Hi, This Kizyte's thread on growing tomatoes is pretty much self explanatory with many pictures to inspire you too. Just follow it. For green beans, Its the easiest thing really. I just put the beans in the ground (or in a big flower pot, as i have a very small backyard space). Ensure you drill some holes at the bottom of the pot to drain out excess water in case plants get waterlogged by rain or watering. My potting sand consisted of normal planting sand mixed with pig droppings which i got from the farm. Any good manure mixed into the sand will do. Or good planting sand without manure also works. Once they germinate, put some stakes into the pot (3-4 stakes in a triangle or square formation. I used palm tree stalks). Use twine to connect the stake formation on more than one level to give the beans many anchor points to climb and hang on to as they grow. As they grow, you just ensure that you guide them to climb around the twine connections you made. Also ensure that you: 1- water them twice daily; 2- put your plant in a place where they can access sunlight for at least 6 hours. I find that the advantage of having my plants in a pot is that i can carry them around to good sources of sunlight even though temporarily. Thats basically it really. The plant pretty much grows itself. yeancahwunmi: Good a.m, could you please help with step by step guide on how to plant green beans or any other as we have here? |

Thanks for feedback. Mine are about 2ft tall and like rose bushes. I staked them in the pot too. I bought mostly indeterminate and semi determinate varieties for mine. I also think your idea of providing water and sunlight sources during dry season is genius and will prolong the life of the plant. Yours are too gorgeous, do everything to ensure that they don't become "one-season wonders"! I'm following your thread. Please continue to inspire us with progress pictures. Also if you like to eat them, you can consider planting green beans next for fried rice and salads. I have those too.and took only about 45 days from seed in the ground to produce plentiful and succulent green beans which i use in my kitchen to cook everything from jollof rice to fried rice to spaghetti and even yam dishes. Kizyte: Thanks for your comment! Seller did not specify whether seed is determinate or indeterminate, see screenshot below. But I'll make water available to plant during dry season and see what happens next.
Tomatoes are about 3ft5 (not measured) and still growing. |

Kizyte, I salute what you're doing. I stumbled on this thread because i also planted tomatoes 2 months back and was looking for inspiration. I dont have much of a backyard so i planted them in large plastic flowerpots and they are doing very well. Also flowering and fruiting right now. My only challenge is that when transplanting, i put 2-3 plants in one pot because they were so small at the time and i didn't think they'd grow so large. And now i have large tomato bushes rather than spread out plants like yours (had i known to put one plant per pot). But its all good. I only hope they're not fighting for nutrients in the pot... Time will tell! I also didn't fumigate because id like to grow mine fully organic and pesticide/chemical free and see where it takes me. If they suffer too much from pests, then i may consider fumigation in my next batch. I'd like to ask though: 1- Your tomatoes are gorgeous and doing so well! Are they determinate or indeterminate? Determinate tomatoes are one season tomatoes, and tend to die off after producing the first set of fruits. Indeterminate varieties keep fruiting after the first set of fruits. 2- How tall are they right now? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Kizyte: 9th August: Level 4/5 stakes in progress

Hi, Your comment is valid and got me thinking. Here are my thoughts: This thing we call "Nigerian tomato" may not really be Nigerian! When i went to Malaysia a couple of years ago, an indigene there was so pleased to meet me. When he heard i was Nigerian, he took time out to meet me and tell me about how Malaysia came to Nigeria over 30 plus years ago to collect our Oil palm, rubber and corn seedlings to grow in their country. Those Nigerian seedlings in Malaysia have become their foremost means of livelihood. Im told they are the biggest exporter of palm oil and produce in the world today. I can imagine the younger generation of Malaysians would think that the oil palm is Malaysian Oil palm because they have no idea of the history behind it! As for me, i'm all for picking the good from anywhere in the world (including seeds) and bringing it home to propagate. Afterall we copy clothing styles, make up, hairstyles, building plans, interior decoration, etc. So why not seeds and plants? This is only my opinion oh. I'm not trying to change your mind. We are all free to have our opinions. Have a great day! fabianiweka: nigerians with there mumu now tell me you bought tomato seed for 0.50 dollars it was ship to you. haba hundred seed when tomato grow at the back of my house without any care and they ve good seed and healthy will you still planet tomato now dat is #200 per basket. make Nigeria proud by cultivating Nigeria tomato. |

