Police in Anambra said on Monday in Awka that seven of the eight herdsmen allegedly kidnapped in the state on Saturday had been found and rescued.

Police spokesman, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a joint police and military patrol team found the herdsmen sitting in the bush on Sunday unhurt.

They were found at Ogbene, Ochuche Umuodu in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state, he said.

Ikenga added that hundreds of cows said to have been rustled were seen roaming unguided in the same area.

“On April 24, some of the alleged victims of abduction were seen in the bush unharmed while one of the supposed abductees is still missing.

“The joint operatives also discovered some of the livestock in the bush.

“Efforts are being intensified to locate the missing herdsman and some more “rustled’’ livestock.

Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Southeast, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, had alleged on Saturday that10 herdsmen were kidnapped and 300 cows rustled in Ogbaru in Anambra.

Siddiki said the kidnappers demanded ransom for the release of the abductees.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, has arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly defrauded the Emir of Okuta in Kwara State of N33, 399, 999.

The Emir of Okuta in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara, Idris Abubakar, was a former member of the House of Representatives.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Monday in Ilorin, said that the suspect, a native of Stwue in Konshisha LGA of Benue conspired with others at large to defraud the Emir.

Uwujaren said the suspect deceived the traditional ruler into believing that he had a container of goods meant to be used for the development of the community.

He said the container needed to be cleared at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.

“In a petition dated November 30, 2021, the Emir alleged that a group of fraudsters, who operate as a syndicate called him on phone sometime in 2020 that they had a container to clear in Abuja.

“The caller requested for the said amount of money to clear his container at the airport.

“He provided different accounts for the Emir to pay the money into, one of which included that of Fidelis Poor,” he said.

Uwujaren said that all efforts made by the Emir to collect the goods or get his money back proved futile.

“The Commission upon the receipt of the petition commenced discrete investigation into the matter, which led to the suspect’s arrest,” he added.

Uwujaren noted that the suspect would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigations, adding that other members of the syndicate would soon be arrested.

The first lady, Aisha Buhari, has urged political parties to always consider women as running mates to candidates contesting elections into various positions across the country.

Buhari was speaking on Saturday night when she hosted Presidential Aspirants from various political parties to a Ramadan (Iftar) breakfast at the State House, Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Iftar was organised by the first lady to provide opportunity for the aspirants to share love and happiness with one another in the spirit of Ramadan and in a quest for nation building.

She said, fair-play for women in politics was to ensure their greater participation in elective positions.

“ In fact, it is high time women are adopted as running mates at all levels considering their voting strength and active involvement in political processes.

“As we approach the 2023 election with greater hope, I am confident that Nigeria will continue to grow from strength to strength on the pedestal of our democratic tenets” she said.

The first lady, enjoined the presidential hopefuls to remain focused on issues that strengthened the nation`s unity, brotherhood and national cohesion.

Buhari, however, reminded her guests that, the 2015 election was a watershed in the history of Nigeria.

“ It was neither contested in the court of law, nor in the court of public opinion.

“Therefore, the greatest end-of-tenure gift that fellow Nigerians can give to the first family is another free and globally-acknowledged fair election come 2023’,’ she appealed.

She urged all the aspirants to ensure tolerance, fair-play and avoid violent tendencies by building bridges where necessary, especially during electioneering campaigns.

On his part, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, represented by a former governor of Edo, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, urged all aspirants to play politics without bitterness.
