Politics › Amid Fuel Scarcity, Group Picks APC Presidential Forms For Timipre Sylva by NwaNimo1(op): 8:50pm On May 09, 2022 |
DESPITE long queues at filling stations, a group has picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential election expression of interest and nomination forms for Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva.
A group, Good People of Nigeria, said they obtained the forms on behalf of Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa.
Mohammed Abu Abaji, who heads the group, said the minister’s performance in the petroleum sector shows he has the capacity to lead the country.
“That is why we bought these forms and called on him to come and contest in the APC primaries; I think it is one of the small things we can do for him.
“For the period he has been the minister you can see that he has spent a lot of time in the Niger Delta to talk to his people. We believe that as a President a lot will happen for oil prospects for the development of Nigeria. We are the good people of Nigeria and it is a collective donation. Everybody you see here donated money for the fund,” Abaji said.
Sylva, in his response, said he will consult widely before accepting the forms.
“It is very humbling and I must also say it is shocking. What I will do now, I will not give you a direct response. I need to consult my constituency, the leaders of this country and then I will come back to you to let you know if I have taken a position to run for the President of this country.
“I will go to my leader, for example the Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, I will talk to him.”
Meanwhile, long queues has surfaced at filing stations in Abuja since Saturday.
The development marred school resumption on Monday as many children and their parents were stranded.
Also, many Nigerians are stuck in long queues at filling stations, despite the government’s stance on non-subsidy removal.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Ltd, which the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources supervises, said the sudden appearance of fuel queues in parts of Abuja is due to low loadouts at depots which usually happen during long public holidays, in this case, the Sallah celebrations.
The NNPC added that another factor that contributed to the sudden appearance of queues is the increased fuel purchases made by residents after the public holidays. https://www.icirnigeria.org/amid-fuel-scarcity-group-picks-apc-presidential-forms-for-timipre-sylva/

Politics › Peter Obi: Nigeria Collapsing Under Buhari by NwaNimo1(op): 5:27pm On May 09, 2022 |
A presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi, has stated that Nigeria is going through difficult times and collapsing under the current regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Obi who stated this while trying to woo delegates to the PDP’s national convention from Bauchi State at a brief meeting held at the Command Guest House promised that if given the opportunity of being Nigeria’s next president, he will change the trajectory and set the country on the path of development.
“The country is going through a very difficult time now, and it is collapsing and we must, for the future of our children, change the trajectory of the country by ensuring that we move this country from consumption to production, from sharing to creating.
“We must build a better place, we must change our country because we cannot continue with this level of underdevelopment, this level of insecurity, with this level of problems all over the place. So, we must do the needful to ensure that in 2023, our party must have a candidate that has the capacity, competence, commitment to build a better Nigeria,” he said.
The two-term former Anambra state governor lamented the rising debt profile of the country since the Buhari regime came on board.
According to him, all countries of the world borrow but others use the borrowed funds to develop and improve their countries and people, Nigeria borrows to share and all that we require to take our country out of poverty is to invest a lot, invest in our GDP.
He informed the delegates that he had the capacity to tackle the security challenges bedeviling the country just as he admonished them to think about the future of their children while voting during the convention.
“Our country today is insecure and people ask me, ‘how are you going to tackle this issue of insecurity?’ You can fight insecurity in two ways: firstly, you can fight insecurity the natural way and that is making the youths have a means of livelihood. If you don’t know where the next meal will come from, there are tendencies that you go into criminality. So, you must pull people out of poverty because the more you pull people out of poverty, the more you reduce criminality.
“The second way to tackle insecurity is solving it through men – ensure that you fund security agencies and have capable men, train, empower and provide them with all the necessary equipment they need and this can be done.
“When you go to vote at the convention, please, look at the future of your children and ask yourself, ‘which kind of society do I want these children to live in?’ Even if they give you money or buy you lunch, collect it but when you go to vote, look at the future of your children. We need to do things properly,” he stated. https://punchng.com/nigeria-collapsing-under-buhari-peter-obi/

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has advised churches and religious leaders to make church-owned schools, hospitals and other facilities affordable, especially for the poor and the less-privileged in the society.
Governor Soludo gave the advice on Sunday while speaking at the thanksgiving service to mark the end of the third session of the twelfth synod of the Anglican Diocese of Awka, which held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, there’s need for promotion of the spirit of ecumenism among Christians in the state, which will in turn, project the state to a greater pedestal.
While reiterating the philosophy behind his administration ‘as one state, one people, one agenda’; he also disclosed that his administration has started hosting daily prayer at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, anchored by different denominations.
Governor Soludo underscored the importance of churches building and owing schools, hospitals and other such facilities, which he said, had always been major instruments of evangelism and one of the churches’ ways of contributing to societal growth and development, as was seen in the ancient times.
He however, urged all churches in the state who have schools and hospitals to make the services and facilities of their institutions affordable and easily accessible, as a way to assist the poor and other underprivileged members of the society, as well as contribute to societal development.
According to Governor Soludo, his administration is dedicated and determined to provide quality leadership by gradually and systematically rolling out their agenda towards making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland; which, he said, also requires the collective responsibility and effort to fully realize, including that of the church.
Themed “Running the Christian Race: Implications for Believers in Perilous Times”, the synod which started on Friday, May 6 and ended with the thanksgiving service on Sunday, May 8, was presided over by the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Chibuzor Ibezim.
It also had the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim in attendance, among other top government functionaries, synod delegates, and clergymen drawn from different churches across the diocese.
Among others, the thanksgiving service also featured special prayer for Governor Soludo and his Deputy, for an effective and successful administration in the state. |
Politics › FG Eager To End Insecurity, Import Equipment – Osinbajo by NwaNimo1(op): 10:41pm On May 08, 2022 |
The vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said the federal government is not relenting on its resolve to curtail security challenges and violence witnessed in different parts of the country. Osinbajo said the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration has been importing security equipment, organising training and engaging in security council meetings to find lasting peace and order in the country. The vice president stated this in Awka, the Anambra state capital, weekend, while consulting the leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC), on his 2023 presidential ambition. He observed that more training and recruitment were needed to equip the military to tackle the challenges. “Security is central in everything we are doing in this government. The challenge of this particular government is security because we are opening up everywhere. We have opened up the North-east and containing the insecurity. The same with the North-west. We are also handling the cases of violence going on everywhere, including the South-east and the South-south. “For the first time, the law enforcement agencies in Nigeria are stretching, obviously beyond even their own capacity. If you have four or five different fronts where the law enforcement agents are required, there is no question that they will be there. The military are not trained for civil conflicts and all of that, but they have to adapt. They are everywhere.“But what this period has taught us is that we must drastically reengineer our security apparatus. I don’t think that there will be more Security Council meetings in any other administration other than this one. A lot of work has been going on in reengineering our entire security architecture, from men and women in the armed forces and the police and ensuring that we are able to beef them up because this is a big country,” he stated. https://www.blueprint.ng/fg-eager-to-end-insecurity-import-equipment-osinbajo/https://i0.wp.com/www.blueprint.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/yemi-osinbajo.jpg |
