The Management of Arik Air has asked for the intervention of the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, over the planned industrial action by aviation unions scheduled to commence on Monday. The Chief Executive Officer of Arik, Roy Ilegbodu, made the appeal in a letter written to the minister entitled: “Re-Unions in Arik Air threaten to down tools September 14th” in Lagos on Sunday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aviation unions were the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN). NAN recalls that the unions on Thursday threatened to call Arik Air workers out on a strike on Monday, over alleged non-payment of staff salaries since April after placing 90 per cent of the workforce on compulsory leave. Mr Ilegbodu appealed to the minister to intervene in seeking for the understanding and cooperation of the workers’ unions. “We remain committed to protecting the airline and assure our stakeholders of a safe and conducive working environment. “We shall also protect the interest of the flying public for a safe, friendly and on time travelling experience,” he said. Mr Ilegbodu expressed concern that the threat of a strike was coming without an exhaustive use of the various channels of engagement, discussion, consensus and understanding which he described as faulty. He added that the planned strike by the unions was unlikely to yield the best outcomes for staff, the company and its faithful passengers. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/414261-arik-boss-seeks-ministers-intervention-over-looming-strike-by-unions.html |

Anambra elders name Ezeife, 12 others in panel to resolve Obiano, Ngige, Arthur Eze’s rift Anambra State Elders and Stakeholders’ Forum has named a former governor, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife and 12 others as members of a 13-man peace committee to intervene in the rift between oil magnate, Arthur Eze and Governor Willie Obiano. Ezeife, a former governor of the state and the other prominent members of the committee were asked to also intervene in the rift between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and Eze. The 13-man panel, the forum said, was equally mandated to look into the crisis between the governor and 13 suspended traditional rulers in the state. The development was the outcome of the meeting of the elders and stakeholders forum held on Tuesday, September 8, at Nimo, in the Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. After the meeting, the national president of the forum and former Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Anthony Iguh, told reporters that the stakeholders could not afford to continue to keep quiet in the midst of the rifts, which he described as distractions. Aside Ezeife, other members of the committee include the retired Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice G. U. Ononiba, the chairman of the panel; a former Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Pita Ejiofor, secretary; Justice Paul Obidigwe and Professor P. N. C. Umeadi. The panel has the mandate to identify the immediate and remote causes of the disputes and submit a report within 30 days. Obiano recently suspended 13 traditional rulers in the state for traveling with Eze to Abuja to visit President Muhammadu Buhari without his permission. The matter later saw Ngige and Eze engage themselves in a verbal fight. https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/anambra-elders-name-ezeife-12-others-in-panel-to-resolve-obiano-ngige-arthur-ezes-rift/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved an additional N8.9 billion for COVID-19 hazard allowance for all health workers in the country. This was announced on Thursday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force PTF on COVID-19, Mr. Boss Mustapha, during the task force’s media briefing in Abuja. He recalled that the recently called industrial action by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), as well as a threat by other professionals in the health sector, had dominated public discuss in the last few days. According to him, while appreciable progress has been made in the negotiations to resolve the issues, it must be underscored that the nation is in a global public health emergency situation that has impacted negatively on all aspects of lives including the economy and finances of the government. “This has made it imperative for all citizens irrespective of their professions and particularly health workers to reawaken their sense of humanity and patriotism. “The health and survival of our dear nation is important and we should eschew any action that will diminish the gains made in the containment of the pandemic so far. “I am pleased to announce that Mr. President has graciously approved additional N8.9bn for COVID-19 hazard allowance to all medical health workers. In addition, the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for hospitals and isolation centres will be given priority,” Mustapha said https://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-approves-n8-9b-hazard-allowance-for-health-workers/ |
The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has shut down 13 gaming offices in the state. Mr Liye Anthony, Head of Gaming in the agency, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Sunday. Anthony said that the operation, which began on Thursday, had so far shut down five offices of bet9ja and King Bet respectively, two Access Bet offices and one office of Derby Lotto. He said that there were about 1,500 gaming offices across the state operating illegally without due registration and license. According to him, the exercise will continue until all the illegal gaming offices are shut down. “We will continue to go after them until all the operators of the gaming companies regularized their operations and obtain the needed license to operate in the state,” he said. The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Zaid Abubakar, had told newsmen that apart from operating illegally, the gaming companies were mopping about N2.0 billion monthly from the state and were not paying a kobo to the state government as tax. He also said that the operators of the gaming companies were equally required by law to integrate their operations into the KADIRS Service Software, stressing that the companies failed to do so. https://dailypost.ng/2020/09/13/kaduna-govt-shuts-down-bet9ja-access-bet-king-bet-others-offices/ |
