I have also heard that we have one of the best banking system in the world. I do not know how true this is though, but I understand that a lot of the things we take for granted in our present banking system are not available in a lot of countries.

Please, if I am wrong, no need to insult, just correct me, I am not feeling too fine.
Sometimes I wonder if it is the same Nigeria I know you guys are talking about. You know the longest I've ever waited to be served in a bank here in Canada? 5 minutes or less. You know how many times I've lined up to withdraw money from an ATM? ZERO. Yes you read that right. Zero times that I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one that uses ATMs. I could from the comfort of my bedroom take a photo of a cheque and have the funds deposited in my bank account, within seconds, without leaving my house. Abeg stop all these unnecessary hype about Nigeria. Fear God na

Are nigerians homeless? Apart from mad people, almost every body has a roof over their heads. As a Nigerian, how many homeless people do you know because I know non in Akwa ibom.
Barry, go under bridges and see so many sane people, mothers included, with their kids sleeping there. This is a failed country. Africa in general is a failed continent. I'm not proud to call myself a Nigerian. And if you are, I wonder what about Nigeria makes you proud. Let's call a spade a spade.

At least it took a deadly pandemic to make the Americans homeless. On Nigeria's best days, her citizens are still homeless and suffering from poverty. You see where I'm going with this?

Oga why shouldn’t he evade tax ?

Pay tax in USA and you see it with good roads and a system that is working, pay tax in Nigeria and you just got another minister richer.

And those expatriates will definitely love Nigeria cause of the preferential treatment they get for being White, Trust me you won’t get that treatment if you leave your state and move to another state to work in this same Nigeria.

The truth is that Nigeria is a bad place, a very bad place especially for Nigerians and we need to start seeing it for what it is and stop lying to ourselves abeg.
You took the words right out of my mouth. Nigeria is a useless place. Argue with your politicians!!!

Not this again. It always causes a massive fight. Are you in the country? Why not take a walk to your bank? I invest does not pay dividends till the very end of the tenure.
Or email your account officer. Yesterday I had to email my account officer to cancel some treasury bills to convert to dollars due to fear of devaluation. Within 20 minutes I got an alert. I was shocked. #GTB

Let's turn this around? Would a man do this? Why is a woman being expected to do it?
I dont get it. We have brains and bleed red just like men do. Why treat women differently? #shrugs

It depends on if we are running a joint ownership of everything. I would expect to be in on his properties as well.
Just ignore the brainless men on this forum. I mean, why would any sensible person be even asking that question whether in his mind, dreams, or out loud, if a woman should hand over ownership of her property to her husband? Did you hear yourself? (shocked). From now on I'll take the advice of a lady I respect on this thread: ignore all these men without brains.

A woman that has been good and supportive deserves a part of the will even if she chooses to remarry. She definetly would have made sacrificies for the man to acquire such properties by way of delayed gratification... etc. I would never put such clauses. Let us not encourage such acts.

I love my wife and even if she chooses to remarry after I am gone I will only wish for her a happy life with the new man and not take away from her what she had also contributed by way of delayed gratifcation etc. A good wife will honour you even in death.

A lot of men remarry when they lose their wives (inheriting their wives possessions without a will) so why should it be different for women.....
Anthony, your mother trained you well.

Emphasis on the bolded, your own words. Next time don't generalize all women. Not all women are like your late mother or the women in your family. Oh and fyi you referred to my own mother first (and the entire strong successful women in my family) when you generalized all women.

Yes. The Canadian government is actually more generous. Qualified people laid off due to Covid would get $2k for 4months from the federal gov. Provincial governments also have I believe one time payments from around $800 to $1200. I believe they are topping up child benefits parents too.
Over 1.6m people have already applied for EI just last week. The $2k is to prevent people from overwhelming the EI application system in place. The system wasn't built for an enormous amount of job loss.
2k per month o. Before they come after your head lol

Grocery stores need to replenish their stocks, posts needs to get delivered, equipment needs to be transported from coast to coast etc. Somebody's got to do it. I believe delivery drivers minimize their risk by being in the know of weather and road conditions.

Every job as it's own risks. To some it's working in an high voltage environment (I use to do this and driving was the least of my worries despite hitting black ice twice in my official F150 ford, one of which I ended in the ditch). Some work in an infectious disease, ICU or emergency units in hospitals, even policemen, law enforcements, factory workers etc all have risks etc. Those who take on trucking/delivery jobs must have given the idea a good thought as well. I can't really speak for them.

And the country needs soldiers to fight boko haram to keep you safe but you no wan join army, so what's your point? Shift go one side abeg lol tongue

Truck driving jobs are not hard to find. You would however need a class 1 license which can cost upwards of $5000 (extensive training and licensing) to obtain one. It's an hard job though. Sitting down for hours and long-distance travels.
I would not recommend this job or any driving job for that matter to anyone, unless you are driving just in the summer. Driving any other time is not safe cause of slippery roads during bad weather. Money is good but not at the expense of risking my life (look up statistics on car accidents and related deaths). Unless I'm driving to work (which is scary cause your car can just step on black ice from no where and bam you are lucky if you lose just the car and not your life), I am not driving.

