Godman_n: Are you aware that every penny the Executive spent must be passed in Budget; and that budget is a law? The question now becomes, was the security contract in the budget and if it is; does the Legislature have power to remove it?the point is not about Budget. they do not have the power to ask the Executive not to award a contract. simples |
Afam4evaIsASlut: End of story!you dont have to call anyone daft or illiterate sir. Mr know-all |
many of the contributors here have a get a hold of themselves. The House of Representative DO NOT have the powers to stop the President from enforcing a contract just as he CANNOT stop them from debating a bill. fine, there are separation of powers and yes, there are CHECKS AND BALANCES. While checking the powers of the other arm, you have your own limits as well. The Primary function of the House of Representatives is to make Laws. furthermore, they have some other oversight functions. what they are trying to do is not part of the oversight functions. i deride the House of Representatives for DELIBERATELY throwing 'blocks' on the President's way. Politics shoud not be played with everything. Mr Tambuwwal should take note! |

Gbawe: One thing about the support base of GEJ is that it is not driven by innovation, ideas and intelligence. Rather, all those who gather behind GEJ are (1) mercenaries "chopping" his dollar or (2) ethnic/sectional jingoist who fail to accept the simple statistical inevitability of how GEJ and his ethnically loyal support cannot go it alone. The Head of the South West NURTW YOUTH WING HIMSELF.He types epistles without making any sense. As expected, the recent suspension of the Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been analysed and investigated in the media from various angles. The Friday last week early morning suspension was attributed to Amaechi’s alleged refusal to recall the suspended chairman of the Obio-Akpor local government council, Timothy Nsirim, following a petition by the PDP state executive. A report today claims however that Amaechi’s journey to this point has its root in the election of Adams Oshiomhole as the Edo governor in 2012. In that election, Amaechi is alleged to have engaged in anti-party activities. According to the Daily Sun, In the July 2012 governorship election in Edo State, Governor Amaechi was said to have expressly supported the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole against PDP’s Charles Airhiavbere, a retired General. PDP sources said that Amaechi rebuffed his party’s plea to support Airhiavbere’s campaign with funds, but allegedly raised N500 million for Oshiomhole’s campaign. The embattled Rivers State governor, Daily Sun gathered, had bluntly told the PDP leadership that, as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), that it would be awkward for him to be supporting a candidate running against Oshiomhole, whom he reportedly described as a key member of his forum. Amaechi’s response then said, had greatly unsettled the PDP leadership. To worsen matters another source, Amaechi was one of the two PDP governors that graced Oshiomhole’s inauguration for a second term last November. Even though Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State had also graced the occasion, the PDP hierarchy was said to have excused Uduaghan on the ground that Edo and Delta states were both carved out of the defunct Bendel State. Amaechi, however, apart from having reportedly raised N500 million for Oshiomhole, had spent two nights in Benin City to witness the inauguration. Amaechi was also said to have shared in Oshiomhole’s distasteful jokes on prominent PDP leader in Edo State. Even though Amaechi had reportedly defended his presence at Oshiomhole’s second term inauguration- that he was there in his capacity as NGF chairman- top PDP officers believed he was there to celebrate his party’s defeat by ACN. “Article 21.1 (b) of our party’s Constitution frowns at any member who does anything to bring our party to disrepute, hatred or contempt. It was incredulous that Amaechi, who became governor because of the PDP ticket which the Supreme Court restored to him, would so openly celebrate the defeat of our governorship candidate,” a party source volunteered. “If what Amaechi did in Edo State isn’t anti-party, what then is anti-party? Here was a PDP member talking of supporting a member of a rival party simply because of NGF! This means that NGF, to Amaechi, had become more important than PDP, the party that brought him to power,” the source added. Sources told Daily Sun that the PDP leadership was unhappy with the way Amaechi had been publicizing intra-party disputes, and how the opposition parties have been feasting on the crisis. “The way these parties have been rising to Amaechi’s defence is suspect. It is like there is something they know about Amaechi that we don’t. Whatever it is, he seems to enjoy their sympathy. All we are doing is to be sure we are not habouring persons who wish our party evil. That is why we are being careful with Amaechi,” he noted.

