https://www.marketwatch.com/story/china-stockpiles-crude-as-prices-collapse-2020-04-22BEIJING — China, the world’s biggest energy consumer, is taking advantage of a plunge in global oil prices due to the coronavirus outbreak to build up its stockpiles of crude. Imports rose 4.5% in March over a year earlier even as the world’s second-largest economy shut down to fight the virus and demand collapsed. For the first quarter of the year imports were up 5%. The price collapse is battering state-owned oil producers but is a boon to Chinese drivers, chemical producers and factories. It gives Beijing a chance to add to a strategic petroleum reserve that is meant to insulate the country against possible supply disruptions |

RabbiDoracle: Brent has broken down.
The government will need to learn the hard way.
They have been paying lip service to diversification.
There should be another devaluation in my opinion . Maybe to N500. Free floating exchange rate is the solution. |

onegentleguy: https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/A-Massive-Wave-Of-Shut-Ins-Fails-To-Halt-Oil-Price-Crash.html
Good move... The shut-ins from some opec and opec+ members means reduced overall production accross board, which will help close the gap in supply-demand margin(offset a part of the huge demand shortfall) and create a cushion to support price rise.
This though will amount to a temporal relief.(short term) Long term benefits would come from returning to the good old days of compititive demand, or at the very least something commensurate to it. ...and this can only be possible when the world comes close to effectively winning the war with covid-19.
I however think that as economic activities gradually pick up in countries, it would be a plus to supplement these efforts, barring any further regression in the spread of the virus.
These struggles only highlight the fact that the days of relying heavily on oil is fast diminishing. ...so most oil producing nations will urgently need to think outside the box. Only if our leaders can act. There can be NO better time to implement cost cutting measures, address certain key structural issues and diversify our economic base than now !!
Selah The basic law of demand and Supply is affecting the Oil prices. Since Economies and industries are shut down, demand will drop. Anyone buying Oil now, is taking advantage of low prices to stockpile. The solution is to open up the Economy and industries on time. If this lockdown continue to Q3, this year is tossed. |

Sectorally, are you happy being invested in oil marketing sector? The new Subsidy policy will affect the down stream sector. |

abuhusna1: I need some incite from the bosses as to why do so many people sell their shares on the closure of register than wait for the dividends. Is it that its always good to sell during that period and buy nack after the dividends payment. "Dividend Hunters" When a company post impressive dividend, the the demand for the company's stock will increase. This will also drive up stock price of the company before the closure of register . After the closure of register "Dividend Hunters" will start selling, while Investors hold on to their shares. Your motive to sell depends on who you are Are you are Trader or Dividend Hunter or an Investor. |

OPEC+ Cut Could Cause Oil To Crash To $15 Dear , OPEC+ has officially agreed to a 9.7 million barrel per day cut and oil markets have reacted exactly as we said they would. WTI crashed from $28 when the meeting was announced to just $22 on Friday. Our head trader explained in his Friday column exactly why this happened, but more importantly, he outlined exactly when our readers should start looking for discount oil stocks. While there is currently no clear data on just how bad the demand destruction caused by COVID-19 has been, estimates suggest we could be looking at a 30 million bpd oversupply. With that in mind, $15 WTI and lower remains a very real possibility. If you aren’t already a member of Global Energy Alert, make sure to sign up for your risk-free trial right away and read our latest reports on the OPEC+ cut and where oil markets will go from here.
