alexis:

Thanks for sharing this post; I like it very much. I think you covered only two forms of Jihad and not the 3rd one.

1. Personal Jihad - Jihad against self i.e. It is striving to do good and remove injustice and evil from oneself and the society
2. Protecting oneself and family - If someone evades your house or property or land. You have the right to defend yourself. I support this.

However, you failed to mention the 3rd type of Jihad, the offensive one. This goes contrary to your claim Muslims must not begin hostilities. Is there an Offensive Jihad as taught in the Quran or Hadiths?

Actually, yes. I mentioned it in my earlier post. The muslim leaders were the leaders in all ramifications. The Muslims were a nation and when the need to protect there sovereignity arose, they went into defense.

Musllims can act under the army of a nation to fight for their freedom, their land and pride and that would be termed jihad and the soldiers who die, martyrs but not as certain individuals without the jurisdiction to do so.

There is a clean cut difference between that type of jihad and terrorism. I may just write it out on another thread.

jerseyboy: Straight From the Quran

Do u think you would still be alive if that is to be taken literally and is meant to be for every situation? I wouldn't have been a Muslim either. But thank God I am because I am guided. I pray you receive guidance as well.

Has any of the Muslims you must have met in all of the years of your existence tried to kill u? You simply can't be alive if that statement above is one of the pillars of Islam. The things that make you a good Muslim are five and do not include fighting.

Verses of the Qur'an were for times and conditions. The religious leaders were also the community leaders hence d need to fight 2 protect their sovereignity and that was even after they were previously attacked.

If you insist and keep to your thoughts. I have at least given you my 2 cents

I see many funny comments.

Some non-muslims have their thoughts on what Islam is and are not ready to change that.

It is like deciding to be a fool.

tomakint: To start with, Islam in Nigeria is split into two broad groups; (1)The Hausa-Fulani Muslims and (2) Others (Yorubas, Tapas, and all the rest tribes) The Hausa-Fulanis don't see Jihad the way Yoruba Muslims and others define it, that's the gospel truth, infact an average Aboki don't see a fellow Muslim from other tribes as friends, they consider them inferior to themselves and that gives the "Violent Colouration to Islam" Just my thought mind you cool
And how did you know this?

when Sudan will massacring black people in Darfur and now South Sudan, enslaving them and forcing them out of their homes how many of their homeless were given food.
Nigerians are always ready to pretend that the good qualities have geographic preference. Kudos to this man for feeding the madman, but attribute this to the individual not the country because we know how Sudan 'treats people'

There is a million and one meanings you can read to this picture. It is possibly an excavation site. I have heard of archaeologists working in that region. Pictures as this are taken all d time. Who kills by d way only to pose with d pics. Dumb ass

I was on board a flight when I met a man who was under d african union whatever to Sudan. It was a time when the darfur news was making rounds. I asked him what the situations were like and asked how he coped there and if there was electricity supply.

I was supprised when he said the electricity in darfur was better than of Nigeria. You can then imagine what that of the capital city, khartoum would be like.

And here we have Nigerians(local champions) boasting over laptops as being giant while a country plagued by long years of war and with much less mineral resources is able to provide d basic social amenities for its people.

Mortiple: Aren't you referring to the same Sudan notorious for breeding sea pirates and annihilation of next door neighbour, Southern Sudan?

Please tell us another lie!

"Mad man: Wallahi miskeen ana bas (By God I am just a poor fellow)". By the way, what makes him a mad man? It is your type that would see a mechanic and call him a mad man and possibly do a writeup on it.

You need to get out of your comfort zone the more. Many of you don't know what is out there and simply rely on what the media tells you.

Do you know that a large population of the southern sudanese people who left the capital are back there? Working and living in khartoum without any problem?

There is a big difference between the soldiers of the two nations fighting and accomodating a civilian into their midst.

The sudanese are one of the nicest groups of people.

I am a Muslim and the most I would have done with such a tweet is commend the deep thoughts of d writer.

