Drivers, as a rule, don't collect cars from partners who don't have their own personal cars separate from their e-hailing cars. Also, tell them you won't be available at all for "family runs" (e.g. Ogbeni, where are you? My wife is going to Ikoyi tomorrow morning. Please come and pick her up by 10:00am. Don't worry, you can take #5,000=00 off your delivery this week) ... those kinds of arrangement is nonsense. No, that is a very big offence on both Uber and Taxify. Rider should report ASAP to Uber or Taxify

It happened this evening. I picked up a lady from Ikorodu to Obafemi Awolowo Way Ikeja. Trip fare was #2,200. She said she wanted to transfer, I told her okay and gave her my conditions. She agreed. She did the transfer, I didn't see a credit alert SMS, she did not see a debit alert SMS. Only option left, as per our agreement, was for her to source the cash. A male friend of hers came to her rescue after she called Him on phone. The guy comes and pays me cash. I leave the scene

Two hours later, I get the alert SMS for #2,200! Immediately, I sent a message to her to send her account number so I can transfer the cash back to her.

What network do you use sir? The requests come in and expire before your network even transmits the requests to you. That is what think is happening. Get Spectranet or 9mobile

Make sure your network is fast - spectranet or 9mobile. Be calm, understand how to use Google maps well; especially understand how to read your Google map when the network is ultrafast or when it is slow - or else, you will end up taking a wrong turn. Be courteous to your rider, if you need help with directions, politely ask (I still do: "sorry, I'm not very familiar with this area. Can you help me with directions?)
As you drive, keep your eyes open for road signs and traffic lights. Don't get distracted on the job - two motorists are shouting and punching each other? Drive past without glancing at them, you didn't come to Lagos to watch film ...
Ultimately just know you will be fine. It's not rocket science. Just be calm

Insurance is very very important for ridesharing, your car is your business, traversing the city making money for you. It only makes sense to protect that investment.
Uber announced its insurance policy for drivers, and the figures seem good.

Here are Uber’s insurance figures:
Medical expenses Up to NGN 2,250,000*

Ground ambulance Expenses NGN 20,000

Permanent disability (total or partial) Up to NGN 7,500,000

Death Up to NGN 7,500,000

Funeral Expenses NGN 100,000

Annual cost to partner NGN 0

*Medical expenses amounting to less than ₦10,000 are not covered.

But there is one fact that isn’t here, and that fact is very important.
Uber’s insurance only covers Period 2 and Period 3. Period 2 kicks off as soon as the driver accepts a ride request, all the way till when the driver picks the rider. Period 3 kicks off as soon as the rider enters your car.
These are the two periods you are covered for in Uber’s insurance policy for drivers.
This means that Period 1- which is when you are not online on the app or when you are online but don’t have a trip request yet- is intensely risky for Ride share drivers.

This is called the rideshare gap.
Any unfortunate event that happens during this period is not covered by Uber’s insurance.

Needless to say, it is extremely important to safeguard yourself and your vehicle from hazards that may occur as a result of driving around town ferrying passengers all day
Do not treat your Insurance with kid gloves, get a good cover, one that takes into cognizance your job as a rideshare partner-driver.
Taxi App Guy has done research into the best type of Insurance especially for Ride share drivers. I will be releasing an update next week on just this topic, where to get the best rideshare partner-driver insurance policy.

I have an amutueur question. I purchased a car that I will put on the road specifically for ride share. I wish to hire a driver at a flat monthly rate, and I will absorb the fuel, maintenance, etc. costs, while keeping any excess as profit. I'm waiting to complete the required registrations etc. and hire a driver. I was wondering if their was a limit to the number cars I can carry under this scheme. If this proves profitable I am able to purchase 5 cars and have on the road earning. I would pay the drivers a flat monthly shift, and work the numbers to earn a profit for myself. Is this a feasible business plan?

Most riders will have the perspective of the car not being "elegant" to say the least. Poor ratings, over time, will soon put the car out of business

Personally, I go into Ajao Estate because, apart from waiting for airport trips alone, I can get other trips from surrounding areas - Isolo, Oke Afa, Ago Palace, Okota - usually on surge; + I get to walk around, stretch my legs and get something to eat. You can't do all these in airport area.

As per traffic, 15 minutes max, you will be there - international, local or mma2; but it's always good to call the rider and let him/her know. It's surge, most will be grateful they even have a car to wait for at all

Drive past the airport, ensure you have been placed on the queue. Then enter Ajao Estate and enter the street immediately after CPM and park. You will still be on queue; meanwhile, nobody will disturb you on that street. Once you get a ride request, call your rider - tell him/her you will be with him/her in 10 minutes. Drive out of Ajao Estate and turn at DHL towards airport.

Your rider will be billed #400=00 parking fee, and #200=00 airport toll
