The resourceful team player who was fondly called ‘The Black Magnet’ or ‘The Cat’, played as a goalkeeper for the pioneer Nigerian national football team, the Red Devils. Although the cause of his death has not been made known, the retired goaltender died yesterday Wednesday, December 2,2015 at the age of 90. Revealing the news, the general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Sanusi Mohammed said, “we heard from third party source, pulled a call through and his son confirmed it. For us, we thank God for a worthy life he lived. His records in the first national team remains sterling and excellent. Certainly, we shall participate in the burial arrangements by the time the family comes up with the programme of activities. It is our prayer that God will grant him eternal rest. We also send our condolences to his family.” The legendary goal keeper only conceded just five goals in his nine years of representing Nigeria till he retired from international football in 1958. As Nigeria’s first national goalkeeper, Pa Sam Ibiam dazzled millions with his wizardry on the field of play and brought immense honour to the country. But in his old age, he was said to have been abandoned. The late goalkeeper who also served as head coach for the Aba XI team was left alone in a bungalow at Unwana, a sleepy community in Afikpo, Ebonyi state. This was after his home was bombed during the civil war and it has since remained dilapidated. He lives in a small house attached to the bombed building. He however got succour recently during a special edition of MTN’s Who wants to be a millionaire. The 87-year-old (at that time) sporting hero went home with a cheque of one million Naira, and a 5.5KV generator after being helped by the duo of Azuh Arinze, editor of National Encomium, and popular actress, Stephanie Okereke. May his soul rest in perfect peace!

In the concluding part of her interview with Mr Dele Momodu, Diezani who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer in a London hospital said “I actually left $5.6billion in the NLNG alone but no one is talking about it. I’m not seeking to be praised but to be acknowledged that I made some little contributions. “That money could have been wasted on frivolities but I was determined to keep something for the incoming government once we lost the election.” Continuing, she recalled: “On 4th of May, Ngozi (Dr Okonjo-Iweala, ex-Minister of Finance) wrote to the President to release $2billion from the money to clear her table and pay contractors, which would have depleted the money to $3.6billion, but I said to the President we shouldn’t do that. “I explained what the accrued money was meant for and gave a detailed background of the account. Even in the past, Ngozi and the NSA had asked to be funded from it and I stood my ground because the money was meant for the gas project in Brass LNG in Bayelsa. Conoco Phillips pulling out affected it. “We wanted to run a gas economy. It was the money that made it possible for President Buhari to pay the bail-out. If I was corrupt, I would have spent the money on paying contractors who would have been too happy to do anything. I got calls from some of them promising kickbacks if I could pay but I refused and the rest is history.” Diezani said she was not surprised about the allegations of corruption, adding that Buhari, despite his impeccable pedigree was alleged to have had N2.8billion vanished under his nose. “Till this day no one has been able to prove that the then Major General Buhari stole a kobo,” she said.

Some days back, we reported that Toyin Aimakhu’s lawyers wrote a cease and desist letter to a blogger (and in extension, all bloggers) after a damaging piece was written about her. For the Nollywood actress, that was the last straw and she took to her Instagram page to call folks out for the many false stories written about her, plus she threatened to sue any more blog carrying false stories about her. Two days ago, Aimakhu announced that she has gotten an apology from the said blogger. According to her, she has accepted the apology. In October, Toyin responded to the question of whether she was willing to work on her marriage to estranged husband Adeniyi Johnson. She asserted that she is moving on with her career and wants everything to now be in the past.