El Rufai goofed-yes he did. He should have known how very unreasonable Nigerians can be. He, as a supposed role model with that many followers, who cut across religious affiliations and with an understanding of the nature of the Nigerian system should have known not to retweet that.

The pastor who questioned El Rufai is another nobody hoping to capitalise on this situation. Is it fame he wants now or political appointment abi na increased congregation.
It is shameful how notice-me hungry people can get and using religion to get that is worse than anything else.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by nuorlah: 3:39pm On Jan 28, 2013
Since many people here arent from those societies, all that was mentioned by the Z man become important. Before 25 most people havent gotten a grip on life and may not know what exactly they want.

Child rearing is another case. I personally think the solution to that would be to marry early and start having children later. Going to school while having children may not be good for both mother and child
Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by nuorlah: 3:27pm On Jan 28, 2013
It is possible for young people to marry only if they would have been taught(which isnt quite easy) what marriage entails. Society does a lot in shaping us and if people live in societies where such marriages are the norm, it wouldnt be such a big deal.

From Ilorin up north, it is common to find young people marry as early as d age of 18 and they live happily. But in such cases d girls are d young ones while d men can be btwn 20 and 25.

Maturity and all wouldn't matter in such a case cos they av bn groomed and earlier on exposed to the concept of dating, and marriage. They may have been more mature on marriage matters than a 25yr old from another place.

The best thing would be for parents to groom their children into understanding how important this is.

He might just be your neighbour. You may jam him someday and want to ask him questions.

He is cute though grin angry

But his facial expressions while talking tongue

His voice must be blehhh sad

Politics / Re: Reno Omokri Calls Oby Ezekwesili A "Wicked Step Mother"... (pics Included) by nuorlah: 10:21am On Jan 28, 2013
There is something about the way he said it.

He has some good points though totally based on sentiments.

Where has Ezekwesili been all the while? Why is she just talking?

The Gej people would have to do better than name calling. Can they not just counter her arguments if she was wrong?

I'm very sure there already is one, possibly many.

I think its rather disrespectful to assume the muslims in nigeria do not know what they're doing, when it comes to things like these. Your travelling abroad doesnt necessarily mean you now know better than them.

there are other areas which need to be addressed when we are talking about the nigerian situation, which i personally would consider more urgent.
Can you name them and their location?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 7:56am On Jan 26, 2013
Thank you for your time.

We can have an halal agency or board in Nigeria to certify the food we eat. But it has to start with educating everyone on d need to. It could drive commercials for people who adhere and all food agencies would have to conform knowing d over 75 million Muslims of Nigeria will only eat food certified by the agency.

Proceeds can go into da'wah or charity.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 5:50am On Jan 26, 2013
This shaikh is quite evasive. I get the part of Aisha's hadith well and it still bothers on thinking the best and assuming the best while saying bismillah. We are in that state in Nigeria though. In the SW majority of the men in abbatoirs are Muslims and d 'alfas' as believed do d butchering. In the north, everyone is expected to know.

The problem lies in when you are eating from a christian. I doubt that you can do much or when you attend festivities.
You simply wouldnt eat meat? Of any kind.
undecided
I still want to know if the jews say bismillah or anything like that or the christians. What do their books say?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 12:31am On Jan 26, 2013
I wasn't referring to just you with the first statement. It is general that people expect others to do the job not realising each person to his good deeds ni.

I think what I was making clear,we both agree on now.

I hope more can be said on what constitutes haram and what not, meatwise
Celebrities / Re: Google Billionaire Seen Riding On New York City Subway by nuorlah: 12:22am On Jan 26, 2013
Many of you are concerned about the simplicity. I care more about the project.

When these things were in movies you'd think na just movie things which means we will soon have the non screen projections.

O ga o. The world is developing while some stay here all day claiming to be what they are not. Fake intellectuals.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 12:00am On Jan 26, 2013
You ve written a lot, thank you but they don't address my point. So I will try and make myself clear.

I. Of course every Muslim would have to try their best to eat the halal way. And d Muslim leaders should already be doing something about it and If they don't the younger generation can just do it rather than always expecting others start what anybody could have done.

