Unknown to the yeye low life amebos, these pics av been on bet long before my Dad contested election. To the the Son o a Governor ain't a sin n pple should respect my privacy. The lady in those pics av been wonderful and supportive and In sha Allahu,am gonna marry her.

Travel › Re: Important Things To Take Along If You Are Relocating To Usa For The First Time by obyrich(m): 6:06pm On Mar 23, 2016 |
kairu: Yes it’s finally going to happen. Your lifelong dream of living and working in America is finally coming to pass. Your employer is sending you to their U.S. subsidiary, you won a green card lottery, your relative has finally filed for you or you sold all your properties and inheritance and relocated anyway.
In my own case we were very excited about this opportunity and could not wait to relocate. So we left behind our friends, grandparents, nephews, nieces, co-workers and a job for me that just got comfortable with a promotion!
Any way in our excitement we forgot to do quite a lot of things which later became very stressful to obtain. So here are some of them;
International Drivers License/Permit
It’s definitely an option to get an international drivers license before you enter the US. Most cities in the US don’t have good public transportation and you may need to borrow, rent or buy a car in other to move from one point to another. But this is only a temporary solution for the first few months. After that you will still have to get a US drivers license. The police might start to give you a hard time about it especially if you get stopped for a traffic offence.
Get those Academic Transcripts!
You must have Your Secondary /University Transcript of Records. Especially if you plan to either school or work in the US. Request it from your University Registrar. Try to request as many copies as you can. Then have them evaluated by Credentials Evaluation Services. The CES is a government approved organization for those who are educated outside the United States but want to pursue further education in U.S. institutions of higher learning or work with their credentials. The cost I think is $385.00 and you can check out www.cgfns.org for more clarification. You can actually do this evaluation even before you travel!
A note of warning though….. Don’t be surprised if your Nigerian first class degree is evaluated to a second class lower. I beg that’s how I see am! Apparently our degrees no qualify! But just check it out before leaving before you find out that you left Nigeria a doctor and is only qualified to be an RN!
Take the Approved English Language Proficiency Examinations
If you want to further your education this is a must. As far as you were not born here and you did not begin your early education here, then yes you need this document.
There are three sets of approved exams; (1) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) plus the Test of Written English (TWE) and the Test of Spoken English (TSE); (2) the Test of English in International Communications (TOEIC) plus TSE and TWE; or (3) the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Unlocked Cell Phones
Yes that your very expensive unlocked cell phone can be used here with another carrier. Most cell phone companies in the US sell locked cellphones. Although you can buy unlock codes and phones on places like Ebay when you arrive. it’s interesting but I found out its easier and sometimes cheaper to buy phones from Nigeria, then bring it here and just pick a carrier. All you do is insert your SIM and you’re good to go. Rather than paying for phones with 2 year service plans.
An Adapter for Your Various Electronics
The voltage in America is 110 while in Nija its 220/240! In those days, we needed voltage converters to either step up or step down the voltages or else our electronics would blow up. But now that’s not really necessary since most electronics such as cell phones, iPads, tablets, laptops and cameras, all have the capacity to accept both types of voltage. All you need now is just an adapter with different plugs.
Photos and Contact Information of Friends and Family
Yep, I took this one for granted. Time flies really when you travel abroad. Before you can say Jackie Chan, you will have spent 4 years without even realizing it and have lost contact with a lot of your peers, friends and family! So please pack up as many memorabilia as you can! Thanks Op. It seems the CES link you posted is for nursing profession only. |

KoloOyinbo: Well I dont understand how he can have graduated in ANYTHING if he is unable to make himself understood. Any educated 12 year old could do better than this. To be fair we don't know the context of the conversation which would allow us to infer much more of the meaning but even so it is still quite poor. Can you imagine a CV or job application written in this manner? I took my time to visit the guys fb page. He has many such hard-to-comprehend posts. To think that the guy is adorning NYSC uniform on his DP! I pity his students. |
Education › Re: NDU Graduate Murders English On Facebook by obyrich(m): 4:29am On Mar 22, 2016 |
engrkenny: That totally makes him less than qualified, English was the official language of instruction in that school, how did he learn? Imagine, someone who was instructed in the English language for over 16 years, wrote exams, tests, seminars, term papers, assignments, reports and project, could not string words in simple comprehensible sentences! Haba. So what really makes one a qualified graduate? |
Education › Re: NDU Graduate Murders English On Facebook by obyrich(m): 4:23am On Mar 22, 2016 |
Jacobx007: Yea! They write very well cos they don't have to learn it!! U must understand one thing my friend, 90% of the way we pronounce words in English is wrong , I mean perfect oral english. Now how many years do we have to keep learning English b4 we become PERFECT? Maybe the next 100 years Lol So am nt justifying anytin for him oooo! All I want is for us to place less emphasis on English, cos we really need to start producing No one is making a case for PERFECTION here. We are talking about a UNIVERSITY graduate who could not write simple sentences. That's the height of mediocrity! I am very sure, you will withdraw your kids from their school if you discover that their teachers write the way the guy you are defending does. |

ukjerry: I really don't think it's this guy's fault though. I agree with what omoyemirally said- Just because he doesn't know how to express himself in English doesn't make him less educated.
My cousin bro can't speak but is an engineer (a very good one). Companies are looking for him but he's stuck with his company cos in his words "they gave him a chance". When asked how he scaled through the interview, he said twas a disaster but he just asked them to give him a chance and allow him do something and just cut off his first month salary. They did and it's history. They ended up paying him. (Let me not even start with his salary)
He always say, "comprehensive pry and sec sch fvcked me up, but Unn didn't teach me how to speak but how to fix" My dear, your cousin may not be very articulate in his spoken English but could be sound in written communication. There is no excuse for any graduate, whatever may be their area of specialisation, who could not write simple sentences except where English is not the medium of instruction. I am very sure your cousin will have a higher expressive aptitude than this guy you are comparing him with. Let's call a spade, a spade. |

Osakah24: Make april reach now they will change date or deny the promise. Though the minister was corny enough not to name any price, these guys don dey learn from their mistakes of making point blank promises that they will need only outright denial to fulfill but now make inconclusive promises that's not specific so that they can amend their promises without stress or unnecessary lies. You are very observant. He tactically avoided naming a price so as not to be judged when the promise fails. They are improving gradually with the methodology of their lies. |
