PoliticsAnambra 2021: No APC Primary Election Held On Saturday – Ngige by NwaNimo1(op): 6:46pm On Jun 27, 2021
A leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has said that there was no APC primary election to elect the party’s candidate for the November 6 Anambra State governorship election.

He said that no primary election took place in the state, stressing that as at 4 pm on Saturday, when the election supposed to end, no single material came to his ward and other wards in the state.

Ngige who spoke to Daily Sun in Awka said that as soon as he noticed what was happening he immediately petitioned the National Acting Chairman of the party and the Primary Election Committee Chairman calling for the postponement of the primary election.

He expressed shock at the alleged declaration of Sen Andy Uba as the winner of the primary election with outrageous figures for an election he insists did not hold.

‘I’m not aware that the APC has produced any candidate,’ Ngige said. ‘There is no way the party will elect a candidate for governor or senator for an election without following due process and the constitution of the party. We have two options; consensus and delegate elections which is direct or indirect elections. So you can’t run away from this process and say that you won the election. No, the process must be followed for anybody to emerge and that did not take place in Anambra State yesterday.

‘In my letter to the National Chairman of the party and the Committee Chairman for the primary election, I gave a time frame for them to choose to conduct primary in the state before the expiration of the INEC deadline because no party primary election has been conducted in the state.

‘The guideline for the conduct of the primary election is there, it said that party members and delegates should go to the venue of the election to vote and we did some configuration for the conduct of the election within six hours, which was supposed to end at 4 pm, but my people were at the venue till 4 pm which was the time to end voting. It was after 4 pm that I started writing to the National Chairman informing him that no material had reached anywhere after 4 pm. I also wrote to the Chairman of the Primary Election panel who is the Governor of Ogun State [Dapo Abiodun] at 4:25 pm.

‘The portion of the process has to be done sometime this week. It is up to the national chairman and his executive committee to seat, get reports from the committee chairman of the primary election panel and speak with the aspirants too because the aspirants are now their babies and their children.

‘Did you see any voting yesterday in any ward? I’m asking you as journalists. So if we don’t put our house in order, if we do kangaroo primary and impose somebody, of course, we have planned to fail already. We will meet up with the INEC deadline which is July 2. We still have this week. We can do primary on Tuesday or Wednesday, do an appeal on Thursday and submit our list to INEC on July 1. So we shall meet up with time,’ Ngige assured. grin

PoliticsBuhari Launches WADA, Says Drug Abuse Deadlier Than Insurgency by NwaNimo1(op): 7:30pm On Jun 26, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in Abuja inaugurated the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), saying the war must be fought by all well meaning citizens

Mr Buhari asserted that the drug war was more dangerous than wars against insurgency and banditry because it targeted three generations for destruction shocked.

The launch was initiated by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in commemoration of the 2021 UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The theme of the day, annually marked on June 26, is “Share Facts on Drugs. Save Lives.”

Mr Buhari said “it is therefore my pleasure to declare on behalf of the good people of Nigeria, a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), not just as a slogan, but a call for civil action for all Nigerians to take active part in this war.

“Let me say that this war is more deadly than the insurgency we have in the northeastern part of the country or the acts of banditry in the North-West or acts of kidnapping that transcends all the geopolitical zones of this country because it is a war that is destroying three generations.

”I’ve seen clips of where grandparents are on drugs, parents are on drugs, and by extension, their wards, their children are on drugs. cheesy

“So, this is a war that is targeting three generations in a stretch.

“I believe strongly that every effort must be put in place to ensure that we deal with the issues of substance abuse and trafficking and manufacture.

”I believe strongly, with every bit of conviction, that if we are able to deal with the issue of drug abuse, our security challenges will drastically reduce as we walk toward a drug-free Nigeria.”

The president, therefore, implored Nigerians from every strata of life, including traditional and religious leaders, local leadership at every level, to be vigilant and to support WADA.

Buhari charged the NDLEA to intensify efforts at ridding the country of criminal elements.

He added that criminal elements had made forest areas their hideouts, from where they had been launching criminal onslaughts as well as for farming marijuana.

He said: “I am directing the NDLEA to develop a robust risk-communication and community engagement strategy that will not only disseminate the four pillars of the plan to responsible entities, but deal with destroying production sites and laboratories.”

He also urged families, schools, Civil Society Organisations, professional associations, religious organisations, the academia, community leaders and individuals to work for the common good to rid communities of drug use and trafficking.

He appreciated stakeholders and international collaborators, especially the European Union and the UN Office for Drugs and Control, for their unwavering support to the nation’s drug control efforts, including the development of a roadmap.

Mr Buhari also appreciated members of the inter-ministerial committee on drug control for their contributions and efforts to national drug control initiatives.

In his remarks, the Chairman of NDLEA, Buba Marwa, said N90 billion worth of illicit drugs had so far been seized by the agency in the last five months.

According to him, over 2,180 traffickers have been arrested, including five drug barons controlling different cartels across Nigeria.

He also revealed that a record 2.05 million kilograms of drugs had been intercepted across the country; and 2,100 drug offenders prosecuted with 500 sentenced to various jail terms by courts.

He said “while the statistics are impressive, we wouldn’t deceive ourselves that we have succeeded in cleaning the Augean Stable in five months.

”We have only made a head start. We need to sustain the momentum. We need to win the drug war. We cannot afford to be complacent.”

PoliticsUsifo Ataga Only Had High Libido, Didn’t Deserve To Be Butchered – Fani-kayode by NwaNimo1(op): 5:08pm On Jun 26, 2021
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, has reacted to the gruesome murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, by a 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

DAILY POST had reported that the police in Lagos had arrested the suspect Chidinma Ojukwu, for killing the 50-year-old after she was tracked to her home.

While confessing to the crime, the suspect had claimed that she stabbed the deceased after he forcefully had sex with her.

She further admitted to withdrawing some amount of money from the deceased’s account with claims she wanted to use it to pay for her tuition.

“I was tired and exhausted and wanted to sleep but Mr Michael won’t have any of that.

“He became very violent and tried choking me to death. He smashed my head to the wall and I retaliated after which I used a knife to stab him twice on the neck and once on his tummy,” She said.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode in a tweet via his Twitter account on Saturday said Mr Ataga didn’t deserve to die the way he did just because he slept with a 21-year-old.

He also disagreed with the ideology of some Nigerians that Super TV Boss, Uwaifo Ataga deserved to be killed by his side chick because he was cheating on his wife.

The former Minister opined that just because Ataga went to a hotel to sleep with a lady does not mean he should be butchered.

According to him, Ataga was killed just because he had a high libido.

“Mr Ataga was butchered.Just because he went to sleep with a 21-year- old woman doesn’t mean he deserves to die like that.

“He was slaughtered and gutted like a pig in an abattoir simply because he had high libido and some are trying to rationalize it. Shame on y’all,” he wrote.
