TouchDown: As your brother's keeper, you should have asked him who/what is Macbeth in the context of Achebe and Clark...

grin
Nigerians tried, they wanted more African/Nigerian work in the curriculum but they found Soyinka's work very absurd and they had to replace him with a foreigner.
Drama: Shakespeare
Prose: Achebe
Poetry: JP Clark

BluIvy: I am sure these people are asking these questions raght now about the so called " Father of African literature" . Very funny
Unfortunately, more countries are asking for Achebe's work to be translated to their local languages so that millions of their citizens will read the amazing work of Africa Greatest Writer, the Father of African Literature.

50 languages and counting...

babyosisi: You quoted me talking about the nobel referencing peace prize and then tell me it s about the peace prize
Huh huh
Does the thought of politiiing any if their awards alone not put a dent in the whole award?
That is te point here
I just told him he was lost yet he still finds it hard to understand.

Aigbofa: Such is life, most of the people who changed the world through their art or inventions are not easily recognized by name.
Outside of Nigeria and literary circles, most people in the world would not know who Achebe was. You may want to convince yourself otherwise but that is the truth.
Such is life, the ones that changed the world and the world appreciate what they did are recognized by name.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m):
@ TouchDown

I just asked my cousin and he said: "Shakespeare I know, Achebe I know, JP Clark I know but who is Soyinka?".

Ola Johnson: How does this correlate with my post you are quoting. No wonder JAMB keeps making money.
So you still need help?
Anyway, you still don't get it. YOU ARE LOST!
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 8:02pm On May 19, 2013
Even in Nigerian schools, hardly is any Soyinka's work part of the curriculum.

That Nobel Price was a mirage!
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 8:00pm On May 19, 2013
^^^

I'll give Soyinka 10 more Nobel Prices and Chinese people will still not find his work interesting to read.

Ola Johnson: Peole from the SE it is high time you said, Chinua Achebe, REST IN PEACE. And stop this unnecessary effort of yours at making him what he knew he wasn't hence his rejecting it.
Some people are called 'Heroes' but they dispute it, what do you say about that?
Is it not humility?

Please Moderators, there is a difference between a jab and an insult.
Some posters that don't know what they are talking about deserve a jab at their ignorance.

I don't see why my posts should be hidden.

Aigbofa: It is a dubious title. He didn't want any part of it and that is why he rejected it.
Now a little sense of humour after all these unnecessary debate.

cheesy cheesy cheesy
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 5:12pm On May 19, 2013
Now it seems you are coming back to your senses after wandering in the wilderness for "how old are you?"

Let Achebe enjoy his baseless, insulting and ignorant title.
Same way Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin etc enjoyed theirs.

Peace!

ROSSIKE: Soul Music:

''Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the United States in the 1950s and early 1960s, combining elements of African American gospel music and rhythm and blues.''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_music

Literature: ''History: The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the earliest known literary works. This Babylonian epic poem arises from stories in the Sumerian language. Although the Sumerian stories are older (probably dating to at least 2100 B.C.), it was probably composed around 1900 BC. The epic deals with themes of heroism, friendship, loss, and the quest for eternal life.''

Lesson:..huh
You didn't get, did you?
Go and tell the "organization" to categorize Literature when "they" crown people with such titles as "Father of".

Damn, I'll fire you if I were your boss, seriously.
Lack of judgment, lack of perception, can't even differentiate between virtual and actual.

A very distressing issue with people in Nigeria; I know it all whereas they cannot balance little things.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 4:45pm On May 19, 2013
all4naija: What is the father of MODERN African literature for in many comments here and from search engines? It is clear there is no even consistency with the term, father of African literature. That to me is questionable.
... because it is not a crown but a mere recognition. Some people are just adding "modern" to it as a respect to pioneer African writers that lived before Achebe.

I thought you said I was arguing over what I know nothing about.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 4:41pm On May 19, 2013
It's funny people are fighting over a "virtual" crown given to someone by millions of people.
Wole Soyinka should have known better; maybe he should start distributing fliers disputing it or call on the "organization" that bestowed "Father of African Literature" on Achebe to withdraw it.

