Mortiple:Very true. |
Despite this, all the money the Federal government will generate this year will not even be enough to meet our recurrent expenditures and we have to borrow to meet our capital expenditure. ![]() |
Thread cleaned! Enough of insults please! |
^ can you give me the link to the thread/post pls ? |
i was actually thinking of twins, a girl and a boy, its the reason why i have been "doubling" my efforts in the last couple of our "discussions" ![]() |
Of course I know you made them for both of us. Let's go inside and enjoy them while we have our regular "discussion" before our customers start making orders. |
Really? You think? I strongly disagree though. Those people you mentioned are fit for ministers when OSAMA with a heart becomes our president (sorry for being redundant). They are not president-material; they are not fit to lead today's Nigeria. Nigeria ti baje ju gbogbo eleyi lo. However, I'm not saying that if they eventually get elected they won't do "something". They will, but there won't be a significant change after their 4-100yr service(s). Plus she looks like a fragile woman to me. She's gonna cry herself to sleep every night IF she becomes the president. You see the way uncle GEJ is crying up and down that they're chasing him with juju-?----her's will be worse. ![]()
Well an Osama with heart in person of Buhari offered himself and three times Nigerians rejected him and voted for PDP to continue their misrule. Until we have another Osama with heart or Pastor Bakare's "good dictator" offering himself for service we have to make use of the best we have and Iweala is among those best. You really dont know Iweala. Iweala and fragile should not be in the same sentence. I have seen this woman handled tough criticisms from men/women that thought they knew better in an open forum while she was finance minister under obj and she made them look like kids, suffice to say that if she is fragile she wont be among the World Bank MDs. |
nakedall:Honestly, I wish that happens if he can afford to buy it from Lagos State Government. It will only ensures the project is sustained. I have a feeling that Operation Feed the Nation (OFN) would have long died, buried and forgotten without Obasanjo Farms Nigeria (OFN) to remind us of the project. Let's set our priorities right, the key thing is that food have to be produced and serious measures have to be taken NOW, else we will surfer in the future. It does not matter whether it's being produced by the public or by the private sector. |
Bliss4Lyfe:Hmnnn, that is a very big compliment o, make my head no come explode o. Thanks! ![]() |
I hope you know that being a president is not solely about the ability to accumulate 20 wives in 6 months-- ![]() You too you want madam Iweala? - Ala ti o le se niyen. Dream that can never (and I hope will not) come true.
Dont worry, if I become the president you will remain the 1st lady, and I wont marry more wives ![]() But seriously, Okonjo Iweala is not about speaking grammar, she is one intelligent woman I know. And my dear it is not rice and beans or godfatherism to get to the level she is now especially in world dominated and controlled by men. Also if you know about her activities while she was Finance Minister under a tough obj, you will know that she is not someone that can be pushed over by some unintelligent boko haram men. Think about it, how many ministers negotiated their terms of engagement before accepting to work with GEJ? I agree with you that the problem is with us Nigerians and that is why it might be difficult for someone like her to be president. Nigerians are not ready for a change or many are just to dumb or brainwashed not to recognize the need for a change or the change we need. When Nigerians are ready, they will only vote for the likes of Iweala, Fashola, Ameachi, Chime and may be El Rufai, people with track records of achievements and passion to serve. |
I'm not a Nigerian so---it's really non of my business. I'm just saying you Nigerians need people like OSAMA (but with a heart) to lead you. Who do I have in mind? Absolutely no one.
Are you sure you dont have me in mind? ![]() @Topic I have no problem with Okonjo, I have said it many times on this forum, that she is currently my best choice from the East of the Niger. In fact I wish GEJ can handover power to her right now or let her run the government while he remains the ceremonial president. |
rooney83:I have replied your email. |
i'm not used to the idea of starting a farm with a bank loan or grant. That sounds western, imo. However, i dont doubt its possible people do that in nigeria too. coming from a line of farmers on both sides, i cant really say for sure but all this is news to me.
