In places like Ideato North and Orsu you hear words like Oliseburuwa and Oseburuwa. When you come to Orlu/ Isu it becomes: Oriseburuwa and Oseburuwa.
Note the difference in Olisa, Orisa and Osa.

I asked about Orlu for a specific reason because I know for sure some part of Anambra that borders Orlu didn't use "Olisa",prior to the coming of Europeans. So,Olisa is foreign to Orlu and the Ideator or Orsu that you quickly pointed out were influenced by Ogbaru people.

Ezhiokwu? Where did you carryout this research? I've not come across that before.

The popularity of Onicha axis Igbo will make that possible to happen. You can't intentionally speak a dialect nobody will understand when you clearly have a choice to switch. You might wanna ask what popularity than I would refer you to old Catholics literatures that spread the Onicha axis Igbo to all parts of Igbo land.

I don't really care about what is spoken in Sountern Igbo land because I am not from there, yet I wouldn't like a situation whereby Anambra dialect is being corrupted by the influence of Igbo Izugbe or whatever the crap they call it. I know the structure of Igbo Izugbe is based on the Onicha/Idenmili axis but the pronunciation of the words represents what is spoken in southern Igbo land. And that is very dangerous!

@Ihuomadinihu, all what you've highlighted are in tune with my thoughts. Ya ga zie gi .
@Chinenye, hope you were bluffing when you typed these lines:
Please do not confuse Onitsha-Igbo to Igbo-Izugbe (Standard Igbo). Are you a Catholic if I may ask? If you're not then sorry this area isn't your area of authority. As one who was born a Catholic and who have had the privilege of worshiping in various diocese in Orlu, Okigwe, Umuahia and Owerri eclessiatical province I can authoritatively tell you that we do not conduct mass in Onitsha-Igbo. We conduct all church activities in Central Igbo. You can go and verify if you want. Take the samples below for instance.
Onitsha-Igbo says Na afa nna
We say Na aha nna
Second
Note the difference. Unless you meant to talk about the syntax or something else

And "Oseburuwa" happens to be Orlu dialect.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has inaugurated a six-member newly reconstituted Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, with a charge to the members to arrest the decline in discipline in secondary schools in the state.

The board members are Messrs Nestor Ezeme, Chairman; Obi Kama and Clement Inyaba.

Others include Mrs. Obiageli Igwesi, Mrs. Veronica Ezeugwu as part-time members with Mrs. Favour Ugwuanyi the Permanent Secretary of the board as Secretary.

It was an occasion when the chairman of the new school board called on Governor Ugwuanyi to declare a state of emergency on computer education in the secondary school system in the state in view of the obvious lack of computer literacy among the greater population of the students.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the inauguration of the board members at the Government House, Enugu, Governor Ugwuanyi enjoined them, “to instill in the teachers and other workers, a new sense of discipline, diligence and responsibility that should reflect on the performance and character of their students”.

The governor warned that,”government would no longer tolerate inefficiency, redundancy, nonchalance and any unnecessary squabbles and intrigues both in the board and in schools”.

In his words, “we would therefore in this regard expect an instant and significant improvement in the performance of our children in WAEC, NECO, JAMB and other external examinations.”

DRAGFLOW DREDGER FOR The City of Onitsha NIGERIA

New Vessels // October 22, 2015
Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on email Share on print More Sharing Services
Dragflow recently completed the delivery of a new dredger to a client in Nigeria.

The company was contacted by Matag, a Nigerian dredging company, about acquiring a dredge to increase its capacity to dredge sand to supply local markets in Onitsha, Anambra State, and Asaba, Delta State, which is a sister city on the other side of Niger River.

The company was interested in expanding its ability not only to sell sand but to undertake reclamation along the river. With a previously owned cutter/suction dredge, which that had a digging limit of approximately 10-12m, the company was limited to seasonal dredging.

The River Niger is known to rise as much as 8m during the wet Season, especially when dams are opened up in Garouwa, Cameroon, which is approximately 1,200km away. Matag needed a dredge that could work continuously through the season.

Dragflow supplied Matag with a model DRH400E35DF configured to reach a depth of 35m, equipped with a Dragflow HY400 submersible pump. With this solution, Matag has successfully deployed their dredge and has begun to work since the end of July 2015.

Dragflow says the client is "very happy" with the production that is being achieved, as well as the reduced cost of production it has achieved.

This will be very helpful with reducing flooding....I know a lot about dredging and it's benefits. We can use some of these light duty dredges to dredge our rivers and streams and our problem of flooding in the wet season could be fixed.

