Foreign AffairsIsrael Outrage At Russian Claim That Hitler Was Part Jewish by NwaNimo1(op): 11:32am On May 02, 2022
Israel's foreign minister has denounced as "unforgivable" remarks by his Russian counterpart that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler "had Jewish blood". grin

Russian FM Sergei Lavrov made the comments to try to justify Russia's portrayal of Ukraine as "Nazi" despite the fact that its president is Jewish.

Israel's foreign ministry summoned Russia's ambassador for "clarification" and demanded an apology.

Nazi Germany murdered six million Jews in the Holocaust in World War Two.

Mr Lavrov made the remarks in an interview on Italian TV programme Zona Bianca on Sunday, days after Israel marked Holocaust Remembrance Day, one of the most solemn occasions in the Israeli calendar.

When asked how Russia can claim that it is fighting to "de-Nazify" Ukraine when President Volodymyr Zelensky is himself Jewish, Mr Lavrov said: "So what if Zelensky is Jewish." cheesy

"The fact does not negate the Nazi elements in Ukraine. I believe that Hitler also had Jewish blood," adding that "some of the worst anti-Semites are Jews." shocked

Israel's foreign minister reacted furiously to Mr Lavrov's statement, accusing him of anti-Semitism.

Mr Lavrov was also condemned by the head of Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Dani Dayan.

"Most of his remarks are absurd, delusional, dangerous and deserving of any condemnation," he tweeted. "Lavrov deals with the reversal of the Holocaust: turning the victims into criminals, based on the promotion of a completely unfounded claim that Hitler was of Jewish descent."

There have for decades been unproven claims that Hitler's unidentified paternal grandfather was Jewish, fuelled by an assertion by Hitler's lawyer Hans Frank.

In his memoir, published in 1953, Frank said he had been instructed by Hitler to investigate rumours that he had Jewish ancestry. Frank said he uncovered evidence that Hitler's grandfather was indeed Jewish - though the claim, which has gained ground among conspiracy theorists, has been dismissed by mainstream historians.

EducationBlame Parents For Declining Moral Character Of Children – Northwest Stakeholders by NwaNimo1(op): 11:07am On May 02, 2022
Stakeholders in Northwest geo-political zone have attributed the current spate of moral decadence among school children to the failure of relevant stakeholders to play the mentorship role expected of them.

Responding to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) survey on the issue, they said although moral training of children was a collective responsibility, parents were to blame substantially over the current situation.

They pointed out that parents, teachers, community members and religious leaders had roles to play inculcating good morals in children at home, school environment and places of worship.

Mr Zakari Mohammed, Director Higher Education, Kaduna State Ministry of Education, said that the first point of inculcating morality in a child, was the home.

Mohammed said that it was the primary responsibility of parents to mentor their children and when the child reached school age, teachers were expected to participate.

He said parents owed it a duty to find ways of monitoring activities and behaviour of their children while in school so as to detect and correct areas of concern. shocked

He explained that the disturbing incidences of immoral behaviour among school children showed that there was vacuum somewhere, adding that parents were not doing enough.

“To some extent, some parents have relinquished their responsibilities of moral upbringing to teachers, who had to be playing the roles of ensuring academic advancement, as well as moulding the character of children.

“Every school has Parent Teachers’ Association (PTAs) and School Based Management Committees (SBMCs), which have critical roles to play.

“While the PTAs comprise the parents and teachers, the SBMCs comprise the parents, teachers and community members, and these stakeholders meet to address issues affecting the school system”, he said.

Mr Haruna Danjuma, National President, National Association of Parent Teacher Association, also said that some parents lacked the needed morals to give to their children, thereby leaving the responsibility to teachers.

He stressed the need for parents to wake up to their responsibilities and pay attention to raising the moral standard of their children who were to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Mr Garba Garkuwa, SBMC Chairman, Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, also argued that teachers were supposed to be like parents to the children under their care, and should discipline them when they misbehaved.

“But under the current realities, no teacher can afford to touch anybody’s child in the name of discipline because some parents could mobilise thugs to attack the teacher.

“The parents are discouraging teachers from playing their role of disciplining and counseling the children while in school to keep them in line, and at home, the parents are never there for the children”,he said.

He added that the bond that kept family members together years ago, had broken completely, lamenting that parents had transferred their primary responsibility of parental care to teachers and house-helps.

On her part, Mrs Hadiza Umar, Executive Director, Hope for Communities and Children Initiative (H4CC), an NGO, equally stressed the need for community involvement in parenting.

Umar said that teachers were doing their best, but stressed that parents and communities needed to do more, saying that deviant behaviour of a child, if unchecked, could affect other children in the community.