Hello house, Just to thank you all for the wonderful information passing through this thread. I have benefitted a great deal. And so in the spirit of giving back in the spirit of paying it forward , here goes: Greetings from sunny Los Angeles again! I arrived on AirFrance today August 19th. I was unable to get PTA after all the promises from my various account officers. I also followed the lead on First Bank, and didn't get. So my ever loving DH (my own personal blessing!) bought me 5k from the BM at 396/$ The man was always baffled why i was chasing every banker around town for cheap PTA. Even when i told him i'm trying to save him at least N300k, he said theres no such thing, and that this journey must happen... And that we should just pray for life and health and the grace to always be ahead of this Nigerian economy. I was fuming at the extra cost but thankful for the privilege of being able to afford it even at the cutthroat price. Let's say a prayer for these great men in our lives. They give us strength and encouragement per second. But i digress...! Back to the matter... AF asked for fit to fly, which i provided. They didn't even glance at it, but added it to my docs. NDLEA stopped me for questioning, asking me where i was going and for what. Childbirth of course in the US. Stop me if you can! Currency control also stopped me for questioning. Where to and for what? I dey go America to born eeehhh! Abi dem send una? How much are you carrying? I told them up to the last dollar. Where do you work? I told them. They joked about my stomach being so big and that they believed i will come back with triplets! Na true. And we were off! Plane was okay. Service was a bit crappy, but hey! I didnt come to live on the plane did i? Paris transit okay, journey to LAX was also uneventful. LAX: For the first time i booked a wheelchair, just in case. I was transported from plane door to immigration hall. But told to wait another 30mins for a wheelchair to take me to CBP. So i told the lady that i could manage if i could be expedited on foot to the self service kiosk and to CBP. They obliged. Finished at self service kiosk and then got expedited to front of the line for CBP My transcript: CBP: hello (skinny preppy and boyish looking guy of Asian descent with nerd glasses, with a stern face!. I'm like, "Dear Holy Spirit, i know say your mind dey here. Oya do your thing!) Me: Hi CBP: what are you here for? Me: Childbirth CBP: How long will you be staying? Me: 9 weeks CBP: Why so long? Me: because of the childbirth. CBP: huh? (Apparently didn't hear the first time i said it!!) Me: Childbirth, childbirth, as in having my baby. CBP: Oh! How much do you have on you? Me: about $5k and bank cards to support me. Proceeded to look through my passport and all the visas and stamps therein. Caught sight of the entry stamp from May where i was stamped in till November, rubbed his finger over it and then: CBP: How long did you stay on your last visit? Me: 2 weeks, that was in May this year. CBP: Do you have family here? Me: No, just friends, who i will be staying with. CBP: keeps looking through the passport, drops it, picks it up again. I could sense him hesitating. Me i'm like "Dear Holy Spirit, e be like say the cellotape wey you take cover this guy mouth need reinforcement oh. Abeg nack am anoda layer. CBP: shrugs his shoulder, picks up his stamp and stamps me in till February 2017 (my visa expires January 2017) Time spent with him: about 3-4minutes. Off to pick my bags. All came out in good condition. Next was the one they call exit control (that would be Customs, in Nigeria) CBP: you got food? Me: yes. Dried fish, crayfish, stockfish, gala, leaves such as utazi, uziza & nchanwu, ukwa, akidi, cashews, peanuts. All been declared on the form. CBP: scans through the form then says. Grreat! Thats okay, you're good to go. Me: Thanks, and have a nice day! And i walked out. My heavy dossier of "burden of proof" was chilling in my bag and wasn't needed. Got home, took a long shower, ate, and jumped into bed to sleep it all off. My apologies for the long post. For those who are coming behind me, (Veleta? And others) May our Almighty God who has the keys to all the countries of this world send his angels to encamp around you as you pass. You will Never be turned back but be stamped in without hassles. Smooth sailing all the way in Jesus mighty name! Amen. |

