There are husbands, there are men, there are fathers, and there are sperm donors as someone said.

Some men embody all qualities, others pick and choose the role they'd like to play.

where does your "father" lie?

Or maybe he left because your Mum was a nagging person.

Person wasn't the word I really wanted to use.

Stop blaming your father for your luck in life, you're an adult now, get a grip.

My personal advice to men, please do not take any woman from a broken home serious. They typically have way too much emotional baggage and this OP is a perfect example of that.
Lies. My dad and mom are still married but it is the most hateful, abusive, and dysfunctional relationship I have ever seen.

Lots of violence, anger, and hatred.

The only advice is to say: go and live your own life. At some point, you ought to stop blaming your parents.

If another man makes her happy then we won't stay married. However, I won't infringe on her happiness or identity just because she's married.

I agree with Sophie,

However if the man is in a polygamous relationship or his wife has given him permission to cheat, where he commits his wrongs doesn't matter. Does a married man have to be monogamous?

@OP your husband married you because of the daughter and not because he loves you.

1) stop sleeping with him
2) go for HIV/STI Test
3) leave him alone and let him enjoy himself
4) when you are tired, you will leave
5) manage his cheating ways until you have the strength to leave. The power is in your court.

Lol. people have different moral compasses depending what they feel is right or wrong based on their upbriging and religion. Even though culturally polygamy is supported here, many people still kick against it. so you see? You shouldnt be surprised. If 2face having baby mamas aint a big deal to you then overpopulation of baby mamas everywhere shouldnt be a big deal also to you. A man with baby mamas is still looked upon as irresponsible.
How is he irresponsible if the women consented to have babies with him? That's unfair.

Why are you so anti-polygamy? Are you saying if a husband wants "freedom" in marriage, you won't gree?

ArewaSweetheart:
@obowunmi, marriage is a contract and every valid contract must be honoured unless either of the party to the agreement wants trouble.

Thus, you cant enter into an agreement with your two eyes open and think you can just alter same whenever you so wish without first seeking for the consent & approval of the other party.

That is why i said some marriage contracts permit polygamy and some dont. Thus, a man that has always had the intent to be polygamous must endeavour to either enter into the marriage contract that best suits his polygamous desire from the outset or seek the approval of his wife to do so (if his marriage contract doesnt support such).
Explains why there are so many baby mamas in Nigeria these days. No one wants to keep a marriage contract.

Thats also like asking if a wife lives to keep her husband happy, rather than keep herself happy (at the detriment of her spouse's happiness). Does such a scenerio look good to you then? undecided

To your question, polygamy is not a crime in our nigerian society. That said, the ability of a married man to become polygamous depends solely on the kind of marriage he had contracted with his wife. If it is a customary or muslim marriage, he has the right to marry more wives (not exceeding four at a time for muslim marriage). But if it is either a court or christian marriage, polygamy is wholly prohibited.

However, even with regards to court & christian marriages, the man might still be able to indulge in polygamy only if his wife doesnt object to such or supports such for the husband.

N.B: My post relates only to where the man desires a peaceful polygamous home; not a rancourous one.
But there has to be a happy medium for happiness. I don't think anyone should sacrifice their happiness or identity because of marriage.
