Well...the issue is nobody is under-playing anything. People are just genuinely concerned with the apparent coincidence...when there is still the heat generated by her apparent indiscretion of by-passing the extant rules guiding public procurements.

-Noted then!

"Apparent coincidence"! This, most times occur without our consent nor permission.
They are those "Wills", we mortals can't determine.

Do you mean to tell me that the Minister under imminent threat to her life, has no discretion to
purchase that which shall be for the protection of her life in the PPA?
What is indiscretion about purchasing a bullet proof car to safe guard her life from a bunch of "cruel retrograde"...

I marvel at the manner some Nigerians condescend very delicate and important matter to a "mere joker";
attaching unverified reports and fictions to matters of seriousness.

That the Minister's life was threatened and an attempt made, is a thing to worry about.
Let's drift from this brandishing of loyal-sympathy to a clan and embrace an unbiased policy, driven to change
the state of governance.

We should worry more on how to profer solutions to curbing the state of insecurity and hunt for those looting the nation,
than throw tantrums at the innocent.

Contrary to your "performers in bed" and your "performing mistresses", a myopic conclusion

with due respect has been able to command and execute change in the aviation industry.

Dannylux: The idea of free and fair election in Nigeria is merely an utopic idea. After all is said and done, your vote wouldn't still count!
My brother, lack of knowledge makes a man limited... The issue of a free and fair election must first start from the electorates, who will devote time to wait at the polling units after casting their votes to making sure that the polling officers, do not manipulate the vote in their absence.
It is only when we allow the conspiracy of rigging the election to come to pass that the utopic principle may then be evoked.

Your teachers should go back to classes when they are being owned years of allowances.
Nonsense.

I support NANS on this one. What is ASUU's problem? They want FG to pay them 800B? From where? From which budget?
The total annual budget is 4.9 trillion. Education got the single highest allocation of 45Ob(this is given that security is divided into defence,SSS, POLICE etc). The allocation to Education is the highest of all time and represents a tenth of the budget.

Apart from that, GEJ has released additional 100B For infrastructure and 30B for ASUU Allowances. That should be sufficient for now while stakeholders work towards evolving alternative options for permament university funding in Nigeria

Sincere 9gerian: ACN and its spokesperson hav lost it COMPLETELY. Does it mean the ACN cannot set aside partisan politics for one second? Must the ACN politicise every and anything?
Smh!

This same good governance tour was in Imo (APGA), Anambra (APGA) and Nasarawa (CPC). Their visit to Imo was particularly interesting because Rochas Okorocha used some of the things that was said (including what Maku said) during the visit to run TV commercials for some weeks. What then is the problem with ACN and Lai Muhammed?

All the while, I'v been non-challant towards political parties but the ACN is making me HATE the party. I dont like the PDP nor any of the other political parties but the ACN is beginning to disgust me.

Puntae: It is now obvious that we ve totally lost touch of morality and constructive criticism, we now choose to employ the principles of subtle insult and loquacious criticism thereby murdering the essence of debating an issue. I wonder what message we seek to pass to the people on the podium of battering one another just to clarify issues. Are we now holier than the characters we criticise or praise?

On both ends, picking out a few constructive submissions; you have made vital submissions and indeed deliberated on relevant issues. Whether Maku is or is not the best Information Minister, is inconsequential, what is relevant indeed is the fact which defines his been 'best' or not.

Truth be told and lets a spade be a spade and without prejudice, drawing from the pleatorial of the uncompromising effort of theHon. Minister, he deserves a credit. His unrelenting attitude towards change is indeed remarkable. Many, but to speak on one, the Good Governance Tour which presently still drives.

Initially, I did not like the tour either. I saw it as a jamboree and unnecessary showmanship but when I saw the revelations from the tour on Nairaland, I picked interest.
I think that was the visit to plateau state. So many projects were on display by Jonah Jang. I never knew that Jang had done that much in that troubled state. I was shocked.
Then I decided to watch the plateau Town hall meeting on NTA. Both Maku and Jang were on hot seat answering questions from the large audience and viewers.
A whole lot of issues were raised ranging from insecurity, basic social amenities, abandoned projects, and the non payment of salaries to local government employees in the state.

