If i use the quality of characters who log on to this site to judge i would say nigerians dont deserve the likes of soyinka and achebe. people on this site largely on account of their selfish partisan reasons, poor upbringing and manners dragged the name of these great men thru the mud just to score one or two hollow points

PoliticsBoko-Haram: 500 Foreigners Arrested In Lagos by nku5(op): 6:28am On Mar 23, 2013
500 foreigners in Lagos

By IFEANYI OKOLI
No fewer than, 500 nationals of some neighbouring countries resident in Lagos, were yesterday arrested by the state police command in connection with Thursday’s arrest of two Boko Haram suspects at Ijora area of the state.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the arrests which was coordinated by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau,SIB, and police divisions across the state, were carried out during raids of several locations in the state.

A video grab made on March 21, 2013 from a video distributed to reporters by purported intermediaries of the Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, shows the suspected leader of the Nigerian Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Imam Abu Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Abubakar Ash Shekawi, also known as Abubakar Shekau, at an undisclosed location in Nigeria. AFP
Some of those arrested, according to eyewitness included women and young children.
But sources at the command said that the raid was reportedly ordered by the state Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, who asked his men to fish out suspected Boko Haram infiltrators into the state.

According to the police sources those arrested were detained at the Police Command’s Headquarters, Ikeja, where they were rigorously interrogated, documented and vetted.
Most of the arrested were later discovered to be Chadians, Nigeriens and Malians who had no proper documentation to stay in the country.

”We are waiting for the CP’s order on what to do with the foreign nationals who do not have any business Lagos” the source stated.

The National Vice Chairman, Arewa Youth Development Association of Nigerian, Shuaibu Dansudu, who was at the command headquarters, to secure the release of some Hausa residents of Oke-Odo Market, Ile-Epo and Oja commended the police for making efforts at ensuring that members of the deadly Boko Haram sect do not infiltrate the state.
Dansudu however, asked the Federal Government to do all it can to ensure that the sect’s insurgency was put to an end.

”Government needs to do all it can to ensure peace in all parts of the country even if it requires granting them amnesty. We can not continue to live like this,” he pleaded
Meanwhile, residents of Oyegbemi Street, at Ijora 7up area of the state where two Boko Haram suspects were arrested have commended the security agencies for apprehending the suspects.

Oluwa Idowu, a resident whose uncompleted building is situated next to the area where one of the suspects was arrested, urged landlords in the state to properly vet their would-be tenants before letting their apartments to them.

”I was shocked when I heard the news but I am not familiar with the man because he just moved in three months ago. But I am grateful to God that he was arrested before he succeed in carrying out his plans. But this issue is an eye opener to landlords and home owners in this state.

We must be wary and properly vet people we rent our apartments to; so we do not fall victims to evil.

By doing so, we will assist the security agents in discharging their jobs,” She stated.

Fashola needs to order grassroots oriented awareness campaign. People need to be vigilant. At the end of the day i'm glad they banned okadas on the highways

I feel for the man because he and his colleagues actually thought they could boost unity by having a strong centre. Pity it didnt turn out the way they planned. I do appreciate their drive to correct it through a national conference
PoliticsRe: 100 Soldiers Storm Terror Suspects’ Hideouts In Lagos by nku5: 9:26am On Mar 22, 2013
Nice one from the security agencies. After a shaky start against BH i believe they are becoming more effective. One challenge is that the number of foreigners from chad and niger is high in lagos. Anyway i trust Lagosians. Fashola should complement with some awareness programmes most likely through the local government so people can be vigilant.

In a way i can appreciate fashola's okada ban now.

I could not find anything out of place in his analysis and break down of salient issues. I hope we have people to fill the shoes of men like this when they bow out

ngozievergreen: what? , Infact , Gowon even replaced Murtala with sb else(thinking he was incompetent), when biafra was winning initially with the Ogbunigwe. And thats when the british community came to help with arms.
I recently spoke to a biafran veteran and he said that removing murtala was one of the wisest moves gowon made during the war because his (murtala) genocidal exploits in asaba brought out the beast in them (biafran troops) and so far as he was still leading a command they had sworn to fight to the death and that murtala would never take igbo soil again without being assassinated and losing the bulk of his men.

Tolexander: This Nwazurike guy seems be intellectually deficient!

Was he not the man that said he declared the state of biafra. Also said they would form a biafran government. How come he said he is supporting GEJ in nigeria as a nigerian citizen!