I live 8 minutes walk away from one job so I take the bus. The other job which is half hour drive away, I drive cause I have no choice (buses don't go there). My point is, find another job that would pay you rather than risking your life every day on the road.

Absolutely unrealistic. Most people here give false information to people back home. Do I believe the 100k stuff..... absolutely NO but I am not here to argue with these young fellows.

I know the savings is unrealistic too because how many people can even save even 10k with that kind of salary

I saved 19,000 Canadian Dollars in 8 months working minimum wage jobs, before gladfully I got out of minimum wage jobs. But that's not the point. The point here is that even if you work 80 hours weekly, 7 days a week for one year, which is kinda impossible cause body no be wood, at the rate of $16, you WILL NOT make 100,000 that year. Let's do the maths. 80 hours (1 week) times16 dollars is1,280 dollars. Times that by 52 week. That is 66,560, mind you that is before taxes. To the OP of this thread, I get that you want to motivate people and honestly I've devoted my spare time to reading your thread believing in you until I saw the crap about making 100,000 in a year. Please don't come here exaggerating big figures; I hope you were exaggerating, other wise you just think the people on Nairaland are stupid cause we are Nigerians.

WRONG. I've been around the world, and I know what I can buy with 10 dollars in the US. I also know what I can buy with 7,000 naira in Lagos. Just like I know a bottle of water (value) cost at least 1Euro in France and less than 0.3Euro in naija.

Most of these things don't add up. It is actually not meant too for the average African. The average African doesnt concern himself with "the game of thrones".

These exchange rate gives the powers that be the opportunity to buy our resources cheaper. Ideally it should not affect value locally. But since the powers that be have agreed to ensure that things of value to Africans are not available locally and our leaders have accepted, we will continue to have a false understanding of exchange rate.

Think, how does exchange rate affect the price of Garri in Ijebu, the cost of portable water. The price of rice in Kebbi, etc. If we had enough refineries, the impact of exchange rate will not reach even fuel.

Ask yourself, why was the US pissed, when China by themselves devalued their currency. These same western countries are always happy when Africans devalue theirs. This is because if what you sell, cost more more than what t you buy as a country, devaluing your currency will make your citizens richer. That was why when US raised the tariffs on Chinese goods, China in return devalued their currency (this angered US), meaning China will earn more money for everything they sell internationally. This is because the value of the Yuan remained the same locally. And now, they will get more Yaun for every dollar earned.
I can't skip this comment. This is the smartest thing I've ever read on nairaland

Thanks for your advise, the part of the world where i live is very good in agribusiness and i am willing to learn here on the best way to do it, i actually have a cousin in Nigeria who is into it but in a small scale with about 5000 fishes, he said the business is so lucrative and have explained to me a bit how they do it, infact the profit margin he quoted was something insane that made me thinking if it is right to go into it while in Nigeria as i have lived most of my life abroad and planning to relocate to Nigeria soonest.
Be very careful not to send a dime to your cousin for this business else it would end in premium tears.

Job and savings. Was an accountant in Nigeria and a super saver
If there's any place you can save well, I can vouch for Canada. When I started my savings journey I had maybe 2 dollars in my bank account. Within 8 months I saved up $19,000 working minimum wage jobs round the clock. After getting out of minimum wage jobs my savings doubled and right now I'm on a saving spree saving at least between 70 and 80% of my bi weekly earnings. You can make it here if you're determined. The government would even give you a certain amount of monthly income for each kid till they turn 18, plus free education until university level so you cannot say it's the children that is stopping your progress. With all respect to all members and contributors to this thread, this idiot I'm quoting is a very stupid fellow. I'm not insulting him, but his actions fit the dictionary definition of stupidity. So, it's a compliment to him.

If a Muslim man decides to take an additional lady with a view to marriage, how is that unfaithfulness? Did he make a vow of monogamy or does his religion prohibit polygamy? You stupid boy without manners, it is your father in Ebonyi that is a dog, not us here.

Meanwhile, this stupid criminal defending monogamy from his myopic sense of reasoning thinking he's doing right was recently justifying defrauding the Central Bank by diverting Agric loans to other ventures. It seems commonsense is your mortal enemy.

I suggest you seriously behave yourself here and don't think that because some would overlook your stupidity, others would pamper you. Who the bleep do you think you are? Are you feeding anyone here? I suggest you donate your unsolicited advice to your elders at home.
I'm glad you took the time to go through my previous comments. I don't have that kind of time to do same for you. I have said what I said.

Oh and by the way, my elders at home are the ones running Ebonyi. Look up the name Umahi. Down to my youngest uncle who is not even in politics, everyone moves with at least one police escort (now that is affluence). What are your own elders doing? Selling palm oil?

I said what I said.