Even in Ogun PDP, Obasanjo has no relevance, his faction IS NOT recognized and he cannot control delegates that would vote during the PDP Presidential Primaries.Obasanjo has lost a lot of relevance and to gain relevance, he has to say Controversial things to make the Headlines. he doesnt have enough clout to stop GEJ from clinching the PDP ticket. |

Through the source and course of history, we have been regaled with the tales and legends of prophets who were not appreciated during their time; from the very early time of Noah who warned his people of an impending flood disaster which was being planned by the Almighty God to punish mankind, Noah was sneered and laughed at by those whose interest he was serving. He laughed last. Let us fast forward to the time of our Lord Jesus Christ who predicted the happenings of today in Matthew. He was laughed at by those that lived in those days. Those of us living now cannot laugh because all what Jesus predicted in MATTHEW 24 are coming to pass now. Holy Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W)? He told people that he would be the LAST PROPHET. Many laughed at him. We are not laughing now because indeed and in deed, he is the last prophet. So you see, history has taught us about prophets who were never appreciated in their time but were appreciated after becoming dust and bone or resurrecting or after going to heaven via a Chariot of fire. The FATHER of African Literature (Capitalization intended) , Chinua Achebe was one. Apart from being the second most influential African after Nelson Mandela, he was a seer… a prophet who as short as a midget saw things which giants standing on Iroko trees never saw. Of course, he was never respected in his homeland. My fellow Yorubas derided him because he dare take their ‘hero’ Awolowo (Not my hero though) to the cleaners. Hausas hated him because he dared say the truth about the country’s existence. Non-sentimental people however admired him as a giant. He wasn’t only a giant; he was like a river in the Desert! A rare breed. I would attempt to briefly examine his political views and how they have come to bear in our present lives and political biosphere. Chinua Achebe always believed that the Igbos are/were victimized in this country. After releasing his WORLD FAMOUS bestseller ‘There was a country’, many Yoruba men (I am a Yoruba man) who had not even read the book but who relied on gists they heard in paraga joints condemned him, just because he took a swipe at ‘their’ leader AWOLOWO. To them, Achebe was an ethic bigot. To be sincere, we need to ask ourselves pertinent questions: were the igbos not massacred during the civil war? Are they still not being massacred? Are they still not being marginalized? Achebe claimed in his book that the Igbos are the most industrious and illustrious people in Nigeria. My fellow Yorubas were sad because of that statement. Was he lying? Are the Igbos not the most travelled tribe in Nigeria? Are they not the most illustrious and most hardworking? Are they still not being marginalized? How come the East has the LOWEST presence of Federal presence and Multinational investments? How come an Igbo man has never become President or has never ever been considered…and might never be considered? Achebe never believed in one Nigeria. Still, many saw him as unpatriotic. But if we are going to be truthful, is there one Nigeria? Has there ever been one Nigeria? Why are Asari Dokubo and Ango Abdullahi at each other’s throats today? If truly there is one Nigeria, how come we are talking about zoning? How come we have OPC, Bakassi Boys, Boko Haram, Jamb, Egbesu Boys, Arewa Consultative Union, Massob? Why? Furthermore, Achebe believed that the Nigerian political establishment is/was out and out corrupt and he refused to identify with them. When he rejected National Awards twice, he was abused. Born Again activist FEMI FANI KAYODE I remember insulted him when he rejected the awards during Obasanjo’s tenure. Achebe rejected the National awards because Governance in Nigeria is flawed. With the happenings of today, has Achebe not being vindicated? Does corruption not hold sway in all facets of Governance? Is Democracy in Nigeria not a caricature of how it should be ideally? Ehn?? Furthermore, Achebe believed that we should not forget the religions of our forefathers. To him, religion was one of the tools the British used to dividing us (That was the main message in his African Number One Bestseller THINGS FALL APART). Taking a cursory look at our society today, is religion not dividing us? Has it not divided us? Will it