No,you are wrong.
Did people in Africa start getting ARVs for free in 2017?
So how can someone say "if not for Bill Gates,Africans would bla bla bla...."
The company that changed the narrative for ARVs and
PLWHIV in Africa is Cipla,not anybody else.
They started doing so as far back as the 90s.
No one ever complained about their $1 dollar a day medication,so Bill Gates doing some unwarranted philantropy was on his own in this.
Give credit where it is due,learn that,know that.
I see your point.

Prior to the 2000s, there were $1 a day antiretrovirals courtesy of Cipla.

Bill and Melinda Gates' Foundation made that happen.

When Bill gates want it to be? undecided
Most of HIV drugs were made easily available to Africans thanks to Bill Gates?Are you sure about this?
Go and read up on Cipla,an Indian pharmaceutical giant.
They are the reasons why a lot of people with HIV are still alive by knocking flat the price for as low as $1 a day or less.
You think if ARVs were still going for what western companies inflated them to go for,you think governments will be able to give it free to the afflicted?
Where does Bill Gates even fill-in in all of this? undecided
I have been reading silently and I noticed you aren't as informed as you want people to think you are.

I'm not disparaging you sir, but you have your facts wrong. Bill Gates and his Foundation have really done a lot to "cheapen" HIV drugs in Africa. See links below:

I appreciate your response.

I know that viruses do exist naturally and they can be modified somewhat but I am asking specifically "was/is Covid-19 an experiment-gone-wrong or even an intentionally malicious adaptation of an existing virus" ?

Also, where were the other "newly discovered" viruses since the thousands of years that we have been inhabiting this planet ?

I am not trying to push any conspiracy theory here, I am just hoping that someone who knows more than I do will shed more light on the matter.
I believe Covid-19 is a biological weapon being developed by the Chinese military that ran amok by mistake. According to the news, Wuhan had the problem since December 2019 and they were secretive about it. They are still secretive about it — recently, they've been censoring their scientists from publishing any findings about Covid-19.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/04/12/asia/china-coronavirus-research-restrictions-intl-hnk/index.html

https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2020/04/24/chinese-state-censorship-of-covid-19-research-represents-a-looming-crisis-for-academic-publishers/

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/coronavirus/china-is-censoring-research-on-covid-19-origins-deleted-web-page-suggests/ar-BB12wIhJ

https://www.newsweek.com/china-censoring-research-covid-19-origins-deleted-page-wuhan-university-website-suggests-1497467?amp=1

So, yes, Covid-19 is a biological weapon of war. It has already crippled 26 US warships (https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/sunk-total-26-us-navy-ships-have-covid-19-cases-147226) and killed 51,000 Americans. Remember that only 3600+ Americans died in 9-11 and US went to war (still ongoing after 19 years).

@dejidotun2000
Viruses exist naturally, but they can be genetically modified and turned into weapons. So its possible Covid-19 is a "weaponized" virus.

Let me give an analogy. Toluene, sulfuric acid and nitric acid all exist in nature and are harmless.

But put concentrated forms of all three together ... and boom! You have an explosive that can bring down a 10-storey building.

The vaccines will only be available to Africans when bill gates want it to be.

Reality check, most of Ebola drugs, HIV/AIDs drugs were made easily available to us, thanks to bill gates and his wife.

In Europe and america, many are against the proposal of vaccination of the populace by Bill Gates, anyway, he might make it work here in Africa.
I agree Bill and Melinda Gates' advocacy make these vaccines reach Africa faster.

Even if they find a cure, they will treat their citizens first.

I remembered when 2 French doctors said they should test some trial drugs on Africans, all over social was shout about racism, I asked some doctors, they said it was a good idea of testing the trail drugs on Africans to see how they will react because some drugs react differently on different race, these doctors i asked gave instances of diabetics drugs, they know the type of drugs they will give to a white patient vs a black patient suffering from the same disease.
True, but it will trickle down to everyone eventually. Remember, people travel up and down the earth. I'm sure they will understand it is in everyone's interest that everybody gets vaccinated or treated. Good example is yellow fever vaccination which is required for international travel.