What a Shame!
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 4:36pm On May 19, 2013
all4naija: Most of you can not differentiate between Father of African literature and father of MODERN African literature. So, it is clear many of you are just arguing about what you know nothing much about. Why will I have a debate with such people is something I can't relate with in this particular thread.
The Hindu: "Chinua Achebe, the Nigerian novelist seen by millions as the father of African literature"
From Australia: "'Father of African literature' Chinua Achebe dies at 82"
The East African: "Going out with a bang, not a whimper: Father of African literature dies"

So what is your argument again?
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 4:24pm On May 19, 2013
all4naija: Only in your twisted mind you asserted such biased claim. Please, get something doing with your life than trying to cajole yourself into what you don't have single understanding of.

Mind you, Chinua Achebe is not a recipient of the highest award in literature, the Noble Prize for literature, which Wole Soyinka can boast - if necessarily required of him.
Wole Soyinka could win 10 Nobel prizes for all I care but he is not recognized as Father of African Literature.
Father of African Literature is a recognition and not a crown, fortunately for Achebe, he got that.

A good pop singer/song writer with multiple awards and record sells who goes on a rampage disputing Michael Jackson as the King of Pop Music will be seen as a jealous and crazy man.

This is where Soyinka is heading to unfortunately.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by Obiagu1(m): 4:04pm On May 19, 2013
Sorry folks, you can argue till the end of the world but the only viable discussion will remain: Achebe is the Father of African Literature. No other name will be associated with Father of African Literature.

The more Wole Soyinka disputes this fact, being a writer himself, the more people see him as a very jealous man.

No one crowns people with such titles as King of this, Father of that. People just get associated with such titles and that perception remains till the end.

To Wole Soyinka, sorry, you were never associated with King or Father of anything and don't fight someone, when he is dead, because you were not recognized as such and you can't force people to recognize you.
Go and erect a statue of your Nobel price in your room and sleep with it, at least you got something to keep you company in your lonely room.

Cheers!

Gboliwe: according to you, Nl was fine when you came onboard last year. I have been on Nl since 2010 and that last year when you came on was the peak of its decline. It can never fall or be worse than what we experienced last year. We are re-routing back to glory and fame attributed to the forum. What you see sexkil do is what should be done. It is very necessary.
Hopefully, the forum would be totally restored and the kids, the bigots and noisemakers shut up
Yeah right, very necessary but a bit too late. With the kind of people we had before and with enough control over languages used here, Politics Section would have been big.

Hope not, I think they will be back with the reduced insults going on here.

I hope Beaf comes back without all those attempts to track him down in real life.

List of people that ruined Politics Section:

DayoKanu: Zero discussion, countless repetitions, endless children photos, turned politics section to a playground.
eko_ile/Aigbofa: Too much vile, was not banned like Easterners with same dose of foul mouth, so they left.
Alh. Harem: Metamorphoses into different tribes, inundated discussions with lies.
Moderators: Scheming to give the Westerners the upper hand, frustrated some guys and they left.

shymexx: You definitely don't know ekt_bear. He's more pro-Yoruba than 99.999% of all the Yoruba bigots on nl. If he could have his way, he would take Yoruba's out of Nigeria tomorrow morning. That's how passionate he's about his people. I don't think anyone from the west can hunt him down - he's probably just bored of the darn forum and the redundant stupidity.
Ask him about fstranger

I wonder why you should complain when the gang of 10 from the SW were trying to track down Beaf in real life and kill him. Only God knows the amount of threat he received.
EzeUche was witch-hunter by men from the West.
OnlyTruth was banned.
BkBabe96 was arrested at the Mexico border with 5kg of white powder.
Katsumoto is always on the prowl for Ojukwu/Biafra thread. He is very much around but Biafra threads don't sell anymore.
ekt_bear was hunted down by his own people.
Ndu_Chucks got what he wanted, his nemesis OnlyTruth is no more around.
Mekusxx was hunted down by the gang from the West together with their Moderator corroborator.
shangotor gave up after trying to forge a united South with the likes of eko_ile telling him he is a fool.
physics QED has exhausted his history knowledge, probably reading up more for a come back.

The remaining men from the East received countless bans from the Mods while the likes of DayoKanu and Negro roamed freely with their 50 moniker arsenal. (Men from the East got class cool)

We have seen the light. Time is right to do away with the old South and form new alliances.
SE/SS/MB will be the new South.
A place where resource control will be our goal without having the SW sabotaging it.

I don't tell you what you should do. The rules are there and we follow it so you are as well.
A comment that did not violate any rule should not be hidden else you are running your own agenda.

You can hide all the posts you want but I think you are doing a bad job.