New Health Insurance Scheme Underway in Anambra – Obiano

The Anambra State Government is to provide medical treatment to its citizens especially some category of Ndi Anambra and prisoners who will be treated free through a scheme that provides opportunity for wealthy individuals to subsidize the health expenses of the poor and the less privileged in the State. Governor Obiano announced this during a pontifical High Mass to mark the 62 birthday of the Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke at the Onitsha Prisons.

Addressing the inmates and dignitaries who joined the Archbishop for Mass at the Prisons, Governor Obiano said that his government is aware of the health challenges facing the Prisoners and is making frantic efforts to ameliorate them while presenting drugs, toiletries, bottled water and a cash donation of 400 thousand naira to the inmates.

The structure of the State Health Insurance Scheme is organized to enable people who work to contribute for health delivery according to their capability into a pool of funds. It is expected that the pool of money will enable government take care of the health needs of both the have and those unable to cater for most of their health needs. The arrangement is seen as a welcome development for citizens, the state and workers who have not been able to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Governor Obiano also disclosed at the occasion that “the judicial workers will call off their strike action this week.” The announcement was followed by a huge applause from the inmates most of whom are amongst the 760 inmates awaiting trial. The governor urged the inmates to see their stay in prison as an avenue through which they would ponder over their lives both present and future and utilize the opportunity to reposition themselves.

Earlier in his homily, the celebrant Most Rev. Valerian Okeke expressed appreciation to the governor for supporting the prison inmates, describing him as the most prisoner-friendly governor so far in the history of the state. The Archbishop reminded the prisoners not to see their situation as the end of the world but to utilize it to the glory of God. Archbishop Okeke announced that the Archdiocese would within three years construct a modest skill acquisition center in the prisons to allow them use their time gainfully.

Most Rev Okeke promised to give the inmates a live cow in addition to bags of rice. He brought with him cooked rice, toiletries, and biscuits among other items for the celebration, and later toured the cells with governor Obiano which he explained the Archdiocese had tiled and fixed ceiling fans and sunk boreholes to supply water to all the cells.

Also in his Vote of thanks, the Auxiliary bishop of Onitsha Archdiocese Most Rev Dennis Isiuzo regretted that the inmates are mostly young and thanked the governor for not only arranging for the Skills acquisition training and re-integration of the 25 inmates he granted amnesty but also the promise to give them one million Naira each to start life anew. Most Rev Isiuzo said a good state is measured by how the poor and down trodden are treated for which Anambra is rated high.

Earlier, the Comptroller of Prisons, Mr. Anthony Ubaike, and the Deputy Comptroller of Onitsha Prison, Mr. Alex Oditah recalled that Governor Obiano is the only governor that visited and granted amnesty to 25 inmates, and gave them soft landing with cash and skill acquisition.

The highpoints of the event were the cutting of the birthday cake and a novelty football match with the inmates.

Anambra produced 190,000 metric tons of rice — Obiano

Anambra State has organized activities to mark the 2015 World Food day which was celebrated globally recently.
This year’s celebration, which took place at the old stadium Awka, had farmers from all the twenty-one local government areas in attendance.
World Food Day is celebrated annually on the 16th of October to sensitize and mobilize member-states of the United Nations against threats of hunger and poverty in line with the Millennium Development Goals MDG’s.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “social protection and agriculture: Breaking the cycle of Rural poverty.
In Anambra State the event afforded farmers an opportunity to showcase the type of farm produce they are known for.
Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano re-iterated that Agriculture as his number one pillar has received and will continue to receive undivided attention, calling on farmers to embrace agriculture as the fastest means of grooming the state’s economy.

He announced that Anambra state had generated one hundred and ninety thousand metric tons of rice under one and half years as against eighty thousand metric tons generated previously and will by the end of next year complete the three hundred and twenty metric tons required to feed the state.
Governor Obiano announced that he would by next season inaugurate the proposed football-field-like fish pond that will commence in all the council areas which will be managed by fifty youths each.
He disclosed that the first batch of the two hundred and fifty youths trained in agriculture have graduated while the second batch are still undergoing training and will be given seed money each to start off.
Earlier in an address, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Afam Mbanefo said that activities marking the year’s event include training of farmers in the various agricultural value chains, distribution of seeds for dry season farming, among others.
Mr. Mbanefo commended Governor Obiano for the bold steps already taken to transform agriculture in the state which include development of a blue print on mechanized agriculture, provision of improved seeds, fertilizers and tractor services that have boosted productivity among the small-holder farmers.
The State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAM and former Commissioner for Agriculture Chief Nnamdi Meko, noted that the face of agriculture has been reformed since the past one year which in turn has increased productivity and created jobs.
High points on the occasion were tour of the various farmers stands and distribution of improved cassava stems to the farmers by the Governor.