not divide us further? Were we so divided when we worshipped our Ancestral gods? Where we? Now, we have a sharp divide between Christians and Muslims. Within Christians sef, we have divisions. The Catholics on a side, Anglicans on another, Protestants on another. Catholics cannot marry non-Catholics. Within protestants, we have divisions, Deeper life have different doctrines from Redeemers, MFM have different doctrines from the Lord Charismatic movement. I can go on and on. Musli7ms? Terrorism Is blamed on them because some fanatics kill in the name of Allah. The Northen Muslims see Southern muslims as infidels, we have Sunnis and Shiites.. Extremists and the normal Muslims. I can go on and on. So, has Achebe been vindicated? YES! When he asked us to worship our ancestral gods, many ‘converts’ said he wants us to go to hell because the Bible and Quran have said we must believe in Jesus/Mohammed before we make heaven. Are we not divided because of religion today? When he rejected National awards, he was called names. The reasons he gave for rejecting the awards, do they not subsist till now? Don’t the Igbos still suffer? Are they not the most hardworking people in Nigeria as he said (I witnessed a lot of Igbo industry when I served briefly at Nguzu Edda,Afikpo South, Ebonyi State). Are not being marginalized? Are my fellow Yorubas still not as arrogant as ever as he inferred in his memoir? Say what you can, but that late sage, that prophet you refused to honour at home, that FATHER OF AFRICAN LITERATURE now lies less than 6 feet, a companion of worms and termites. He has made his mark, his name would never go into oblivion. Things fall apart would still be read thousands of heard from now. His prophecies shall still come to pass. By the time we would be realizing his worth, by the time his prophecies start coming to pass in full FORCE, we would wish we never sneered or ignored him. By that time though, it would be too little too late. While we were chasing the chicken, trying to make him fall, the Chicken triumphed and he would keep triumphing even in death, just as the Igbos say “OCHU NWA OKUKO NEW ADA, NWA OKUKO NEW NGWAGWA OSO!” |
As the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues, the governors supporting the Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi have called for the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to discuss the crisis engulfing the party. The governors also said that they will not leave the party, no matter the level of provocation against them . This is coming as the crisis rocking the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) takes a new dimension as the factional NGF chairman, Governor Jonah David Jang said that the factional secretariat of the party located at Alvan Ikoku Street in Maitama District Abuja will be declared open by Vice President Namadi Mohammed Sambo by 4 pm on Thursday. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pdp-governors-renew-calls-for-nec-meeting/148767 |

If Governor Amosun of Ogun State all of a sudden becomes a rebel in the ACN, would Tinubu not remove him from the party? And did Tinubu not stylishly remove Femi Pedro and Akere Bucknor because they expressed 'contrary opinions'? Gbawe, Symphony, Delafruita, Ilugun Boy and co should stay away from it. It is a PURELY PDP affair. If you discipline your child, should your neighbour interfere? |
I just saw PDP's handle on twitter announcing Amaechi's suspension by the National working committee. Any confirmation?? |

In as much as I am a free thinker, Jesus Christ is one of the men I respect the most. I am not one for religion but I spend ample time reading the Holy Bible and Holy Quran. I have noticed that we (Nigerians) are the most religious people in the world, yet the most corrupt. Do we practice the wordings of these Holy Books? We spend hours reading the Holy books but it seems we read them only for leisure. Do the Christians behave like the Lord Jesus and the very early Christians? My Dear Brethren, I shall take the lesson for today from the Book of Matthew Chapter 5:38-42. Jesus said “you have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you, don’t ‘resist’ an evil doer, on the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other cheek to him. As for the one who wants your shirt, let him have your coat as well…” What do you think the Lord Jesus was talking about? Do you think he was asking us to be ‘mumu’ and subject ourselves to inhuman treatments? No! What that quotation means is that you give everybody benefit of doubt. Whoever is misbehaving towards