Politics / Re: If Pdp Win In Lagos Yoruba Will Lose Lagos To Igbo! by noalistic(m): 3:42am On Nov 11, 2017
Exclusive32:
Lagos is in Yoruba land = Yoruba own Lagos no doubt. my problem is the ways and manners all Yoruba's I see and know down here claiming to be from Lagos. They can never tell you if they are from osun , ekiti or Oyo, what you will hear from them is my family house is in ajekule. if all Yoruba are claiming to come from Lagos, then who then is from this other part of Yoruba. I am from bayelsa but I never in my life told every tom ,dick and harry that I m from PH despite the fact that bayelsa was extract from pH.
Every Yoruba is from Yorubaland. Be it Lagos, Abeokuta, Kabba, Ilaje, Port Novo, Ilorin etc, any Yoruba can claim it. They are indifferent abt that. One Yorubaland
Education / Re: OAU Vs UI, Which Is The Best? by noalistic(m): 3:02am On Nov 11, 2017
bayooooooo:
I don't know enough about OAU to make an informed comparison between the two.
A lot of comments are just long-held perceptions. But since I graduated from UI, I would just summarize those things I liked while I was there:

1. I did not buy hand-outs. As a matter of fact, UI had perhaps still has a policy against selling of hand-outs. Typically, I took notes in class and then went to Kenneth Dike library to write detailed notes using good textbooks. I used to hear stories of mark for handouts in other universities etc, but it never happened in UI or I did not witness it.

2. I never took a class that was taught by one lecturer; the least was two. In my first year in UI, six lecturers taught CHE 157, four of which were professors. Infact, at the end of my first year, I was taught by twenty one professors. The point I am making is, it is difficult to influence grades in UI. You would have to bribe so many professors or lecturers to do achieve that. Plus, experts tend to teach classes to the benefit of students. Since each lecturer would write at least a question, it could be daunting taking a class taught by six teachers. In some universities, you would not be taught by professors except in your final year.

3. UI exams are pretty well structured and competently administered. Never for once did I hear of any leak. Plus, exams results were promptly displayed at the end of each semester. It's extremely rare for a script to get lost or something. And at the beginning of each session, a copy of your transcript is needed to register. It is always a big surprise to me when people from other schools discover carry overs from 100 level that they didn't know until final year.

4.Lecturer to student ratio is good. There are departments where you have just twenty students (in each level) and lecturers know each by the first name. UI does not admit beyond its carrying capacity. You learn more, bond more and have room to ask questions. This factor explains why UI graduates always get mobilized for NYSC immediately after graduation.

5. Accommodation is good. In my first year, we were three in a room( Mellanby hall). In final year, only two students were in a room (D block). Electricity was stable. I remember people laughing at me when I brought stove and lantern in 100 Level. I did use the stove two or three times, but there was no need for it. Plus, each hall has a reading room which I used to my benefit. There is a common room where we watched premiership matches on Saturdays and Sundays, and movies on weekdays.

6. UI is fairly well secured. I used to go to the social sciences, faculty of agriculture or law to read at night, and would not be back to my room until 3am. You see people around, reading with their girlfriends etc. I was never for once afraid or threatened walking at night in UI. Cultism was not that pronounced, we heard about cult crises at Ibadan poly almost on weekly basis but had no impact on UI.

7. Social life is good for the what's up type. I participated in faculty politics and was into many clubs on campus. Off campus, there is a lot to explore in Ibadan. Plus, UI shares boundary with Ibadan Poly. We used to go there to bring girls.

8. Facilities were aging but still manageable. There was just one ASUU warning strike of about one or two weeks throughout my studies. There were more postgraduate students than undergraduates in my department. Fees were reasonable. In my first year, I paid 12005 plus about 2000 at the department and faculty level. Subsequent years, I paid in total about the same fees, accommodation included. Without accommodation, 4500 or thereabout for the whole session.

9.The quality of students was extremely high, almost every good student was a local champion in their respective secondary schools and the competition was real and intense. UI is a school where if you study smart and hard, you get good grades. No influence, nothing. Plus, if you don't put in the efforts and your CGPA fall below a certain value, you're asked to leave. UI publishes a tsunami list every session where students who can't cope are asked to leave. I put in the efforts and graduated with a first class honours and on top of my faculty. Many of my friends graduated with first class too. All tales of wicked lecturer from other universities were not applicable; there were hard classes with just one or two people having A but on the whole it was a great experience for me.

10. So, in things that matter like school reputation, UI is good. Academic, research and scholastic achievements: UI, as far as Nigeria is concerned, is excellent. Infact, UI is virtually a postgraduate university and you can't become one if your academic and research reputation is sub-par. Facilities: also within Nigeria, UI is still good. Quality of students: UI competes with a handful of schools for the best students Nigeria has on offer.

11. In humanities, I don't think any school in Nigeria can outperform UI in history, comparative literature, language and communication arts, linguistics etc. The same is true of core social sciences like political science, geography and economics. No school in Nigeria can easily edge out UI in core sciences like chemistry, physics and mathematics. UI's geology is also highly rated. In health sciences, UI's medicine, pharmacy and physiotherapy are highly regarded. UI engineering is good and competitive but I don't expect it to be on the same par with specialties school like FUTA et al.
Wow, My brother. You stun me with your comment. It is exactly my thought and it is completely and perfectly true. Am a proud biochemistry graduate of UI myself and I confirm all you have said. All these make UI the best Uni in Nigeria. Despite my difficult times in Biochemistry, I will always love and respect UI. That school is the only 7 star ( just as they use 7 point grading system) Uni in the country. I was taught by a minimum of 2 lectures in all my courses from 100 to 400 levels

all this grammar yet you didn’t make an atom of sense.

