Things fall apart for me... that novel covers a lot of facets of our various ethnicities and the white man's opposition of our custom and our struggle in maintaining our identities while doing so. Add to that the various proverbial inclination of the novel and you have a life time companion. One which stood out was Okonkwo's while in his mothers village "fire begets cold impotent ash" 1 Like |

smileysmiley: We seem to be on the same page now. Without sounding monotonous, I'll like to state one final fact, these women that are professors, judges and so on became that either because their various families supported them or they were strong willed enough to see their dreams come to reality. Not everyone is like that, some people don't have that zeal to fight the norm and some don't even know that they can go against the norm so they just settle for what they get. This bill is supposed to protect the interest of women like that. the women who sit and do nothing are weak. Life would never be fair to an individual someone once said And I quote "people of accomplishment don't just sit back an let things happen, they happen on things" it didn't say women or men did it now? I've made my point an I'm tired of typing good to make an argument with a lady that wouldn't tear your head off. Nice chatting with you ma'am |

Ghost01: Contemporary mainstream feminism is loud, confrontational, and what we may call ... "anti-sexist sexism". Gone were the days when women rights activists like Betty Friedan tried to do away with 'feminility' or 'masculinity' by advocating that what both sexes share is 'humanity' and that that's what we should be concerned about.
The Senate goofed by not considering the GEB, but even those who sponsored the Bill goofed more by equating gender equality solely with feminist demands. bro your insight and way of thinking is a welcome addition to the human race |

It is not subjective. the language suggests that words have their meaning according to the role they play in a sentence, hence my question is to understand the angle you were coming from. And what do you mean by subjective cos your argument or point of view would be substantial or worthwhile if you have clarity. And a little politeness from you would go a long way in helping you to be convincing. I perceive a choleric temperament |

smileysmiley: sweetheart I'm from Imo, Isiala mbano to be precise. I made that statement cause it is related to the topic. Two of my secondary school mates (Igbo girls) are married to men old enough to father them, these girls had their boyfriends before the marriage and they were practically forced into it, the father of one threatened to disown her. Yh, it is a culture but it has become the law. Whether this bill will be able to stop it is a story for another day. Most girls are being educated now to increase their market value, take it or leave it. An average Nigerian parent with no value for education will marry his daughter out once she is done with her first degree, with no regards to whether she wants to further or not but they will give no second thoughts to further their son through school. We all know the reason most men are not in school is cause they are looking for a surer means to make money. The girls go to school, the boys make money and come to make their pick and whether she is interested or not, her parents will bundle her and give her to the guy. a culture can never take the place of the law legally. You've got decent points and I'm going to have to agree with some, most parents push their children irrespective of their gender to study these days, one of the characteristics of a living thing is competition and adaptation, women are professors, judges, consultants and whatever they choose to become,a choice they made for themselves not what society gave them. |

smileysmiley: that's why I mentioned the Northerners, the bill will favor them more cause they are way behind.... culture that has become the law... do you really think the bill is supposed to affect the role a wife is supposed to play to her husband, I don't know why everyone thinks that is what it is about. The bill is just meant to protect the interest of the girl child in places where 'culture' has taken place. Talking about your school, you are from the South east na, the girls have to be educated so that they are more expensive for the buyers sorry I meant suitors.... I'm Igbo too and I meant no insult that was an insult, but one I choose to ignore for the sake of your ego and Igbos don't need no introduction and I know you ain't one btw I school in Unilag |

khalhokage: The Foluke person really is foolish, with all that's going on in this country how can an intelligent woman not want gender equality?
I was about to travel one day when my ex told me " I know you are going to sleep with other girls when you get there but all I ask is that you come back to me " I lost my respect for her that day, that's why we're not together today.
I don't want a pet for a significant other that'll roll over and submit whenever I say something, I want a smart woman that can challenge me and make me better, someone that can earn my respect, I want someone that'll respect me for myself instead of fear and tolerate me.
Any woman that's against gender equality, shame on you. this won't score you points with the ladies man.. admire the effort tho |
Celebrities › Re: Foluke Daramola & Feminists Fight Dirty 4 Saying Men Shld Be Ahead Of Women(pics by Nnachuka(m): 8:54am On Apr 27, 2016 |
smileysmiley: the gender equality bill is all about protecting the interest of young girls, those being forced into premarital marriages and those being raped. It doesn't in anyway affect the normal respect a woman should accord her husband. It's just a preventive measure for young girls who are exploited sexually and I'm surprised that Northern women are not carrying it on their head since their underaged daughters are the main victims. Foluke is wrong, she talked about it like it was going to stop the man from being the head of the family when it is just about protecting the rights of young females. I think the problem is that many people don't understand what it is about, they just read the surface meaning and conclude. Our dear men, gender equality is not about who is in charge in the household, it is about protecting our young girls and their rights, it is about stopping things like "she should not go to school cause she is a girl", "she should get married at a tender age when she doesn't even know what marriage is about", "she should not get a share of her father's property", "her opinion doesn't count", "she was raped cause she wanted it". I'm sure you would not want your daughter to be exploited in such manner. It is all about protecting the interest of the girl child from callous men. #protectthebrandfeminity you've spoken well.....but not wholly true cos the aforementioned mentioned facts you said are culture at play not legislation....the ratio of boys to girls in my school are in favour of the girls |