2. About eating the food of the christians for example,do they say bismillah b4 killing?- this is the question I was trying to ask.

3. Majority of the christians of today dont even know what their religion says of this thing and Allah already permits us to eat their food. Would we not in case they dont say bismillah? Or are we to ask how it was preparef before eating it. And now I am not talking of pork but chicken or beaf.

4. The prophet(S.A.W) as inferred from his statements would go for the easier when with an option. There is also d rule of yes versus no(as I call it that) and is applied for example whenyou perform ablution for maghrib and at Ishai you are not sure if you farted. You are to make a decision based on what you were sure of. If you were sure you performed at maghrib, that is d yes and nit sure if you farted it is d no. The Yes has it and you are good to go. So u go ahead and have your salat without needing to perform ablution. This is what I mean by Islam being simple!

Now, applying this I cld just assume every hausa man knows how to kill d halal way? and mere seeing my mai suya as looking aboki ish,I can just decide to buy from him without realising he is a Joshua,a northern christian or bought his meat as he is only a retailer from someone else who got it from someone else who was a Joshua. Eventually I do not know and then I could simply say bismillah or continue to be wary forever of a Joshua lurking somewhere killing all d beef or chicken that I may want to buy.

Intention matters and I cld just hope that a Musa did the killing while saying my bismillah.

4. When I mentioned bismillah as being the least of all,I was referring to the other rules that determine the halal or the haram. They include that you don't eat certain carnivores. It is a bit elaborate and I only hope that I can open a thread sometime for the other rulings.

But despite that you wouldnt eat pork from the people of the book, the other kinds of meat(halal),you can eat from them. Doesnt this say something about the bismillah part?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 9:31pm On Jan 25, 2013
And do the people of the book say bismillah before the slaughter @tbaba?

I havent seen d video but that some people in it have some opinion doesnt make it right. Do you mind summarising what the video is about?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 9:27pm On Jan 25, 2013
tbaba1234:

Where did you get that ayah from?

Why do you not say Bismillah and eat pork?

Just like pork is prohibited, meat slaughtered to other than Allah is prohibited, dead meat is also prohibited....

AS much as it is possible, try to eat halal... You can not disobey a direct rule and say bismillah before eating thinking it is ok... Provide the evidence that that is ok.

It is obvious you did not understand what I said. You can't eat pork and say bismillah. I mean once the others are met, the bismillah part is simple.

And pork can even be eaten if there is no means of halal food nearby.

If u live where no one cares about your halal rules, would you not eat ever and get malnourished?

Islam is simpler than you are making it seem

Islam for Muslims / Re: Mcdonald's Settles Islamic Diet Lawsuit by nuorlah: 12:27pm On Jan 25, 2013
tbaba1234:

Actually, no..

As a muslim, you should only eat halal or kosher. I.e slaughtered in the muslim way or the jewish way.

Christians today have abandoned any rule and would most likely slaugther in Jesus name. This is not acceptable for consumption.

One has to be sure of where they buy meat so that they can be sure it is halal. I understand that the abbatoirs are run by muslims but do they follow the rules of slaughter?

Chicken is more dicey because there are many poultry farms and not all are run by muslims. In 9ja, I only eat chicken slaughtered in my home by me or anyone in the home.
I don't think u need to be perfectly sure. In instances where u are not sure bismillah was pronounced before the slaughter, saying bismillah before eating can suffice. I agree wv mai suya on that.

There is a lot to d rules on halal eating beyond d saying of bismillah before the slaughter. How about how it was slaughtered and if the meat was dead before it was and the type of meat that should or shouldnt be eaten. The bismillah part is d least of it all.

Dr Muzungu: This is all about fake morality. People complain about n.a.k.e.d.n.e.s.s. and... foreign... culture, but at the same time they try to sleep with anything that moves... sleep with multiple girlfriends, underage girls etc. Is that the morale we are talking about here?! Attend Sunday service in the local church, on Sunday evening sleep with neighbour's wife... let me not mention some other, this time illegal activities usually done in the night.
