As part of modernization, the Kenya Navy is currently training pilots . The pilots are part of a pilot project to operate maritime patrol aircraftsMPAs. The introduction of the aircrafts will augment the Maritime Surveillance Radars as well as extend the surveillance range to cover the EEZ and ECS. The aircrafts shall employ Sensors which will provide a continuous Recognized Maritime Picture. The images from radar stations together with images acquired by the patrol aircraft shall form part of an integrated system that shall be displayed at the Maritime Operation Centre thereby maintaining a Continuous Operating Picture of the maritime domain.

davefurn: True, but their response were accurate but they didn't even shoot one down.... Drones are very small and air defense hardly picks them sometimes That where passive air defense comes in camouflage, deception and decoys, otherwise air threats are always mutating factoring in the continued development of stealth technology drones etc....of importance is protecting critical military installations /Vital Areas such airports runways, powergeneration sites ,oil wells etc such that even when hit the military operations will not stop or get rendered in-operable. |

davefurn: We can agree that drones is a problem for air defense. In which many air defense system are trying to solve especially makeshift drones. Especially looking at korea situation now Not just drones I think most if not every African country needs to have an integrated air picture that increases situational awareness and quick decision making.i.e Radar Squadrons distributed strategically across the country for air surveillance & early warning plus air defense weapons systems and Quick response teams dedicated to respond to emergencies. The whole concept of air defense is supposed to be layered. Plus we need to invest on passive air defense as opposed to active self defense considering budget constraints in most African countries. Things such as camouflage, concealment, deception etc . |

NTSA: Kdf troops celebrating Christmas with the people of Eastern DRC who are returning home . To allow a return without incident and avoid any infiltration of the village ceded to the Kenyan Forces by the M23 rebels, the Kenyan soldiers have established the system of Nyumba Kumi for the identification of returning IDPs. Nyumba kumi was an initiative adopted by the Kenyan security agencies back when alshabaab was hitting us frequently. Generally the locals are organized into groups of 10 Households (nyumba kumi) and encouraged share information about one another and monitor security threats and provide information to the local administration and security organs.

lionel4power: Russia's Buk M3 aka Viking and Pantsir S1 air defence systems routenly shoot down HIMARS rockets mid-air.
The battlefield advantages of the HIMARS have been blunted months back.
One thing I'll say is don't underestimate Russia. Yes they've blundered throughout the war, but this is the first 21st century hyper-conventional near-peer warfare. Every country is still learning from it.
Russia may open another front when the Winter is over. This will put severe pressure on Ukraine. Remember, Belarus is yet to enter the fray. They may do so next year.
This is a long war, lessons will be learnt by both sides and the world in general. Time is on Russia's side. In my opinion Russias military superiority myth has been dented beyond repair.I don't think they can withstand the US combined arms . If the Ukrainians get patriot air defenses it will turn the tide in some way but it's a wait and see game. |

NTSA: copied some interesting take on Russia vs Ukraine
Russia..it done.. finished.. kaput..wait for the motions .They are begging Iran for drones crazy. The Wagner mercenaries are now on the Frontline as Russian army is depleted.Russia made huge blunder not finish Kiev when they had the advantage.Russian went for the flanks instead of going to Kiev early... Ukraine gov has recovered and is now pushing them out of the flanks.Kiev now very safe except for kamikaze drones.Europe breezing through winter..then what for 3rd world Russia..by next summer they will be begging for negotiation. You want to kill a snake go for the head...tail will grow back..poor Putin Russia has mets it Waterloo in Ukraine.I was supporting them as counterbalance to US overbearing dominance but they are done.China is our only hope now for multilateral world order otherwise today USA sits unchallenged as only superpower. They are finishing Russia without lifting a finger... Russia has no answer to their HIMARS and that is just a snippet of us industrial military complex .Russia have exposed themselves to ridicule and defeat is certainly coming.USSR was beaten in Afghanistan by US backed muhajideen and it subsequently collapsed.Ukraine is similar ..they have Russia on retreat and what remain is kicking their arse.Ukraine Comedian is now in the USA for more HIMARS and ammunition..Putin only option is nuclear..which if they are stupid to pull...give NATO the excuse to finish them Germany style..then for next 200yrs they will be allowed to only own bows and arrows |

Nemesis4you: Anyways was thinking over the rus ukr war
My understanding is future wars are going to be won by countries who have a strong MIC which can replenish weapons and ammo at the word go with a robust logistics to support till last mile
Artillery is still the god of war but needs to be integrated within OODA loop for greater effectiveness and faster response. And for accuracy otherwise will result in stalemate
Expensive high flying long endurance drones are as of now r best suited for peace time roles. But inexpensive long range suicide drones will definitely make waves
Tactical attack drones will have increased usage and utility
Without overwhelming Air power conflict will stretch long more or less
Persistent overhead watch needs to be there , be it air or space , domination of EW spectrum is also a must
Etc etc
And last but not the least clear cut aims wrt the war Seems like you need to have a list of abbreviations after your abstract, anyway this would form a great Dissertation/ Research Paper |

There are numerous body fabricators who are at the core of the matatu creativity in the PSV sector. They come up with the intricate designs that entrepreneurs in the sector pay additional cost It's like the government makes the importation of buses into the country expensive thus promoting local assembly. |

Stargate254: Yesterday the Deputy President of Kenya launched OL’BORANA the first advanced semiconductor manufacturing System built in Kenya.
The Company called STL Semicondutor is a PPP project between government of Kenya and a Kenyan Engineer who moved back from the USA. the factory and R& facility s located within Dedan Kimathi University..
From their website, main patners and clients in this company are DARPA, Northrop Grumman, raytheon technologies, BAE Systems, FLIR, Harvard University, Pennstate, SEAGATE, HITACHI, IBM, SAMSUNG, GEARBOX, Ministry of Energy Kenya among others Also Raspberry PI's CEO and executives recently visited the facility and shown interest
4 main areas of focus:
Semiconductor manufacturing NanoTech Materials R& Silicon Wafer Processing Cyber Security
Here is to hopping that Kenya DoD can secure encrypted comms and radios, then move on to aviation parts and systems, and then eventually to missile systems... I also hope this will inspire netizens to establish other niche manufacturing industries that will reduce our over reliance on imported tech. There is already a local manufacuture that manufactures chips for electricity and Water smart meters and wifi routers so looks like the silicon industry is about to take off. The math is mathing . Gearbox Kenya also witnessed the first pieces of Rasberry Pi production.