Mzmobolanle: hi guys, Pls I need answers asap, Sumone loving n sweet should Pls reply me if U have answer to my question, I googled ds3053 since my Dh won't be going with me, but the expiring date on the form is 30th of this month! n I'll be using it like September by God's grace, now the question is : am I to use it like that ? or do they update after it has expired? i really don't have enough background knowledge on this notary ish, Pls Sumone should clear me Ok, my take on this: I noticed it on my form too and decided to do my own research on Google. OK, here's what I found on the web ( I hope you can see it below ). Its not a response from the immigration guys, but seems like a response from a random person/ popular opinion My decision: Print the form as is and get it notarised... Carry it along. 1- If I get there and its still usable (i.e., same old form is still on the website/ form not yet updated by .gov, or passport office has no issues with the expiry date, great! I use it to process my docs!. 2- If there are issues/ a new form has been put on the web, then I ask DH to print the latest form, notarise and send to me via FedEx/DHL.

Thanks dear. This was very helpful. KayLayChi: I had my baby in August 2015 in CA and I had my consent form notarised before travelling. The form wasn't dated and I scanned the form to the Lawyer after it was completed as requested by him to update his records. |

Distinguished and Eminent TownHall Folks,
Please can you help me with this. This would be my first time flying solo for a missionary journey #BlameItOnTheDollar
US passport issuance requires notarised consent from baby daddy if he's not available at time of passport request. My questions are specific to birthing in LA:
1- is the notarised consent letter just any letter by hubby on A4 paper and signed+sealed by a lawyer or is it the DS3053 form completed by hubby and notarised by a lawyer? 2- if done using above method (notary public of my choice), is that acceptable in LA? Or must it be the DS3053 notarised at the embassy? 3- what is meant by Notary public? Is it my personal lawyer? Or going to court to sign (like when one goes for an affidavit, etc)...

Preach!!! Condescending? Naaah! Word? Yes! Even when decorating cupcakes, if you work on too many at once it turns out to be a sloppy job, no matter how talented you are... Not to talk of human life/ health issues... God help us all. nefertitiram: Hold up!
Sorry for your bad experience. I'm also not his fan but we should understand he is a human being. He cannot divide himself na.
People come to Nairaland with no idea where to start from. The first think they see is Dr.F, houston and stop the research there and run with it. They contact him and he accepts, who doesn't like the cash? Both active and ghost members. What do we expect the man to do? How do we know if there are cheaper hosps out there if we don't rsearch?
If you check this entire thread you will see "who else is going to houston, I'm using Dr F, I'm using Dr F, ' somebody will manage to research another Doc, then they flood there, I'm using Dr.Dre, Dr. Who, Dr. Doolittle. No one wants to take the extra mile.
I think it's a lazy approach and the more we don't wanna work hard for our health, the more the strength of these doctors will fail us.
I used to blame Dr.F before but now, I just blame the herd mentality.
Lemme apologize in advanced if I sound condescending. |