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has intensified efforts to end the housing challenges of the state with the signing of an MoU that would ensure the construction of 10,000 units of housing in the state.

The project which involves a partnership with Affordable Building Concepts International Limited is estimated to be valued at $476.1m (N95.2bn) will occupy 200 hectars of land spread across five different locations in the state.

Signing the MoU in Awka on Monday, Governor Obiano expressed optimism that the project would bring a huge relief to Ndi Anambra, especially civil servants who he said had been coming to work in Awka from Enugu and Asaba.

“This is the third MoU we are signing on housing. We hope that all these will go a long way in ameliorating the challenges we are having in the housing sector, especially for civil servants. Now that we have provided security people who are living in Asaba or Enugu will begin to relocate to Anambra State,” Governor Obiano maintained.

Throwing more light on the project, the Chairman of Anambra State investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Igwe Cyril Enweze explained that it seeks to promote urban development and modernization, provide relatively affordable housing for the people as well as attract revenue through the state’s share of the profits.

Pointing out that the initiative was in line with Obiano’s economic objectives for housing and rapid infrastructural development of the state, Igwe Enweze expressed optimism that the project would provide a facelift to the capital city and drive the urbanization of its host communities.

“The project will generate 1500 direct jobs during the construction phase as well as about 6500 indirect employment opportunities of which 75 per cent will be dedicated to Ndi Anambra. Thus, the local artisans and people in the host communities will be engaged as labour and in other capacities, especially during the construction phase of the project,” Igwe Enweze further explained.

In a very brief remark, Tony Duncan, Affordable Building Concepts’ International Director of Sales for Middle East and West Africa expressed the optimism that the company would have a long term relationship with Anambra State. “I am going to be the man on the ground here. I’m coming to live in Nigeria. I’ll work hand in hand with your engineers and architects,” he explained.

Ofodirinwa:

yes absolutely, though I would say venturing into anything really took speed in the late 80s. Most Igbo people of privilege have stories of their parents being poor, while many Yoruba of privilege can tell you of their grand parents being wealthy. This is why you have dynasties in the West and North, while most dynasties from the east were made to start all over in the 80s.

So when you see a lot of Yoruba businesses they tend to be older or started by people with rich parents, where as most Igbo businesses are started by a poor man becoming rich. The rich push their kids into education which opens the door for them to get into businesses where education is of advantage.

businesses like IT will have a Yoruba lead in the onset, then the gap will be closed.

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano showed why he is a leader to watch with a riveting performance at the Governors Session of the on-going Nigerian Economic Summit, drawing intermittent applause and positive comments from a cross section of the audience who were unanimous in adjudging him the star performer of the session.

Governor Obiano won the audience over with a masterful account of his strategic approach to governance, showing a clearly defined model of development that explores the human and material endowments of the state in a comprehensive, verifiable and sustainable manner. The governor’s deft application of private sector best practices that emphasize the imperatives of clearly distilled Vision and Mission Statements in the achievement of group and organizational goals as well as his exploits in securing the lives and property of Ndi Anambra stood him out at the summit as a leader of note.

A thunderous applause resounded through the hall when governor Obiano declared that Anambra was the safest state in Nigeria following his administration’s crackdown on all manner of criminal elements in the state in the past eighteen months.

The governor’s narrative of his exploits in Agriculture, investment drive, education, infrastructural development and efforts at regional integration resonated with the audience who saw in his presentation the beginnings of a promising future for the people of Anambra State.

Obiano’s performance became even more outstanding when contrasted with the performance of some of his colleagues during the session whose performance seemed out of sync with the expected mood of such a serious economic gathering.

While his contemporaries exchanged mundame banters and poked fun at each other in a manner that betrayed a lack of understanding of the serious nature of the event, Obiano spent the time allotted to him offering deep insights into the economic blueprint of his administration and impressing prospective investors with his brilliant understanding of how a carefully thought out partnership between the government and the private sector can work for the general good of society.

Prominent private sector figures who attended the session were unanimous in their observation that governor Obiano has successfully transferred some best private sector philosophies of governance to the public sector, leaving some remarkable footprints and a trail of excellence.