Well it was easier for your parents in those days cos they had inherited lands, tranning and facilities from their parents. Imagine a fresh graduate of Agric Science planning to go into farming today without inherited land and money, where will he start from? That is why it is beyond just telling the unemployed graduates to go back into farming? Farming today requires a lot of capital and it a very risky venture. I know someone who invested in fish farming, made a terrible loss and later died of heart attack. |
that's impressive- never heard of the like in nigeria. at least to the best of my knowledge.
Quite a number of former state governors did similar things. I remember the former Governor of Ebonyi before the current one, had this poultry program, where they were training, people, gave them grants, chicks, drugs and feeds on credit with the hope of buying the chickens from them after some months. I heard a number of the people abused it. So the problem is both on the government and the people side. |
^^sorry about your late uncle but there agricultural institutes within nigeria itself which handle the issue of seed types and strains. bringing in seeds from outside has to be done through the proper channels unless you have special exemptions to this rule, i should think. i doubt you can just do it arbitrarily like that because there are so many factors to be brought into consideration. as per your friend in fishery- i dont think starting a fish farm is that hard. Was she applying for grants in nigeria or in the US? ![]() i dont think most nigerian start up farms get any grants though i could be wrong.
It is not as easy as u stated. Difficult for any farmer to succeed in Nigeria with bank loans, and most of those government announced grants/loans are not well managed and usually end up in the pocket of few politicians claiming to be farmers. |
@Kobojunkie Am glad you understand the issues, all the experiences you recount are not so different from mine. I know there are lot of Nigerians who with lil motivation are willing to go into farming as well, but somehow all these government encouragements/interventions/grants have so far failed to yield desired results due to the level of corruption in our society. While they consider the alternatives, I still maintain that it is not out of place for Government to invest in agriculture and later sell/hand it over to private sectors, especially such large scale farming. |
Fogman:Most countries in d world including Nigeria allowed dual citizenship, I was referring to many of them that do not have Nigerian passport or whose passports have long expired. See, I live abroad and I travel a lot, I also know some Nigerian ambassadors. I have not seen a Nigerian embassy with long queue of applicants as you see in Lagos and Abuja. Anyways, I am not against the policy. Just asking so we know how effective it really is. |
Kobojunkie:I know and understand the complications surrounding private sector investment in Agriculture in Nigeria because I am close to a number of people involve. I dont want to go into the issues but believe me, it is really not encouraging even with all the announced Government interventions/assistance. That said, if the private sector are not encouraged to produce food, nothing stops a thinking Government doing so and later sell/hand it over to private sector after it has become viable. What is key is that something must be done now before the crisis hit us unprepared. |
Fogman:To the best of my knowledge, majority of the applicants are Nigerians born abroad or who have been living abroad for years and now wish to visit home. However, we can still not compare the the number of Nigerians seeking foreign visas to foreigners seeking Nigerian visa. Tell me of any Nigerian embassy abroad that witness the crowd you see in many foreign embassies in Lagos and Abuja. |
Question: How many foreigners are begging to come to our country compare to the number of our citizens begging to travel to other country? Honestly, I dont know how many foreigners are begging to visit a country that can not guarantee 24hr electricity, pipe borne water and security of life and properties. Moved to travel Section. |
I have no problem with either the public or private sector investing in agriculture. What is important is that we have sufficient food. I would have been happier if what we are discussing is an action plan, but the news is that "Lagos may". So we are not sure if Lagos will eventually do it or not. It has been estimated that few years from now, the world will experience food-shortage crises, any forthright thinking government should know that promoting/investing in agriculture is the way to go now. |
kulutempa:Exactly! @ the bold. So if per chance we have a clueless, non performing Governor/President, we will be stuck with him/her for 6years. ![]() Dis Guy:Dont be too sure, miracles still happen in national Assembly by the power of mammon. ![]() |
lol ![]() How about Ogunlakaiye Bank? ![]() |