“Teachers are doing their best but sometimes children come to school with all kinds of issues from their homes, hence the need for psycho-social counseling to children with poor moral upbringing.

“Once you notice a deviant behaviour, bring it to the attention of the parent so that action will be taken before it gets out of hand”, she said.

Meanwhile, Kano State Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission,Mr Shehu Abdullahi, has called on government to provide legal framework and policies on handling children within and outside the home.

He told NAN in Kano that with such arrangement, the moral upbringing of children might be guaranteed.

He emphasised that parents were major stakeholders in ensuring the proper moulding of their wards, adding that the community and schools were only supposed to complement.

On her part, a parent in Kano, Mrs Feyisayo Robinson, said the moulding of a child starts from the day of birth.

“Parents must critically assess the type of the school their children attend, otherwise what ever efforts made at home will be reversed in school,” she said.

Another parent, Mr Lawal Muhammed, stressed the need to moderate the time and type of films being watched by children at home.

“Most parents comfortably sit with their children to watch contents meant for adults only, and this later boomerangs when the kids manifest what they see,” Muhammed said.

A psychologist, Dr Abba Musa, explained that the whole issue of parenting depended on the level of understanding by parents and the child psychology.

According to him, most parents do not understand the psychology of their own children because of distance they have created.

“A lot of parents do not pay attention to the psychological needs of their children, and the gap created gives room for deviant behaviour without the parents realising”, he explained.

He appealed to parents to study their children and spend time with them in order to draw them close and regulate their behaviour at early stage.

On his part, an educationist in Kebbi, Muhammad Jibo, observed that most parents had failed woefully in their responsibilities of nurturing their children to become worthy characters in the society.

“You cannot get what you did not give; the outcome of bad parenting is nothing but the bad attitude and behaviour you see in children,” he said.

Jibo, a lecturer with Department of Education, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, identified parenting as the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of a child, from infancy to adulthood.

The educationist said healthy parent involvement and intervention in child’s day-to-day life lays a solid foundation for better social and academic skills, something most parents lacked today.

A parent in Birnin Kebbi, Malam Musa Dogara, lamented that some parents had failed in their duties, hence the challenge of moral bankruptcy that was manifesting in the manner small children displayed their nudity.

“With the current atmosphere, especially on social media, I advise parents to take up the challenge of shaping and moulding their children to be good ambassadors of their respective homes,” he advised.

In Sokoto, Mrs Kulu Nuhu, former Director in charge of Children, Sokoto State Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, suggested that religious centres should also play the role of social services centres.

She said such places should be more of Reformation Centres or hubs for discussing issues bedeviling the society, just as she described the recent unwholesome conduct of students of some institutions in Lagos, as proceeds of neglect and poor parenting.

In her contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Sokoto State Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs A’isha Dantsoho, suggested the introduction of pre- marriage counseling for intending couples to address the issue of proper upbringing of children.

She said such proactive measure would enable the ‘future parents’ have a clear idea of what society expected of them in the area of moulding the character of their future kids.

In Katsina and Zamfara States, respondents observed that parents had abdicated their responsibility of imparting moral values on their children, expecting school teachers to shoulder such responsibility.

A retired School Principal in Katsina State, Malam Kabiru Umar, said that the responsibility of proper child-upbringing should not lie on the shoulders of teachers.

“The responsibility of mentoring children to behave well and become useful members of the society is that of parents; the role of teachers is purely complementary”, he said.(NAN)

PoliticsAnambra PDP Aspirants Hold Panel Members Hostage, Party Suspends Congress by NwaNimo1(op): 8:46pm On May 01, 2022
The five-member Anambra State Ward Congress panel of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Jibrin Ahmed, was, on Sunday, held hostage by the party’s aspirants and stakeholders over its inability to present the original results sheets. grin

The scenario almost resulted into a free-for-all at the party’s Secretariat at Udoka Estate, when the panel members claimed they left the original results sheets at their hotel room.

The panel members had directed the aspirants, who were contesting the National Assembly elections, and others to converge on the party’s office for briefing before the ward congress, but trouble started when they presented the photocopies of the results sheets.

The development did not go down well with the stakeholders, who insisted that they must bring the original results sheets, adding that this had been the style of the party. grin

They accused the panel members of trying to run away to Abuja to rewrite and input the names of people of their choice.

But the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Jibrin Ahmed, cited security reasons as the reason they did not come with the original results sheets, which was aggressively resisted by the stakeholders.

The governorship candidate of the PDP during the November 6 election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, appealed to members for calm, offering his personal security and vehicles to take the chairman to his hotel room to bring the original results sheets.

