You should be happy plus, maybe because you're from African descendant have you ever think about that?

She probably did think about that. The original poster, Chelley, hasn't been active for the past five years. It's too bad, I would have liked to find out how she is doing and if she ever gave a Nigerian or other African man a chance.

Culture / Re: Why Non-africans Blacks Get Offended When They Are Called "african"? by NYWM1(m): 9:38pm On May 13, 2011
caribchic:

I agree with you, as an afro-trini i have no problem with being called african as in my ethnicity. However i am really proud to be a trini so if someone thinks that i'm from Africa i will simply correct them and let them know that 'african is my ethnicity but trini thats my nationality'. It has nothing to do with being insulted, ashamed or whatever.
Caribchic, I have a friend who is an Afro-Trinidadian woman. Just like you, she refers to her ethnicity as African, especially in the context of distinguishing from Trinidadians of Indian descent.

How about Mae Jemison?

Mae Jemison: The first black female astronaut to go into space (who is light-skinned) had no discernible European ancestry in her admixture test. Out of all the famous guinea pigs, I expected her test to come back with the most mixed ancestry. Not. Her ancestry reveals her to be 84% sub-Saharan African descent, 13% East Asian, and 3% Native American. Researchers were unable to find a conclusive match for her in terms of a specific African tribe. Researchers explained her high East Asian ancestry (for black Americans) to the fact that Chinese laborers were sent to Mississippi - her family's ancestral state - in the late 1800s, so apparently one of her great-grandfathers may have been such a laborer. She was surprised to be of Asian descent , although she indicated that people had told her such during her travels to Asia. She figured that it was just traces of Native American ancestry.

I was also surprised about Mae Jemison. My supposition was similar to yours.

I usually hear people say she doesn't look like anyone from Africa, but yet those same people would not doubt her being of African descent.

Thanks for posting this. I am a white American Christian man. I have no connection to Nigeria nor have I every visited, but I know a few Nigerians who came to America.  I do enjoy learning about other cultures and I would like to learn about the experiences of NL members who are in Nigerian/non-Nigerian relationships.

What I want you lot to do is post celebrities (photos or text) who are part of the African diaspora (e.g Beyonce, typical, and, I don't know. . . Michelle Obama  ) and talk about where they look like they (or their family) originally came from in Africa. For example for Brazilian footballer Pele maybe you would say he looks Nigerian or preferably (and more helpfully) an ethnic group like he looks Yoruba or Hausa, Asante etc. All this is just a fun way of seeing what typical facial features , body builds etc. that are common amongst Africans because I'm a bit bad at spotting who looks like what. Don't take posts as fact or a way of claiming anybody (because African like to do that a lot) it's just fun.  wink

In the spirit of fun speculation, let me throw a tough one. How about Vanessa L. Williams? I chose a photo that should predate any cosmetic surgery she may have had. Is she too mixed or can anyone speculate? This should be interesting.  grin

Seems more like he admitted that using them for sex. Having sex and wanting a relationship isn't really admitting that he wants to be with them.

It seems too much of a contradiction to me. He admits a seemingly strong attraction to AA women, but he rules out a real relationship with one. If he is that much attracted to them, why rule out that possibility? Could it be his belief that most AA women dislike African men prevents him?

I am African and I am glad AAW do not like us.

As for me, I like fuccking AAW, afterwards I give them 20 dollars, most of them are my coworkers

Marriage wise AFrican> Asian> Indian> White.    AAW do not even come into the picture

I am yet to meet an AAM-NW relationship! I know I will personally kill my sister if she does that!
That is unfortunate, Kobojunkii. Why would you rule out a real relationship with an AA woman despite your admitted attraction to them?

Mrs. Eve:

That is not true, I have seen very handsome West African men and I even seen some West African men that are dark and FIOOOOONE!  I mean we don't ALL like light skinned or pale skinned men.  Well, I don't!  I like my meat dark and well done!

Where did you hear that Most African American women do not like African men?  You a damn lie! I have seen alot of AA women with African men are you crazy?  Not ALL AFRICAN MEN CHASE WHITE WOMEN OR ASIAN WOMEN,

My husband's family is PRO BLACK AND AFRICAN, they will not marry or date anyone but black or African,  THEY WERE HAPPY to see that I was black, they boldly told me in my face that they prefer people that do not have to sun bathe, I knew what they meant.  As I said people have their preferences and we can have them without JUSTIFYING AND PUTTING DOWN others in doing so.

I am sorry poster.THERE ARE ALOT OF AA WOMEN WITH AFRICAN MEN SUGA, and ALL AFRICAN MEN ARE NOT UGLY, I have seen some so fiooooooooooone ooh lawd!  Okay, Let me look at Furry Willy's picture I have to snap back!  Now that ONE UGLY AFRICAN!  lipsrsealed
I also believe it is a myth that most African American women dislike Nigerian/African men. I think it is much more likely AA women are cautious about African men than actually dislike them. Those are two completely different things.

Mrs. Eve, that is wonderful that your husband's family was so accepting of you. Do you know if they ever had apprehensions about their son marrying an AA woman or were they always supportive of his choices?

