This piece of news should be a cause for celebration by every Akwa Ibom person and Nigerian for that matter. instead of this bickering, Akwa Ibom is blessed we have many suitable sites for seaports in fact 12 local Govt in our state can support a seaport ie Ikot Abasi, Eastern obolo to ibeno to mbo, Udung uko. okobo, oron, uruan, itu, eket, onna etc we are surrounded by water and have several sites and i hope with time many more of this sites will be developed. Akwa Ibom state has the longest uninterrupted/continuous coastline in Nigeria. lagos had tin can and apapa port today they are building two more ports in lekki and badagry,Port harcourt has the port harcourt port and onne seaport, I see more seaport in the future of Akwa Ibom. but today we must celebrate not bicker as our first seaport that is slowly drawing close to actualization. @sowell24 take note. |

Politics / Central California Blood Center Donates Bloodmobile To Uyo, Nigeria - Pictures by notobs: 10:18am On Jun 22, 2015 |
The blood center is donating the 40-foot bus equipped with six beds for blood collection to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. In the next few days the bus should be on a flatbed truck for a ride to a Texas port and then placed aboard a ship bound for Nigeria to become the first blood mobile in the African country. The blood center teamed with Rotary International’s Safe Blood Africa Project to donate the bus and contributed $5,000 to help pay for it to be trucked and shipped, which will cost about $14,300. The bus should see many miles of service in Nigeria, says Warren Kaufman, a Rotary Club of Carmel member who set events into motion for the blood mobile donation. The blood mobile will be stationed at the teaching hospital in Uyo, which has a blood bank that Rotary International helped establish about a decade ago, Kaufman says. Until then, when a patient needed a transfusion, a relative was sent outside to find someone willing to sell their blood. Blood typing was inadequate and too often the sellers had hepatitis or AIDS, he says. Two years ago, Kaufman helped coordinate blood donation drives at the hospital that proved successful. “Nigerians will give blood as generously as anyone else if they’re asked professionally to do that.” In February 2013, he arranged for Uyo hospital staff to come to Northern California to be trained on how to use a blood mobile. The only thing that has been missing since is a vehicle. Read more here: http://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article19528707.html#storylink=cpy

Politics / We Are Not Owed Any Salary By Akwa Ibom Govt - Workers Boast by notobs: 9:32pm On Jun 19, 2015 |
Gentlemen of the Press, The Labour movement in the State led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has invited you to this Press Conference this afternoon. The reason behind this Press Conference is a piece of news carried by the network service of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in purport that the Akwa Ibom State Government has not paid the salaries of workers under its employ up to May 2015. Gentlemen, in doing this, Labour is not out to play the Public Relations agent for or hold brief for Government of the State. Far be it from us. Labour is only out to put the records straight in the genuine spirit of honesty, fairness and justice as an honest citizen. Afterall, it is dearly known that if there is any group that can, and must stand up to the Government or the employer on matters that affect the welfare of workers, the welfare of the general public, at any time where government seems to have deviated from its sworn duty to the people, it is Labour. And Labour in this State will never shrink from this sworn duty, come rain or shine. In the same token, Labour is mature, and objective enough to applaud Government whenever it does well, and to rise to the defense of overnment only when it is necessary since Labour is also a citizen of the State. Our reason for doing this is clear. We the workers are the ones who receive or do not receive salaries and other entitlements whenever they are paid or are not paid. Therefore, we are in the best position to speak for ourselves, and for or against those whose duty is to pay us. Let us say emphatically here that workers in the employ of Akwa Ibom State Government have received salaries up to May 2015. Labour therefore views that report as a deliberate attempt at black- mailing the workers of the State, a callous effort to cause dissention among the workers, and a malicious attempt to create discord in the relations between Labour/ workers and the new administration in the State. Labour would have expected those behind that report to have, in the true spirit of ethical journalism and reportage, balanced out their information by cross-checking with especially those who receive, salaries and who understand the difference between salaries and other entitlements. This they did not do. We therefore see that report as an affront. If any person or group of persons have any bones to grind with any person else, or with those in government, labour and the workers of Akwa Ibom State refuse to be dragged into it. Labour is capable of fighting its own cause and can defend itself. It might not need the support or services of anybody or group of persons. We create and help to manage the wealth of the State and we know what to do to hurt those who think we are not important. Our interests most times, are at variance with the interests of the political class and its lackeys. Ours are to ensure the progress and harmonious co-existence in the State. Labour understands the issues the State Government has to sort with the workers. They certainly at this material time, do not include salaries up to May 2015. Labour also understands the issues that Local Government Councils and the organized private sector employers have to sort with that workers, and the role the State Government must play to help bring about industrial peace and harmony. Labour and government are currently relating on these ones. It would be very necessary for people to draw a line between what government is owing and what government is not owing on the one hand, what the constitutional role of each tiers of government is as far as payment of salaries and other benefits is concerned, and of course between salaries and other entitlements. There is therefore no need for people to be confusing issues and using them to generate disharmony. The workers need peace to help ensure the development and progress of the State. We therefore use this opportunity to refute and reject that report in its totality and call on the medium that aired it to, in the interest of good relationship, speedily correct itself. Politics / Like Jonathan, Buhari Has No Political Backbone - Vanguard by notobs: 6:12pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