Recall that there are vaccines that work against the Ebola virus. They are now available for everyone who asks. The same will happen for Covid-19.

And I think there should be no basis for extending the lockdown, scary though it may be.

The use of facemask, good hygiene (e.g. washing hands regularly, not touching face, wiping surfaces with mixture of bleach, water and disinfectant) and social distancing should keep us safe for the meantime.

I think we are only a few months away from a viable Covid-19 vaccine or drug. For example,

https://m.jpost.com/health-science/coronavirus-drug-to-be-tested-on-patients-in-israel-625674/amp

https://www.timesofisrael.com/2-israeli-covid-19-patients-improve-in-experimental-drug-trial/

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1180021

So until then, we can make do with the preventive measures while we get the economy working again. Unfortunately, the genetically-weak or diseased will lose their lives; but then, it is what it is.

My 2 kobo.

Good morning everybody and happy Sunday.

So, I'm thinking.

Since this Covid-19 pandemic started in December last year, infection and mortality rates in the 0 - 20 years population segment is less than 0.5% (my assumption, based on reporting in the US, UK, Spain, France, China); maybe 0% sef smiley.

Is there something science can learn from this population segment? For example, do this population segment have the so-called "herd immunity?"

Can someone shed light on this? @Carshopper, @radautoworks, @bigleaf1006, @sexylassie, @dru23, @Izzou and my other bosses.

And while we were bantering these past few days, the price of crude oil just fell to less than $1 per barrel.

That has great repercussions for everyone on this thread. The earlier we start putting heads together to figure out how to survive the coming months, the better for everyone here.

But I trust my people on this thread, fake posturing and likes are more important than serious discourse.

@Chuwaa
Your timeline of events is detailed, but you see, they are just Trump's administration's excuses for its failure.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/germany-testing-coronavirus

The article above highlights Germany's preparation when the virus broke out in Wuhan. Germany began preparing in December 2019. President Trump was still wishing the virus away in late February and calling it another Democrats hoax. Imagine if the US had taken the steps Germany took, in December?

Let's contrast:
1). Germany's total death toll since January is yet to hit 2,000 after 14 weeks of the crisis.
2) 2,800 Americans died yesterday from the virus.

Let President Trump keep up with his excuses while Americans die under his watch. We know governments that work when we see one.

Aside from Trump, I also think WHO failed in their ONLY RESPONSIBILITY. I remember even up to Jan 2020 WHO was still against shutting d borders. Up until Dec 2019, WHO still could not establish if there is human-human transmission. WHO seems (I stand to be corrected) to be relying "too much" on info from President XI, even me from my small room here I know and it was quite obvious that the Chinese govt was lying about this virus. Yet, WHO too me was just too China centric and I agree with Trump on that. I never knew a day will come when I will agree with Trump on anything.
Though, suspending funding at the middle of a pandemic is quite pathetic and dumb.
You are 100% correct
BusinessRe: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by nitigriti(m):
Trump is not a racist. He is just an egocentric narcissist. Once you understand that about him, it will be easy to see where his failings come from: his consistent need for self-adulation.

I'll give examples:
1. He had to come across as a President who knew what he was doing when he fired the America's pandemic team in China (Obama set up the teams in global disease hotspots), so he tells Americans, don't worry about the Corona virus, the Chinese government is on top of it;
2. He's egocentric and can't take honest advice from his Scientists, so he ignores warnings in several quarters that a pandemic was about to hit the US and that the US was unprepared;
3. He shut US airports against planes coming from China but not those coming in from the EU, even though Italy, Spain, France and the UK were already in full-blown crisis with hundreds dying;
Again, he had to overrule his advisers who advocated that he shut down all travel to and from the US, because, egoist that he is, he has to be the smartest guy in the room;
4. When the crisis hit the US, independent research laboratories and University laboratories were developing tests to sense the virus. Mr President made it illegal to use those tests. Only the test kits approved by the FDA made the cut; so several weeks of proactive testing of millions were missed;
5. He's picking fights with Governors in the midst of thousands of Americans dying on his watch - 31,000 Americans as at this morning.