you, let him satisfy himself and let everybody see how much you have suffered so that when you take action, you won’t be blamed. Jesus wasn’t saying you should allow someone slap you so hard that you would develop Ogbomoso tribal marks on your face all of a sudden!. And I believe President Jonathan must have read the above thoroughly as he applied it in dealing with Boko Haram. The President has always been seen as weak, dumb, clueless and all. I have refused to see him that way. His handling of the Boko Haram affair has brought him under intense fire. Every Tom, Dick and Rufai became security experts all of a sudden. They called him lame duck. To them, he should have taken an AK-47 and then shot that ‘sonafabitch’ called Shekau or better still, left Abuja to see Fadeyi Oloro at Gbekuba, Ibadan who would have fortified him with charms and amulets. He would then start disappearing acts like the ‘jazz men’ we see in those Yoruba films. That way, he would have since ended the Boko Haram impasse. Ebele, as clueless as he is termed, had his plans. Watching his last Presidential broadcast, I felt very proud of him. He spoke like someone who had taken some ‘shots’ of ‘kai kai’. That was the second time he ever acted like the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His message to Boko Haram was simple and straight forward ‘I have taken enough of your nonsense, now I would slap my own back.’ And who would blame him? He had travelled to Borno and Yobe states to meet with the so called ‘Elders’. He even appealed to them to talk to their children. He put his reputation on the line by even announcing that he was ready to grant amnesty to Boko Haram and what did he get in return? Boko Haram said Nigeria should be the one asking them for Amnesty. The President declared a state of Emergency in the 3 States of Yobe (ANPP/APC) Borno (ANPP/APC) and Adamawa (PDP). He also announced that the Governors will not be removed, rather they should continue their constitutional duties. While many Nigerians approved of the declaration of war on the Boko Haram militants, some people as expected disapproved. Prime suspect is Mr ‘Lie[ Mohammed. I had told someone that I would walk naked to Dugbe market in Ibadan if ‘Lie’ doesn’t condemn the President’s action. And as if ‘Lie’ knew I was planning to walk naked, he condemned the statement as expected. Bola Tinubu of the ACN/APC was another person who went ballistic. He accused the President of playing ‘2015 Politics’ (whatever that means). Also, this lawyer whose named I have never come across in a law report, Femi Fani-Kayode, also criticized the President for not removing the Governors. READ: Femi Adesina: Momodu Vs FFK – We Are All Under Emergency Rule READ: APC In State Of Confusion Following President Jonathan’s Emergency Proclamation Let me attempt to enumerate the issues people have with the President’s action and further attempt to clear the air on them He was criticized for not removing the governors of the States He is being accused of playing 2015 politics, that is to ‘scatter’ states belonging to the opposition They are saying he has a crusade against the Islamic religion and wants to kill all the Hausas and make the religion go into extinction ISSUE ONE The 1999 Constitution is very clear as to how governors can be removed. The Constitution does NOT give the President power to suspend a governor not to even talk of removing him. A governor can only be removed via the following ways: Impeachment by the State house of Assembly under Section 189(1) of the Constitution When he dies or suffers gross infirmity of the mind Removed by the court Or he resigns. Taking a cursory look at Section 305 of the 1999 constitution which makes provisions for emergency rule, nowhere is it written that the Governor be removed. READ: Section 305: What Does The Constitution Say About The Declaration Of A State Of Emergency? READ: Rotimi Fawole: #StateOfEmergency: What Does It Mean Anyway? In the legal profession, there is respect for seniors but I won’t have respect for a senior who would wilfully refuse to interpret the Laws properly all for cheap popularity. I believe Mr Fani-Kayode who in trying to look like a born again democrat to us has failed in trying to paint the President as incompetent in this regard and I pity his many gullible Facebook ‘fans’ who swallow hook line and sinker whatever he says. And the fact that President Obasanjo removed Governors when he declared State of Emergency in Plateau and Ekiti States doesn’t make it right. Mr Obasanjo set a very very wrong precedent. And I am happy President