Go thru nairaland politics section and tell me all the topics opened by Afonjas regarding the igbos..

That is the real definition of obsession.

If you like praise yourselves till kingdom come...everyone knows the truth.

Better keep your rent money for your igbo landlord and stop making noise here
I should keep my rent money for my Igbo Landlord? Never. We have houses in the city u lots wish it were urs and u keep on masturbating over it. The Afonjas will always be the biggest landlords in the SW including Lagos. I know u are typing from ur rural and unfruitful enclave so u don't know anything abt the SW except you just wanna chest beat as usual

I don't expect to make sense to a bigoted and myopic person like u. I have been on nairaland for years and I can categorically tell u, u lots started this hatefilled speeches against the Afonjas as u fondly call them. You know u can never better the Afonjas in anything if they really wanna go into it so they are only retaliating now but in a more detailed and brutal way. The Afonjas can do without u but u can't do without them which is shown in ur addiction to an Afonja owned Forum

every igbo is beautiful...

Wch is why the Afonjas are forever jealous
Wetin concern Afonja for there now. You guys are the ones who are jealous of the Afonjas, always comparing. That's called Inferiority Complex. I understand that the Afonjas are your standard but you can never and you will never surpass them in every sphere of life. It is normal for the Afonjas to top in Nigeria and Africa, that's why they don't chest beat when their successes are seen. Their mentality is if it is not us, who will. They always have many people dominating every area of life before other Nigerians and Africans start showing up but they don't brag. They are silent achievers and that's why God keeps on rewarding and placing them ahead. He resists the proud. Afonjas are the most genuinely successful, advanced and achieved African tribe. Be humble to admit that so that God can uplift your tribe too

The oil producing part of ondo state is Ilaje which is a Yoruba speaking and not Ijaw speaking. The oil in this local govt is abt 3% of the oil in the country more than abia, Imo and anambra combined

U guys are just myopic. So the petty Igbo traders and prostitutes in Lagos need an airport or seaport abi. Just accept that the East is cursed and not viable. If u want a seaport or airport in the east, put it there. The east will be built by the easterners

they are not Yoruba either, I've forgotten their tribes. I've lived in Kiama LG before, the indigenes are not Yoruba too.
There are 16 local government areas in Kwara. 12 are Yoruba speaking, 2 which are edu and patigi are Nupe speaking while the remaining 2 which are kaima and baruten are bariba speaking. The last 2 are pretty close to Benin Republic

Politics / Re: Nigeria Break Up Imminent, Oduduwa Republic Inevitable - Bayo Oluwasanmi by noalistic(m): 3:04pm On Feb 23, 2017
gartamanta:
If Yorubas couldnt declare Oduduwa in 1967, they will never have the backbone to do it again.

There are many things that happened in that era that should have encouraged Yorubas to seek self determination, but they didnt

1) The Northerners went to Ibadan and killed the Governor of the Western Region, Lt Colonel Fajuyi. This singular act of sacrilege on Yoruba soil, to such a highly placed Yoruba son should have been the final straw for Yorubas. They should have risen up against the excesses of the North along with the Igbos, but they did nothing. When the Northerners realised that Yorubas had no fight in them, it emboldend them to do much worse.

2) Brigadier Ogundipe officially became 'acting head' of state with the disappearance of Ironsi. He should have been confirmed head of state with confirmation of Ironsi's death as the highest ranking military officer after Ironsi (Ogundipe was the only Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army at the time). The Northerners drove Ogundipe out of Lagos, Yoruba land, and banished him to London where he was summarily retired. Again, the Yoruba nation should have risen up in defence of their land and son. They did nothing. Today, if Igbos call Lagos 'no mans land', the average Yoruba man will be offended. But when Brigadier Ogundipe was been harrased out of Lagos by the North, no Yoruba man said a word.

3) Colonel Adebayor replaced Fajuyi as Governor of the western Region. Adebayor never slept in Government House because he was afraid that the Northerners would come and slaughter him like they did Fajuyi.

Yorubas were held hostage in their own land. 20 years later, the Northerners kidnapped and slaughtered MKO Abiola. As usual, nothing happend.

I laugh when Yorubas talk about Oduduwa Republic, I dont think they realise that it takes more than 'mere talking' to achieve independence.
U are such a big fool. What happened when an Igbo coup led to the death of the Head of state, Premiers of the northern and western region, sparing the president and the premier of eastern region? Ur stupid selves went ahead to mock the northerners in their land displaying offensive cartoons of how their premier was brutally killed and u expected them to fold their hands and smile and hug u.U think they are as friendly as the Yorubas. Then ur myopic and selfish Ojukwu who u guys claim had foresight wanted to lead u guys outta Nigeria when they had prevented the Ijaws from breaking out of the eastern region. Well, i suppose that was a fight between the East and North and the Yorubas were neutral until Ojukwu tried to invade Lagos which was the capital but still Yorubaland. They were stopped at Ore and more Yoruba soilders (Black scorpion- the igbo nightmare, OBJ etc) got involved because yorubaland needed to be protected. Awolowo ended a 2 and the half war with just a statement. That shows how intellectually brutal yorubas can be. Nigeria owes the Igbo nothing in fact they should apologize to the yorubas for their evil plans against them and thank them for playing a fatherly role in integrating them back into the country via 20 pounds and returning their properties
