Everything about Nigeria is always substandard without giving much critical thought to aesthetics and organization. There should be no track in the field because it simply doesn't look good . why do all the stadiums have track ? Do you see any tracks in the European league you enjoy watching? having no track ensures a better view of the match. Only Olympic purpose stadiums have track .
Also ,everything does not have to be about size. A small but quality and organized stadium is much better than a large empty stadium.

You think stuff just happen overnight...Firstly, you need to be grateful people are coming out to watch. Nigeria was set back like 50 yrs by the leaders. We need to provide the most basic amenities before building a 100 billion stadium. And maintenance cost money too.

Nwanne,keep it coming...deme sor.
Although I love Enugu Rangers due to what my elderly relatives who followed the club in the '70s has said about the club...Hell,an Umuoji guy Ernest Ufele is one of the founders of the club alongside Emmanuel Okala and Joe Azinge and rest. And later Ikechukwu Ofoje another Umuoji guy captained the team.
However,I have no real experience with the club. Never watched them play or anything.Looks like they are doing really well this season, yet, the real fight hasn't even begun.

TRUE CHARACTER OF CHAMPIONS

It was obviously a well fought three points for the peoples elephant at the Godswill Akpabio stadium Uyo, against the ever resilient Akwa United.

The game was a high tempo one as both teams fought to the finish, but it was Enyimba who stood tall after 90 minutes, courtesy of Pyagbara's first half strike.

It was the peoples elephant's first away win of the season, and also a very applaudable one for that, given the kind of fight Morris Coreman's boys put up in anticipation of an equalizer. But the Aba blue boys held up to their points and wouldn't easily give out any to their host against all odds, but one shouldn't be surprised to see all the fielded Enyimba Fc players in today's match at the massage table apparently receiving an acupuncture or a stretch up, because in my own perspective, the only thing that separated today's match from second world war is simply the absence of guns, grenades, war captains, war ships, war planes, battalion squads, and probably the absence of Adolphous Hitler.

The result of today's game clearly buttresses the Enyimba's Captain remark (Chinedu Udoji) when Akwa United defeated them by 4-3 on penalties after 0-0 regulation time result in Abuja National stadium earlier this year to lift the Charity Cup.

This were his exact words when he was interviewed by NAN after the game;

"We created a lot of chances but we were not lucky to
convert those chances and you know that penalty is
anybody’s game.
In spite of the loss, we have resolved to defend the league title we won; Charity Cup is a tune up match for the new season, and I am happy with our performance.
It is not a do or die affair but I know that this coming
season will be a tough one and we must conquer" fumed Udoji.

He's not far from the truth anyways, they did not only bounced back against the same team that denied them some medals some months ago on a neutral ground, but they also took the fight straight into the corridors of the United boys and conquered them right before the prying eyes of their fans.

It's obviously gonna be a night to remember by the Aba blue boys, as they've made a very big statement about their title defence.

That's the true character of champions!!!

Why would they care to play good football when they have empty stadium to entertain. You show them no support nor encouragement while killing yourselves over Ase-na and Chee-si while your league suffers.
I was reading and argument between Etouile du Sahel fan and a Nigerian who was boasting about the superiority of Enyimba over ESS fc and the Tunisian guy quickly reminds the ignorant Nigerian that Enyimba is not a club to be proud of if he is using Arsenal logo for his DP....It was really embarrassing...Like a black women who is dorning a head full of blonde weave while praising the beauty of Afro hair....lmao. It is hard to imagine what winning a league title was like three decades ago. Were medals dolled out to the winners? Was there a guard of honour? A parade down the streets throughout the city? Perhaps they partied all night and maybe they got a grand reception from the state's chief executive? Maybe. But evidently those glory days were characterized by battle chants and victory choruses, new fans were converted on a daily basis and the match venues of the league winners were packed full long before kickoff.

Between 1974 and 1984, Rangers International had won six league titles, five FA Cups, an African Cup Winners Cup (now Caf Confederation Cup) title in 1977 amidst regular appearances on the continent. Undoubtedly one of the two biggest teams in the country, they regularly supplied playing personnel for the national teams. The Enugu club had built for themselves a very strong side with a fine rich tradition. That was in the days when some of today's league heavyweights were still teething, trying to feed on the whatever crumbs the then big boys had leftover, some others had not even been formed.