Mrs. Eve:

Poster,

Traditionally divorce is not encouraged in traditional families, however the modernized society encouraging divorce because it have became monopolized and capitalized, it cost more to divorce than it cost to get married, AINT THAT SOME ISH?

I am from a traditional family and we do not believe in divorce so is my husband's family, we believe in making IT WORK, and people do not have that value nowadays if they do not come from traditional families that is,

Biblically speaking Divorce is a no no and if you divorce your spouse, you are to remain single because if you have intimacy with someone that is not your spouse, you have committed adultery.  Now if you are divorced due to sexual immortality then there a loophole out of the marriage however, it is encouraged to stay married and work it out,

I know most people ASSUMED ALL AMERICANS are divorce hungry but that why ASSUMPTION is deadly because you assume what you don't know and lose out even worse die,
Amen Mrs. Eve. You are so right!
Romance / Re: Dumped For Being A Nigerian by NYWM1(m): 4:12am On Dec 21, 2010
Shy-One:

@ OP

I am soo ashamed to admit this - but I blew my fiancee off when he first contacted me on the internet because he was living in Africa.  I didn't even know the Nigeria part or Nigeria's reputation.  It was that I am not unattractive so I didn't have the need to meet someone online and do anything with them at all.  Also, I wasn't interested in dating anyone period.  Then after I shared with my family that this Nigerian man is emailing me - my family scared me really bad and told me all kinds of things about Nigerians and scammers and all of this scary stuff that they had read online and saw on tv.  My husband had died and my family was overly protective of me and didn't want me to fall in the wrong hands because I was crying all the time and I just wasn't myself mentally or physically.  Also, the long distance thing makes it "sooo much more work"  and I had no energy because of the deep depressions that were hitting me constantly - it was hard enough just to stay awake for 4 hours or 2 hours a day because the depression robs you of the will to live.

But I will tell you what - He NEVER GAVE UP, NEVER.  He continued to email me until I started to respond and THANK GOD he didn't give up on me.  He filled my inbox with emails - we started to chat then online - he taught me how to chat online because I didn't know.  Then he started mailing packages to my home from Nigeria - to my front door.  We talked so much that it was as if he was in the living room with me - we talked as soon as I woke up, on and off throughout the day, everyday  and again right before I went to sleep.

My advice to you is to NOT GIVE UP if this person is still on your mind.  Reach out.  Or move on.  In my situation and in my case/his case - we are still going strong and it is almost one year.  I have begged his forgiveness for being "racist and buying into categorizing him" - I ignore the naysayers now and actually my family CANNOT WAIT to meet him and are looking forward to our marriage as they have never seen me so happy in a very long time.  He has spoken several times with my family on the phone.  He has sent videos and pictures and gifts and money and in return I have done the same with him to Nigeria.

I love him sooo deeply.
Shy-One, I am very intrigued by your story and your fiance's determination. May I ask what drew him to you?

Anyhow so I just stumbled upon these two models. Both have strong african facial features, with albino-looking skin colour. Which contributes to a very striking yet unusual look.

Yes, that look can be very striking. Another model with albinism is Kenosha Robinson. I think she is beautiful.

Romance / Re: Why Do African Guys Like Marrying/dating African-american Gals So Much? by NYWM1(m): 6:05am On Nov 11, 2010
DaRapture:

Aight, I'm actually being real here, and not foolish in asking this question. I know that there are actually quite a few African guys who have married or date with the intention of marrying an AA girl,  for the sol purpose of getting citizenship and or other ludicrous intentions in mind and I'm sure most of you'all are of aware of this as well. Though at the same time it would be foolish to ignore the counter fact of that their are many and growing fast,  unions between these two groups in which are actually genuinely formed in the minds and intentions of both the involved individuals,  and it is these whom I care to focus on.

Well, I first want to say that I've noticed an ever increasing number of  YOUNG African and Caribbean guys whom are choosing to date/marry AA women over their own,  which I personally have absolutely no problem with.

I just would like to know if any of you have any insight as to why it is you think so many more African men are hitching it up with AA gals these days and at such an continuous expanding rate?
I think this is a fascinating topic. Unfortunately, I have heard of Nigerian men that marry these women for the sole purpose of getting citizenship, but I don't know if those men are more the exception than the norm. I do know of a few Nigerian men married to African American women who are genuinely good husbands. I hope we can hear more from these good men to dispel the bad ones.

Vedren:

To me, is seems now it just doesn't look as bulky as it did before, I know makeup can also create this appearance, so hard to tell.  As long as it still has its African feature is what is important to me.  I don't exactly disagree with nose jobs, it's when you try completely altering it completely away from your ethnic background is when I find it ridiculous.
If Rihanna did have a nose job, it seems that it was minor.

Siena:

What does one's past relationships have to do with their looks? This thread is about who you find more attractive / beautiful, not about their morals.

@ topic: In my opinion, Jennifer Lopez.
Although it is true, her looks and her morals are two different issues, it always bothered me that Jennifer Lopez divorced two husbands and her current husband divorced his wife to marry her. She is a fine looking woman on the outside, but I cannot look at her and not think of her history. At least Beyonce seems committed to her husband and that is a good thing in my book.
