Politics / Nigeria Needs President Buhari As Minister Of Defence, Not Petroleum by OBSEQUIOUS(m): 4:09pm On Oct 05, 2015 |
When Buhari gave the famous speech at eagle square that military command center will be moved to battle area everyone clapped for a general and commander in chief ready to lead his army. Yes! We need a general to quash boko haram according to APC propaganda, and yes! We got THE GENERAL. (1). Has general Buhari been to the command center since he moved them their? Or he simply sent a civilian Osinbajo with no "military experience" like Jonathan?. (2). Has general Buhari visited any of the explosion sites like the "weak" Jonathan did?. (3). Has there not been more bombings in 3 months under the general than it was in 3 years under "the civilian" Jonathan? (4). They say Jonathan celebrated independence day inside Aso rock because of fear of boko haram, now the GENERAL who made gallant statement at eagle square and ordered the military chiefs to defeat boko haram in 3 months hide himself and the legion of guards in same Aso rock this year as boko haram were relentlessly bombarded Abuja. (5). How come there is this criminal silence on the almost daily killings and raiding and bombings going on in the north by both boko haram and Fulani cowboys killing and destroying towns and villages and even adding kidnapping now (ask Pa Olu Falae) despite us having a general as president?, oh! I get it, if the people know and are adequately informed about the cases, then it will deflate the "we have conquered boko haram" lies. (6). THE REAL DANGER IS NO LONGER IN THE ATTACKS BUT IN THE DELIBERATE CONCEALING OF TRUTH ABOUT THE ATTACKS JUST TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE WAR IS OVER. (7). They keep showing us how many boko haram fuel depot and foodstuffs they discovered all over the place and YET no discovery of the CHIBOUK GIRLS upon whose (abduction??) they based one of their strongest propaganda against Jonathan. (. Bombs does not discriminate, it doesn't know if you are APC, PDP, APGA or of any political party or religious background, so it is something that must be roundly condemned by all well meaning Nigerian, BUT WHEN POLITICIANS USE A BAD SITUATION LIKE THE BOKO HARAM THING AS PROPAGANDA TO WIN ELECTION ONLY FOR THEM TO START LOOKING FOR EXCUSES FOR FAILING TO STOP IT, THEN WE SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY WORRIED FOR OUR DEAR NATION. If Buhari has anything "GENERAL" in him, let him take the Defence ministry (that is where Nigeria need him now)and not the petroleum ministry. We shall continue to pray that God expose those behind the killing of innocent Nigerians. LET BUHARI TAKE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE AS "THE GENERAL" HE IS, THEN WE CAN TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY. 161 Likes 27 Shares |

The Defence Headquarters has inaugurated a committee to midwife the process that will lead to the granting of amnesty to willing members of the Boko Haram sect. A Defence Headquarters’ statement, signed by Group Captain Wap Maigida, on behalf of the Acting Director, Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, stated that the planned reintegration would involve three categories of Boko Haram members. According to him, those to benefit from the government’s gesture are those who were forcibly conscripted into the sect; those who have surrendered and renounced membership of the deadly sect and those who are willing to do so. Maigida said that the membership of the committee were drawn from federal agencies involved in the ongoing campaign against the insurgency and representatives of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba states in the North-East and Jigawa State in the North-West. http://www.punchng.com/news/amnesty-for-bharam/

In this vox pop, compiled by Samson Folarin, Olaleye Aluko, Seun Ajijala and Yetunde Adeyi, Nigerians bare their minds on the state of the nation at 55 IT seems we are still backward a little. There should be more of God in this country. Americans have a day they call Thanksgiving Day. All shops and markets are shut and they say thank you to God. At the end of it, they say God bless America. So, we should be positive about Nigeria. When we wake up in the morning, ‘God bless Nigeria’ should not be far from our mouths. Then, we should stop the habit of condemning our leaders. Leadership starts from our homes. It is worth celebrating, but we are still crawling like babies.” –Funmilola Okeowo “Fifty-five years of independence should be a great thing to celebrate, but in the minds of many Nigerians, it seems not to be so. We all have good reasons which border on the condition of living. I think government at all levels can do more to answer the call of duty, and we the governed should learn to be more disciplined.” –Joseph Ugwuanyi “We give glory to God that Nigeria is now 55. It is God that has been keeping us and we believe that the God that has kept us to this point, will give us the land that He has promised us. Nigeria is a land flowing with milk and honey. As the children of God are praying, we believe God for a better and greater Nigeria. We believe that the change he has brought to us will affect all areas of the country. I believe that God will use Buhari to bring back the change we long for.” Deaconess Titilayo Enajero, an administrator “Nigeria has come of age, but we are not there yet. There are still so many hurdles to cross- politically and economically. I think the most important thing is leadership; if we can get that right, then, there is hope.” –Oladeinde, civil servant. “At 55, I think we should stop chasing shadows. Government at all levels should see to the social welfare of the masses rather than using our meager national resources to chase ‘past corrupt leaders.’ –Hunwathan Anu “It is time for proactive measures to end corruption, nepotism, and bogus salary for political office holders. Nigeria is in a quagmire because our leaders don’t have the political will to make the country a better place for all of us to leave. It is 55 years of total failure.” –Sadare Macaulay “There is hope for Nigeria. If you look back from 1960 till now, we have improved. We have improved in every area-education, power, infrastructure, and others. Rome was not built in a day; we are moving forward. There is hope for Nigeria and our youths. Today, a child of six years can speak good English, unlike in those days when we could not even write. Now, you can see a teenager of 16 years gaining admission into the university. Then, our hands had to touch our ears before we gained entry into primary school, so we are moving.” –Elder Dominic Nwamana, a businessman “Things are getting better now. Some Nigerians are now happy about the new government. As for corruption, Nigerians are changing. If you go to some police stations now, they are afraid to collect bribes. It is better for the future; let’s watch as things get better.” – Mr. Honest “As Nigeria marks 55, we expect the Federal Government to improve on certain key areas such as electricity and healthcare. Most of our roads are bad, and the government must fix them. When there are good roads, and electricity, all things will be better and the economic lives of people will improve. The present administration has not done badly in its few months in office. But Nigeria does not yet have a reason to celebrate; a good government in power will soon bring reasons for us to celebrate.” Adepoju Olugbenga, Business Manager “The situation in Nigeria is not encouraging yet. We still have a large number of unemployed youths. The necessary socio-economic infrastructure to make citizens’ lives better is not on the ground. So, I am expecting massive job creation for the youth. And then, the rehabilitation of our roads like the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The impact of this new administration will only be felt when things improve for the masses. We are still waiting for the actual change that was promised.” –Sennuga Oluwaseun, I.T. expert “We should have celebrated a lot but unfortunately we always have rulers and not leaders since independence. Until Nigeria gets a visionary leader, we are going no where. Singapore was a third world country, but when a visionary leader came, the whole story became a history.” – Ejeh Smith “Management and leadership deficiencies, plus corruption, are the key problems. Selfless service, which is very essential for development, is scarce. Most of our youths have lost the sense of nation building, while our leaders are building bank accounts and structures, rather than building the youth. Poverty has taken over the sense of right thinking by the youth that they have become toys in the hands of politicians. This nation shall live, but we need to kill corruption and learn the act of good leadership and management. Above all, we need God, so we must learn to acknowledge him in all our ways.” –David Aremu “Nigeria at 55; we need to reflect in retrospect on our past. Now that we have a new government, and, as far as I’m concerned, the person who is leading the government is someone whose personality I cherish, and I feel his tenure would bring positive change to this country. But what we need now is aggressive and rapid change for a brighter and rewarding future, which is far from transient.” –A. B. Sanusi, an engineer “As an independent nation, we expected something greater than this at 55; but unfortunately, our leaders, and we Nigerians, have not been helping the situation. If we can all be truthful to ourselves and we can do things right, things will be better. It starts from obeying traffic rules, and complying with simple work ethics. There are lots of businesses collapsing because of the insincerity of workers. Get outside the country, and you will see Nigerians that are in high positions in so many countries, but unfortunately, many of them find it difficult to come back. Some of them even left here with nothing. There are many things that are wrong and I believe that this government will give us the change that we expect” –Telle “At 55, I think we should work on having a national vision; we should have national ethos such as distingushing characters, attitudes and fundermental values to change the world’s perception of Nigeria,” –Adeosun Temitope-Great “The major area the government needs to improve on is security. That is one of our most desperate needs. Also, there is still a high rate of unemployment in the country. When we and our children have good jobs, there will be reduction in crime. The present government is bringing on some positive changes since it resumed office, and it should continue with those efforts.” –Moses Olubowale, a contractor Share your thoughts in the comment section below. Welcome to Nigeria, where zilch songs get nominated for awards. Where songs don't have meanings anymore... where conjured lines are the norms. Olamide making waves whiles Falz is ignored to some extent. Small doctor the noise maker nominated, I die! Simi deserves better nominations than this in my opinion. Science/Technology / Hardest Car To Build In The World: Tesla Launches Its Model X Electric SUV by OBSEQUIOUS(m): 11:14am On Sep 30, 2015 |
With its upswinging 'falcon wing' doors that need less than a foot of clearance to open and panoramic windshield, this is one luxury SUV that's bound to have car fans salivating. Tesla Motors has now delivered the first of its long-awaited Model X electric sports-utility vehicles - a product investors are counting on to make the pioneering company profitable after years of losses. CEO Elon Musk sincerely hopes that's the case, as he's described it as 'the hardest car to build in the world'. The launch of the Model X represents a milestone for the loss-making Silicon Valley automaker during a period of high spending and modest growth, because it can now boast a second model in production beyond its Model S sedan, launched in 2012. 