Alhaji Yahaya Bello was born on 18th June 1975 in Agassa, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State to the family of Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi and Hajia Hawa Bello Oziohu. He is the last of six siblings. He started his early education in 1984 in LGEA Primary School, Agassa In Okene LGA. The greatness in him started manifesting early in his life when he was made the class prefect from class two. The position he held till he was made the school Head Boy in class six due to the leadership qualities identified in him by his peers and teachers. In 1989 he enrolled for College in Agassa Community Secondary School, Anyava, Agassa-Okene. His quest for qualitative education saw him changing schools five times until he finally settled for Government Secondary School, Suleja-Niger State, where he sat for his JSSCE. He came out with flying colours. He continued in the same school for his secondary education and wrote his SSCE Exams In 1994. He recorded another outstanding result in his SSCE. He immediately enrolled for ‘A’ level exams in Kaduna State Polytechnic Zaria in 1995 and proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria in 1996 to study Accounting. He graduated in 1999. His unquenchable thirst for higher education took him back to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2002. He bagged the degree in 2004. Whilst pursuing his Masters he also enrolled for professional certification with the Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN) at Jos (2002) and became a chattered fellow of ANAN in 2004. Alhaji Yahaya Bello working career started in 2001 when he was posted to Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for his NYSC mandatory service to his fatherland. He distinguished himself during the course of the service and was offered an appointment in the same office as Revenue Officer II. His hard work singled him out for promotion to accountant in a very short period. He was later transferred to head the Makurdi Zonal office Account Department. He has worked in various departments in the office and has risen to the post of Assistant Chief Accountant. It is worthy of note to state that Alhaji Yahaya Bello has served meritoriously and contributed his quota to the development of his father land. Alhaji Yahaya Bello is married with children. Applying his entrepreneurial skills, Alhaji Yahaya Bello mastered the art of informed stock trading and had a financial breakthrough right before the crash of the stock market. His stock portfolio investments cut across the oil and gas, finance, transportation, and agro related sectors. He then grew and expanded his real estate investments expanding into a number of states in the country. His business/investment clout in these sectors helped facilitate job opportunities for a number of unemployed graduates and youth particularly Kogi State indigenes. Alhaji Yahaya Bello can also been considered a public-spirited individual and a philanthropist per excellence. He currently funds three orphanage homes and sponsors hundreds of Kogi State undergraduates in various higher institutions both within and outside the country. His strong drive for community development inspired him to invest in various community projects. He loves reading, traveling, driving, soccer and boxing. Every individual is a political animal, as we must take interest in who governs us. The rot in Nigerian political landscape prompted him alongside other progressive young men and women to form Kogi Youth Arise Group. This group believes in positive change, which was why it threw its weight behind the candidature of Buhari/Osinbajo in the last presidential election. This group was responsible for mobilizing youths across the 239 wards in the State in support of GMB. Alhaji Yahaya Bello is the sole financier. Having achieved peaceful change at the national level, he has also offered himself as the change agent for the youths. Kogi State has been bedeviled by bad leadership since its creation in 1991. Our dear state is blessed with human and natural resources. The state houses the largest steel and Cement Companies in Africa. She is the richest in solid minerals in Nigeria. Lokoja, the state capital is the first capital of Northern Nigeria and the administrative seat of our colonial fathers. Kogi state has boundaries with eight other states and the FCT. It is the Confluence City of River Niger and Benue. Kogi State should ordinarily be the most developed state in Nigeria considering the vast human and natural resources and its enviable location in Nigeria. It is however sad to know that Kogi State is the least developed state in present day Nigeria, due to bad leadership. It is littered with bad roads, dilapidated schools with very low educational standards, moribund health facilities, lack of infrastructural development, dirty and stinking environments, huge unemployment rate with high crime rates etc. Our state is in dire need of an honest, dynamic and purposeful leadership that can move the state from its present pitiable condition to an enviable position it deserves. It is in the light of this that Alhaji Yahaya Bello is offering to serve his people as the next governor of Kogi State. His antecedents have prepared him for this enormous task and his youthful age has given him so much energy to tackle the challenges confronting the state. His detribalized nature places him in the best position as a bridge builder to unite all Kogites towards greatness. Heeding the call from the teeming youth across the state for one of their own to lead Generation-Next-Kogi into the future, he has presented himself to vie for the position of Governor in the Next election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Alhaji Yahaya Bello can be summed up in one sentence. He is a young man with enviable character, vision, capacity and ready to serve his home state, Kogi. “A New,greater and united Kogi is Possible, Let’s make it happen”-Support Alhaji Yahaya Bello for Governor Kogi State. Alhaji Yahaya Bello Adoza (Fair Plus) is an astute business man and the Managing Director of FairPlus International Ltd and also the Director of Kogi Youth Arise Forum. He worked at the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission where he rose to the position of Assistant Chief Accountant. He bagged his Bachelor of Accounting Degree from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Master of Business Administration from the same institution. He is also a Chartered Fellow of Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN). He hailed from Agasa in Okene Local Government of Kogi State. He is vying on the platform of APC.

Mrs. Amosun: Wants to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro to help IDPS Five brave women: Former Member, Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Joke Olanipekun, Uzo Nwani, Debo Laditan and the Ogun State First Lady, H.E. Mrs. Olufunso Amosun have agreed to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro with their friend, Mrs. Remi Abere to raise funds for Nigeria’s Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). In a bid to raise awareness for this rare expression of compassion, Mrs. Amosun has launched a social media campaign for the “Climbwithremi” expedition which is part of Mrs. Abere’s 50th birthday celebration. According to the Ogun State First Lady “I am climbing the Mountain on behalf of the wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hajiya Aisha Buhari who is so passionate about women and children and all those who are in IDP Camps across our nation. She has demonstrated this in several ways and I am happy to climb on her behalf. I am also climbing to raise funds to alleviate poverty, the suffering and hardship that those in the IDP Camps are experiencing right now” Mrs. Abere, a Chartered Accountant who works for IBM as the Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs Lead for West Africa stated that after climbing the Kilimanjaro last year, she decided to embark on the same journey again because of the added attraction of using it to raise funds of Nigeria’s Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). “I just want to help society. Climbing Kilimanjaro to bring awareness to a cause so critical is one of those things I chose to do. We have the mindset that government should be responsible for everything, but they don’t have all the resources. So, it is about doing what I can to make things better.”She stated According to her, on November 29, she will be leaving the shores of Nigeria for the expedition tagged “Climb With Remi” to Kilimanjaro alongside five other women. ” There is no better awareness than having six middle-aged women climbing the mountain to bring the attention of the public to the plight of these women and children who were sent packing from their homes. “It is five days to ascend and two days to descend. We should be back 11am on December 6,” she stated. “As much as money is essential for logistics, she revealed that they are not after money in the real sense. What is important is drawing attention to the IDPs issue and rallying people to contribute in all ways possible to remedy the situation.