Jonathan is now acting within the confines of the Law. ISSUE 2 Mr ‘Lie’ Mohammed and Bola Tinubu both of ACN did not surprise me when they accused the President of declaring a state of emergency all because of 2015. Infact, after reading Tinubu’s epistle, I felt very sad on his behalf. READ: Bola Tinubu: Of President Jonathan’s Unpardonable Mediocrity And Diabolic Partisanship Mr Tinubu surprised me when he called for Amnesty on behalf of Boko Haram because to me, no RIGHT THINKING Nigerian should support amnesty for terrorists who have killed and maimed thousands. The President agreed to give them amnesty and these people refused, what was Tinubu expecting Mr President to do? Watch people die so that Mr Tinubu can keep accusing Mr President of incompetence? READ: Ayokunle Odekunle: Amnesty For Boko Haram? It Is Haram! I believe If the President really wants to play politics as is being postulated by Mr Tinubu and co, he would have removed the Governors and put a PDP man in charge of the states. With Mr Tinubu’s utterances, I put it to him that he is happy with the bloodshed going on in the North as long as he can use that as an outlet to dislodge the President in 2015. He lost the very little respect I used to have for him. ISSUE 3 I heard from some Muslims that the President being a Christian declared State of Emergency in those states so as to ‘declare war’ on Islam. The following questions are pertinent Did he create Boko Haram? No! Was he the one who asked Boko Haram to kill them? No! In whose religion are Boko Haram carrying out their actions? Islam! The allegation that he has declared war on Islam is very myopic. The little I know about Islam (My Dad is an Alhaji), I know it is a religion of peace. The President has not declared war on Islam; he has declared war on those tarnishing the image of the religion. I have always told people that the President couldn’t have handled the Boko Haram issue better than he has. Don’t forget that : - He comes from a minority region - He is a Christian and any action he takes against Boko Haram would ALWAYS be viewed with suspicion - The issue of terrorism is new to us and I never expected us to just win easily. It took the Americans years with all their military might to kill Bin Laden. They are even still fighting the Talibans in Afghanistan after over 10 years. Furthermore, it is a pity that some people have decided to play politics with the lives of Nigerians. Our opposition parties have been criticising the President over this Boko Haram issue without proffering solutions. To them, blood should keep flowing as long as Nigerians would keep hating their President and then they (APC) would be voted into power in 2015. Taking a cursory look at the United States of America, whenever there is a bomb blast there, the Republicans (Opposition party) would rally round Barrack Obama of the Democratic party. They would not seek to score cheap political points like the ACN/CPC would do here. To them, the lives of Americans supersede the political interest or ambition of any party. On a last note, I commend the President for following Jesus’s teachings. He gave Boko Haram enough room to repent, yet they kept slapping him. Now that he has decided to show them that he is not ‘clueless’ and ‘toothless’, he has the support of WELL-MEANING Nigerians. Watchword: WELL MEANING NIGERIANS. I must also commend his demeanour and the way he delivered his speech. His ‘teachers’ deserve some praise for teaching him how to behave ‘Presidentially’. As the leader of this country, he should exude confidence and should not give people the impression that he is clueless. Perception says a lot! For the Borno Elders who have refused to call their children to order and have instead been blaming the President for their woes, I challenge them to come out to say rubbish now and see if their heads wont be used for shooting practice by the JTF! AMAECHI’S BEHAVIOUR Some hours before the President declared the Emergency rule in the 3 states, Governor Rotimi Amaechi who is the Chairman of the Governor’s forum had called a conference where he declared that the Governors ARE/WERE against the emergency rule. I wonder when the Governors wielded power to tell the President when and when not to declare Emergency rule in any state. Does Amaechi see himself as the President’s rival? Is he running a parallel government which is different from the President’s? Who are those pushing him that he is losing his head? Whoever the gods want to kill, they first make mad. Amaechi should note this Follow this writer on Twitter: @oddy4real |
