take the toddler out. My friend naturally agreed. In the evening when they came back, the young boy was screaming his head off. Guess what? the poor little boy had been given eight ( pieces tribal mark! My friend nearly died. She refused to accept the branded baby and fled to Lagos. She is contemplating legal action against the mother in law and a divorce against her husband for not condemning the brutal attack. Can surgery help? Please advise her. |
@prince onx. You don't have to justify lies. I'm sure you have come across what is called 'selective truth'. it is nothing but lies. When you meet someone who told you he is a doctor, do you ask him whether it is doctor of shoes or doctor of clock? The burden of proof is always on the one who asserts. And by the way, it's like you guys are are getting warm up unnecessarily. |
@FOD, how do you know that? i'm sure you guys lie cos it makes you feel good. For us, honesty is a virtue. And if you don't know, love has nothing to do with social class or social mobility. We can love you whether you live in Maroko or Moscow. Your personality is more important |
I met this youngman in my undergraduate days in Nigeria. He told everybody that his dad was a medical doctor and his mom; an international business woman. According to him, they lived in a sprawling mansion in Victoria Island and that his siblings were all abroad. One day he was attacked by cultists and had to be rushed home. After much effort we got his address from the school authority. Being a friend, I followed others to take him home. Our first shocker was the address. It was not Victoria Island. It was the old Maroko! The mansion? It was a sprawling 20 face-me-i-face bungalow! His father was indeed a doctor, a NATIVE DOCTOR and his mother's shopping mall was a koisk infront of the bungalow! Till I graduated, I didn't see the guy again! Why do you guys lie? and sisters have you met one of them? Related: Girls and Lies |
the two papers are targeted at different audience. Just like Molue and 'black and yellow' lagos are meant for different classes of commuters. News is not a one-way affair. if you pick up the elitist THISDAY/ GUARDIAN. they report news about leaders. The Sun on the other hand is reporting about the man in the street. Thier cover price is also another index. In United Kingdom, there are different papers for different tastes. The Guardian and Times are elitist, Daily Mirror is Middle Class, Sun(Yes the Sun) is working class and you have a legion of Regional newspapers like my Village Leamington Observer. They are all planets in our galaxy and they are all good. |
Our opinion is based on our perspective. Opinons are free, facts are not. The simple truth is that these two great Nigerians have contributed immensely not only to Literature but also to the socio-politics of our Country. Our opinion does not take anything away from either of them. Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), Shakespare and Dicken did not win any Nobel Prize, yet we acknowlege that their writings are first-class. Achebe and Soyinka are great. Your choice does not determine thier greatness, it is only a reflection of YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE. Read Achebe's Home and Exile and Soyinka's Penkelemesi Years and get my drift year. Happy New Year..... And hope we are not going start comparing Soyinka's Abiku with that of J.P Clark-Bekeredemo |
I read the award wining Purple Hibiscus too. It's a good read. Segun Adeniyi's Last 100 Days of Abacha is equally good. And believe it or not, Soyinka's Penkelemesi Years is fantastic! it is in flowing 'small' english very much uncharacteristic of Kongi. It is a must read. And you will enjoy it, if you dont....... |
Average companies/firms employ average people and pay them average salary. The converse is also true of good company. There is no universal index of good salary. Top law firms in Nigeria pay about N100,000 per month. The same thing applies for other good companies like the new generation banks. Above them are the Consulting firms, IT and Oil companies; they pay between 120-250. Below them are average companies that pay 50,000.This is also the category of public( government service). At the basement, you have private one man firms; if you are lucky, you can go home( hope it will take you home) with 10-15,000 in a month. |
Comparing motivational books with fiction is akin to comparing apple with orange! They are both for different purposes. Motivational books are meant to inspire and challenge you. Fiction is meant to fire your creativity and imagination. It was Shakespare who said that 'nothing is either good or bad, thinking make it so.' It is the use to which you adopt the books that will detemine their utility or otherwise. If you read John Maxwell's motivational books you will admire his creativity and the fact that he has read wide. Motivational books are good, fictions are not bad. |