•I ‘ve worries about Buhari’s govt, not expectations In this interview with Vanguard, renowned poet, novelist and social critic, Odia Ofeimun expresses his worries about the new administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari, and suggests ways to move the country forward. Ofeimun also worked as private secretary to the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo before his death. Excerpts: - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/like-jonathan-buhari-has-no-political-backbone-odia-ofemium/#sthash.zXFZ1Ugs.dpuf Expectations? President Muhammadu Buhari wishes to fight corruption, uphold national security and run an efficient government. Let me be straight out with it: How successful he can get depends on how willing he is to move away from the Greek gifts he is being promised by our so called foreign friends who know but won’t tell that we have all these problems of corruption insecurity and inefficiency in government because Nigeria has not restructured in favour of a common morality for all Nigerians. Only a restructured Nigeria can stand up to foreign wheelers and dealers. Restructuring is not only about North and South struggles. Although it is part of it. It is about national strategy and grand policy making. Let Muhammadu Buhari join Goodluck Jonathan in rejecting the EU’s Economic Partnership Agreement, EPA, and continue to reject foreign soldiers stamping on West African soil, and refuse the wayo Western solution to malaria scourge that Goodluck sidestepped to the annoyance of so called Western friends. And then insist, as no Nigerian government has dared since SAP, on building proper factories to stop the influx of goods, essential commodities that glut our spaces. See who will offer to attend his next anniversary. And that will tell who Nigeria’s friends are. Worries about Buhari’s administration read the interview in full at - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/like-jonathan-buhari-has-no-political-backbone-odia-ofemium/#sthash.zXFZ1Ugs.dpuf |
Politics / Crack In APC Nwc:deputy National Publicity Secretary Calls For Oyegun's Resignat by notobs: 5:12pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
ABUJA- STRONG indications have emerged that a sharp crack exists among the National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC, following a call by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Timi Frank on the party National Chairman, Chief John Odigie- Oyegun to resign from his position. Frank noted that the APC failed because Chief Oyegun did not consult widely before embarking on the mock election which he said ridiculed the party, adding that the chairman’s action suggested that he acted under undue pressure to conduct the mock elections as admitted by him and was therefore of the opinion that if the APC was to rid itself of the mistakes of the PDP, it needed a chairman that would insulate himself from undue pressure no matter where such pressure emanated from. But in a swift reaction the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that Nigerians should ignore his deputy, Comrade Timi Frank who on Monday in Abuja called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Chief John Oyegun for gross incompetence. It will be recalled that Frank also took a swipe at his immediate boss over comment credited to him(Mohammed) that president Moahmmadu Buhari is not the leader of the party. But reacting to Frank, Mohammed who spoke to our correspondent on phone said that Nigerians should not take his deputy seriously. “Just ignore him. I said it in the context that Buhari is the leader of the whole of Nigeria, not just of my party that’s why I said I don’t want to react to Timi Frank. I don’t even want to answer him at all”, Mohammed said According to Timi Frank, it became imperative for the chairman and leadership of the party to resign having embarked on what he described as an embarrassing mock election that never had the blessings of the entire party’s leadership, adding that the leadership exhibited gross incompetence to manage the National Assembly issue until it blew out of hand. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/crack-in-apc-nwc-as-deputy-national-publicity-secretary-calls-for-oyeguns-resignation/#sthash.xnCGq4QZ.dpuf |
Politics / Re: Federal Allocation-does The South-west Deserve This? by notobs: 7:30am On Jun 15, 2015 |
Hammefeez: What a slowpoke you are! Nobody is getting anything certainly not Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom and the oil producing states are giving 87% of its oil revenue to all the other states in Nigeria and only keeping a mere13%. The FG allocation / revenue sharing is based on productivity not on a gift bases. If osun which has the highest deposit of gold in Nigeria was mining its gold, it would not be complaining of low allocation short fall. Lagos will join oil producing states by year end 2015, lets see what happens when lagos start getting its 13% oil derivation? Stop the jealousy of the oil revenue and ask your lazy governors to look for ways of generating income through IGR rather than everyone waiting for oil bailouts at the end of the month. You should be thankful for the oil producing states for carrying the nations bills on its back since 1956! If the oil was found in other region i bet they will not be as generous as the oil region are. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Politics / Re: Udom Kicks The Akpabio's Out Of Power; Takes Full Control Of House Of Assembly. by notobs: 10:23pm On Jun 12, 2015 |
