i am a grassroot hustler and i am proud of it. apart from driving on uber i am a computer hardware and software repair and maintenance technician. hustling is my life because thats the condition i found myself. i dream big and my dreams keep working out for me because i never fail to see and maximize opportunity.

i show them that it is possible and i show facts. That you own 10 cars on uber and dont have to lift a finger is your own problem. i dont care about that.
i will hustle, i will till the soil hard, i will pay off my HP. when the HP has been paid off and the car is mine i'll keep driving till i buy a newer car for myself and remit weekly to myself.
there is no shame in what i do. i am very proud of myself. there is dignity in every job. i may not own a car right now and have to drive on HP but 2 years down the line i may have 10 cars and drivers working for me because of my work ethics

Nothing but the whole truth! I'm a grassroot hustler too, but I have big dreams. I joined Uber just at the point where they announced the 40% reduction in fares; but Romeo3 has inspired me to still go for it, try my best and expect that things will still work out for me in this Uber business. Romeo3 is not perfect, but he is as open as a book! There are several positives I've taken away from his experiences as narrated in this thread. If we cannot understand his point(s) of view, at least let's respect the fact that he is entitled to them.
you do not own a car. you are driving for someone. or you are driving HP for someone and you want to make millions while driving another persons car?
majority of lagos uber drivers are dumb by default.
you are dumb if you do not know lagos roads very well and you cannot use gps very well and you decide to join uber just because you heard there was money in it.
these things require Just more than the ability to drive. being able to drive doesnt make you an uber driver. you have to be smart.
for christ sake majority of these guys cannot even use the uber drivers app. all they are interested in is to just tap the circle any time a request comes in.
price reduction + incentives + promotions = more money.
if more money isnt involved no one would bring it up. its like these people also forget that price reduction also means a reduction in the value of the 25% that uber collects.
in the former price regime on a 2000 naira trip uber makes 500.
in the new reduced fares where a 2000 naira trip now costs 1000 naira does uber still make 500? no. they make 250.
does any one think a company like uber will set up a business model that will make them lose money?
Here's a framework for thinking about the math in this Uber business. Two things DEPRECIATE the value of a car - 1) Mileage, 2) Age. The way I figured this out, our Uber cars will still depreciate (age) if we decided, for instance, to park them in our garage and not drive them. Using these cars on Uber piles up miles on them in a relatively short time; thus reducing their resale value. The right game plan is this - use the car on Uber for max of 18 months; then sell and trade up to another car. My two cents; though

The maintenance costs alone barely keep up what Uber pays you. So while you may get away with no costs in the short term, eventually you're going to have to pay down the road.

Just so we know, the Math in this youtube video doean't add up. Figures can be manipulated in any way to tell any story. Here's another set of figures I happen to be conversant about. This dude in my estate started out on Uber with a Toyota Yaris, hire purchase - #1.2 million. He paid up fully in 10 months; sold the Yaris for #1.4 million and bought a 2009 Camry which he uses now. Let's not forget that he was also able to pay his bills in those 10 months. So how do we cast this true story in the light of this youtube math? My point is this - if you really understand what you are doing, you can be well ahead in this Uber business ... trust me
i dont know where you come from. but from where i come from, spending 9,300 naira on a car that does almost 4,000 miles and makes almost 400,000 naira in 3 weeks is not a "bloody waste"..... it's just common sense.