Well, it appears as if we have gone off-tagent. Are we not supposed to be discussing books? My granny's favourite saying is: you look at the person you are buying from in the market place and not at the noise in the market. Please let's leave the noise. For me, I try to keep an open mind about books. Fiction are fiction and facts are facts. Da Vinci Code is fiction written around historical facts. You can check Dan Brown's website for further information. And while facts are sacred, opinions are free. Our uniqueness is our diversity. I have read all Grisham's books, but the best to me is 'Skipping Christmas'. It is arguably one of the funniest books around. No, it is not the usual legal fiction like the Last Juror or village narrative like A Painted House, it is just a simple story about folks like you. Shildney Sheldon is o.k, i guess have read everyhting but I think Jeffery Archer is gradually missing it... you have to read his Prison Diary and Sons Of Fortune to get my drift. for 'tame' detectives, Agatha Christie is your choice. I bought her Complete Hercules Poirot's series recently. it's a master-piece, though a little bit lady-like. |
This is the period of Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca. However it seems we have lost the essence of this fundamental pillar. To some, it is a period of holiday, others think it is for tourism and to others; it is business trip( a place to get cheap Dubai products). Brothers, what is the essence of Hajj? |
Religious debates, if not properly handled, could generate into acrimony and disharmony. Religious books are opened to several interpretattions. It is like the story of The 6 Blind Men and the elephants. You only know your own perspective. it borders on religous bigotry to force our view down other people's throats. As a matter of practical illustration: the Jehovah Witnesses, the Roman Catholic and the Pentecostal read the same Bible and give it different interpretattion. Who is right and who is wrong? Let's leave unhealthy debates alone and glorify the Holiness of Almighty God |
Marriage itself is very complex. Intertribal marriage is bound to be further complication. Some of the problems are cultural conflict, language barrier, family problems. Love will play a role between the couple, but what of the family? We need to remember that in Africa, marriage is a union of families. Though it is good for national unity, but.........look before you leap and pray hard. |
Pemit me to ask you; how will you feel if someone sleeps with your wife? it is bad. Although it could be tempting but why bother with 'tokunbo' when you can afford new model. My reasons are; it is sinful. it is morally bad you will always be on the lookout for the husband 'magun' is a risk |
thank you Nuru. you can read more about him in today's Thisdayonline. And do you know that he recieved Nobel Prize in Egypt? |
Why do mothers-in-law find it difficult to get on with their daughters-in-law? Is a dead mother-in-law the best one? My mother is perhaps an exception. She has very positive rapport with my brothers' wives. So, my sisters and brothers what do you think of mother-in-law? Any personal experience? |
We come from Almighty Allah and to him we shall return. The Muslim community this week lost the venerable Baba Kamaldeen from Ilorin. Last week, Pastor Bimbo Odukoya lost her life in tragic circumstances. Death is certainly no respecter of persons. It is a fact of life. But what preparations are we making in case of our death? Please do a good deed today, it may be the last thing you do. Goodness is its own reward. |
Nigerians love to read. You just have to go to the nearest vendor to see the myriads of publication to convince yourself. But the question is different when it comes down to books. Some have the tendency to look down on Nigerian Books. One can hardly see books in Nigerian Languages. Why? Most of us will remember African Writers Series, Pacesetters and other series. I have just finished reading 'Ajasin; Memoirs and Memories' and Dare Babarinsa's House of War. They are engrossing and they will give you insight into Nigerian Politics. So beloved Folks, have you read any Nigerian book of recent? |
This question becomes an issue as a result of a lay-man's perception of law. Permit to give some elementary instnces. There is a presumption that every one is innocent until proved guilty. To prove a person guilty, you have to prove beyond reasonable doubt. Now in criminal law, you must prove two things to secure a convition; the physical act and the intention. To a lay man if a driver incidentally knocks down a pedestrian, the conclusion is that he is guilty of murder. However a lawyer will point out that there was no intention to kill. Is that a lie? Put yourself in the postion of the driver. Did you intend to kill when you leave your house? I will commend to members the following quotation from Oputa JSC; 'Justice is not a one-way traffic. There must be justice for the accused, justice for the society and of course justice for the victim. Law is a nobel profession. No Lie.Nothing but the truth. |
though it depends on the parties involved, but generally it shuold not be encouraged. There are bound to be frictions and stress for both parties. what happens if you are no longer interested in the person or you suspect someone else of being interested in your partner. |
