Let me just state this: if you're tired of your husband, be Honorable, move out of the house he built then file for a divorce. If you brought a woman from the gutters in Nigeria, sent her to school and she no longer respects you, don't kill her ask her to leave and then file a divorce if you built the house. No one needs to commit murder because of marital disagreement. Buy even when you can no longer continue with the marriage, be honest with yourself, don't try to take property acquired by the other party. If you earn more than him, go rent another house and leave him with his house. You already won, he brought you to America and trained you in nursing school. No matter what he did, don't try to strip him of the property he spent all his youth acquiring, you'll be leaving him with no where to go except fight back and commit murder. I would blame all the men who kill their wives if only the wives walked away without claiming any assets. You divorce him and take every thing he's ever worked for at a time that he's long past his most productive years, then you deny him access to his kids, this is unnecessary. This winner takes all is extremely crude. It's more crude than shooting someone dead for robbing you of everything you ever worked for , |

Thanks Sheniqua for this prompt response. I have googled this already and have an idea of the requirements. I'll also love to know if its possible for an immigrant married to a citizen to obtain a student loan for the one year law school. I am particular about New York since my fiancée lives and works there and her parents also live there. I'll just keep an open mind. God bless you and Babyosisi though i'll still love to hear her view on my question. sheniqua: This is me |
@ Poster: Hello Babyosisi, i'm a lawyer currently practicing in LAGOS. I'm planning to join my fiancée in the US sometime next year. My question is; is it possible to get the certificate to practice law in New York? What are the likely obstacles i may encounter? Do you know of other Nigerians who studied law in Nigeria but now practice in the US? I know people from my university who now practice law in the UK after studying law in Nigeria and doing additional exams and masters in the UK but, i don't know about the US and my fiancée is a doctor. Please reply me. I know I'm coming late to the party as the thread is over 12 pages now but, please respond still. Thanks a million for your honest and selfless advice on this thread |
latest development: Airtel has blocked the new Opera Mini Handler being promoted here. They have also blocked this topic on any phone using their network. This means that those of us discussing their actions using UCbrowser can no longer find this topic on Nairaland. These Airtel guys have really drawn a battle line with their loyal customers and the hackers out there. They have now become dictators, censoring our every action. They think we have no option; there's nothing we can do. We have no choice but to use their crappy web browsers and still pay them any price they desire...I'm watching to see who wins |
A lawyer may request a judge to excuse himself where he believes the judge may not exhibit impartiality in d case. However such a lawyer must show verifiable evidence as to the judges likelihood of bias. In this case no concrete evidence was made out against d judge. The lawyers were clearly incompetent. Their delay offends the accused's right under the constitution. Stay of proceedings cannot be granted in a fundamental right matter & it will be silly to apply for it. Taking a whole year to apply for change of a judge shows incompetence. Amending charges shows they did a bad job from the word go. I think d efcc made a mistake by hiring 5 sans to handle only one case. In any case these sans are always like dat. U need to see some of them in court always veering off point & wasting everybody's time |
I did it and the business failed spectacularly. Am still bankrupt and trying to pick the pieces of my life. The criticism and condemnation from family and friends has remains the most painful part. Prepare urself b4 u take the plunge |
the question we should be asking is; what is the state of the infrastrure for internet in the school? How fast is the internet there? What do the staff & students do with the internet? If what they do is mostly high bandwidth consuming stuff like live video streaming, video conferencing, cloud computing, HD video downloads, gaming etc and all at no cost to the students then its possible. Remember every student is given a laptop upon admission, If you give such to any group of nigerian youths, eh! I leave you to imagine the rest. |
with my experience in criminal trials i think it is too early to conclude that the suspects cannot be convicted. Under the Evidence Act what is needed to obtain a conviction in a rare case is corroboration. This means the victimn must be prepared to testify. The corroboration may be in the form of a 2nd witness, blood samples, video or voice recordings or other forensic evidence. Corroboration is the crucial link we need in this case to prove the allegation beyond reasonable doubt. I think only a lazy lawyer will conclude that a conviction cannot be obtained in this case. The voices in the video can serve as corroboration. What more, one of the suspects can even testify against the others. I dare them to put all the information they know online and watch lawyers demolish the case. |

