By Kingsley Omonobi Abuja – With barely 48 hours to the governorship elections in Kogi State, Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has assured Nigerian citizens, especially indigenes of Kogi State, of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to provide effective security and ensure a smooth and orderly conduct of the election slated for November 21, 2015. A statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Acting ACP Olabisi Kolawole said “The IGP gave this assurance while addressing Stakeholders and Police officers and men on Tuesday in Lokoja. At the parley, the IGP warned all trouble-makers and anti-social elements to stay away from Kogi State throughout the period of the election as the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person, no matter how highly placed in society, who flouts the law or causes a breach of the peace. “While directing the deployment of Marine Police, Anti-Bomb, Counter Terrorism Unit, Police Mobile Force, Force Intelligence Unit and Mounted Troop to complement the conventional Police manpower deployed for the election, the Inspector-General of Police also directed the AIG in charge of the Police Air Wing to deploy the Force’s helicopter for aerial patrol before, during and after the election on Saturday” the FPRO said. Furthermore, “The IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Department of Operations, DIG Sotonye L. Wakama, to relocate to Lokoja, the Headquarters of Kogi State so as to ensure adequate Police presence and coordination of all security operations for the election in all polling units and Collation Centres in the State”. Continuing the statement said, “The IGP who has ordered all Police officers assigned to election duties in Kogi State to ensure they work in line with the Police Code of Conduct and international best practices, called on the members of the public particularly politicians, gubernatorial candidates and other relevant stakeholders in the State to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in the onerous but patriotic task of guaranteeing a hitch-free gubernatorial poll.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/kogi-igp-relocates-dig-operations-to-lokoja/ |
By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA – The presidency has vehemently refuted the reports in several quarters that a huge sum of N6b had been lavished on the Maintenance of presidential Air fleet (PAF) in the last 6 months. The presidency spoke through the Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu. Shehu in a statement said that only N2.3b had been spent contrary to the figures making the rounds. He regretted that the president has had to be distracted by some “fictional report”, which he had “caused the government a lot of negative reviews especially in the online media”. The statement further stated thus: “The government is focused on solving the many major issues our country faces in the areas of the economy, corruption and security. Yet almost every week, the Presidency has to also deal with the distractions which do nothing but distract from the task of government. “Referring to documents he had requested from the Operational Office of the Presidential Fleet after his attention was drawn to the speculative report, Malam Shehu pointed out that the sum of N2.3 billion was released to the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation between May and November 2015. This includes releases for personnel cost, overhead and capital expenditure out of the sum of N5,190,381,386.00 appropriated for PAF on the 2015 budget. “The documents also showed that the sum of N2,127,103,086.66 had so far been expended, leaving a balance of N172,568,912.34 from the amount released. “However, the sum of N149,062,791.12 was transferred from the PAG’s operation account to the Treasury Single Account, following the President’s recent directive,” he said. “He added that the sum of N23,801,122.17 remains unutilised out of the funds so far released. During the period 31 May 2015 till date, the Fleet expended the sum of N1,358,910,962.75 to settle outstanding liabilities carried over from last year till May 2015. Furthermore, the sum of N500 million was refunded to the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA for financial support rendered to the Fleet prior to release of funds from the OAGF. “Thus, the Fleet expended the sum of N449,081,037.25 within the last months comprising N98,500,218.00 for operations, N165,373,176.91 on training and N85,500,116.75 on personnel medicals and overhead. Additionally, the sum of N99,715,493.51 was expended on aircraft maintenance, spares, and subscription services required for operations. “Any of these documents could have been made available had the newspaper reached out to me or to any one of my colleagues. The damage to the image of government and the good management of the Presidential Air Fleet could have been avoided”. “Shehu also pointed that the number of aircrafts on the Presidential fleet was 10, not 14 as being bandied about, even as he gave the inventory of the planes to include: PAF-AIRCRAFT INVENTORY 1. 1× 737 BBJ 2. 1× G550 3. 1× G500 4. 2× Falcon 7X 5. 1× HS 4000 6. 2× Agusta139 7. 2× Agusta 101 Total aircraft holdings 10.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/presidential-jets-buhari-spent-only-n2b-not-n6b-for-maintenance-presidency/ |
End-to-end IT solutions provider, Dell, has unveiled the newest additions to its highly successful Dell PowerEdge 13th generation servers , created to help small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) prepare for future growth. The new Dell PowerEdge servers included the PowerEdge R330 and R230 rack servers and the PowerEdge T330 and T130 tower servers. According to the Research Director, Enterprise Servers, IDC, Jed Scaramella, the latest Dell PowerEdge servers address specific pain points of SMEs, including performance and speed, thereby helping customers accelerate performance, adapt to changing application demands and attain greater operational efficiency. Scarmella said that, “Dell has a long history addressing the unique needs of small and midsize customers. Dell’s mainstream server portfolio is growing, and their new entry-level PowerEdge servers will be appealing to additional SMEs around the world who are hoping to save time and money while reducing business risk.” Offering large amounts of internal storage capacity, extensive configuration flexibility, and an expandable memory footprint, the new entry-level PowerEdge servers feature up to four DDR4 memory slots and up to four or eight hard drives, enabling customers to accelerate compute performance across a wide range of applications. They also guarantee faster response times, with DDR4 delivering 33 percent faster memory performance compared to DDR3 memory. As the Vice President and General Manager of Dell Server Solutions, Ashley Gorakhpurwalla noted, SMEs can combine the new PowerEdge servers with Dell’s end-to-end portfolio of hardware, software and services to enable operational efficiency and flexibility at any scale. In his words, “There are over 125 million SOHO and SME customers around the globe, and these customers operate in challenging, fast-changing environments – with most not having the luxury of a dedicated IT department. These customers require IT solutions that help them prepare for future growth, drive application performance and improve operational efficiency and for decades, Dell has been helping customers achieve these goals.’’ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/dell-unveils-new-servers-to-boost-sme-productivity/ |