DrMeroThaEmperor: The Parade ground evaders: these set of individuals usually hide in the Mosques, Clinic, Computer room, nearest bush, feign illness/leg pain/fainting or hungry, or inside OBS studio.
The Boys' Scout/ Man o' War/ Barracks boys: just be calm when you are marching next to them on the parade ground. They even instruct, direct & correct you more than the Army officers in charge.
The Cowards & Frail hearted: everything gets them scared. From "what is your name?" to "attention by number!"
The Tribalists: They believe their tribe is the only tongue in the country. I remember one guy (fellow corps member) speaking Yoruba to me at Yikpata camp. The moment I told him I'm a Deltan & barely understand Yoruba, he exclaimed, "Ahh... You are not a Nigerian if you don't speak one of the major languages especially Yoruba...." Thank God for God and the 'regimented life in NYSC camps'
The business Men: They hawk recharge cards, sachet water, pieces of art, network marketing, even laundry, etc
The Good Samaritans: this category of individuals is dominated by guys... PS: they don't render any 'Samaritan' services to their kinsmen- as in fellow men. Why is that? Your guess is as good as mine.
The 'whiners': They keep complaining about the whole NYSC scheme- The camp, the food, the location, the waste of time for one year, how they will go to the state capital or other major cities for their Primary Assignments, how they would have been in Abj, Lagos, A/Ibom, etc and how they will 'still go there.' . . . The problem with these guys is that you will still see them at monthly general CDS & realize that they are in a remote rural area in the same state.
The boasters: same as above.^^ ... More so, they claim to know the Camp Director, Camp Captain, even the State Governor.
The Mummy's/Daddy's boy/girl: these graduates were brought to camp by their parents & siblings. Guy, I vex for these kids.
The Americanas: These folks schooled in institutions in Canada, Finland, Russia, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, etc... Dem nor dey let people hear word for camp. "I schooled in Sao Tome and Principe so fear me o"
The Love Birds: the love-killi-me-I-die people. They even pray to be posted to the same LGA.
The humourous and hilarious guys: this is sometimes made up of one guy or a group of guys. There is no dull moment when you are around them. My friend Etizz, a NL, falls into this category. He is a one-man-mopol... No dullness.
The dumb: they don't talk, contribute or even suggest. . . All they do is stare and sometimes laugh to events best known to them. #Tufiakwa
The Professors: these guys believe they went to the best schools & studied the best course... I taya for them abeg.
The Boring Zombies: no hard feelings to Buhari loyalists here- My unreserved apologies. Now, these guys are both deaf & dumb, expressionless, no sense of humour, no opinion, no ideas, etc... They have no say of their own. They only do things when they see others doing them, for the 21 days you won't see them talk, smile, laugh, cry, complain, miss parade, morning meditation, man o' war drills, etc... I don't know if they are shy but I doubt! They are just brainless dumb introverts slash zombies.
The Oppressors, Bullies & Cultists: them dey but na only men with eyes go see them.
Enjoy yourselves guys & girls! you have spoken with the air of someone who knows so little about people, I would advise you keep your mouth shut on occasions you know little of so as to not expose your massive ignorance. Remain blessed |

It is in every man's right to complain when he feels hard done by things that aren't supposed to be... we make a mockery of independence when we decide to find solace in the shackles of cowardice. It goes beyond school... a successful coward is worthless to the society for when he dies he would be remembered for nothing. The likes of Mandela, Ojukwu and Soyinka, wouldn't be remembered if they just let things happen. |