Strangely, Rangers shockingly went limp in the years that followed and a steady decline set in. The giant was unable to reproduce the performances that characterized the fruitful years. The momentum moved to the likes of Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland), Julius Berger and more recently Enyimba and Kano Pillars and the only positive was that somehow they ensured that year after year, a Premier League status was ensured. The younger generation most of whom either never witnessed those conquests or were too young to understand were left to make do with tales and pictures whenever memories were brought to the fore.

But the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu refreshed memories of what those glory days were like when it hosted over 20,000 fans in Rangers 2-1 win over Nasarawa United in the ground's first Friday night game. Friday night games have become very popular in the league in recent times but this most recent edition was unprecedented, a perfect setting in all ramifications. The blazing floodlights announced to fans within its reach that indeed Ogui Road was the 'happening place' that moment. The fans heeded the invitation and into the grounds they throng to thousands of others watching, eagerly awaiting kickoff. It seemed everyone in the city was there; fathers, mothers, children, old faces and young ones. The bright neon lights from the new electronic scoreboard adding to the lovely spectacle.

Beyond just a nice Friday evening gathering, this team had wooed Enugu fans with their breathtaking displays since the start of the season. Imama Amapakabo's boys play what probably is the most scintillating football in the championship. The deadly quartet of Bobby Clement, Godwin Aguda, Obinna Nwobodo and Chisom Egbuchulam (acronym CANE from their last names) have terrorized defences to calamitous effect so far this season; their movement off and on the ball, the flash of their attacks and their potency in front of goal when it required.

It was not surprising hence when that crowd held its breath in hope and anticipation when Chisom Egbuchulam set out with a trademark run in the third minute toward the Nasarawa goal. Expectedly so from a player who has six goals so far this term. They collectively heaved disappointingly when his strike flew over the target. Unlucky not to be on the scoresheet but his assist handed Rangers the opener. A blur of explosive bursts, he was at the heart of almost everything Rangers created on the night. Beyond a doubt, he looks to have come of age this season, symbolic of his team that had disappointed in the recent past but looks like it means business this time round.

Beyond just watching the action unfold on the pitch, the fans were having themselves a great time. One group situated around the halfway line and facing the VIP gallery were partying all through. Clad in various attires and with diverse musical instruments, they were playing their drums, lighting up flames, waving the club's flags while a few others jangled bells. The rest who 'unprepared' for the ensuing carnival quickly joined the party when the opportunity called for it. First was in the 23rd minute when Clement's firm header from Egbuchulam's corner-kick broke Nasarawa United's resistance. 'Holy, holy holy, holy Enugu Rangers is another champion!' echoed round the stadium, some were standing, others clinched fists in solidarity.

It was not a select few singing, both old and young were as one, loud in their voices. Next was the circle after circle of Mexican waves that swept through and through the galleries in the second half. The joyous expression as each section roared and lifted their arms in unison as it went by meant they were having a time of their life. This was different, this was unique, this was fever pitch excitement, beyond what is common in these regions.

Friday night's experience epitomizes more than just the goings on at Rangers right now it symbolizes a rejuvenated league itself to a greater extent. Beautiful eye-catching football is back, more and more fans are joining the party, surely the glory days look on its way back.

For Rangers, what had been a whisper is getting louder by the day and although only the bravest of their fans can afford making the assertions at the moment with confidence, the rest of the Premier League pack are taking notice; Rangers look the real deal this season, a 32-year title wait could be over by October.

forget the propaganda being spread online that awka is now haven on earth(if I hear),the town is so damn chaotic, disorganised and dirty!

the money that was used on embarking on the useless project of constructing 3flyover on the enugu-onitsha expressway should have being used to just rehabilitate the awka axis only and the rest channelled to the only dualized road in the town(ziks avenue) like widening the road and constructing a good drainage system.

awka was brandished a 'dumpsite' by mr.ifeanyi ubah sometime ago and since then it still reamins the same.

una good evening

The three flyovers are being built to accommodate the growing population of Awka. Beside, the city has been re- planned and all the mistakes and negligence by past administrators and governors are been corrected. The city has been enlarged encompassing many towns and local governments, which will be called THE GREATER AWKA DISTRICT.
We are on the rise and no amount of hatred can stop us. The Awka you know is not the same changing Awka of today....The city is developing very fast with world class infrastructure. I am not here to quarrel with you but to promise you that where Anambra is headed no state in Nigeria can ever dream of it.
We are not trying to lavish all our budget funds on Awka because we also have Onitsha,Nnewi,Ekwulobia,Ihiala,Otuocha and more developing centers that equally needs infrastructure. I am proud and happy to say that all parts of Anambra are developing uniformly. Good roads, pipe born water, electricity, trade and commerce, security, good healthcare and every necessary infrastructure and social services are being put in place.

