Will First Bank Shares Drop Below N3 In March?
NAIRAMETRICS
FBNH the holding company of First Bank and other non banking financial institutions is expected to release its 2015 full year results around the middle of March 2015. Investors are said to be apprehensive about the results believing that profits could come down significantly lower in 2015 than what it was at the end of 2014.

FBNH’s 2015 9 Months results showed pre-tax profits dropped by about 19% to N59 billion a factor made worse by huge loan impairments. The bank posted loan impairments (anticipated loans that could go bad) of about N46.6 billion in the first 9 months of 2015 about 249% higher than the N13.3 billion reported in 2014.

Indications therefore suggest that the loss provisioning could be higher at the end of 2015 following the further drop in the price of oil. Brent Crude for example has tumbled from about $55 in October 2015 to as low as $30 in 2016. This drop means First Bank’s exposure to the upstream end of the oil and gas segments could be further impaired. First Bank is said to have over 70% exposure to the oil and gas and Real Estate Sector which as at October 2015 had contributed to raising its non performing loans ratio to about 4.5%.

One particular oil and gas customer, Atlantic Energy is said to owe First Bank about $400 million which we believe could be impaired. The bank in its earnings update back in October had confirmed that the company had overdue interest payments which it could most likely classify if it doesn’t get paid. If it does, the bank’s profits could be significantly impaired and could lead to a loss for the last quarter of the year.

First Bank 1 year Price Chart, Source: Bloomberg
First Bank 1 year Price Chart,
Source: Bloomberg

These factors appear to have weighed down negatively on the stock with the share price returning an estimated year to date loss of 27%. The share price has also shed over 40% since it last released its result keeping it at a price earnings ratio of 1.5x and price to book ratio of about 35%. First Bank shares has lost around 35% of its value in the last one year.

Apart from its weak profitability outlook, the momentum seems to be off for the bank with technicals suggesting a “strong sell” for the bank’s shares. Despite the apparently low valuation it appears the bottom may still be N1 away as investors continue to send bears down the way of financial stocks. If the bank reports an earnings per share below N1.5 then at its current price earnings multiple of 1.5 the share price could trade at around N2.5. FBNH also last paid dividend per share of 10kobo and bonus shares of 1 for 10.

A repeat of that will put dividend yield at about 2.5% further denting the attractiveness of the stock. It is however, unlikely that the bank will pay dividends of less than 30 kobo per share considering this current share price. A 50 kobo per share dividend will probably cost the company around N15 billion which could imply anything between 30-50% of full year profits depending on what it reports in its performance in the fourth quarter of 2015. Shareholders will hope that this occurs to avoid another rout on the stock.
Sighs! Chai

It remains a volatile stock that you can't be too sure of...Expect a lot of investors to take profit at current price which will cause a fall... I notice a shift in interest from WAPCO to this line of stock by investors. This has made the former to be roving around N78 and N81... However, still remain a stock with strong fundamentals.
I'm conflicted on WAPCO... Stocked up at N82 and now have double mind whether to average down abi I should jejely diversify with my remaining coins huh

I transferred using instant banking today. I sent an email with the transfer receipt as attachment and they credited me 20 mins later.

Also in your transfer description try using " Name Surname - Account No" ... It can help make reconciliations easier as you know they receive alerts from thousands of customers probably

I will advise Okomu. But you can also consider Nestle or Wapco. They are reliable and very rewarding... grin
I am currently holding WAPCO... entered at N81.5 so do not want to be heavily exposed there.

But will take another look at NESTLE.

Thanks!

If you are looking at short term, my opinion is none of the above.

Unilever may be good for mid to long term (>6 months) but I think it will be best to buy it in the selloff that will happen just after they release their FY 15 result. (I expect another poor result from them)!

I remain neutral on Okomu for now.
Thanks! This sounds like good advice... Was wondering why they presently appear undervalued

Does anyone know what the N2bn employee benefits expense in AIICO 2015 financials as at Sept 2015 relates to?

It appears unusual especially as it was zero in 2014.

my take is a hold on key policy is to be expected.
1)there wouldn't be devaluation and
2)no changes in MPR and CRR
but if there is to be any changes its going to be

(i)Increase in public sector deposit from 20% to 25%(CRR)
(ii) Retention of MPR @11%
in the first instance market recovery will gradually build but in the second instance the market going down
nb:all external conditions not put into consideration.

You now see the secret behind the crash in the market....Forget all the oil crash distractions....The cowboys caused a panic to get value stocks at extremely low prices to take position for the dividend and capital appreciation. Like i said some days ago, the low prices we saw in some stocks, we might not see it any time soon for now.
I sold on Wednesday morning most of my portfolio at about a 20% profit (except the elephant which I am holding for long term).

Loaded my gun now against next week... I'm expecting the grandfather bears to return if the MPC meeting does not go well

PoliticsRe: Akwa-Ibom: Akpabio Promises Uninterrupted Power Supply by NuttyChoky(m): 2:16pm On May 31, 2011
The IPP at Ibom currently evacuates 80MW out of its installed capacity of 191MW. 56 of this goes to Uyo while the rest goes to other states through the national grid. The idle capacity of 111MW is as a result of the limitation of the transmission lines between Eket and Uyo which is the property of the Federal Government. Until the FG inproves transmission capacity in line with the power sector roadmap, it is no use for us to keep building IPP's as this can be likened to a farmer with no access roads to his farm and whose produce thereby gets rotten at the farm for lack of transportation.

Business33,000ltrs Tanker For Lease (port Harcourt And Environs Only) by NuttyChoky(op): 12:04pm On Jan 06, 2010
Yep, its a new year with new business opportunities;

I am currently managing a 33,000ltr tanker for a family member abroad and want to put the vehicle into productive use. From the little I know of the downstream Petrol and Diesel business, the two options I have are;

-Lease the truck to owners of small fuel stations (Independent marketers)
-Invest my capital and purchase the products from the depot, bring them to Port harcourt and source for buyers at the right price.

Any off-takers for the products in port harcourt and environs as well as those interested in leasing (hiring) the tanker should call me on 08063794408 (John)

PS: Anybody with marketing tips (I mean agents/middlemen) would also not be left empty-handed. Knowledge is POWER!

I have a 33,000ltr tanker for hire @ a negotiable rate but if its products you want then I could go the extra mile and invest my capital and purchase the products on ur behalf. but we'd really have to discuss the payment modalities cos I'm not cut out for this payment-on sight transaction as I'm based in Port harcourt.

Interested? call John 08063794408