AKHA FALLOUT: Akpabio threatens Udom, may support Umana The last may not have been heard of the controversial emergence of a first time-member as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly. The denial of Hon. Ime Okon the role of Speaker of the legislature by Governor Udom Emmanuel and Barr Onofiok Luke has bewildered former Governor Godswill Akpabio. The former governor, Propellerng.com gathered, has been spitting fire in Abuja. The situation is said to be deteriorating the already cold relationship between Akpabio and Udom Emmanuel, Propellerng.com can report. Propellerng.com gathered from multiple reliable sources in Abuja that the former governor today in a phone conversation with Udom threatened to work against the interest of the Akwa Ibom state governor at the election petition tribunal in Abuja. He vowed that because Udom has refused to grant his request to produce Ime Okon as Speaker of the state legislature, he will engineer his removal of the new governor from government house. He told Udom Emmanuel how the multiple evidence of electoral fraud in his possession will be willingly tendered to end Udom’s tenure premature. Akpabio also said he was ready to work with Umana Okon Umana of the opposition All Progressives Congress to see to it that the “stubborn and misled” Udom Emmanuel learns his lessons the hard way. Akpabio is reliably quoted to have said to Udom: “You are not the godson you promised you were going to be; Udom you have betrayed me and my wife. Listen, don’t forget that the election (petition) tribunal is now in Abuja, and I am now in Abuja. Udom before you are misled into fighting me, don’t forget this. Don’t forget the sacrifices I made for you… Umana (Umana) is already consulting with me in Abuja and I am very open and willing to enter into that consultation since this is how you want it.” Our source said the irate former governor said Udom knows nothing about politics in Akwa Ibom state and that it was too early for a “novice bird” like him to want to “learn to fly without having been so certified by the Eagle”. more at:http://propellerng.com/fallout-akpabio-threatens-udom-may-support-umana/ |
Politics / Udom Kicks The Akpabio's Out Of Power; Takes Full Control Of House Of Assembly. by notobs: 7:24pm On Jun 12, 2015 |
Udom kicks the Akpabios out of Power; Takes full control of House of Assembly; Produces Speaker, Deputy Speaker. Contrary to speculations making the rounds in Akwa Ibom state that the immediate past Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has a strong grip and control of his godson and successor-in-office, Udom Emmanuel, the reverse may have been the case with particular reference to the process that produced Aniekan Uko of Ibesikpo Asutan state constituency as the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Monday, MIDWEEK RADAR can report authoritatively. This paper learnt reliably that while the erstwhile governor wanted Ime Okon of Ibiono Ibom state constituency, his wife (Unoma-Ekaette) preferred Felicia Bassey of Okobo. The battle started two weeks ago, we learnt, at the Ukana, Essien Udim’s residence of Emem Akpabio, where it was alleged commitment in form of oath was administered to about 20 of the 26 state lawmakers at the instance of the former without the knowledge of the Governor Udom. We further gathered that when the Udom got the knowledge of the clandestine meetings allegedly carried out by the Akpabios to cage him, he pretended not to be aware of it but chose to ambush the Akpabios on the Speakership position of the sixth Assembly. The power struggle was to shift to Abuja last weekend with major PDP stakeholders relocating to Abuja with view to find amicable grounds for both camps, i.e; the Akpabios and Udom, which, we learnt, yielded no result as no compromise was reached. The Akpabios, we gathered, had banked their hope on the alleged oath administered to the majority of the lawmakers while, Udom, we also gathered had reached out to the 26 lawmakers individually with better offers. Udom, this paper learnt formed contact men across the 26 state constituencies using PDP elders and leaders to further hold firm to the majority of the AKHA members on a daily basis before the Monday’s inauguration of the sixth Assembly, this out-reach paid off successful as Udom is currently controlling, at least, 18 members of the 26-member-assembly. The remaining 8, as at the press time were either loyal to Akpabio or his wife, Unoma, our assembly sources report. MIDWEEK RADAR learnt authoritatively that both the Speaker, Aniekan Uko and his Deputy, Effiong Bassey of Oron state constituency are direct products of Udom Emmanuel and they emerged from the ‘G18’ loyal to Udom’s government. A member of the AKHA who spoke to this paper on condition of anonymity assured that the remaining 8 members are making frantic efforts to return to Udom, noting that sooner than later, they will return and Udom will get at least, 24 out of the 26 members. Udom’s one week in office Some Akwa Ibom stakeholders have reasoned that with this development, Udom’s one week in office as governor has proved his critics wrong because he has thrown up lots of surprises to those who see him as a stooge of the Akpabios, saying; “his first decisive action was the demolition of a popular Filing Station along Nwaniba which was owned by the Akpabios. Second, is his ability to resist attempt by the Akpabios to impose the Speaker of the sixth Assembly. “What we now expect of Udom is for him to select on merit and constitute his cabinet members devoid of the Akpabios’ influence. When this is done, Akwa Ibom people can go to sleep that Udom is independence of the Akpabios,” they argued.