Though he made a nice statement of not condoling reprisal.
It was some other group called BZM not massob. Infact massob guys clamp down as hard as they can on BZM where they find them.

@topic - I don't like uwazurike cos I think the man has his priorities mixed up but really he has just made the wisest statement he could have made. Even if there is a conscious decision to get revenge, who dem go shoot? Innocent northerners going about their own business??

That would be the easiest way to fall into BH's trap

Read about the invasion of the Midwest here

You yoruba guys are addicted to quoting that bullshyte blog that is not corroborated by ANY other news outlet from 1967 till date its only that joke of an article that alleges so called biafran atrocities. Bunch of lies.Instead of him to address the allegations of nepotism against him,he's busy fooling around like an assshole.we all know why your sister in immigration Rosemary UZOMA Was sacked after all the scandals against her.

What now makes you think you are better than her when we all know that being the first Army chief in a long time coupled with the marginalization of the ibos occasioned by the long years of northern domination of the military and Nigeria politics, the only thing certain is for you to fix your ibo brothers to fill in the marginalized space.however, coming out to preach to Nigerians on how you are a good army chief even in the face of evidence against you is totally bullshiit.Admit your wrong and stop lying even the same thing is happening in SSS and other organizations where the SS and the SE occupy !

CyberG: Igbo logic again! You did not read him quote from different sources? Why don't you go find those sources and read it all in details? Or you think this is a technical report or book with references/bibliography which you wouldn't have read anyway and MOST iboz will never read! Did you ask references of Aschebe? No, of course his agenda suits you and ibo people! Yet you missed where he said he read and combed through 21,000 pages/sources of information! Why don't you start there and issue your own rebuttal. Typical ibo man!
Smallie! You never hear say when adults dey talk kids should keep their mouths closed and ears open.

If I wrote an article saying awolowo was a british spy and I said I got it from a source doesn't common sense dictate that I provide (since its an internet article) a link to authenticate my sources??

Intellectual progress is not about screaming rhetoric so ppl can clap for you. It comes from points thrashed out and scrutinised thoroughly. Either challenge intellectually or go play e-thug or lol, "cyberg" with ya mates

texazzpete: I despise and abhor tribalism and ethnic bias...I thank God that I come from a 'minority' tribe so I don't have to take sides in this inanity.
However, i am firmly convinced that 99% of the other posters here are making these jibes good-naturedly. Many of these yoruba guys here have igbo girlfriends and vice versa for some of our outspoken Igbo brothers.

However, there are a few here that i'm 100% convinced are dead serious in their hatred. Dede1 is the most prominent of these. I will stand against such people...and for now, he will suffice as the face of generational hatred on Nairaland.
I'm taking no sides here. I find Damola's arguments to be quite convincing and if my challenges towards my Igbo brothers here will make their attempts at rebuttals lean more towards logic than insults, all the better.

How the heck is this a 'generalization' or a stereotype (the word i used)? Did I say "all Igbos are coup plotters"?
From the events of that day, the casualties recorded and the key members of the plot, holding a position that the coup was 'Igbo led' or 'had an igbo supremacist agenda' may not be far-fetched.
These refer to the coup plotters and not every man, woman and child of Igbo extraction.
I am very happy you dont condone tribalism. My take is you have been convinced by the arguments of the author, many igbo people reading through have reservations about it for obvious reasons. The author without a doubt says it was an "igbo" coup and unless i'm wrong that is a generalisation because he didnt specify that there was a difference between igbo coup plotters and the igbo race. Innocent igbos died in their tens of thousands before the first shot of the war was fired in progroms in 1966 because of these sort of generalisations and as the neutral man you say you are, there is a moral obligation to make this point clear no matter who is speaking igbo or not.

In my opinion, the article takes off with a lot of fancy language and carries on alleging endlessly, depending on the stereotype that already exists about igbos. I didnt see him provide any concrete references for the facts he rolled out . The internet can be used by EVERY type of character (genius liars inclusive)to vent personal opinions to millions like never before.

texazzpete: The reason why i hold YOU in contempt is because you have never truly grown up. You're an old man, older than many people in this forum and still you have never learnt the basic lesson that any mature person must learn: You cannot use one man or group of men to stereotype an entire group of people!
Interesting you would call dede1 out for generalisation when other tribes, yorubas especially slag off on igbos day in day out. This thread is bursting at the seams with generalisations, this site is full of such.

In a related way isn't the "igbo coup" you all are battling hard to prove, a generalisation?