Watch out for Anambra,we will shut you up !

I don't see any reason why somebody should wear a stupid weave/weave ons and keep hiding the beautiful black afro hair almighty used to bless and crown our women. Why are our women ashamed of their real hair? Why did you black women make the white woman's hair the standard of hair? Don't you know God made you different for a reason? Chaaiiii... When Enyimba removed the word "elusive" from the CAF champions league title for Nigerian club football.

I was only 11 and 12+ yrs old in 2003 and 2004 respectively but I watched every game Enyimba played on their way to conquering Africa.

You've mentioned most of Enyimba's Glory men but lemme add Dele "the cat" Aiyenugba, Vincent Enyeama, and Michael Ochei.... chaiii.. that squad eh!

CHAN for hear am if it came much earlier. #smiles

And in 2003 and 2004, I don't think The Arugo Monkey kept goal for Enyimba.... it was mainly Enyeama and Aiyenugba.

Chijioke Ejiogu certainly was not a part of Enyimba's all- conquering adventure. He joined Enyimba only afterwards in 2008. He was at Julius Berger in 2003 but joined Dolphins from late 2003/early 2004 (I think?).

Meanwhile, Nigeria as a nation is certainly on life support but we must still believe and focus on the positives around us.

The LMC led by Shehu Dikko is doing a really good job, I must confess. With time, at least some things will get better.

#IStillBelieve

Nnaa eh,I am so sorry about that. What was I even thinking; Indeed it was Vincent Enyeama and later Dele Ayenugba that manned the post and yes the diminutive Michael Ochei was ever present and explosive. And there was this very guy Damian Udeh bought from Gabros in '04. A very gifted and beautiful ball playing baller! He later went to Tunisia and that was the last time I heard of him.I swear our local league has ruined many talented players.
And yes Arugo Monkey wasn't even a member of that golden generation...And this reminds me of a guy called Josiah Maduabuchi of recent Enyimba squad. He used to captain the club but I don't hear about him anymore.A very skillfully talented artist on the feet.
If we can get it together in the home front our boys wouldn't even have to go overseas and we won't have to depend on these foreign pros just to build a team that can conquer the world of soccer.

Nice lesson there. I did not watch of Enyimba but there was a crazy devotion to the team. There was a time they used UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar during one of their Champions League run. Back then I was in Calabar and the hotel they stayed in, Marian Hotel was on the street I lived.

There were crowd gathered outside the hotel when those guys came around and people trooped to watch them play.

That was a golden opportunity for our club football but we missed it.

If there was CHAN then, I believe we would have won it with those guys.

Our local teams need support and we have to do something about a lot of the pitches.

If you want to see how good Mfon Udoh is, catch a game when he is on a good pitch. On bad pitches where you see the long ball football, you won't enjoy much of him. But on good pitches, he looks fantastic.

Definitely my best player in the NPFL, although I do not watch much but catch a few games
.

We dey here dey talk about league when Nigerians can't even buy fuel. The bad state of our league is a testament to how terrible the Nigerian economy is. People blame our boys who do age cheating forgetting the suffering some of these boys go through just even feature in amateur league. Most times they don't even get paid but they keep playing on empty stomach....When I see the condition of our league players my heart bleeds. They look so hungry and disheveled. Those boys go through hell just to make ends meet.

And the pitches, don't get me started. By the way I have a question. Does it cost so much to maintain grass? Like picking weeds, regrassing, watering and cutting and patching holes. Is it so expensive? We can't even boast of a decent turf! Is Nigeria cursed?? We want people to leave Arsenal and Chelsea and come see local matches but we need to create a safe environment and encourage these clubs to play good football nobi all these karate wey dem dey play. Nobody wanna see that rubbish.

As per devotion , Enyimba still dey learn. Try Rangers,Masun gida and Oluyole warriors. The Antelopes always play the samba. Bros, don't mind me....I love our local league, clubs and our boys but man don't tear.
