Prior to the civil war , this wasn't the case. Northern Nigeria had more Ibos residing in it than anywhere on the planet. The current SS states outside Edo and Delta , had the second largest concentration of Ibos residing in them than the SW.

Ibo population in the north never recovered after the civil war. In the SS, Ibo population was even worse hit owing to the abandoned property saga and anti Ibo sentiments from the indigenes over the brutal occupation of their lands by Biafran forces and civilians.