By Onozure Dania Lagos — Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday fixed November 18, 2015 to rule on the fundamental human rights case filed by Mr. Buruji Kashamu against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the Attorney General of the Federation. Kashamu is praying for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the NDLEA and the AGF from taking over his property, including a 24- flat housing estate at Egbe and several hectares of land on Lekki Peninsula, Lagos, worth over N20 billion. Justice Buba adjourned the matter for ruling after hearing the arguments of the parties. The AGF, in its preliminary objection, said that Kashamu’s suit is premature, incompetent and an abuse of court processes and asked the court to dismiss it. A counsel from the office of the AGF, Mr. Oyin Koleoso, submitted that Kashamu failed to substantiate his claim that the AGF had or was about to take possession of his property. Koleoso said: “There is nothing to show that the applicant has been prevented from owning property or is about to be divested of the ones he owns. “It is in view of this that Your Lordship should dismiss the applicant’s suit with substantive cost.” Meanwhile, Kashamu’s lawyer, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, said Kashamu was in court to protect his fundamental right to own property as enshrined under sections 43 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution. “That is the reason we have come to the court this time around to protect the right of the applicant to own property. “This action is not pursuing a right in property, the action is pursuing a right to own property. The right in property and the right to own property are two different things. “It is on the basis of these facts and on the basis of this law that we urge Your Lordship to discountenance this argument,” Oluyede said. Counsel to the NDLEA, Mr. Oigoga Ichakpa, said the agency was also opposing Kashamu’s suit and that it had filed a counter-affidavit. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/court-to-rule-on-kashamus-fundamental-human-rights-suit-nov-18/ |
Nigeria Telecommunications (Ntel) the new entrant into the country’s telecommunications landscape plans to launch voice service on 0804 numbering prefix, so called design for allocation of a unique national number to each subscriber connected to the national telephone system. NATCOM Consortium, the new owners of Ntel resolved to go ahead with the use of already secured numbering plan as against seeking for a new number as a cost saving approach. The numbering capacity of the mobile numbering plan is 10 million lines. The numbering plan provides, more importantly, a uniform dialing procedure for local calls; national long distance calls; and international calls. Expert says, the numbering prefix is part of licenses acquired from NITEL which was allocated to Mobile Telecommunications (M-Tel) the mobile arm of NITEL by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that is charged with the development of the National Numbering Plan for the Nigerian telephone network (both fixed and wireless) and ensuring the allocation of unique national numbers to each subscriber connected to the network. https://www.today.ng/business/36129/ntel-to-launch-services-on-0804-mobile-numbering-prefix |

Advertising is a vital part of any business, it is practically the reason why companies like Google, Jumia, Microsoft, Samsung, LG, Techno mobile, MTN Nigeria, Glomobile, Etisalat, Airtel, Nairabet and many others are succeeding and it is also partly the reason why some are no longer in business and basically the reason some are in business but not making reasonable profits. When GSM was introduced to Nigeria in 2003, many people thought it was one of those Government projects that will not stand the test of time but today, Nigeria has over 113 ACTIVE GSM lines (According to NCC). With this trend, advertisement has taken a new dimension; with mobile messaging technology using bulk sms websites like www.fastbulksmsportal.com smart people are already harnessing the power of bulk sms to increase their customer base. Everyday, I receive between 2-4 sms from MTN and Glo to either use the latest music as caller tune or subscribe to a data plan and most times, I respond to these sms. Whether you have a product to sell, services you want to market or you have an announcement to make such Political campaign, Crusade etc, we have answers to the most effective means of reaching millions of Nigerians all at once. With us you can reach 80% of the Nigerian population instantly. Facts: Many people spend between N50,000 – N1,000,000 advertising in newspapers, Radio and Television stations daily with the sole aim of reaching out to Hundreds, Thousands or perhaps Millions of people but most times this becomes counter-productive because irrespective of the huge monies spent on these advertising channels, only a few people gets converted. You will agree with me that except there is a breaking news of national interest, hardly will you find 200,000 Nigerians reading a newspaper a day out of more than the 150 million Nigerian populace, isn't that shocking? Most appalling is that only a few people maybe "retirees" cares to read the newspaper page by page without skipping to their area of interest maybe Sports, Entertainment etc. But Why Bulk SMS? Why not radio, TV or newspaper? You may not know have been told this but, current statistics shows that; only about 9% of Nigerians watch TV daily, about 19% listen to radio daily, just about 4% read newspapers daily, Less than 2% actively use the internet daily BUT about 50% of Nigerians use GSM phone daily; with this statistics, it becomes clearer that the best way to reach an average Nigerian is via sms text messaging. 07085194809 |