I was happy with the way Jang handled the questions with much confidence and humor. Maku also did well. At the end of the day, people left the hall with satisfactory answers and that is the stuff participatory democracy is made of. Since that time, I don't miss it. But for some time now, I have not heard about the tour again.
Yea, the Good Governance Tour was indeed a good idea and truly a revelation to the many activities going on in various states, both the finished ones and the ones in progress.
That of Plateau States, thought most projects were FG's. Jang did a little...most of the state's own projects re even less cared about....

The bolded caught my attention. He deserves commendation for pushing through that bill. I remember the politics that has delayed the formulation and passage of that bill for years.
Severally it was thrown out of the National Assembly and the media was agog with condemnations over the insincerity of government to pass the bill.
It was believed that the bill will usher in accountability and openness in the running of government. This is so because everybody can easily demand to have any information he deems fit about any ministry or department of govt.
I remember that the yaradua administration came under heavy criticsm for playing politics with the freedom of information bill. They were accused of dreading the bill while they moved very fast to accelerate the passage of official secrets Act. The official secrets Act was the direct opposite of FOI. It seeks to hide the very information which the FOI intends to expose.

If Maku came in and the FOI was passed, it's not mere coincidence. It could have been a product of courage and political will to let the FOI see the light of day. I salute him for that
A good submission Maduale... Pin point submission of this nature re worth appreciating so as to expose the Bias to job effort rather than make a blind argument.

Arguably, there will be no sense comparing and contrasting the effort of our Information Ministers be it past or present, reason being that, the fact speaks for itself.
From the days of Gana, to Frank, down to the present Mr. Maku, it is obviously glaring that Mr. Maku being a man of repute and having concern for the growth of the nation, has indeed contributed immensely to the development and sanctity of the nation by employing the principles of transparency in service, competency in job delivery, and a show of an unrelenting doggedness towards a continuous selfless service to the nation.

I wanted to hear that the minister is enmeshed in 50 billion Naira scam or something. But there was nothing like that.
He also left 2012 budget to attack 2011 budget which was obviously prepared by Akunyili as the then information minister.
This is just coc.k and B.ull story

homerac7:

stop drooling. GEJ is almost a far minion on d roll call of d giants dt delivered NIPP. OBJ is over 90% responsible. they r multiyear projects wc he almost fully paid for before his exit - dt explains d mysterious $16bn. others just couldnt stopped it since it was almost fully paid for. so GEJ has little or nothn to do .

Don't say what you don't know. Agreed. Obj started and awarded most of the power plants under NIPP and funded by proceeds from excess crude account.
But it will be most untrue to credit him with 90% completion.
You will recall that in 2007, the house set up a committee to probe the power sector led by Hon Ndudi Elumelu. The committee established massive corruption in the handling of the NIPP power projects. In some cases, it was revealed that 100% payments have been made without any tangible project on ground. So how can you now claim OBJ completed 90%?
In some of the cases, the committee met overgrown weeds in places designated as power stations.

Due to these shocking revelations, Yaradua abandoned the NIPP projects without making alternative arrangements for generation.
It took Jonathan to intervene with his power sector roadmap. The roadmap was anchored on the revival of NIPP projects. Under Barth, the president pursued an aggressive refurbishment and completion of the power plants. This has yielded fruits as generational capacity has hit over 4000 megawatts.
Jonathan did it in less than a year. He deserves all the kudos.
Politics / Re: Obasanjo's Power Plants, Wasteful - Ngige by Nonnyz: 9:49am On Nov 24, 2012
The worst part of it all is that Obasanjo wasted over 100 billion to build some of these power plants and yet it wasn't working till GEJ came on board and completed them.
It took GEJ barely a year to revive 10 abandoned NIPP power plants. Today, they are generating over 4000 megawatts but the impact is limited due to distribution and transmission issues.

To this end, I commend GEJ for the ongoing privatization of PHCN Distribution companies(DISCOS). It is a right step in the right direction.
I also appreciate the restoration of Manitoba's contract for management of TCN. Gradually, we are getting it right.