However, Ahmed declined the offer, insisting that he must go alone.

The panel team and the party stakeholders, including: Tony Nwoye, Lylda Ikpeazu, Noble Igwe, Ndubuisi Nwobu, Romanus Obi, and other stakeholders, were at the party’s secretariat in Udoka Housing Estate, Awka.

Meanwhile, the party thereafter, announced the suspension of the state congress.

The suspension was due to the panel member’s inability to provide the original copies of the results sheets for the the exercise.

The exercise was earlier scheduled to be held on Saturday.

The panel chairman, Jubril Ahmad, who read the letter of the suspension/apology before the aggrieved members, said a new date for the congress would be communicated as soon as it was decided by the national leadership.

Ahmad added that the suspension was also as a result of the insecurity in the state. shocked

He assured the supporters that the panel under his watch stood for transparency and accountability process.

“The PDP regrets the inconveniences the announced suspension of the Anambra State PDP Congress may have caused,” he said.

PoliticsRe: Forgotten European Atrocities In Africa by NwaNimo1(m): 8:24pm On May 01, 2022
WhatDoYouMean:
Many things has been said about colonialism in Africa, but there are some evils and crimes committed against indigenous people of Africa, by the European imperialists that has never been told.

While these atrocities in Africa don’t get regular mentions in international sphere, Robert Mugabe championed Land redistribution in Zimbabwe, has dominated international discuss.

In this series AfricanQuarters, in keeping with our objective, we will be unravelling some of these atrocities from the South of Africa to the North .

Congo Genocide by Belgium King Leopold 1885 – 1908

After the Berlin Conference of 1884 the 905,000 square miles of the Belgian Congo [now the Democratic Republic of the Congo ] became the personal property of King Leopold II of Belgium.

His genocidal exploitation of the territory, particularly the rubber trade, caused many deaths and much suffering. Murder and mutilation were common.

Failure to meet the rubber collection quotas was punishable by death. The Force Publique were required to provide a hand of their victims as proof when they had shot and killed someone, as it was believed that they would otherwise use the munitions for hunting food.

As a consequence, the rubber quotas were in part paid off in chopped-off hands. Sometimes the hands were collected by the soldiers of the Force Publique, sometimes by the villages themselves. There were even small wars where villages attacked neighbouring villages to gather hands, since their rubber quotas were too unrealistic to fill

Under the control of Leopold II of Belgium numerous crimes against humanity were committed upon the indigenous Africans of Central Africa.  Estimated killed: 10,000,000 The Herero and Namaqua Genocide by Germany 1904 – 1907

The Herero and Namaqua Genocide in German South-West Africa (present-day Namibia) occurred between 1904 and 1907. Eighty percent of the Herero population and 50 percent of the Nama population were killed in a brutal scorched earth campaign led by German General Lothar von Trotha. Between 24,000 and 100,000 Herero perished along with 10,000 Nama.

A copy of Trotha’s Extermination Order survives in the Botswana National Archives. The order states “every Herero, with or without a gun, with or without cattle, will be shot.

I will no longer accept women or children, I will drive them back to their people [to die in the desert] or let them be shot at.” Olusoga and Erichsen write: “It is an almost unique document: an explicit, written declaration of intent to commit genocide”.

These mass killings were named as the first example of a 20th-century genocide in the 1985 Whitaker Report, commissioned but never adopted by the now defunct United Nations subcommittee ECOSOC

PoliticsWole Soyinka, Others Visit Sunday Igboho In Benin Republic (Pictures) by NwaNimo1(op): 8:05pm On May 01, 2022
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has travelled to Cotonou, Benin Republic to visit Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho. grin

The literary icon was seen at the Seme border around noon on Sunday, crossing to Cotonou, the capital city of Benin Republic.

He was mobbed by a crowd while waiting to complete immigration formalities and he was repeatedly asked where he was headed.

His response was that he was on a visit to Sunday Igboho to break the Muslim fast with him. grin

Reminded that neither he nor Ighoho was a Muslim, Soyinka asserted that it made no difference.

He said he had wished to see Igboho, so as to sympathise with his predicament.

“Ramadan is as good as any other season to express non-denominational solidarity,” added the Professor.

Igboho was arrested in Cotonou on July 20, 2021, while trying to flee to Germany as the Nigerian government had declared him wanted.

He was arrested with his wife, Ropo, who was later released. Igboho spent eight months in prison before he was released by the Benin Republic government, but he is not allowed to leave the country.

Igboho had been at the forefront of agitation for the Yoruba Nation in Nigeria until his house was invaded by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ibadan. He managed to flee while some of his aides were killed and others arrested.