'I think we got a little carried away with the X,' Musk told reporters ahead of a launch event near the company's Fremont factory, where luxury Model Xs have been moving down the production line in recent weeks, nearly two years behind the company's original schedule. Musk estimated that 25,000 customers had pre-ordered the crossover online or in its stores and that it would take eight to 12 months for those ordering from now to receive the SUV. In retrospect, the company could have done less engineering-wise, Musk said. 'There is far more there than is really necessary to sell a car. And some of the things are so difficult, they make the car better but the difficulty of engineering those parts is so high. Between 4,000 and 6,000 guests filled a cavernous space for the launch. Invited to the event were Model X reservation holders, Tesla employees and Model S and Roadster owners. The Roadster sportscar, which is no longer in production, was the company's first vehicle. Musk has said the all-wheel drive Model X - with two electric motors, the ability to travel about 250 miles (about 400 km) on a single charge and seating for seven people - was 'the hardest car to build in the world'. Priced as high as $144,000 (£95,000), it features so-called 'falcon-wing' doors that open upward rather than to the side (controlled by sensors that can modulate the height to clear garage ceilings); seats that can be adjusted separately; and a panoramic windshield that extends overhead. Musk said the biggest challenges were making the doors open in a graceful 'balletic' manner; the expansive windshield - which he said was the largest piece of glass ever used in a car; plus its sun visor and the moveable seats, which he said were deceptively tricky. 'One of the hardest things to design is a good seat,' he said. Although global adoption of electric vehicles has been slow, Tesla has been the U.S. pioneer in luxury electric cars charged by batteries. It is betting that high-performance and stylish offerings will boost acceptance amid a sea of alternatives, such as hybrids or electric vehicles powered by hydrogen. Tesla predicted its SUV would receive five-star safety ratings in all categories, based on data from its crash tests, due to its low centre of gravity, which helps reduce rollovers. The Model X, like the Model S, will be continuously improved, Tesla said, due to software transmitted 'over the air'. A highly anticipated update expected within the next month will allow for an auto-pilot function, in which cars can be driven hands-free on freeways. The buzz surrounding Tesla's Model S sedan - whose P85D variant won a top score of 100 from Consumer Reports magazine in August - has managed to pre-empt high-end German rivals such as Volkswagen's Audi and Porsche, BMW and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz. The Model X, he said, 'gives us a cashflow stream we can use to develop and facilitate' Tesla's three vehicles either in production or development. Six new cars were delivered on Tuesday to a group made up of Tesla board members, investors and friends of Musk who had pre-ordered. In August, Musk said Tesla would make between 50,000 to 55,000 Model S and Model X vehicles this year, with the capacity for 1,600 to 1,800 vehicles per week on its production line next year. Tuesday's unveiling showcased the top-of-the-line 'Signature' Model X, priced between $132,000 and $144,000, with optional add-ons such as acceleration upgrades, packages for subzero weather package or towing. The company has not disclosed pricing for the base model, but Musk said that in the future, there would be a 'lower cost' Model X.

Politics / Buhari Likes Fulani Herdsmen – Fani-kayode by OBSEQUIOUS(m): 9:52am On Sep 30, 2015 |
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a Fulani man, is sympathetic towards Fulani herdsmen. The former minister said this in a Facebook post titled, ‘Herdsmen from hell’ while reacting to the abduction of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Fani-Kayode said Buhari had in the past referred to Fulani herdsmen as ‘my people’. He, therefore, argued that he was not surprised that Fulani herdsmen were hardly arrested despite their many acts of violence. He said, “In the last few years the Fulani herdsmen have attacked, ravaged and pillaged many rural communities south of the River Niger and they have slaughtered and raped thousands of innocent people in the South-South, the South-East and the South-West. “We recall how, after a violent clash between them and some Yoruba farmers in Oyo State in 2000, General Buhari (as he then was) led a strong delegation of northern leaders to see the late Governor of Oyo State, Lam Adeshina. On arrival, Buhari put the question to him: ‘Why are your people killing my people?’ This was a classic case of a Freudian slip. “The Bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The general had spoken his mind. Governor Adeshina was shocked with disbelief and he responded by telling Buhari that he was rather surprised that a former Head of State would refer to one ethnic group as his people while referring to another as someone else’s.” Fani-Kayode, who was the spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, said Buhari had never shown concern for the plight of the people of the South. He said this was why it took Buhari 48 hours to react to Falae’s kidnap. Fani-Kayode said it was possible that Buhari knew those behind the abduction Falae because the herdsmen released Falae 24 hours after the presidency condemned the abduction. He noted that no one had since been arrested for Falae’s kidnap. He added, “Another curious twist to the tale is the fact that it took the Buhari administration two days to make any formal announcement on Falae’s abduction and just the day after they (Presidency) finally did so, the elder statesman was suddenly released. “The question is this: who is pulling the strings from behind the scenes and who is attempting to test our resolve and test the waters?” The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain said Falae’s claim that the Fulani herdsmen had links with Boko Haram should not be ignored. He said the Fulani herdsmen were a security threat and could easily cause crisis in the South-West having populated the entire region under the guise of selling cattle.