Guys, his egocentrism is his undoing. Every failure he has had as a leader is because of it. He is not racist. He just can't help adoring himself. He is the most beautiful son of a bitch to walk the face of this earth. And he failed the whole earth. Let's just imagine Obama as President in the midst of this crisis. Things would have turn out well for the earth.

Americans made a mistake voting an egocentric person into the Presidency. The funny thing is, they might repeat the mistake in November. We humans are funny. We can do no wrong. We are always right. Only the guy next door is wrong.

During the Ebola pandemic, president Obama at the time set up pandemic team to go straight to Africa assist in fighting the crisis..

When it comes to Global crisis, malaria smallpox, polio etc .. The USA feels obligated to help in their own best interest to avoid the crisis hitting the USA shore ...

From the Ebola experience, Obama set up a global crisis team to help over look any pandemic in the future. Obama set up funds to help this agency .....

When the Trump administration came into power guess what happen? Just like any other structure Obama had in place, Trump disband the pandemic team .. And he stated that he can't be wasting money and paying billion of dollars for people to be do nothing .. And he put his son in law in charge ...mind you the pandemic team had already sent memos warning the president about the crisis, but Trump ignore them .....

So now the crisis hits the American people with no pandemic team to fight it .. So who do you think is at fault now ? Trump is a clown, The American people voted for a clown, and they just have to deal with it .. People need to take actions for what they do... The American people voted for a clown , they should deal with the consequences......
100% on point!

Wow! Are you for real?! So you're one of those that hate the man. Had he not taken prompt measures in closing down their borders America would have had more than the 2million predicted death by now.

Or in what way did you think he failed.

To me the Chinese government should be blamed for this whole problem happening in thw world now because, why didnt they resort to a total lockdown when this dieses brokeout and was killimg people in thousands last year but no, they kept it a secret to themselves and to the world thinking they would hide their pregnancy and the baby after delivery.

The doctor that caution them and suggested an early lockdown to them last year died mysteriously.

Why sir?
There are so many angles the series didn't explore. For example, the distrust between Tokyo and Raquel. They just jelled like that. How possible?

Then do you notice Tokyo actually loves the Professor? Recall she once tried seducing him. Imagine Tokyo as Professor's side chick and Raquel finding out.

Then the part of using Nairobi's son to bait her was just fake through and through. That wasn't good storytelling at all.

Then the Professor falling for that trick of the Police faking Raquel's death in a shootout. The Professor is supposed to be too intellectual to fall for that. Remember how unemotional he was when Berlin sacrificed himself to keep the Police at bay while they escaped with the loot? His character is supposed to be that detached at Raquel's "death" as well. I mean, he's a professional thief, the death of comrades comes with the territory.

I can go on and on.

To be honest, worst case scenario, you loose all your funds! But for that to happen, there has to be some serious political upheaval - like maybe a Civil War!

Or maybe the bank goes bankrupt; which seems not probable.

Even if there is a military coup, your funds should be safe.

It was averagely okay not until Nov - Dec last year.
This report states year 2019 but I am sure Nov to Dec is not inclusive. Treasury and mutual both crashed the individuals on treasury purchase.
You need to cite references sir. I'm sure yield data would be available on CBN website and the individual banks' year end financial reports.

But that notwithstanding, understand sir that the markets go up and down and that the true yield comes if you have something substantial to put in for the long term. That is how the rich make their money. They stay in the game for the long term. Good examples, Warren Buffet (Berkshire Hathaway), Ray Dalio (Bridgewater Associates).

In my opinion, 8 months is too short a period to judge the performance of a security. And maybe #5,000+ is too small an investment too.

Anywhere in the world, any security that can give you 10-12% sure yield every year is good enough.