Shwepps?!?! #NoRespectForPregnantWoman Pele dear. It is well jor. I reject every delay or attempted attempt to delay and frazzle me in Jesus name! It will end in praise jor! ezigbozi: Hello good people of NL. Here’s my travel experience, started my journey on the 22/07/16 my flight was originally to depart from Lagos by 8:30pm,22/07/16. Lagos-Dubai-Houston I was advised again that my flight itinerary had been changed and Frankfort had now been added to my trip. (Lagos-Abj-Dubai-Frankfort-Houston). I was pure ragging and asked 'which kind Israelite journey be this now'? I arrived in Abj 8:14am 22/07/16, apparently Emirates had moved the flight again from 6:35pm to 11:45pm so that implied that I was going to arrive in Houston on the 24th instead of the 23rd. They said there was no fuel in Abuja . Unfortunately my aunt in Abj was out of town so I had to wait at the Abj airport for over 12 hrs. Arrived at Frankfort and the final trip was to be with United Airlines, unknown to me I was busy searching for an Emirates desk. I finally checked the flight schedule board using my flight number and realized the final leg was with United Airlines and then I waited by the board for another 4hrs to confirm my gate number ,thankfully there was a bench close by. When the gate number finally popped up I immediately proceeded to the gate, getting there I meet this elderly flight attendant of United Airlines (Male) who started interrogating me. FA: Why are you going to Houston? Me: To have my Baby FA: Do you have a travel certificate? Me: Yes I do, (pulled out my fit to fly letter and handed it over) FA: It has no date and stamp, why? ME: It has a date ( I showed him the date and totally ignored the stamp question, mamas still planning, you might wanna get yours stamped just in case) FA: What do you do? ME: I work with XYZ in Nigeria ( pulled out my Work ID and showed him) FA: What does your husband do? ME: I replied him FA: Did you pack your bags yourself and do all its contents belong to u? ME: Yes FA: Is this your first baby? ME: No FA: where is the first? ME: Back home with my husband couldn't bring him he would have been a handful, but will be joining me with my husband next month ( started getting tired of the questions, I never reach US the over zealous Oga dey bombard me with questions) FA: Okay please hold on here ( points to a seat for me to wait and then moments later he returns with an American accent guy and introduces him as a US consulate representative) UCR: Where did you have your first child? ME: In the US as well. UCR: How much did it cost you? ME: I replied him and mentioned that I had the zero receipts with me UCR: Do you have a correspondence with the Hospital/Doctor you intend to use in Houston? ME: Yes (Thank God for this thread I had read up something like this before, so I came prepared. I handed over copies of emails exchanged btwn the Doctor and I as well as bill estimate of the Doctor, hospital and pediatrician.) UCR: How much do you have with you ME: $5,000 in cash and the rest on my card UCR: what Is the total hospital cost? ME: A little over $5000 (He turned to the over efficient FA and told him that I had been able to defend my travel purpose BLA BLA BLA….) The elderly FA took me to another FA (younger) who told that I had been selected for special security check and showed me a spot to meet with him among others for the check. Moments after we proceeded for the special check ,It wasn't just me to be checked though, a mixture of nationalities (Some of them were boiling) . They took our boarding passes from us , we all stood in a line (I was asked to seat while waiting for my turn) they asked us to switch on all tabs and laptops before it gets to our turn and mentioned that If the battery is dead hey have chargers for all brands (as annoyed and stressed as I was, that cracked me up. lol) It finally got to my turn and the frantic search commenced ,(Hair, blouse, bump, trouser and my slippers). We were given back our boarding passes and of cos with all that random search the flight delayed again. I slept almost all through the frankfort flight I was so knackered. |

Meanwhile, they were just issuing blue paper to people today, even families going on vacation and those going for conference. I however observed that they gave visa to alot of elderly people.
Soo happy that a friend directed me to Nairaland and thank you great people for helping me out in this uphill task. Hoping to hear more good news. |

Nef Nef! Pls, we highly respect your decision jor! Abeg, all the ushers in the house, you people should go and stand behind her oh... I know by the time Holy Spirit decides to move her now, she will fall yakata on the ground! Somebody should also carry tape recorder in case she starts quoting the parts and pages! nefertitiram: .
God will put it in my heart to help who genuinely needs help. If I am not moved by the spirit, then nothing will move me.
Maybe I should put auto response, 'thanks for your email Nef will not respond except she has heard from the Spirit on your case. The Spirit is available for consultation 24hrs a day 7 days a week. While waiting for Nef's response, please go through part 1 to part 4 of the US birthing thread. If it's about cheap tickets... please consult the airline office nearest to you! Thank you and have a nice day" |