@ Klas i have this poser for you; in company law, what is the position of existing shareholders in a company when a n investor has acquired majority shareholding in their company? do they lose their shareholding automatically ??remember from the facts you just supplied me here, the N3 were not liquidated but sold as exiting companies. |

as a lawyer i think what the govt has done is wrong and without any basis in nigerian law. Yes the cbn has power to revoke banking licences but the company that previously owned the licence does not cease to exist until it is liquidated. Now, the assets of bank phb still belong to the company. The govt cannot assume ownership of those assets just like that. The NASS MUST PASS A LAW EMPOWERING govt to nationalise the assets of the company. In the absence of this the govt must buy up the companies b4 taking ownership. I expect the shareholders to go to court and i foresee a verdict similar to that of savannah bank. This case is also similar to the Sanusi bailout mess in which the cbn gave out a whopping #600billion without appropriation. It was illegal but he escaped because this is nigeria. In any law abiding nation he should be in jail. Only in nigeria do ppl run a nation without lawshould be in jail. Only in nigeria do ppl run a nation without laws |
@ poster i don't blame you! It is because you inherited some run down property then you think everyone should cough out money on ppty tax. for your information all states in naija including lagos collect an annual ppty tax known as tenement rate which was increased by the fashola govt. If youre not paying then, again it shows how you have been shielded from the reality that is affecting the majority. I will also advice you to ask ppl who actually built or bought their own ppties to tell u the huge upfront taxes they pay to acquire their ppties. Ppl pay as much as 40% of ppty values to obtain c of o, & building permits. This is in addition to the huge cost of purchasing land in lagos. so get informed you dumbo! Those who the gods have cracked their nuts should not pretend to tell other ppl how to crack theirs |

I remember incident in sch. i was having a disagreement wit my ex gf. She suddenly started raising her voice n being really aggressive. I sensed that she wanted to smash all d electronics in my room n was deliberately building up tension to justify her action. She tried everything to provoke me, pointing her fingers into my face n all. I remained calm all thru n one moment when she shifted her attention, i quickly lifted her up n carried her out of d room n locked d door behind us. She kept raining abuses on me n tore my t-shirt to shreds leaving me wit only my boxers. Then, suddenly, in d full glare of d crowd dat had gathered she dashed 4 my boxers n made to tear it. Ol boy, d next thing i knew was dat i had landed a kick on her chest. She fought back but, by the time i landed a few more blows on her she realised she was a girl and shouted 4 help. If i had not reacted so swiftly she would have stripped me stark naked in front of d crowd. Well, am against beating women but, women; pls, don't go strippin any man naked on d streets o! I can't guarantee what may happen to u. |

Doomed is a nation whose fate is controlled by witches. I'm not surprised. I've heard stories of how Atiku consults witches and makes sacrifices b4 elections. Its so unfortunate that most of our leaders are under the total control of witches |

So if the MINIMUM WAGE only applies to the FED GOVT workers why are we all getting worked up? i THINK UNTIL THE GOVT PROVIDES A MINIMUM WAGE FOR ALL WORKERS FED, STATE, LG AND PRIVATE I DONT THINK ITS WORTH IT because IT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE EXPLOITATION OFNIGERIAN WORKERS |

Thank you solomonjay, megastu like some senior lawyers is bringing the legal profession & d law sch to disrepute by insinuating that some lawyers are incapable of discharging their duties as lawyers after having been duly certified by the law sch. As for ojesus, he needs to go back to sch. His connections have given him easy money but Obviously, money cannot buy knowledge. |
ojesus:ur simply an uneducated retard. @forum: see this slowpoke wants to "entered" an argument with me. He can't even speak english! Can someone pls send this fool to school? |
ojesus:you must be one of those crooks who just found themselves in a position to enrich urself thru connections. We're talking of highly trained professionals trying to earn a honest livin in their own country. These employers are simply stealing the fruits of their employees' labour by underpaying them simply because these employees r helpless. Its unfortunate nigeria's govt has no law on minimum wages. In civilised countries govts regulate d minimum wage for every single profession. If they remove those laws their economies would crash like nigeria's. So,go get an education u little minded fool |
